Busy afternoon

 The morning was well controlled. Just the right number of vollies. No visitors. 

A woman rang to ask about Peanut. Lovely cat, says I. I will visit, says she. She arrived and met Princess Peanut who was gracious at first but soon got sick of it, as usual. The woman had lots to tell me about her situation and needs. I almost got her to take away the covered litter box that obstructs the feeding corner.  She will return. 

Then just as I was thinking about lunch there was a phone call about Honey. Was he available? Yes! They came. In fact, they had driven from Maitland to adopt a ginger cat for her mother from another establishment this morning. Just as they got off the freeway the other place rang them to say the cat they wanted had just been adopted. Sensibly, she searched on her phone and found Honey. Rang and they came. And they liked him. He liked them. . . .  but he is like that.

Just as they were sitting down to adopt him, David arrived so I handed over the paperwork to him so I could attend to the mother and daughter who had come in 2 minutes before looking for a cat to keep company with their adult female. I just had time to say "a boy would be better than a girl" and told them how to tell who was available. They wandered around until they got to Jimmy whom I had moved to Lola's stand alone (the small one) but half an hour before. The daughter fell in love. And Jimmy loves anybody who loves him. His mum was adopted over the weekend so he hasn't forgotten how to live with an older female cat. . . . . . match made in heaven. David had another adoption to do.

Then the bloke who loves Vulcan arrived with his lady friend who loves Velvet. By this time Irene had arrived and she took over doing that adoption. The V's are still with us because Velvet was only desexed on Tuesday and we need to monitor her incision for a few days more. Plus she can't keep a collar on with her voracious brothers around.

Rosie's kittens still are having the occasional vomit. This morning I was confused when I found yellow water in their bowl. Perhaps they have some medication in it. Tim suggested that they had wee'd into it.

 Ravyn demands a walk daily. She now has a second box because I bought a pair of navy ankle boots which came in a very stylish box which I just had to give to her. The person who wants a cat that she can take for walks came over the weekend. But as she was contemplating walking that cat in the dog park, we didn't advise her to take Ravyn. Ravyn would have attacked the dogs.

I beat the bin pick up

 I was able to get all the bags on the balcony into other folk's bins this morning. So there was space in the Cousins bins in the afternoon. I got rid of a pile of bedding that hasn't been used in the past 4 years from the shelves out back. 

For the rest of the day the vollies did a splendid job and all finished early.

The play place was thoroughly dehaired because the glam kitten litter have all been adopted. Likewise Velvet and Vovo (wonder if it was the family who came on Friday), Kokora whose condo was occupied by Lewis whose adoption was formalised today. He will be picked up tomorrow.

A man came looking for an older cat to share his rather small appartment (and his girlfriend). He took ages with lots of connections via the phone with the girlfriend to finally decide to take Dixie. He fancied Frankie, Griffin, LeClerc, Aslan, Bissie, Mickey and Jellybean too. No wonder it took so long.

 In the meantime a boyfriend came in to do the paperwork for Vanilla who will be picked up tomorrow from the foster home.

 A strange variety came in today. 

A mother and her son looking for a cat who would go well with their dog and their rabbit. I referred them to our web page to see if any of those in foster homes have got to know a dog.

A couple and their hyperactive son who wanted to meet Vovo and Velvet. Vovo loved the mother (and vice versa). The son just wanted to squeeze the next cat. The father tried to control the son.

A staff member from next door came to see if we had a suitable cat for her friend who already has a boy cat. I thought perhaps Dixie might be good. She is used to living with another cat and might like to be boss for a change.

She might become a volunteer at Safe, she was so impressed.

Griffin was visited by the woman who lusts after China and India. They are still on sneeze watch so are not yet available. So she might end up with Griffitn.

Ta, da. . . we had a litter delivery just in time.

Rory had his eye operation and is in Boarding because he has a hard cone and Incoming condos are too small.

He is against the wall above and to the left of Dawson who can talk to him about being lucky to have one eye. . . . .  He seems to have got chattier recently.

And Romeo is probably ready to be adopted. After I put the flea treatment on him and see if it makes him itchy.

 For school holidays we are remarkably unfull of boarders this week. But a pair of cats who were "adopted from us 2-3 years ago" came in this afternoon. . . . Calli and Lexi. I can't remember them but they may have put on a little weight. And they are not happy, Jan.

Over the weekend all the "desirable" kittens were adopted. We even had another call to adopt Souffle today!

And a man came to meet Valentina. She played "I want to be alone" as usual. So I introduced him to the other available cats who have been with us for a while. He really liked Darcy. He will be back on Friday morning when he has set up his apartment to adopt one, or the other.

And a nice teacher came in with her mother to adopt Astrid. She knew all about her dodgy patella and is fine with it. She will bring Astrid in next Thursday because her vaccination is due and there wasn't anybody around who is trained to give injections.

One of the vollies is doing Animal Heath at Tech and had to give a cat a "physical". Not so easy choosing a suitable cat for that! But we settled on Velvet who tolerated being prodded and handled. Vovo was a bit jealous of the attention that she got. It was definitely a two person examination!

Sue spent the afternoon giving Calli's four kittens a bath. . . separately. And thoroughly scrubbing their condo. They are probably ringworm free now. But don't look very happy about it.

They have names: Jasper (ginger), Lapis (black tabby), Coral (white tabby) and Jade (orange).

A new bin

Tim is back and took Sunny & Hilda and Julie to the vet. 

Sunny does have ringworm. Hilda doesn't. Being a white cat is not fair. Not only are you more likely to be deaf and you can easily get skin cancer from sunbaking in true cat form but, it seems, you are more susceptible to fungus infection. The potential adopters from Mudgee have been put off. S & H have moved to Isolation.

Julie may have a kidney issue. Blood was taken for testing. She was not happy.

Willoughby Council delivered a new rubbish bin. So I brought it upstairs and filled it up. there were 3 bags left on the balcony. Together with maggots! In winter!! I realised that the bin didn't have our unit number on it, so I added sticky labels with 19 written in whiteboard marker (which doesn't dissolve in water/rain I guess.) And took it down to the basement. 

 Then Irene rang to say that it needs to be on the sidewalk so that the council can add their label. So I schlepped it out to the roadside as the council said they would do it within 2 days. It is full so nobody else can add any rubbish.

Princess and Sylvie are available for adoption in Welfare. An interested woman will come tomorrow to make a hard choice.

We put Ishi and Apricot in the play place for a run around. It didn't stop their madness at dinnertime.
