Rebagged

On Wednesday I left Safe with a huge bag of washing. Somebody had sewn a pretty print of cartoon cats into a laundry bag that would have been big enough for Santa to deliver presents to the Old Lady who Lived in a Shoe. Sue thought I looked hilarious. The bag held four loads of washing. I cut it into two to make two laundry bags of a more reasonable size.

Cody approved
Mateo was collected yesterday so his small condo was free. We moved Prime into there. He is the biggest of the kittens in Mia's condo and added greatly to the havoc of feeding time by greedying as much tucker as he could get his paws on. Moved into his own condo he hid in the hammock. And wasn't interested in his dinner! He is available for adoption.
Prime

As are Prue and Trude. Irene took lots of cats to the vet this morning. It is great to see their name cards changed to pink!

Prue and Trude
Also good to see was Archie out of his Pub Box. His face is cleaner but he needs to work on his body.
Archie

And also great to see was Shadow in Incoming responding to occasional visitor Christine.

Shadow
Now we know that he likes pats, we all need to give them to him.

Aziza and co were moved out of Isolation because a small kitten with ringworm was moved in. A and the little A's are in the Palace. I moved one of the Lola anointed stratchy poles from the front foyer into the palace so that the kittens could move vertically to get to Aziza. (My chosen names have been approved).

A visitor came to choose a second kitten to go with her boy kitten. She fell for Hui Hui because Tim W has her trained to be carried around lying on her back in his arms! She may well be back tomorrow at 10am to adopt her (after consulting her mother).

Play time and shadows

I let Chelsea out in the Top Cat and she had a lovely time playing with ping pong ball. Emily and Annabelle were next (they are available as a bonded pair since we removed Emily's stitch. . . Annabelle didn't have one). They enjoyed it. I then put them back and opened Darcy's door. He was very unsure. Still hadn't ventured out by the time I left.

Darcy
Ciara, below him would have loved it.
Ciara

But Billy next door to him wouldn't have been seen ever again!

Billy

Which reminds me. When I arrived, Archie's door was opened an inch or two. He was in his box, Archie's Bar. Later, after he had been cleaned, the door was again unlatched. The latch needed to be tightened. But I think that is a temporary fix and it might loosen itself with use. I should have added it to Geoff's list of jobs.

The Play Place was empty so I let Gimli have a run around. Tim brushed him after getting covered in orange fur.

It seems that Prue and Trude have never been to the vet. They need to go before being offered for adoption. So today I moved out the goldfish bowl wooden box thing from their enclosure and put in a cat carrier just to get them used to something new. After cleaning the gold fish bowl thing, I installed it in Julie and Bass's enclosure. It only fits one way. At least their quilt fitted. I hope they like it.

Nova went to the vet's today to have her eye looked at. They said that it was swollen and giving her great pain so should be removed. It was done.

Ombre didn't look at all well this morning. And had not eaten much over night or at breakfast. Sue took her to the vet where she died. Poor wee thing. I remembered a french song: Un onbre de nous, restera toujour (an Ombre/shadow of ours will last forever). . .. was a song in the film "A Man and A Woman"

No Chicken Kitten

For the first time a kitten refused chicken.

Thor
His brother gobbled it up.
Eddie

Thor and Eddie are in the stand alone behind Le Clerc. Their sister, Ginger was with them until spotted by a mother and her daughter who were playing with the kittens in the Play Place when I arrived. They made friends with Tallulah (not an easy task) and fell in love with Celine Dion. But Celine has a slightly mucky eye. So when they saw Ginger, it was love at first sight . . . mutually. They took her home.

And another family, Dad and 2 small daughters came in to do the paperwork for Smudge and Xena in foster. They were such nice, polite, listening girls that I am sure those kittens will have a lovely life.

Archie doesn't seem to think his life is much fun. . . . so far. We will wait to see if Geoff's magic works on him.

Tommy's pad could do with an upgrade .. ... . perhaps after he gets groomed.

Tommy

Where Suki was are a pair of mismatched cats. One, Mad. . . is loud. The other, Zoe hides.

Mad. .
There are two carriers in the double condo which is enough to make anybody mad.

Zoe
Zoe looks pretty.

