One less

I didn't take any photos except for Nahla today. Because she was looking so cute.

Nahla

 Thank goodness for Joy's photos.

Tilly must be sick of all the fuss at every meal time made by Biscuit and Milly. They fight over food.

Tilly

Biscuit and Milly

 Next door to B & M are Maple and Benny. . . another B & M!

Maple and Benny (who is who?)

They are very civilized compared with their neighbours. And friendly.

Irene was trying to guage whether or not Renny and Blossom are bonded. I say no. Others say yes. We need individual kittens made available for adoption for the coming school holidays.

Renny and Blossom
Irene may take one of them home to destress.

Peaches is the one who needs to be tamed. She has had it with us.

Peaches

This afternoon I fed in Incoming and discovered that one of Autumn's kittens was dead because Autumn was out of her bed box and happily stayed on the shelf. When I look closely at the photo I took on Wednesday there are only 5 kittens suckling. The sixth was probably dead then. She (a calico) probably died last week. She was very small and still had some umbilical cord attached. The trouble with overprotective mums is that we can't check out their kittens closely.

Aslan report:

He likes the warmer weather.

Incoming population explosion

 We have kittens.

Savannah and her Sebastian have been with us for a fortnight or so. But now they have another kitten. It was one of Elle's. The rest of her litter died so it was decided that the remaining kitten might have a better chance with Savannah. Sebastian is cooperating . . ..  for now.

Sebastian and ?Silas or Silvia
Savannah is cooperating, bless her.

Elle is not a happy cat. . .

Elle
There are three together in one condo who must be a mixed litter because two are bigger and shyer than the smallest tortie. The tortie is Rose and the others are Salt and Pepper . . . one male, one female.

Rose, in front and cowering S & P behind
Fawny had 2 kittens

Fawny's 2
Autumn had six!

spaced out Autumn + 6
Valentino turns out to be a girl and has a name change to Valentina and put on Mum and Bub food.

Valentina in waiting

And Roxie's 3 are getting bigger: even the little dark ginger (in the back) is getting bigger.

Roxy's 3

Bubble's five were on the bottom level this morning. They are usually in the upper bed box. I lifted them back because they couldn't jump up two levels but they didn't eat today. Neither did Bubble.

Geoff is home

He had trouble getting home after 6 grueling weeks living in a tent and fighting fires in a very small town in Saskacthewan (300 residents plus 60 Aussie fire fighters). They were out fighting not only burning trees but burning ground under the trees every day. Only the heavy snow cover of winter will put the fires out permanently. The trouble getting home was Air Canada. Don't use it. His is the second disaster I have heard of recently. They did get home eventually though and Air Canada will be charged for the excess baggage that United Airlines charged them!

I did the quickest adoption this afternoon. A woman came in to adopt a cat from foster home for herself. She had previously adopted a cat for her mother. So she knew the routine.

I asked Rong to count the carriers and the condos. We have 122 carriers and 61 condos. So even if there is more than one cat in a condo there will be enough carriers if we have to exit in a hurry.

I didn't take any photos because Joy spent time photographing cats on Wednesday and her photos are beautiful.

On Better Row:

Yahtzee plus 3
Geoff was very impressed with the blond kittens. (He has a weakness for Burmese-ish cats).

Willow
Geoff was delighted at how clean and relaxed her downstairs neighbour Archie looked. He promised to make Archie a new box/bar. Even Tommy looked sprucer to Geoff. But not as sparkling as Archie.

In Boarding:

Bree
Who looks as though butter wouldn't melt in her mouth but she has a very solid right fist full of claws.

Callie
Who is getting more used to people now that nobody is trying to give her medicine.

New in the Enclosures:

Sterling and Dorian
Who used to be on Better Row and then went home to Irene for some months. They are still shy.

In Welfare is Cody who has magnificent furnishings but is not availble yet. . . still.

Cody

And Rain who came in as a possible pregnant but failed to deliver

Rain
Is Autumn in Incoming going to be another?

Autumn
Thanks Joy for the lovely photos.

Whats with the bovine names?

There are two new cats on Better Row named Moo Moo and Humphrey!

It is easy to tell the Moo Moo is the girl because she is a calico. Unless they named a girl Humphrey!

They are next door to Yantzee plus three how have moved out of Isolation. There used to be four kittens but one was not well last week.

Yantzee + 3
In fact, Isolation now only houses the remaining three Planet kittens.  Even Peaches has moved to Welfare. She doesn't look so happy about it despite hating it in Isolation.

Peaches
New next to Julie and Bassuria (who were fighting today!) is Alex and Olive.  . . . . . she is a black olive. Don't know where they came from. They are shy.

Alex and Olive

And they are next to loud Will who has scratched his eye. We suspect that some vollies are giving treats to cats even though they have "Special Diet" on their condos.

