Adoption Tails: Aitkins, Elsie and Eliza; Paul; Rosina

Atkins, now Denver

Atkins 1 week

2 days: “He is perfectly fine”. He has been eating and drinking and has been renamed Denver.

1 week: “Denver is doing great. The whole apartment is his safe place. He is a very good boy. And very happy. Has a lot of toys and just enjoying his life. He is living his best life”

7 weeks: “He is a very sweet boy. He is 100% settled”

Eliza, now Chloe

2 days: “She’s doing really well and settled in nicely. We’ve renamed her Chloe. She’s fine with the litter tray, eating and getting on well with our mature cat.”

1.5 weeks: “All going well”
1 month: no response

Elsie, now Miso

2 days: “We’re so happy to have her! She’s settling in well from what we’re observing. She peed out of the litter tray twice when she first got here but she’s since peed and pooped in the litter tray. She’s eating and drinking too and gets excited for food! We’ve renamed her to Miso”

1.5 weeks: “Miso is doing great! She’s been doing well out of the safe room and hasn’t been toileting out of the litter tray since the first day. She’s super playful and loves her toys and is eating well”

5 weeks: “Miso is doing really well and growing up so quickly”

Paul

1 day: Paul is doing so well, he is eating fine 3x a day. Loves his treats, especially lamb and salmon. He is building more and more confidence everyday. Still a little easily scared at times but as a majority he is happy and relaxed. He has been exploring the apartment and seems to be confidently curious!

1 week: Paul is going great, he is coming out of a his shell slowly but everyday getting more comfortable. Very curious still but definitely very food driven. He slowed down a bit after his vaccination yesterday and is coming back to himself today but was definitely lethargic and not really himself.

1 month: Paul has definitely explored every nook and cranny. He is doing amazing! His affectionate side has definitely come out now and loves cuddling up on the couch with the owners now.

Rosina

1 day: Rosina has a good appetite and has even tried stealing a hamburger from the owner and gone to the litterbox twice. She has warmed up to the owner and is no longer wary of her. The resident cat did hiss at the sight of Rosina and her smell but did not puff up so it's safely assumed to be warning hisses. For now, Rosina and the resident cat will be separated for a week and let them get used to each other's scents around the house.

 

1 week: Their resident cat no longer hisses at Rosina so that's great. Unfortunately Rosina is a bit of a messy eater and got some acne on her chin from clogged pores because she keeps getting her chin area dirty. The owner can see it's red and did some general cleaning and ordered some wipes. They've also made the switch to shallower plates for her food and hopefully Rosina's skin will clear itself.

 1 month: Rosina had her final vaccination recently and the owners will get to registration soon. Their resident cat Tabitha still will give her warning smacks but have noticed that she will not go out of her way to antagonize Rosina so that is a good sign. Rosina is comfortable in the whole house now and will sleep in most places. She's a very good eater. The owners think she might outgrow Tabitha in the future.

Teddy's eyes

 After weeks of various treatments which he suffered with great patience and purrs, Teddy has finally had his ingrowing eyelash problem operated on and solved (we hope). He came back from surgery this afternoon quite wobbly and with a plastic cone. But Gigi was there to look after him.

Tango wasn't leaping about. Her right front leg still hurts. Or maybe she is missing Fluff.

Sheridan brought in Savannah and her kitten. A vollie sent her bloke in to adopt the kitten. Sheridan trimmed his nails and had a really good, farewell cuddle.

Savannah didn't seem too upset to loose that big boy.

Polly enjoyed her chicken but still doesn't want to be brushed.

The stand alone in Incoming has been repopulated with kittens and mums. This lot came from a fosterer. And also had a poo fest in the carrier during the trip.

There is a mother cat who is very friendly and her 7 kittens. And the mother's now grown up offspring, and her single, medium haired kitten. The daughter mother is wary of people, as is her kitten. But the other kittens didn't mind having their poo'y feet cleaned. No names so far. Granny A and the little A's, Daughter B and the B-son?

PS: Either Elsie or Eliza was posted on the website and adopted today. She lasted 10minutes.

New locks

 A man arrived this afternoon with new locks and keys for our Couzins bins. The locks have been faulty for a while. It is nice to have new ones with nice new keys. (My old key also opens the new locks). 

But it wasn't nice to realise this morning that there were 30 bags of rubbish on the balcony. I didn't check until after the Willoughby council truck had been past. And our Willoughby bins were in the garage: one completely full and the other completely empty. 

So we will have to be vigilant to get ahead of the maggots.

In the meantime, a kitten was supposed to come today but didn't. Ginger Rogers and crew are getting into the swing of regular feeds. They have been trained to bellow by Vader who is clear eyed and longing for someone to love. 

There is a new family of kittens in incoming. One has an enlarged eye and is on meds. 

In Boarding there is a kitten called Sunny who had an adventure late this afternoon. His condo door was open. He came when called, a trifle reluctantly and with a scrape under his chin that I don't think was there earlier. But I don't regularly look under kittens chins so perhaps it was.

Lola has found a new possy. And she did a classic face plant.

Elsie and Eliza have been desexed. They seem thrilled and won't be long with us once their collars are off. Somebody rang today wanting three kittens!

And Whitney is all alone in her condo. Her kittens are together as a threesome but only one is available. . . . at the moment.

A good licking

 When I arrived, a little late due to visiting relatives, Big Kahuna was sitting in his high rise without his cone. Tim says that he has a couple of times a week under strict supervision to go without his cone for a while so that he can clean himself up. I undertook to keep a strict eye on him and to stop him scratching himself and he gave himself a really good licking. He was much more settled during the afternoon after his efforts.

Victoria visited. She used to be a hands-on vollie. Nowdays she follows up on the adopters of our cats at 1 day, 1 week and 1 month (at the least) to make sure they/the cat has the best chance to settle in
to a new relationship. We had a lovely tour of the availables to reacquaint her with them.

Soon to be on the list, according to Irene, are the Palace kittens whom Naomi fostered.