And next door to Chelsea are three kittens who were quite difficult to get back into their condo after they had been let out for a run behind the flattened Top Cat. They are Petal, Ziggy and Koa. Must have come from a foster home. They liked chicken.

Petal, Ziggy and Koa (not in any order)
I let Le Clerc out for a wander. He enjoyed it. He was very  easy to bribe back into his rearranged stand alone. . . .. all it took was a bit more food.

Boarders trickling in

Archie arrived today. I think he is one of ours. (See Friday, Sept 10, 2021) His people are moving this weekend and didn't want to subject him to that trauma (or themselves to the trauma of him disappearing in the middle of the chaos). They will pick him up on Sunday. They left his dinners and breakfasts in separate baggies so that he doesn't have to change his diet!

Bissie seems more comfortable after coming from his foster home on Wednesday.

Bissie

There is another new cat, Pippa in Incoming. Don't know her story.
Pippa

And PC is settling in. I think he is more interested in food than people.

Pippa
And there is a new Molly in Welfare. I think she came from a foster home because she has a list:

FIV+, all teeth removed, doesn't like other cats, loves scratches and laps, but doesn't like to be picked up, OK around strangers if in  familiar surroundings, always seems to be constipated (tried latulose for about a month but it didn't seem to work). Perhaps too much detail but I would suggest the hairball crunchies that certainly keep Codys colon moving! No photo because she is a black cat hiding in a dark carry cage.

I came home with the Cousin bin key in my pocket (again). I will try to drop it back before Tuesday so that they can be filled for Wednesday collection. I managed to get all the cardboard behind and under the couch into the blue bin.

Adoption Tails: Tofu, Archie, Jeremy, Walnut

 Tofu/Toto

the only photo I have of Tofu

1 day: He has eaten and used his litter box.

1 week: He is interested in exploring. He has been renamed Toto

Jeremy

1 day: He is going great and is a very happy boy. He’s eating well and has been using his litter box. He is very settled, affectionate and playful.

Jeremy

1 week: “He is so beautiful and very active all around the unit. Very playful and cheeky but also so affectionate”1 month: He is doing so well. He’s a very happy and cheeky boy. “We love him very much”

 Archie/Ernest

1.5 weeks: Archie has been renamed Ernest. He is doing so well. He follows his owner around especially when they’re working from home and has started exploring the living room. Yesterday, he started jumping up on the couch/bed to sit with his owner for the first time. He seems to be steadily getting more comfortable and confident.

Ernest
1 month: Ernest is super comfortable and is getting more confident. He sleeps on his owner’s bed with them every night and is very vocal around mealtimes.

Walnut

1 day: Walnut is doing well and seems quite settled. She has a good appetite and is eating well. She has used the litter too. “Her name suits her so she will be keeping her name”

Walnut, 2 days
1 week: She has full reign of the house now

Walnut, 1 week
1 month: She’s settled in really well and is a happy little cat. They registered her via email which was very smooth and had no fee.

Irresistable Peach

They came back early to get Peach today. She didn't really want to get into a carry cage but luckily Tim did the adoption and the transfer so no blood was shed. Here is the proof:

"Please Clean" on Pearch's condo

You can tell it was in the later part of the afternoon because Yin and Yan are out on observation duty. There is a plan afoot to move them to the pair of condo's with the connecting hatch currently occupied by Lucky and Suki.

A couple came in today looking for a "bonded" pair. They were after Midnight and Pumpkin but as they don't want the cats until Feb 20. . . . that train has left the station. They will keep an eye on the website between now and then now that they have met everybody.

If the move of Yin and Yan works well, I suggested that Sydney be added to the mixture so that that family of boys can be reunited.

Chikka has been moved to next to Max (on the other side from Libby)

Chikka
She was a bit shocked. She had been in boarding and Rosanna let her out for a wander this afternoon. Salazar spotted her and chirruped in a very suggestive manner.

Archie was adopted yesterday (or Thursday) by the person who was going to foster him. Chessy has moved into his condo. She has had some changes in the last week or so! (From male to female, desexed, moved).

Chessy

She is now next to Rebel who was playing with his ping pong ball after chicken time.