It is not surprising to think that  a special diet would include treats! Perhaps we should change to a sign "Exclusive diet" or "Restricted diet" instead.

Will
Inappropriate treats may be the reason that Julie and Bass are fighting.

I am ready for the traditional September kitten season having sewn a new litter of Elizabethan collars.

It was wonderful that Robin came to visit today.

And that Maple and Benny got adopted (at 3:40. . . . I almost did a Terry!)

New faces in Welfare

India and China were adopted this afternoon by a young woman who really wanted Spagetti but she had been chosen already. After talking to her sister she decided that they really needed a pair of kittens. They came, they fell in love, they adopted.

And the young man who came on Wednesday looking for a cat to foster, came back this afternoon to take Eli home. So now that whole side of Welfare has new occupants. (Not including the Cody annex).

On the far left is:

Rory upstairs. His eye is well healed.

Rory

Below him (where Pepper used to be) is Brennan.

Brennan

And next door to Rory is Rain. (From Incoming but not pregnant after all).

Rain
And below Rain where Frankie was is Heffer who used to be in a double with Ginger but they really were not bonded so have been separated. (Even after an hour since Heffer left the condo, Ginger was not going to come out of his carrier on the bottom level).

Heffer

Ollie was moved to where India and China were. He was not easy to move. We had to call on Tim! I think he will be happier to have an enclosed space to hide in. . . eventually.

Ollie

Below Ollie where Eli was is Zena, aka Xena who is called Goldie on all her paperwork so we are going to revert to that name because ?. . . . she has no gold. Except for the cloth carrier bag that she came in by cat taxi which is on top of Cody's condo.

Goldie = Zena = Xena

Skinny teeth

I arrived at Safe this morning before the Willoughby truck. So I thought that I would just check in the basement to see if both bins were on the pavement on my way upstairs. One wasn't. It was empty. Just on the off chance, I took it upstairs with me and found 9 bags of trash on the balcony. So I put them in the bin and took it down to the sidewalk. The Willoughby truck had just collected our lot and the man was organising the bins next door. He, very kindly, emptied my bin before moving on.

So when it came to filling the Cousins bins, one was almost full (28.9Kg) and the other had only 10.4Kg in it.  . . . . until we got the diagnosis of the planet kittens in the play place. One died over the weekend so they all went to the vet. The diagnosis is serious and two more have died since. So the play place had a thorough bleach treatment. And I filled the second Cousins bin with large, potentially un-disinfectable things from there. We hope we have caught the highly infectious bug before it spreads further.

Choc and Chip heard the fuss and the bolder of the two, Chip has taken to sitting on top of his shy brother to keep him safe. Sorry for the fuzzy photo. But, of course, kittens will move when you point a camera at them.

Chip and half a Choc
Where Mieka and Loki were are Maple and Benny . . . another bonded pair. Maple is the front "man" and Benny, with the brown nose is shyer. But they are very sweet.

Maple (left) and Benny (behind)
On high on Better Row is another gorgeous ginger boy called Bobby. I don't think I have seen a pattern like his.

Bobby
And we have a ginger Brennan:

Brennan

And Biscuit and Milly:

Biscuit and Milly
Gingers galore.

And the bad ginger news is the Griffin was returned today having been adopted on Monday! He got on with the resident cat and with the young(-ish) man who adopted him. But the mother thought that there wasn't enough room for a second cat!

He is getting to be Griffin the travelling cat.

Zoomies

Aslan is settling down at my house. Last night he had a case of the zoomies at bedtime. Then he came to bed and wanted to get under the doonah. Perhaps he was being chased by a mouse through the house!

The "pregnant mum" still doesn't have a name. And she still only has one kitten even though she is still rather plump. They are a devoted couple and deserve nice names.

Pregnant mum + 1
Roxy's little tabby died last week so she only has two gingers and the smaller champagne left. I was going to check their sexes today so that we could assign Joy's suggested names:

for boys: Rafael, Rascal, Rocky, Rufus

for girls: Rowena, Raven, Rosie, Ruby

But I didn't get around to it. I got distracted by trying to tidy up the store room. ("Tidy up" is not the appropriate term. . . . more like "clear a bit of space")

Rain hasn't had any kittens yet. Neither has Mouse.

Rain

Mouse

But they add to the lovely collection of gingerish cats we currently house. And we can use some of Joys' names for their kittens.

Renny and Blossom's "brother" Darley died overnight. He was not eating last week so something was very wrong. I wonder if Renny and Blossom knew and that is why they excluded him.

Blossom

Renny

Ollie is doing well since his little sister, Daisy died last week. He is more confident and eats more enthusiastically.

And this afternoon I gave the blind cat in Boarding a good brush which he enjoyed. Now that he is clean I can see that he has ginger fur on his front feet. So perhaps he is a tortie. Male torties are very, very rare.
