Found it!

 When I stopped at the post box this morning to see if any mail had come while I was away, there is was. Sitting, black side upwards, on my black car seat. Big sigh of relief all round.

Milky Way is all alone in the greeting stand alone. Now that his brothers Jupiter and Orion have been adopted he gets lots of attention.

Since they have left her condo, and she has come onto heat, she is a reformed character and wants cuddles! (from Tim, I am not brave enough).

She is a newcomer in Incoming. When I fed her afternoon tea she was lying on her back with her legs in the air. Kim took Sebastian home with her this afternoon so as to give Sybie some room to recover without "big brother" hogging all the food.

We got a new cat from a colony today from a devoted colony cat carer (Her colony has about 20 cats). He is Angel and he is a sweetie. I had to turf Ravyn out of her stand alone, give it a quick steralization, and reinstall it beside the door. It was nice not having a stand alone there.

 Sue took pity on my post cold croaky-ness and sent me home early. Even though I tangled up with the school traffic, Aslan is thrilled. He reckons that he will be able to get two dinners if he eats the first one fast enough. He has a mouse that he prefers to play with.

Which means that I didn't take any photos today. There was opportunity when Roxie's kittens and the three left-over kittens had a lovely frolic in the Top Cat. But I missed it. I was sorting out the Willoughby bins that didn't get collected until this afternoon. But the Couzens paper bin was emptied this morning.

So back to Joy's superior photos from last Wednesday. 

The lovely Willow has decided that people are not all scary. But she is not prepared to come off her cloud most of the time.

 Freckles and Rosie have been moved from the back corner of Boarding to the Welfare floor. They are getting less spitty. One of them is quite calm, most of the time.

They are next door to Bubble and Squeek who are still shell shocked at their move. By the time they have chewed their box to pieces, they should be settled down.

 In November, we averaged one adoption a day: 30 for the month. Well done us!

Incoming population explosion

 We have kittens.

Savannah and her Sebastian have been with us for a fortnight or so. But now they have another kitten. It was one of Elle's. The rest of her litter died so it was decided that the remaining kitten might have a better chance with Savannah. Sebastian is cooperating . . ..  for now.

 There are three together in one condo who must be a mixed litter because two are bigger and shyer than the smallest tortie. The tortie is Rose and the others are Salt and Pepper . . . one male, one female.

 Bubble's five were on the bottom level this morning. They are usually in the upper bed box. I lifted them back because they couldn't jump up two levels but they didn't eat today. Neither did Bubble.

Joy reports on the Cat Lovers Festival

Did the SAFE stand on Sunday morning at the Cat Lovers Festival. Louie was the star cat being so energetic until lunch time when he flaked out! I noticed he was missing from website following day so daresay someone fell in love with him! 

 

Big Khuna was so chilled and out walking on the table with his harness on. He’ll make a lovely pet. Bubbles was a bit stressed so didn’t really participate. 

 Don’t think it was as busy as last year but this time I did a Sunday (rather than Sat). 

 

It was good to see so many small local animal shelters from various parts of Sydney and NSW 
like us unfortunately not government funded but at least they exist & are trying which is a plus.

 The fire alarm system was being checked and they turned off the electricity in the morning. We asked for it to be turned on if they could have it off a bit later (after the work had been done.) We compromised

Bubbles and Squeek were deliberated over this afternoon by a young couple. The kittens behaved beautifully while being observed. I didn't tell the people that they had been fighting, wrestling and generally behaving like boys all day long. The people will be back tomorrow morning (early) to adopt them and for them to be vaccinated which might slow them down for a nanosecond.

I hope that Tim has rounded up Stardust by then. When I went around to Boarding to feed them their dinner, Stardust's condo door was wide open. Surprisingly, there was no cat in the condo. He hadn't gone far. And, thank goodness, he was at ground level not on top of the condos. Eventually he found a good hiding place on the lowest clean linen shelf. After the folk who came to adopt one of the fostered cats had left Sue and I tried to entice him back into his condo. No go. So we left him securely stuffed onto the shelf with his dinner in a carry cage pressed up against the shelf. All Tim will have to do is to shut the door (we hope).

We tried to entice Amelia out of her condo this afternoon. She wasn't having a bar of the big wide world, thank you. She did tolerate pats and hair brushes. But not stepping out onto the conveniently placed stracthy pole.

 

Moet and Jerry are on the Available List. I suspect that Moet is the cat who got at the bags of crunchies stacked on the floor beside the food shelves on Better Row. She was very keen to get the door of the play place open today. I moved the secondary latch from inside to outside and it kept her in during the day. 

As are Miz and Riley. They are supposed to be bonded but Riley prefers Champ. She makes a bee line to his condo as soon as Charlie steps out. Not for the food because the girls have more in their condo. Charlie is inclined to wander into their place on the off chance of an extra nibble. Miz is not happy to share her space. She'd rather wander around. Cats are interesting.

 You will have noticed that there are more cats on the for Adoption web page. Irene came in today and helped Tim make some decisions. 

Consequently, Josh and Jake have left Josie on Better Row and moved into Bonny's condo. They trashed it within 5 minutes. So Josie must have been exerting some discipline on them when they shared a condo. With any luck, Terry will do his magic tomorrow and they will be gone.

