Adoption tails: Gorgeous greys

 Ganda: adopted 15/9/21
1 day: "He is doing well. He is very affectionate although a bit nervy and hides if there is a noise or a sudden movement. He gave us a fright today by hiding inside the chimney -- took us several hours to find him! All good now sitting at my feet having his tummy rubbed. We have changed his name to Ollie.
1 week: "He is doing well, getting used to us, he is still a bit nervy and runs off to hide sometimes but doesn’t stay hidden too long. Sleeps on our bed. He has had a problem with one of his eyes -- it was weeping from when we first bought him home. We took him to the vet a week ago, she found that he had ulcers in both eyes. We have been using ointment on them, there has been some improvement but not completely better yet." His favourite spot is on a window seat.
1 month: Ollie's eyes are a lot better. He is doing well, settling in and getting a lot calmer. He is spending more time hanging around his new guardians.

Meow Meow, 26/8/21
3 days: Adopter says "Meow meow is doing really well. We were prepared for her to be timid and scared, but within 15 mins of her arrival she threw herself at my son Jack and had big cuddles. She loves Jack especially. She has to be approached slowly, but loves being stroked and scratched. She is exploring the house and has found some good spots to sit in. We have got into her rhythm now and understand when she wants to be quiet, wants to eat and when she wants to play. She is very cuddly in the evening”
1 week: Meow Meow is settling in really well. She goes outside to explore the garden and really enjoys it. She loves to sit and cuddle especially when her new Mum sits on the sofa watching TV. She is not loving her T/D dry food.
1 month: "Her name has been changed to Dusty and she is doing well. She is such a lovely, cuddly girl. She is much more relaxed now. She has really settled into her new environment. She especially enjoys being outdoors  exploring the garden and sleeping in the sun. So much so that her new owners wonder if she was previously only kept indoors. She has got better at climbing in the past week and made it up to a height of about 1.5 metres in the Jacaranda tree. She is eating well and her fur looks good. Her owner really appreciates the care SAFE gives their cats and the follow up to adoptees."

 Meow Meow was adopted on Thursday by the woman who came on Wednesday. She will have a home with a devoted mother and 20year old son, a fenced yard and lots of love. Her condo has been cleaned and Ganda has moved in. He is shocked at being with us and is sulking in his litter tray but at the same time inviting caresses. Plus he is grey also!

As is Cathy, across the aisle from him. She has come out of her shell since being moved from Incoming. She loved being brushed and let me put her on my lap to trim her nails.

Next door to her is Archie who, like Ganda is suffering separation anguish. He liked his neck scratch after I took off his collar with its annoying bell. But he wasn't tempted by any chicken. . . . perhaps next week.

There were fun and games this morning when Tabitha and Jetta were moved out of Incoming. And bandaging.

Which leaves only Fawny and Chi in Incoming. Fawny is a boy. He has an ulcer on his cornea which is why he squints so tightly. He has pills and ointment.

And Chi who, when she came in, was taken next door for Dr Kim's opinion. Dr Kim fell in love/lust immediately and wants her for a farm cat. Don't know if her skin condition is the same as Oreo's.

She did enjoy her share of chicken but Oreo wasn't interested and left it all for Lucky.

And, to get to the blog title, at last. A mum and her two teenaged daughters came to meet Coco and Mason with a view to foster them while they are in lockdown and not able to travel to Hungary to spend time with family there. There is a teenaged boy at home too. And a dad who is reluctant to have a cat in the house. I don't think he has a chance against 3 kids, a keen wife plus all the love that Coco and Mason will give. We hope they will be back on Sunday to pick them up having prepared the house and the hubby.

A Fall from Grace

 When I got to Grace's condo on this morning's food delivery, it was a mess. She had pulled up the grass from its pot and then tipped over the pot so that there was dirt everywhere. I may have said something that startled her because as she jumped up to her upper box she missed her footing and fell out of her condo. To the floor. And then scurried, screaming "I AM SCARED" which got the attention of every cat in the cattery. We proceeded to have a merry dance with me trying to direct her back to her condo and her trying to hide under any low furniture. Luckily she didn't take the high way. 

Eventually she hid under the new merchandise shelves. I cornered her with the duvet cover from Mini's stand alone, put her breakfast in a carry cage that was draped with the same duvet cover. With the help of a prod or two with a bit of stick, she allowed herself to be guided into the carry cage. And got carried back to her condo. Pretty exciting for before breakfast.

We have three new cats in Boarding: Sasha, Shadow and Ellie. They are not boarders with us. They have been surrendered to us. They are really friendly with people. Ellie is a long/ish haired cat who has been shaved. It will be interesting to see how long her hair grows. Her whiskers are enormous.

I tried putting Sasha into the play place with her but got the distinct impression that it was not a good idea. Katie confirmed that although they came from the same household they are not friends with each other. They just love people.

Magnus has a bare tip of tail. A bit has been amputated. There is no bandage. Let's hope this fixes his problem. He is such a loving cat.

As Dolly got adopted on Tuesday, the mother and daughter who fell in love with her on Sunday came to meet Petal. They promptly fell in love with her and will be back when she has been desexed. 

And another lady came in at 3:30pm to adopt Meow Meow. But she didn't do it today. She decided to go home and set up everything, buy lots of food, etc, etc, and come back tomorrow at 1pm to adopt her. (Adoption hours have been limited to from 1pm to 3:30pm to limit our volunteers' exposure to members of the public. We are not admitting people who come from hotspot LGA's)

Charlie is a darling

I started off the day with 52 cats and finished it with 55! This is going the wrong way. Terry brought in a tabby girl. The cat that he was supposed to bring in made a mad dash for freedom over the roof and Terry could tell that if he tried to help catch that cat he would be torn to shreads. So another cat was snaffled instead. She is a pretty tabby and we called her Malabar because she was caught on Malabar Street. She is quite friendly, on that street, but a bit shocked in a condo.

Then Blacky was brought in by a woman who has to find homes for her deceased mother's cats. He is a sweet 7 and a half year old.

And finally a woman who has surrendered several cats to us that we have found homes for, had to give us her very own sweet Charlie who is only a year and a half old and who loves tummy rubs.

Blacky and Charlie have been moved straight into the Welfare area because we know that they have been vaccinated, desexed, flea'd, etc so they don't have to stay in Incoming for 10days. But in Incoming we have Red, who arrived last night after being desexed. He is not in a good mood. He got put into Quarantine because there wasn't another available condo but there is nothing wrong with him.

Moe, Tip and Sock are in the plastic condo of Incoming. I took a couple of blurry photos of them sitting on the shelf looking at me and then managed to drop my camera. I swore and when I looked up they all had horrified expressions. . . was it the noise or the language?

New in Welfare are Gingey who came from the same group as Blacky.

And there is Meow Meow. Don't know where this grey cat came from. But she/he comes with a special diet and is only 3 years old.

And there is Dolly in Incoming who is another darling, just like Charlie.

I did manage to rearrange the furniture a bit. Just in case we need to open the front doors and to give the stand alone cages a bit more separation just in case there are sneezes.
