Sheridan to the rescue

 Sheridan is a devoted fosterer and deliverer of cats to vets. Today she wrangled Eli into a carry cage so he could go to the vet to have all his teeth removed. Perhaps he knew why he was being put into a carry cage. Perhaps he just doesn't trust people very well. After this vet visit, that mistrust will be fully justified! (But he will love the "soft food only" period).

Bindi is in Griffin's stand alone. She is a sweet cat who probably won't last long.

Griffin was going to be returned today because "he doesn't like being picked up". He was adopted last Wednesday and Sue did tell them that it might take a month of two for him to settle into a new environment. They didn't arrive. Perhaps they reread the adoption folder!

Raya and Ashley have gone to Goulburn to live with Rosanna and a couple of stratchy poles from the lobby.

Sunny and Hilda finished their ringworm meds and were promptly adopted by the folk who live in Mayfield somewhere in western NSW. They came on the weekend.

Cordelia was adopted over the weekend so her stand alone was empty for the morning. Then Mochi and Cupcake were delivered by their fostermum to go into that stand alone. We had already had calls about adopting Mochi!

Cordelia's kittens have been desexed and will be ready to adopt soonish. An older woman came in this afternoon for a kitten and eventually settled on one of them but couldn't decide which one. But they are not available yet. I showed her how to check out Adoption page on our website.

Angelica was off her food today. Which reminded me of her story. It seems a woman picked her up from a hoarder's house and decided to take her home, by car, to Queensland. On the way she let the kitten out of the car to do a wee and thought "this is not a good idea". Somehow she got onto us and dropped off Angelica. The kitten wouldn't touch Mother and Baby cat soft food initially. She would only eat crunchies. Today she wouldn't touch M& BC of any texture but happily ate any other brand of food I gave her.

He got adopted this afternoon! He gave the perfect demonstration of how food driven he is: I put a few crunchies in a cat carrier and he climbed straight in!

Quite a few other cats were adopted over the weekend including Mr Bigglesworth and Aimee. I moved Emma (one eyed Emma) into Aimee's condo. And Zorro moved into the condo above Mr B's because Sunny and Hilda have been moved to Isolation because of the ringworm spot on Sunny's ear. We are being especially careful to not cross contaminate cats. Which means: no cuddles after the cleaning work is done.

 We got cats from Collaroy Vets: Bella and Pippin are older cats, (12 and 10 yo rspvy). They are not necessarily bonded.

We have an enormous ragdoll boarder. He is in the Palace and makes it look small.

A new bin

Tim is back and took Sunny & Hilda and Julie to the vet. 

Sunny does have ringworm. Hilda doesn't. Being a white cat is not fair. Not only are you more likely to be deaf and you can easily get skin cancer from sunbaking in true cat form but, it seems, you are more susceptible to fungus infection. The potential adopters from Mudgee have been put off. S & H have moved to Isolation.

Julie may have a kidney issue. Blood was taken for testing. She was not happy.

Willoughby Council delivered a new rubbish bin. So I brought it upstairs and filled it up. there were 3 bags left on the balcony. Together with maggots! In winter!! I realised that the bin didn't have our unit number on it, so I added sticky labels with 19 written in whiteboard marker (which doesn't dissolve in water/rain I guess.) And took it down to the basement. 

 Then Irene rang to say that it needs to be on the sidewalk so that the council can add their label. So I schlepped it out to the roadside as the council said they would do it within 2 days. It is full so nobody else can add any rubbish.

Princess and Sylvie are available for adoption in Welfare. An interested woman will come tomorrow to make a hard choice.

We put Ishi and Apricot in the play place for a run around. It didn't stop their madness at dinnertime.

An interesting day

 Firstly, the balcony was piled high with rubbish bags.

Secondly, Rascal let himself out of his condo after breakfast. I warned all the vollies to be extra quiet and efficient today and to keep an eye out for him. Nobody saw him until all the work was done and Romeo went on his escorted walk without his cone on. (Just to make sure that he doesn't scratch himself or eat food that he shouldn't). He often talks as he walks. His escort noticed some faint meows coming from the food selves. Sure enough. There was Rascal. It was easy enough to move boxes of food out of the way, insert his carrier into which he walked without any complaints. The carrier doesn't have a door so manouvering a sheet of cardboard over the door way was tricky. But I managed it and Rascal was put back into his condo. Doesn't really look glad to be home.

