A variety of worms

Three of Annabelle's male progeny went to be desexed today. One of them passed a worm while at the vet's! So everybody got a worming pill when they got home. The three boys have gone into Jacob's condo because he has been moved to Lola's stand alone.

Jacob

He wasn't very happy there. But we really needed his double condo. And perhaps some of the ragdoll magic will rub off this weekend and he will get adopted. He almost did this afternoon when a family took ages to decide not to get Chandler or his brother.. . . or Jacob. Perhaps they will be back tomorrow.

So Didley, Jaffa and Beanie were put into the condo next to Chelsea. All her kittens have been adopted.

And she has decided that people are OK after all.

Chelsea

Billy came back from his foster home and has taken a week or so to settle back into the institutional routine. He is less upset than he used to be but still not up to pats.

Billy

The big news is that Big Kahuna was adopted. Lucky them. And his enclosure was thoroughly cleaned (thank you Sharon) so that Tilly's three big kittens (her own) could move in there. . . . and get adopted asap.

Tommy, Tallulah, Tiffany

The sad news of the day (apart from the number of poo bags on the verandah) is that GG and Teddy have been moved to Isolation. His worm has been confirmed by the vets as ringworm.

Kitten chaos

The verandah was full of bags again today. And still half full this afternoon. Take a bag home if you can, please.

Annabelle and family have moved into the Play Place.

Annabell's lot in Incoming

Next time we get one built we must challenge the men's shed to come up with a design for feeding multiple kittens and cats there. Perhaps a conveyor belt with two openings: one for food dishes and one for empty dishes. And a way of letting the cats get access to the food but to move them away after eating. It might be a design challenge. Could we have a competition? Would AI help?

I noticed that I have worn a hole in the knee of my kneeling-on leg by feeding/fending them.

Because they have moved out of Incoming, Mateo and his siblings have moved into the stand alone in Incoming. Joy took photos. And the vollies made up names for them and for Annabelle's lot. I will add the names on Friday because them may well have changed by then. We had some Chinese names suggested by vollies.

Mateo *easy to tell because of his swollen left eye

LeLe (Happiness in Chinese)

Earl Grey (except might be a girl)

QuiQui (fluffy ball in Chinese)

Pawline

Big Kahuna is ready to be adopted. And his paperwork is imminent.

And Newt went today to a young man who was delighted to have his very own kitten. His mum was pleased for him too.

And Alexis has both a "Not ready for Adoption" and "already has a home" sign on her crate.

Adoption Tails: Mom cats, Joni, Josie and Betty

 Betty

1 week: “Betty is doing beautifully well.” She ate, drank, and used the litter box within the first 24 hours. “She has been very comfy in her safe room but has begun gradually exploring the rest of the house, always returning at pace to her safe room if she gets startled or feels uneasy. She is being treated like a princess. At this stage we aren’t changing her name, just adding 1000 variations to how you say it, or what it’s added to”
1 month: “Betty is settling in beautifully. She is playing happily, eating well, cuddling us on the couch and sleeping close at night.”

6.5 weeks: “We are just so in love with our beautiful Betty”

Joni

3 days: “She is doing well”. She has eaten, drunk and used the litter tray. They have renamed her. They have a camera set up in her safe room. She doesn’t like the carrier at all so they took it away and she has been hiding under the bed. She comes out to explore when they are not in the room.

1.5 weeks: She is completely fine in her safe room. They’ve opened her safe room door to see if she would like to explore the living room. She started exploring when her owners were sleeping or were out. “We are glad she is settling well”

5 weeks: “She is doing pretty well”. She often comes out from underneath the bed and plays with their resident cat while her owners are sleeping.

Josie

3 days: She hasn’t used the litter tray or eaten yet. She has been moving around in different hiding spots but still appears very scared. They will be keeping her name.

1.5 weeks: She is still very scared but is eating lots and toileting every day. Her owner can hear her coming out at night when it’s dark.

5 weeks:
“Josie is doing well. Very playful at night when it’s dark and has her favourite bed up high in the kitchen. Here she can keep her eyes on me. Still not letting me pick her up but she loves being stroked in her bed.”

Adoption Tails: Lilith and Hecate

 Lilith

Lilith was adopted by Maggie's owner (also a volunteer)

Lilith - now Nelly / Nellie (spelling seems to change over the course of the follow-ups)

3 days: “I am renaming her Nelly. She is a sheer delight. She has her safe room and is happy there but does like coming out whilst Maggie is asleep in her room.” Nelly is not eating or drinking and has not been interested in the different wet foods being offered to her. “Maggie did hiss at her yesterday when Nelly bolted out of the room but no hissing today even though Maggie sniffs under Nelly’s door. She loves having a sleep on my bed next to  me in the afternoon. I adore them both. I’ve been playing calming music all day which I think has helped both cats.”

4 days: Nelly is still not eating but has started drinking. “She doesn’t seem stressed. She was out all morning sleeping in the sun inside whilst Maggie has her usual sleep under the bed with my dressing gown! Her fur is standing up like she isn’t well but she seems quite happy.”

1 week: Nelly is still not eating anything so she was going to go to the local vet. 5 minutes after calling the vet, her owner tried a different food in a different place outside her room and she’s gobbling it down. “She is apart from Maggie and I keep them separate but I spend a lot of time cuddling and playing with her. I think she has turned the corner. Unfortunately Maggie just came out and hissed at her so they are both separate now. Maggie loves her room. I don’t shut the door so she can come and go. I am so relieved. Nelly is so skinny." Maggie isn’t thrilled with Nelly.

