In they came

Irene scheduled folk with cats to come in at hourly intervals but they all arrived at the same time!

The first was a mum with her 8year old daughter who wanted to foster a needy cat. They finally chose Mia. Irene had no trouble getting her into a carrier!

Then a woman came to surrender her beloved Mr Blondie. She is moving overseas and can't take him with her. Irene already has a fosterer lined up for Mr Blondie who will pick him up on Monday.

Mr Blondie
I wonder if we should tell them about the trolley load FULL of stuff for him. His person was in floods. He was shell shocked.

Then a couple of blokes arrived who have a pair of loving cats. They (the men) have joined the navy so can't keep the cats.

Ravioli
They are a bonded pair. So where the rag doll Ravioli goes, Billie will follow. . . slowly.
Billie

Two of the 6 kittens on Better Row were gleefully adopted by a woman whose husband and children will be THRILLED when they get home tonight. One must have been adopted during the Adoption Day at Collaroy Vets last Saturday. The final 3 have been moved to Archie's condo in Welfare. [Any voodoo I can do to keep Archie at home is worth it!]

The Friday vollies were delighted to have Dawson back again. He got hours of lap time. To the extent that he had to go downstairs for a snooze.

Dawson returned

He behaved very well in his new home. But the adopters figured out, when they got him home, that they wanted to reproduce their previous family of a greyhound who was subservient to a female cat. They realised that Dawson, being blind, might just be overwhelmed by a greyhound. (As would I). She showed me videos of Dawson walking around "his" room towards the kiddy gate at the door. I am sure that they were told to keep him in a Safe Room not a room open to a large house with all the many sounds and smells coming at him.

Put it down to experience for him. He, and we, will choose better next time. Today he was quiet but not distressed to be back "home".

Dawson
Moo went to the vet to be desexed. When they opened her up, they found that she had already been desexed. BRING BACK THE TATTOOs on desexed cats ears. (All other tattoos should be discouraged, IMO). We cut down a carpet tile so that she can have ground floor carpet in the small stand alone.
Moo
Mike also went to the vet. He has had teeth/tooth removed. . . . yum. . . wet food forever, he thinks.

Mike looking for dinner
This morning when I arrived, Goosy was very pleased to see me. Then to be fed by me. The rest of the day she didn't want to know me. Until dinnertime when she was my bestie again.

They know our routines.

2 Goosy's

We have a new cat on Better Row. Dinesh looks like a hang over from Halloween.

Dinesh
Delaney, for her final saving graceful gesture to Safe this afternoon, fixed the connection of the phone to the payment app. THANK YOU, Delaney. It has been a pleasure working with you.

Archie Adopted

When I saw on the Safe website this morning that he had been adopted, I assumed it was the woman who came and smooched with him on Wednesday afternoon. But it was a couple, much younger, who took him home yesterday. Heavens to Betsy! I hope they have patience because he will disappear for a quite a while. I wonder if we can get Geoff to make him another Archie's Bar box to settle him into his new home?

The only other thing missing when I arrived at Safe this noontime, was vollies. All but 4 called in sick. But those 4 plus the ADM's did sterling work and everybody was happy, clean and fed. The vollies were rewarded by the six kittens in Amie's old condo. (Amie wasn't feeling too good today). These kittens are to go with Irene to an adoption day at the Collaroy vets tomorrow. But they aren't ready for adoption even though they have been desexed. They are all boys which makes it easier and not so weight dependent as with girls. (It is the anesthetic which is hard for vets to calculate). And there are 4 tabbies (plus 1 ginger and one tuxedo) who are hard to tell apart.

Here is a photo of Moo to lighten Joy's heart.

Moo
She has been booked into the vet next week to see if she is pregnant or not. She is getting fat but that is because she is on pregnant cat rations.

For the first time Valentina's kittens were out at dinner time.

I think she will have to fight for her share as they grow.

The new cat in Incoming has a warning on his condo:

But he is a pussy cat:

Binx
In contrast to Dory in Welfare who does not want to be with us or to be seen or to be looked at:

He is in Dawson's condo. I hope that some of D's vibe will rub off on Dory.

Adoption Tales: LeClerc

1 day: “He has spent most of his time in his carrier in which we brought him home. He is eating and drinking but hasn't used the litter yet. He has warmed up to the humans in the house so has rubbed against and allowed to be picked up. He is still very cautious and low to the ground when walking. We will be renaming him. Already renamed to Jelly bean (inspired from another cat from the shelter). Here is a picture of a rug that my daughter made in a carpet weaving class today. Leclerc inspired.“

1 week: “Jellybean is doing wonderfully! He is very confident and has already adapted to his new room. He loves to play and wants to explore the rest of the house already”

1 month: “They are now on almost completely friendly terms. Running after each other, playing and sleeping in the same place.”

Archie drooled

Archie has a visitor who is determined to find him a foster home. She has worked with AWL for many years (knew Peggy mum) and has a great touch with cats. Archie was in heaven. She is going to drop by to spend 15 minutes with him frequently

Teddy has been adopted. . . already.

Teddy
And so has Moo Moo. . . thank goodness all the cow names have gone.

And Saturn's sisters vanished over the weekend. He feels lonely and cries for somebody to come play with him.