Joan did the paperwork to adopt Storm. She lusted after him when he was available around Easter but was pipped at the post, so to speak. So when he was returned last week, she cleared a space for him at her home.

He already has a place in her heart as you can see by the photo. Mickey's nose may be put out of joint just when he is seeking her company and cuddles.

And the folk who said they might be interested in Hilda and Sunny got in touch to say that they are ready and can come from the other side of the mountains to pick them up this weekend. Then a suspicious lesion was noticed on Sunny's ear. She may be taken to the vet. There is a sign on their condo.

 Mano (who is a female cat!!) was moved to Welfare after being vaccinated and deflea'd. She is a sweetie and should go quickly: perhaps to be the 41st cat adopted in May.

The laundry shelves were restocked. Thanks to washers.

And the verandah was down to 3 bags thanks mostly to Helen who took off a car full of bags, again.

The council now knows that we are one rubbish bin down thanks to Irene.

 I offered time in the Top Cat to Darcy after Annabelle and Emily (who are in the condo below his) showed him what fun it can be. He declined to move out of his safe space.

So I moved the Top Cat to Dylan's slot and opened up to Petal and Koa who had a lovely play. Once they had had enough, I put them in and opened Dylan's door and out she came.

I wish I was quicker with my camera. On my way out this afternoon I checked the water bowls. Zoe had wrapped herself up in her blankie. So cute. But by the time I got the camera out of my pocket, she had untangled herself to greet me.

Do you remember Lola who was where Sunny is now several years ago? A friend of mine adopted her and they get on very well because Gina knows that she is number 2 in the house. Gina sent me a photo of Lola who is wearing one of our Elizabethan collars because she has a rash on her tummy that she keeps on licking. (As Gina gave me the fabric that I used to make the collars, I think that it is entirely appropriate that she can have a collar for her/our cat).

More kittens

 Three tiny ones arrived and are in Incoming. No names no pack drill.

In the meantime, Sunny and Alexa are the lucky last ones next to the Big Kahuna. Alexa has just made it to desex weight so will be booked in asap. Her last remaining brother should be adopted sooner rather than later. She will be able to finish her own meals then. They have been moved to Lola's stand alone.

We pulled their enclosure away from the wall. What a lot of litter was under the walls! Now it has all been cleaned out. The hammocks (which the kittens were using as toilets) are in my washing machine. We sterilized it as well as could be and rehung the sheets. Then Irene moved Julie and Bassuria in. She did one cat at a time. Encouraged them into boxes and used the cardboard shields to keep them in the box while she gently carried them through a passageway formed of sheet covered Top Cat and similars.

  Don't know why we worried. They behaved perfectly. I think Biggie and Mia will like their new neighbours.

2 days: “He is such a sweetheart”. He is currently lying with his owner. “He is very affectionate, licks my face, comes for a cuddle, but also very playful, straight from the first day on. He eats well, wet and dry food, and uses the litter tray.” They will be keeping his name.

1 day: He is doing so well and is so cute! The owner is obsessed with him. When they first let Sunny out in the room, he explored and hid under the bed for a few minutes before coming out and running around playing with his new toys. He is using the litter tray well and is drinking water throughout the day. He eats all of his wet food and especially loves the kibble. Sunny is super cuddly and loves to nap on the owner while purring heaps.

1 week: Sunny came back to SAFE for his kitten vaccination. He is doing so well! Playing lots and sleeping lots.

1 month: He's probably twice as big now compared to when he first came home!

2.5 weeks: “She’s really happy”. She has gotten “used to the house very easily and got along very well with his brothers there.”

2 days: “Spots is lovely” and is settling in well. “He is so cute”. He uses his scratching pole, is eating well, uses his litter box, and sleeps in his basket next to his owner’s bed. He gets played with 3-4 times a day and likes to chase his toys. “He seems really happy” and is always purring on his owner’s lap. He is not concerned when meeting new people and is starting to show his personality. 

 1 week: no response, only sent photos1 month: He is a cheeky boy sometimes but is also affectionate. “Loves a snuggle on the couch”

 

New locks

 A man arrived this afternoon with new locks and keys for our Couzins bins. The locks have been faulty for a while. It is nice to have new ones with nice new keys. (My old key also opens the new locks). 