Rebel
A pile of cat carriers went to the vet for check ups this afternoon: Jolene, the little kitten in Incoming with the underdeveloped legs, Tiger with the funny tummy and Puss with no teeth.

Biggest donation ever

When I arrived at half past noon, it was not the usual state of mayhem. Two of the trainees didn't come at the last minute: one had covid (thanks for staying away) and the other had a house inspection (good idea to stay home). A woman looked lost so I asked if I could help. She explained that she came to look at Archie whom she might foster from next weekend if he doesn't get adopted in the meantime.

Archie
She has to set up things at home. She might bring in her housemate to meet him during the week. I said that we would put a carrier in his condo that he can hide in and make the transition easier.

Then a man came to adopt a kitten from a foster home. This is the second cat he has had from us so he was in the system and he knows the routine. It was the quickest, smoothest adoption that I have done.

Then a woman came in with a humongous donation. Arc had to go down to get a trolley-load of stuff three times. There is a teetering tower of clumping litter in the junk room. If you use it, please take a box. Or tell your fosterers to come and get a box or two. There was lashings of food in boxes and bags. I got so confused trying to find space for it all that I added a pair of boarders food to the general pile. Luckily Tim sorted that out. The lady benefactor was shown around by Tim and Katie.

Then a woman came in, scantily clad, to adopt a kitten from a fosterer. She had the kitten with her because it needed a shot. Tim attended to her. (It seemed to take much longer than my adoption earlier.)

Rosanna has devised a new way of using the Top Cat. Geoff approves. Tabby and Tibby had a lovely time playing there with Amber. Later Helena and Kate wandered around. In the meantime Ginger George had been let out to wander and his condo door was left open. H & K both went in and rolled on his bedding. Won't he have a surprise when he is put back!

Yuki adopted this morning

Which leaves Chi Chi all alone in the condo. And already she is out of the carry case and eating chicken out of Rosanna's fingers! Yuki must have been dominating her.

And Lumi has gone from his foster home. Being a rag doll, even though a short haired rag doll, he didn't last long on the list.

And Archie is at Safe Haven rather than being in a foster home. He looked glum this afternoon.

Archie
Ginger (George) had a couple of wanders this afternoon.

Ginger's late wander
Earlier Beans was in a collapsible carrier on his way back from the vet. He had an eye removed and was looking quite sorry for himself until Ginger George wandered over and introduced himself gently. Beans is now where Margot was . . . on top of Joni and her four boys. (I was wrong. She is Joni (Mitchell) not Tina (Turner). But Katie has claimed "Tina" for the next wild child who comes in.)

It is a pity that Dexter never seems to get a turn. Even Opie had a go. and he was easy to entice back into his stand alone with TD's.

Dexter
I asked after Nancy's Sid who went to a foster home. It seems that he left the building quite soon afterwards and hasn't been seen much since. Wonder if he compares escape stories with Romeo?

I  am sure that the morning vollies cleaned Tibby and Tabby's condo this morning. But I also cleaned it  this afternoon. . . . twice. Tabby sure knows how to wreck the joint! She is also equipped with 20 very sharp claws that go in all directions. Rosanna required bandaging when she picked up Tabby. I tried to wrap her in a cloth to trim her nails and got slashed as well. We have decided that the vet can trim her nails when she is under anaesthetic next week to be desexed. We will just have to keep them short.

Adoption Tails: Archie

Remember the woman who came to adopt Mayka but took Archie home instead. Here is their story.

 Archie, adopted May 27, 2022

1 day: He is doing good. He is eating and drinking daily but no toilet yet.1 week: He has settled well and started to explore outside on Day 4. He loves to play and eat.1 month: His new name is Ginger. He is getting used to his family. He loves to play hide and seek with the kids. "He is so cute".

Archie

PS Mayka spent time with Sandy in the play place on Wednesday (in her standalone). It was rather marred by the hairballs that had to come out when induced by small pieces of chicken. They both felt much better when that was cleaned up.

Max is back

I misnamed the escapee cat on Wednesday. It was Hana not Luna. I have corrected the blog. She has settled back into her condo. She must have told Lucy next door all about it last night because when I arrived around noon, all we could see of Lucy was her feet and her dream twitchy tail. She woke up in time for chicken.

