Busy afternoon

 Tommy was taken to the vet, by Tim. And brought back in time for dinner.

One of Nutmeg's kitten was taken off as well because s/he was off its dinner and had a temperature. (I got to hold the kitten still while Tim figured out why the thermometer wasn't working). Later on, David only saw 4 kittens in Nutmeg's enclosure while he was giving them lunch and pushed the panic button. We ran around, looking under everything, until I remembered the thermometer incident and put 2 and 2 together to come up with the missing kitten.

The detritus under the linen shelves is gross. It will be cleaned next Wednesday and two dozen ping pong balls added to the to-be-cleaned bucket! 

One of the fostered kittens was adopted this morning which put the mums and kittens feeds behind. And a woman came in to discuss the advisability of getting a kitten for her 2 pre teens to go with their labra-dog. She will return when they get back from holidays.

Then a boarder arrived early. And later another asked if it could arrive early. (Actually it's person made the phone call.) And June's people were supposed to pick her up today. No show. They owe us mucho $$$ for her very long stay. 

Our chief Friday-vollie-cat-cuddler made friends with Kitty this afternoon.

He also fell in love with Claire, the kitten.

And another family of teenagers arrived to choose a kitten for one of them. There was an interesting dynamic going on there. Eventually they/she chose Owen. I think it was a very wise decision on her part because they have similar characteristics: observers, quiet, deferential, stubborn. Owen needs a vaccination so they will be back tomorrow.

His phone takes much better photos than my camera. 

I got a quick shot of Nutmeg (plus 5) who has been moved into Prue and Trude's  enclosure. I am sure they will have a Callie and Rosie stay rather than a P & T stay!

 Next time we have a tortie kitten without a name, tell Sue. She has a name to give a tortie in memory of our lovely vollie from London.

And just to take us from kittendom to the real world, here is Aslan enjoying shade on a warm day in Avalon.

 

New drawers

 . . . or as close to it as we will get. Peter came in this afternoon with Irene. She had brought back the drawer that collapsed. It was mended. He did it. So. . . . I asked him to mend the rest of them. And HE DID IT.

 The order of the contents has changed but the important things . . . the folders used for adoptions. . . are in the middle drawer.

Talking of which. . . . Angel was adopted yesterday. I hope it was to the bloke who rang three times on Wednesday to tell me that he was coming to get Angel on Saturday.  

 I was showing visitors around and when I introduced her to Rory. He was hiding in his bed box. I looked under his rug and saw that his claw was caught in a plastic ball with holes. I took Rory to Tim . . the man with the magic cat hands. Eventually we realised that Rory's finger pad was caught, swollen, in one of the holes of the ball. I fetched a hammer. Tim with gentle taps flattened the ball and Rory's finger pad was released.

He really seems to be the cat to whom bad things happen. Despite that, he is a sweetie.

All the hard balls with small holes were discarded.

A visitor this afternoon fell in love with Cheese. She comes frequently. Perhaps this will stick.

 And there was telephone discussion about Cullen, the 17year old ragdoll on Better Row. I discovered that his coat is badly matted towards his rear. He may not be an easy adoption.

And for my last C of the week: Charlotte has moved into Tilly's condo. I "groomed" the North Pole scratchy pole for her because we don't seem to have a surplus of them at the moment.

Adoption Tails: Archie

 We have been waiting for updated photos from his owner but they are having too much fun to get back to us

1 week: “We have decided to rename Archie to Donny! He’s settling in well, eating, drinking and using his litter box. He’s not quite comfortable with me and my boyfriend yet, and even though he seems to be using his cat tree and exploring while we sleep, he hasn’t come out from under our bed while we’re awake in the room. We’re making baby steps though! He’s inching closer to the edge of the bed when we hang out with him, and doesn’t seem to be so hyper alert anymore.”

2.5 weeks: “2 nights ago he let us pat him for the first time! For the last 2 days we’ve been giving him lots of chin scratches, and he’s even started walking over to us when we put our hands out. He isn’t comfy coming out from under the bed to do anything but eat and pee, but I’ve managed to lure him halfway out quite a few times with chin scratches, so I can’t imagine it will be long now!”

6 weeks: “He’s going well! Still spending most of his time under the bed, pretty jumpy at most things but we’re making progress little by little. It’ll be a while before he’s comfortable, but he’s already a super affectionate, vocal boy and we love him to bits”

 So far this month we are up to 17, I think Sue said. 

Rosie and Callie were adopted over the weekend. As was Tilly of the North Pole so named because she was given a scratchy pole for 2024 Xmas. She wasn't even available last Friday.

Of course, we have new cats to fill the gaps.

In Incoming there is a charming family with two mums and 4 kittens. I doubt even the mums know who is who.

Adoption Tails: Peter and Brock

5 days: “Both Peter and Brock are doing fine. They've settled in well and getting along with our existing cat.”

1 month: “They're doing great and getting along well with my other cat.”

Four Tillys

 There were four Tillys at Safe this afternoon. One came in with her brothers from a foster home to get their shots, etc. The two boys (Baxter and bro) were adopted by the fostering family. Their sister Tilly was left behind. She went into the condo opposite to Peaches because Fawney was adopted yesterday. (Her kittens had all gone by Wednesday). That condo is below Tilly the mum who is not yet available because she hasn't forgiven us for the days of her litter.

 But new Tilly won't be there tomorrow. Irene will take her home and give her back to the foster family. Their neighbors want to adopt her. But are away on holiday. So the fosterers will take her back home until the neighbours get home and can adopt her .. . . . . it get complicated at Safe!

There were lots of other visitors. Milky Way got lots of attention. I will be surprised if he doesn't get adopted tomorrow (by Terry).

And a young girl chose Sebastian after considering all the other possibilities who could go with the previous cat they got from us. The parents were delighted. 

  It seems that Aurora and kittens in Isolation do have ring worm. And Squeek's tail is suspicious.