There were also cats moved to foster homes. The three kittens who came in on Wednesday have gone to another foster home. Elsa has gone to a foster home (good luck with that wild child!) As has Tiger and the two little tabbies from Incoming.

Plus, this afternoon Annabelle was adopted by a vollie.

And Fleur was adopted by a woman who adopted another of our kittens a few months ago. He is pining for a playmate so Fleur is a lucky kitten. Florence and Freya were in a mourning ball after she left.

I have solved the problem of Barry eating Blaze's food. Put down their dishes in separate corners of their stand alone. When Barry has gobbled most of his meal, he rushes over to gobble Blaze's. Pick him up and put him back in front of his dish. Repeat this procedure until Blaze has finished most of his meal. Then when Barry rushes over, move his dish to the spot where Blaze's was and vice versa. And move Blaze to the other side of the condo in front of his dish. Barry will settle down and demolish the final few scraps that he left in his dish. I don't suppose that this will work for long. But it might work for long enough for Blaze to put on a bit of weight.

I recharged the battery and put in the date and time zone. If only other electronics were as simple!

Vollie Michelle came in this afternoon with her daughter whose 3 year old grey cat has just died. She just wanted the comfort of being around folk who love cats and other cats (especially grey ones like her previous cat.) Violet fit the bill.

And Dexter who almost bit me. I picked him out of the box that I put into his condo that he loves and he sat happily to be admired in my arms for a while. But then he got stroppy and went to bite me. Luckily I knew the signs and my shirt got bitten while my arm escaped all by very marginal tooth marks. Which Emily happily bandaged for me even though it was really a waste of a good bandage.

Max and Maisie came in to board. It took her owners three hours to get Maisie into the carrier. They carefully hadn't made any moving moves. . . . no suitcases taken out of cupboards, etc, etc. But she KNEW that something was going on. Max was no trouble, of course. I put her into their condo in her small carrier. When the owner left I checked on them and Max had moved in with Maisie. The small furry grey mouse is theirs.

We have a boarder called Josie who needs eye treatment. As well as our Josie's kittens who both have gummy eyes that need treatment. Confusion!

And Bubbles needs ointment in her eyes too. She hates it. But loves any kind of attention so is prepared to put up with it if she gets a cuddle as well.

Eric was delivered from his foster home. He had been getting on well with the fosterer's two girl cats but recently has started to try to take over the dominant position which entails urinating on their couch and standing over the girls. So let's see if he can get adopted from us quickly. He is in the stand alone beside Mouse who is a good draw card.

Adoption Tails: Cheena and Bubbles, Dibbles, Eric and Lucy

Cheena and Bubbles 

1 day: They’re settling in very well. They’ve both been coming out of their hidey hole to explore their safe room, play and eat/drink. They’ve definitely stepped into the litter tray but haven’t used it yet.

 1 week: They’ve been renamed Vera and Olive. They were interested in exploring the house a few days ago, but they were getting really scared if their owners would move or walk past them. They’re going to keep them in their safe room until they’re less scared of their owners. They seem to be gradually getting less scared. They stretch out in their beds when their owners are in the room with them, purring and sniffing the food they gave them. They’re still eating well and are using the litter and their owner thinks they’re feeling safer by the day. They’re warming up to the house but are still wary of their owners. In the evening, Vera (formerly Cheena) let them feed her treats and she nuzzled her head into their partner’s hand. Both cats ate in front of them which they hadn’t done before.

 1 month: They’ve seen a lot of changes. They’re both doing very well and seem much more comfortable around their owners. They tend to watch them warily when their owners walk around, but both come close when they’re sitting and relaxing. They’ve slowly moved the litter box to the bathroom and they haven’t had any issues. Olive is still wary when her owners are nearby, but she’s slowly getting braver. She doesn’t really like to be touched, but she starts relaxing and purring after a few gentle strokes. They’ve been exploring every room for a few weeks. They even snuck into the bedroom closet and started bumping around when their owners were asleep. They both seem really happy, and they’re very playful with each other at night and when their owners are around.

2 weeks: He is definitely settling in well. He loves exploring and climbing and is getting more courage to explore outside his safe room. They’re keeping his name.

1 month: He is out and exploring. He went to the vet for some antibiotics and antiseptic treatment but his behaviour was unaffected.

2 months: Dibbles is fully settled in at home.

1 day: Eric is lovely. So friendly! He’s using his litter tray, eating and drinking. They will keep his name. He is being kept separate from the resident cat and will be slowly introduced. “He’s the absolute best.”

1 week: Eric is doing very well. He has started to explore the apartment. They think he is settling in very nicely. “He is the best. We cuddle every night.”

1 month: Everything is going really well. “He is an absolute sweetheart”

1 day: She is still hiding in the carrier during the day but ate all the food left in the bowl last night. She escaped from her safe area overnight and was quite stressed out from that. They are keeping her name. She left the carrier in the evening to sit in her new bed.

 2 days: Lucy went back to her carrier and has been staying there. She ate all of her dry food and used her litter box.

1 week: Her owners bought a playpen and think she’s adjusting well.
