Shy ones appear

 There was a happy crew of vollies today and after they left the cats were eager to interact.

 Persephone was introduced to THE shoulder. She knew just what to do. (Must have seen my blog posts).

Later in the afternoon, she seriously napped to recover from the thrill of smelling Mayavan's hair.

 Tahlia, who arrived from the western suburbs on Wednesday turned on a show for Robin who visited this afternoon. Look at these whiskers! And an orange leg to display when she joy rolled. Not to mention the green eyes.

 Later in the afternoon, I had a loving time with Nala! Up to now she has hidden and pointedly refused food. Today she jumped up to her ledge, licked the blankey and allowed me to pat her.

Her neighbour, Muffin has devised a new game. You poke your finger against the sheet covering her stand alone and she tries to pounce on your finger. It is an endless game.

On our website it says that she is tail-less. But she does have a very cute, short, pompom tail.

New vollies

 We had two today. And yesterday (while I filled in in the afternoon) a potential vollie came to check us out. She stayed for ages but decided to join the team. There will be training tomorrow, I understand, as lots of locals have shown interest.

No visitors or adoptions but we had a phone call from a woman who would like to foster Ravyn for 2 days in order to make a decision about adopting her! We routinely advise folk to allow 3 months for a cat to settle into a new home.

Anthea dropped by in the afternoon to socialize the cats. I think she only intended to stay a short while but she stayed all afternoon. Muffin enjoyed several sessions.

And Nala ignored her attempts to make friends. I carried Nala downstairs yesterday. I thought that putting her into a carry cage would just upset both of us so picked her up in her fluffy bed, held the opening against my stomach and walked down to the stand alone where Cosmo and C-friend were. (Have they gone to a foster home?)

Today she was still sulking. I don't think she has eaten anything since she arrived even though she was provided with food by her previous owners along with all kinds of toys and "stuff".

All the C kittens went to be desexed but only the 2 boys came back. The vets didn't have time to do the girls. They should be home tomorrow morning. The boys are delightful.

 Today we moved Rosie's kittens down from upstairs to the Voonie enclosure. All the V's except Vegas have been adopted. He has moved to Lola's small stand alone. Perhaps I should rename that to Jimmy's twice adopted stand alone. As we were short staffed (THANK YOU Catsie for coming to help out) I cleaned upstairs so got to clean the Rosie stand alone and move Gideon into it. It will be warmer for him overnight in "the office". He is eating very well but seems to have forgotten about getting to the litter tray.

The entertainment for the Rosie kittens was when Kenny and Pablo made a dash from their enclosure. Pablo was a snap to get back in. . . . just open the door with food in your hand. But Kenny got all confused and ran back and forwards until he saw Pablo inside and rushed to join him.

And Robyn noticed the fabulous curls in Muffin's ears. (Her right eye looked a bit weepy but it might just have been the colouration there).

Ravyn wasn't feeling well. She declined to go for a walk. Even though she has a smart new harness and leash donated by a woman who wanted to give us a litter tray. (Thanks but no thankyou).

 I thought it was my camera. But her back end is definitely ginger. Today she was moved out of the low stand alone to an enclosure upstairs. She seemed delighted with the move because her back glowed.

I do not believe the orange glow is a reflection from that orange doona cover that is now an enclosure cover. But she matches.

We have some new cats. Penelope and Ariel have moved into Incoming (the area along the wall beside the feeding station.) They came in from a fosterer who was able to cuddle them both. Ariel is the tabby and is the friendly one. The other is Penelope, ginger and white.

The same fosterer brought in Peaches and her litter. They have moved into the enclosure next to Sparrow.

 Peaches is a fluffy (DMH) ginger without any white on her. Her kittens are quite big (F5s). There is Muffin who is grey calico with a stub tail,

The fosterer said she must have been hungry when she named them.

 When I arrived I noticed that Ravyn's play place door was open. But she was curled up in her small box. When I turned to the feeding area, I found a bag of crunchies that had been chewed open. Ravyn was not as hungry today as usual. It was a good thing, perhaps, that she chose a bag of "light crunchies" (for fat cats) to overindulge in.

A little later I must have not closed the G kitten's enclosure door after giving them their breakfast. Because all, bar Grayson (the grey, three legged kitten), were running around in Welfare. I caught three of them but couldn't see the fourth one anywhere. I searched in Incoming, Isolation and the Junk room. No sign of the kitten. So I continued feeding breakfasts and soon out she came from under the food shelves beside me. Easy to pick up and carry back home. Thank goodness.

Muffin was in a very friendly mood this afternoon. Pity the woman who rather fancied Paige didn't choose her. (Paige was adopted over the weekend, And so was Minnie). She will be back when one of Nutmeg's girls is desexed. But which one to choose?!

 When I stopped at the post box this morning to see if any mail had come while I was away, there is was. Sitting, black side upwards, on my black car seat. Big sigh of relief all round.