But it wasn't nice to realise this morning that there were 30 bags of rubbish on the balcony. I didn't check until after the Willoughby council truck had been past. And our Willoughby bins were in the garage: one completely full and the other completely empty. 

So we will have to be vigilant to get ahead of the maggots.

In the meantime, a kitten was supposed to come today but didn't. Ginger Rogers and crew are getting into the swing of regular feeds. They have been trained to bellow by Vader who is clear eyed and longing for someone to love. 

There is a new family of kittens in incoming. One has an enlarged eye and is on meds. 

In Boarding there is a kitten called Sunny who had an adventure late this afternoon. His condo door was open. He came when called, a trifle reluctantly and with a scrape under his chin that I don't think was there earlier. But I don't regularly look under kittens chins so perhaps it was.

Lola has found a new possy. And she did a classic face plant.

Elsie and Eliza have been desexed. They seem thrilled and won't be long with us once their collars are off. Somebody rang today wanting three kittens!

And Whitney is all alone in her condo. Her kittens are together as a threesome but only one is available. . . . at the moment.

I done it

 I stole what was left of the bar of soap from the lady's loo downstairs. When I arrived the washer-upper was struggling with half a sink full of bubbles and no water. My solution is to "wash your hands" with a bar of soap in the bubbles. They all burst and wash down the sink quite quickly. I promise I will buy another bar of soap for the downstairs Ladies. (We stashed what is left of the bar of soap with the syringe bodies behind the bleach spray bottle).

I got my Tabbys and Tibbys confused.

Tibby is the quieter upstairs one. She rather likes a scrunch on the back of her neck and to play in a large plastic bag.

Libby has come out of her carrier. She is around 14 years old. Don't know her history except that she was surrendered. She seems very sweet. And likes chicken. She is above Ginger (George) who loves to stroll around the cattery in the afternoon, demanding attention, stealing dropped crunchies from under Opie's stand alone and generally being charming.

Meggsie has been to the vet to have a lump cut from his neck. . .. and several teeth removed. It has made him rotate by 90 degrees. And look! a clean blankie!

There is another friendly surrender in Incoming. She came from the home of a lady who died and the family wasn't around to take care of the cat promptly. So she was taken by a neighbour to be bait for his dog!!! Luckily she was rescued. When she, Chikka came to us she had a "beware of the cat" sign. But this afternoon she was as sweet as she could be. (Chicken magic!)

And then there is Sunny who has boarded with us before. She never likes the settling in process and grumbles for a few days. This time she, if she only knew it, has something to grumble about. Her people have gone home.. . overseas. She is to follow them in a fortnight. . . . on an airplane. I imagine that the passengers on that plane will worry about a strange noise coming from the pressurized cargo hold/starboard engine.

Still raining

 The rain caused traffic havoc that delayed two vollies and stopped another vollie's car from starting. It also kept away the person who was going to come to choose an older cat. But the bloke who adopted Max dropped by with his paperwork (rather damp. . . both him and the paperwork). He said that he and Max were getting on very well. Max was leaning against his leg and purring so he put his hand down to give Max a pat on the head and chomp. He ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics. He didn't see any cats that he fancied today. . .. . once bitten, etc.

But Max has gone to Katie's for a break. Juliet has moved into the Palace to await her Romeo. She may be moved to Jackie's condo if we can persuade a nice person to foster her for a while to see if she gets better in a home. She cries a lot in the cattery. And there is no room in Boarding for Juliette. It is fully booked for the school holidays. Luigi and Bambi are coming in. And Daphne (now known as Tilly) is in residence. She seemed very pleased to see us.

Ginger was in the play place when I arrived. He was very chatty. Just like he is in his condo. His ringworm treatment is finished and he has been declared cured.

We put a couple of the boarders in for a play, not together. Tip loved it. (He has a white tip on his tail). Mayka and Daphne/Tilly were not thrilled.

At the end of the day we wheeled in the Coffee shop kittens and they settled right in. By tomorrow morning they will be all played out.

The best thing to happen was that Vicki scrubbed the snot off the inside of Star's stand alone. You can now see the kittens without opening the door (which risks an escapee kitten, usually the ginger.)