1.5 weeks: “Nelly is continuously eating now and tonight the two kissed which was lovely. Then Maggie hissed gently. They are going to be fine.”

Lilith and Hecate at Safe

3.5 weeks: “Maggie and Nelly getting on really well  and playing and sleeping together which is great but Nelly often doesn’t use her litter. She just weed in the bath. She did a poo in the bath 2 weeks ago but I thought she was just settling in. Maggie loves having Nelly to play with so I am thrilled. Both cats are really getting on well. They were sleeping near each other this afternoon and Maggie was washing Nelly. Nelly had diarrhoea after her vaccination on Monday in the car so she may be getting over that. She loves her soft balls and races around with those.” Her owner is still dealing with inappropriate toileting which is believed to be from Nelly. “They are inseparable now. Both sitting with me in my living room which Maggie never used to do as she doesn’t like the sound of the TV. So now I have a new litter tray in the study and 2 trays in the laundry. Nelly went outside in the garden for half an hour and loved it. She came back when I called her. Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.” Her owner doesn’t let Nelly go far outside and knows where she is. She will also get tick prevention for Nelly.

7 weeks: “They are using the 4 boxes. We’ve had a few accidents but I think it was Maggie. They adore each other. Nellie is very active and Maggie is very patient with her. They love playing hide and seek and both sleep on my bed but not all the time. Maggie spends less time in her safe room but still sleeps on top of the bed there. They go out in the garden but Maggie prefers being inside. Nellie is like a naughty toddler. She is up to mischief all the time but very sweet and affectionate. It has turned out beautifully for us all.” Her owner needs to give Maggie tick prevention, especially as Maggie goes outside. However, she still can’t pick Maggie up to do these treatments so her daughter (who’s a vet) is going to give her a sedative in her food so they can vaccinate her and do her other treatments. “She can still be anxious. She is such a beautiful soul. I just want a good life for her.”

3 months: It took 30 minutes for the owner’s daughter to vaccinate Maggie, and they were unable to do her other treatments. “The girls are doing well and adore each other. Maggie is teaching Nellie manners. Very cute.”

Hecate

1 day: She's settling really well, sleeping with the owners since day 1. Hecate's eating and playing lots. Not having any trouble transitioning to an automatic litter box either! She is a very calm cat, as if she's lived here before.

1 week: She is doing so well. Happy and settled.

1 month
: The owners are affectionately calling Ms Kiki Hecate "Kiki" at home. She has settled in wonderfully and is in great hands. They are currently in the process of moving and will register her to the council once that is done. They've also added an artwork of "Kiki Hecate" next to Teddy, their previous cat who passed away just a week before they adopted Kiki. "I'm sure my Teddy whispered to Kiki to keep meowing when we were at SAFE and that's how we ended up choosing her".

All day Friday

I worked all day instead of just in the afternoon because. . . . Christmas holiday time. The Friday crew is lovely at the beginning of their shift as well as at the end. And Geoff is caught up with relatives in Victoria as well as doing fireman's work there. Irene swept in early to take PC, Aslan and Teddy to the vet for checkups.

PC may have a foster carer. . . fingers crossed.

Teddy may have a ringworm. . . . fingers crossed that is wrong. Cultures have been taken.

Aslan has had tests done to try to figure out why he is so thirsty.

And she was worried about some kittens coming in and no empty condos. So I reshuffled some and put up an small stand alone on top of Kitty's stand alone. Alexis loves it up there. She can be nose to nose with everybody who comes through the door. She will be desexed asap and this may be our new "Get It Out Of Here" stand alone.

GIOoH stand alone
There is a ragdoll, due to come into where Alexis was, who has had all the paperwork done so most of us won't get to meet her. I still reckon we should auction off ragdolls to the highest bidder!

I weighted Tilly's big kittens (her own kittens) and two of them are big enough to be sexed. Irene will book them in next week because their ringworm treatment is almost over. As is Dylan's.

And Big Kahuna might appear on the "available" page soon. Irene wants expressions of interest so that he goes to the best possible home.

Big Kahuna
Dusky seems to have gone to a really good home.  She has been scratching relentlessly on the perspex so she will be glad to have more room.

Tuesday did not move the poo bags

Even though I was very early to the cattery, Willoughby council was earlier. And none of our Willoughby bins had been put out. Neither had any bags been put into other peoples bins. So the verandah was FULL of bags of poo. I moved the newer bags to behind the door so that the oldest, most maggoty bags would be taken away first. And the Heavenly Helen took her car boot full of old bags home with her. But there are still bags behind the door to be disposed of.

a proliferation of poo bags

Otherwise, we had a good day. The cleaning crew was small but mighty!

Julie and Bassuria have settled down in their new digs.

Bassuria at ground level

Julie on the shelf with tongue hanging out

Dusky has a "I am adopted" sign saying that she will be picked up on Jan 3. Today she wanted OUT and scratched the perspex unrelentingly. So I decided she needed time in the Top Cat. She was not impressed.

Dusky

Hobson had a turn and loved it. Of course.

One of the kittens in the large stand alone in Incoming wasn't eating this morning. But we gave her some medicine and some milk and she got the idea. By the end of the day she was doing better.

Incoming kitten mayhem

I made some new hammocks and installed 3 layers of them which might have done the trick.

Joy took some lovely photos which I will use later . . . after the poo bag situation has been taken care of.