Since they have left her condo, and she has come onto heat, she is a reformed character and wants cuddles! (from Tim, I am not brave enough).

We still have Bubbles' kittens Rainbow, Fizz and Suds. And Tiger is the last of his litter since Dash was taken home.

In they came

 Irene scheduled folk with cats to come in at hourly intervals but they all arrived at the same time!

The first was a mum with her 8year old daughter who wanted to foster a needy cat. They finally chose Mia. Irene had no trouble getting her into a carrier!

Then a woman came to surrender her beloved Mr Blondie. She is moving overseas and can't take him with her. Irene already has a fosterer lined up for Mr Blondie who will pick him up on Monday.

 I wonder if we should tell them about the trolley load FULL of stuff for him. His person was in floods. He was shell shocked. 

Then a couple of blokes arrived who have a pair of loving cats. They (the men) have joined the navy so can't keep the cats.

 They are a bonded pair. So where the rag doll Ravioli goes, Billie will follow. . . slowly.

Two of the 6 kittens on Better Row were gleefully adopted by a woman whose husband and children will be THRILLED when they get home tonight. One must have been adopted during the Adoption Day at Collaroy Vets last Saturday. The final 3 have been moved to Archie's condo in Welfare. [Any voodoo I can do to keep Archie at home is worth it!]

The Friday vollies were delighted to have Dawson back again. He got hours of lap time. To the extent that he had to go downstairs for a snooze.

Adoption Tails: Venice, Muffin, Ella, Jorge and Gingerbread

Venice & Muffin

 Venice & Muffin were still quite shy when adopted and the owner has been very patient and has continued to work on their confidence. 1 week: They are super shy and still very scared. The owners are going slowly and giving them plenty of space.

 

1 month: Venice and Muffin are still very shy. The owners try their best to give some love and cuddles. They will need more time, especially Muffin. They're hopeful that the two become more comfortable and confident in the future.

1 day: Ella is still very reserved as the owner expected. She is mostly just hiding under the bed but has eaten and used her litter tray. She's all set up in her own room. The owner is keeping her name.

1 week: Ella is going okay, still a bit shy but she has started coming out of the room and coming into the owner's room. She's been slowly approaching the owner but has yet to allow petting. She is eating well.

Jorge

 

1 day: Jorge is very well and is staying on just one side of the house from the resident cat who is aware of his presence. They have yet to meet each other. Jorge is eating very well, toileting and sleeping very well. He plays a lot and is very affectionate with the owners.

 

1 week: orge is doing very well. He is so playful and naughty. He is so affectionate. The owner's older, resident cat is already getting more friendly with Jorge, the two will smell each other.

 

 

1 month: Jorge and the resident cat are good friends now. They are so cute together!

 

 Gingerbread, now Maya

 

1 week: She is slowly settling in. Doing very well now. She is a very playful kitten and is so adorable.

1 month: Gingerbread is now called Maya. She is still growing and very well adjusted in the apartment. The owner took her to the vet for a flea treatment. "Thanks for introducing Maya in my life."

2 days: She is doing really well. She is already friends with their resident cat (Basil) and dog (Spinach) and even prefers using Basil’s litter box instead of her own. She is still being kept in her own room to sleep in for the time being. She has a great appetite, drinks lots of water, and has pooped a couple of times. She has been renamed Shiso. She is still sneezing but is otherwise very playful and energetic.

1.5 weeks: Her flu symptoms have improved. There is almost no sneezing now and Basil didn’t get any flu symptoms. Shiso still has some eye discharge and eye crusties but her owners are hopeful they’ll clear up soon.

1 month: “She’s good!” She absolutely loves her food and is eating lots. “We have to put her food bowl down first in the morning as otherwise she will steal our dog’s food”

Luna

1 day: She is settling in very well. She’s eating, drinking, and using the litter tray. Her safe room is a master-sized bedroom and she’s fine in there but has been out exploring the apartment at supervised times. She’s also slept through the night. Her owners will not be renaming her as Luna suits her.

2 weeks: She’s doing really well. She is happy and doing all the right things. She’s adjusting well.

1 month: “She’s going well. She’s a sweetie just still very gradually getting Miss Minx to get used to her.”

1 day: “He is absolutely delightful and has settled in without any hiccups”

10 days: “He is absolutely delightful and settled completely.” His owner says he is a very clever boy.

Muffin

1 week: Muffin is doing great and everything is on schedule. He’s eating, sleeping, and using his litter tray. They’re slowly introducing him to their resident cat.

1.5 weeks: Muffin and their resident cat are “doing fine with each other”. Their resident cat is still slightly uncomfortable. She’s a bit territorial so sometimes, if Muffin gets too close, he gets a warning slap. She has been less anxious lately, “less slapping more sniffing”

1 month: Everything is fine. Their resident cat and Muffin are now playing chase together.