Lucy's feet
But Max is back. Things seemed to be going well. He was getting on well with his new man . . . . accepting pats and laps and exploring the apartment. Then Max bit the man. The man had to go to hospital to have intravenous antibiotics. Max came back to us. He doesn't seem too upset. He was keen for chicken and enjoyed my company while I ate my lunch sitting on the white stool in front of his condo.
Max watching me
I spent the time trying to see differences between Princess and Precious. They both have short white front socks, long back socks, white bibs and tummies. The only difference I could pick was that one, on her left front paw has a black little toe and the other has all white toes. One black toe is Precious from her microchip. She is the shy one. Princess has all white toes and it more confident. . . . if anybody asks!

There is no difference between Bear and Ebby. Their mum, Ruby was adopted this afternoon by a woman who spent her time recovering from elbow surgery by scanning the "cats available" websites. Her 10th cat got tick bitten. She was delighted to find us, and came to choose between Ruby and Sootie. Not a hard choice if you want a lap cat.

And Katie found a home for Archie. He went home with the woman who came on Thursday to buy Mayka. They did all the paperwork and had the long discussion about Mayka being a shy cat and possibly never a lap cat. And the lady was keen. But when it came time to put Mayka into a carry cage, the cat wasn't having a bar of it. The lady decided that Mayka was not for her after all! She will be so happy with Archie.

More Gingers

Since last Wednesday, Gracie, Dumpling and Matteo have been adopted from Safe Haven and Suga and Hazelnut from foster. To counterbalance that outflow, we have new cats, currently parked in Boarding but soon to be elsewhere. Like Puma who is a young (6-12 month old) ginger whose fur reminds me of a Burmese's fur. But his face is all ginger DSH:

Puma

He is a loving armful and had a fine time in the play place.

Next door is Monika who most folk would call a boy because most gingers are boys.

Monika

But poor Zoe (not the old one but a new one) in Incoming went to the vet to be checked and came back a Zack and without any teeth. He is on soft food only at the moment. The old Zoe has gone to foster along with Archie and Beckie. I had a frantic phone call at 8:30am from her fosterer to say, on a very bad line, that she had found a paw in her carrier. I called back and learned that it was a claw not a paw so explained that cats shed their claw sheaths regularly. Peach also went to the vet and came back without any teeth. She has retired to her bed box.

Back to the new kids in Boarding. There is Yoko and Linda. Don't know who named them. Or who is who.

Yoko and Linda
And there are two new mums with kittens that Joy didn't get a photo of. Next time.

In the meantime, Cheena and Bubbles are settling down with us.

Cheena and Bubbles
And Wanda's kids are ready to move to the Cat Room and get adopted. . . . but only if those blinky eyes are not flu. . . . ..
Quentin, Bingo, Pickles, Squiggle
(Can we please change Squiggle's name to Squire. Imagine how undignified the cat will be as an adult being called Squiggle!)

Ginger Joy

Well, the nice older man did come to adopt Ruby. She was out waiting for him on Thursday as well as on Wednesday. I hope they will be very happy together.

Ruby
Archie has moved into her condo from Boarding. He is still a bit shy.

Archie

Whereas George, who is beside Max, is not shy at all. He is a super loving cat so won't last long once his scrotum has shrunk. It must have felt as though he was sitting on a marble today but it didn't seem to worry him. Those long lasting pain killers work really well or the thought of chicken erased any pain.

George, sitting carefully

Ginger, below Casper, has been sent to Incoming for quarantine.

The D kittens may not last the weekend. I figured out who was who: Dabi has the most golden face, Dumpling has straight lines on her forehead and a clouded area in her left eye and Dawn has squiggly lines on her forehead.

Dawn
At chicken time I got to pat Rosie, Magic's calico who lives with her sister Callie who is white and fluffy and does not want to be touched, thank you! And Jackson has moved downstairs again since I gave him a blanket there to lie on.
Taylor
Casper is looking a bit more relaxed too. . . . . about time!

Casper
But Sydney and Adelaide. . . . not so much.
Adelaide in front, Sydney beyond