Saturn

Talking of things celestial. I went out this afternoon to take the paper to the Cozen's paper bin and there was a vapour trail from behind our building, over the top way high and extending to a thin line in the direction of Parramatta, probably. It was most impressive.

We had Peter and Brock out to play. And Ravyn for a while. She was more interested in food. (Not surprising as she looks quite thin when walking around).

Ravyn

Irene did a fabulous job on the medicine cabinet last Friday.

And I got enough hair from a scratchy pole to make a kitten.

Kiki adopted

Sorry I am late. I got talking to my niece to celebrate my birthday and it went on, and on.

It was a quiet Friday. We had one visitor who arrived late (traffic) to adopt Kiki. Both were thrilled and it went smoothly. (Irene took a photo to be posted on the WWB).

I will use Joy's delightful photos of the mums and bubs on Wednesday.

Valentine plus 2
She is still a kitten herself. Somebody Googled when a cat could first get pregnant and Valentine probably was on the theoretical schedule! She is a kitten and has these two great kittens of her own.

Savannah is on heat, again. Her two: Sebastian (her own) and Sybie (given to her after Seb's birth) are both  flu-full. They need a bigger space.

Sybie (ex Elle)

Sebastian and Savannah

Today Peter and Brock broke out of the Top Cat and had a lovely time running all around Welfare. This is probably their more usual activity than sitting, demurely, in their condo when Joy snapped them.

Peter and Brock

If they don't get adopted soon it will break Irene's heart.

Teddy moved

He has moved into Will's enclosure because Will was adopted.

Teddy
Not only Will but Dawson as well.

But Dawson is still with us because he is boarding while his new owners organise their lives around his coming. They adopted him on Monday. On Sunday another couple came, saw him, liked him and took home the folder contents to see if he was the right cat for them. Today they noticed that he was no longer available on our web site. Rang and found that he had been adopted from under their noses.

And today, a man came and adopted Choc and Chip. I hope this one sticks. They walked into a large-ish cat carrier with a small bribe in it I had put their bed in it before and quickly covered it over with their blanket when the door was closed. Don't think we checked the microchips this time. But we know they are right from the last time they were adopted.

The young man who fostered Eli came for another visit. He showed me all the photos of Eli playing at home with him. Said he would forward them to Safe. He smears the wet treat all over the plastic pad and Eli spends half an hour licking it off.

Eli
Moo Moo is happy that Humphrey has been adopted and she has a double condo all to herself.

Moo Moo

Such a stunning looking cat should have a better name.

Sue found a 2024 Safe calendar, cut it up and I stuck the pages on the wall by the front desk. The only cat still with us is Lola who is featured on the small grey picture at the top of the display. She looks better now than back then.

Not busy

17 vollies came today. So they were all finished and mostly gone by the time I arrived just before noon! A couple stayed longer to give Dawson his lap time. The young man who spent lots of time with Goldie and thereby eased her way to being adopted, has changed his attention to Dawson. . . . fingers crossed it will work for Dawson.

The only visitor we had was a young woman who brought a lot of brand new toys for our cats. (I said "No" to a telephone question about if we needed any towels). She stayed for ages taking her phone friend around the cattery and talking to her and the cats. ? Another customer.

Of course, because I wasn't frantically busy I forgot all about taking any photos! So back to Joy's which are a delight.

Buzz is a new boy in Incoming. He has settled down since Joy's photo but I get the feeling that he would much rather be in a bigger space with a better view. (He is below Valentina who is desperate for human company and still sniffling.)

Buzz

Rory is another boy who is desperate for more interaction. It will be a relief when his "under observation" card is removed and we can give him the interaction he needs.

Rory
Lilly is one of those cats who hides most of the time. She "just vants to be alone" to quote Greta Garbo.

Lilly

Chai is a bit like that too. She is still on wet food only.  She must have had a lot of teeth removed.

Chai

Which reminds me: this morning when I didn't get up early enough for his breakfast time, Aslan jumped onto my bed and I patted him. He gently took my hand in his mouth. He has no teeth. It was a very nice "bite."

PS Giovanni has been chosen and will be picked up/processed on Monday. He didn't even make it to the website. . . . oh! the irresistible-ness of being a Ragdoll!

Tuesday, November 4, 2025

He has arrived

Giovanni. With a scratchy pole, a bed and a brand new cloth cat carrier. The telephone is already ringing with enquirers for this ragdoll.

If only folk will phone for the Planet kittens who are now available. Mateo is booked into the Palace in 10 days or so. It would be good to say bye-bye to them before then.

Saturn giving Neptune a neck rub (with hiertongue)

Teddy doesn't seem to take any notice of them, in their palace, across the way from his play place.

Teddy

I got a shot of boarder Estelle's lovely green eyes because she had discarded the puffer jacket. . . . probably in disgust that her owner hasn't picked her up yet. I think she will take a while to forgive that owner for deserting her.

Estelle
Bissie was up and about this morning. Long time since I have seen her feet. She is shedding masses of hair. What a pity she will not tolerate being brushed.

Bissie

But Callie is getting more interactive. Don't think it will be long before she likes to be groomed.

Callie (Joy's photo)
Mike doesn't look like he will ever need to be brushed. . . I can do it myself
