Glad tidings

There was a note to say that Rascal was to be picked up by her adopter this afternoon at 3:30pm. It made my day.

I immediately popped an old, cloth carrier in her condo just in case she decided to try it out and walk in there unassisted.

Didn't happen, of course.

She was too distracted by being loved on by her favourite volunteers.

Then a cat arrived to be boarded. But they had booked her in when the rate was lower so it took Gen ages to figure out the prices and sort it out with them. I got to look after their 3 year old grandson while that was happening. He loved the picker-upperer. And opening all the button doors. And slamming them closed again. Eventually they left.

Then Rascal's owner arrived. I gave Gen the cat carrier to hold after demonstrating how much Rascal loves having her cheeks and flanks scratched by the rake toy. I picked up Rascal. Lifted her claws up from the scratchy pole and popped her into the carrier. To celebrate the successful transfer, I gave the rake and the carrier to the new owner. And carried Rascal in the carrier out to her new owners car!

Then I undressed her enclosure. Now Oreo can see out into the car park.

Oreo says "I ain't looking"
Lani was organizing the cats and Bron's stitches needed to come out. We tried. But the stitches were curly and couldn't be undone. So she asked Collaroy Vets to do it. I just had to drive Bron down there and back. The driving took 40 minutes. The stitches removal took 40 seconds.

On Wednesday we were convinced that Paris would have her kittens overnight. This morning she was still kittenless (or kitten free!) But tonight, as we checked her just before we left, there was some action. When Paris doesn't eat, it is for a good reason.

I may have to drop by tomorrow to find out how many kittens she had.

 Saturday, Sept 12.

I did drop by this morning. Paris had only five kittens!

While I was there I dressed Rascal's enclosure ready for its next occupants. Oreo has lost his view.

And the woman who adopted Minty showed me photos of her at home. They both look very happy. What a coincidence that she visited Mona Vale just at that time.

Terry was busy with adoptions.

as good as New Brooms

Kiwi came back today. According to Irene: he was meowing all night and kept all the housemates awake. He is where Muffin was so can be the first cat that folk see when they come in (if they don't pass by the merch shelves that still look clean and neat!) Kiwi spent the day sleeping.

Kiwi
There was a goodly number of vollies. And more folk came in the afternoon to check us out before volunteering. (And or adopting/fostering a cat). For the first time that I can remember, the dust pans and brushes got washed! As well as the brooms!!

The brooms were sodden so I took them outside to the roof of my car to dry out. Later in the day, Tim couldn't find them when he moved the Rascal to Rayven enclosures to have installed an exhaust column that will suck the bad smells out of the "factory floor". Strange. I hadn't noticed any smell. But I sure can hear the machine humming.

Enzo's "kittens" went for their vet check. They were quite easy to get into carry cages but I don't think they enjoyed their day out from the look of them when they returned. All three hid under the scratchy pole shrouded blanket. Their names are Raven, Rouge and Riley. Enzo has gone to his forever home.

Enzo
Persephone has been declared ring worm free. So is able to be "handled". Which means that she will crawl all over your shoulders given half a chance and suck/chew on your hair.

"Who me!" Percy

 Amelia took some photos.

Here is one of Bubble and Squeak mesmerized by a toy that was donated. It has to be charged by the same plug that charges the phone. I reorganised their enclosure so that they could have more floor space for it to perform in.

The F kittens are very relaxed. Saving their energy for the next time they get adopted.

And we have 7 kittens in one double condo in the Transit Lounge. Who knows if they all had the same mum. They need names!

Just some of the Secret 7

More vollies

A couple of folk (women) came today to check us out as potential volunteer opportunities. One decided, in view of the work involved, that she'd wait until her back got better. The other would have signed on straight away. And we had two new, trained vollies on shift today. I will be able to retire soon.

Cats went to the vet or have come back since Wednesday. The C girls are all back. Only the Elizabethan collars distinguish them from their brothers. All are sweet and friendly.

C girls above and below. Could be Crystal, Caitlin or Carolyn

I almost had a home for Cedric, the almost Siamese-coloured boy today. A young woman came in with her son who is obsessed with a ginger cat of movie/iTunes fame and mum liked Cedric best. But the boy didn't make a choice. He did like other coloured cats. They will be back.

Rascal was taken to the vets. I was the lucky one who managed to get her into a carrier. I might never live that down until another wild one rips my arm off. Nevertheless, she came back with a clean bill of health so should be available for adoption soon.

Rascal
Likewise, Hunter went. And came back just as sweet as when he left.

Hunter
And while upstairs, I photographed Dinesh just to record how much better he is looking. He seems happier as well and while he still begs for food every time he sees me, it is not so mindlessly as it used to be. Soon he will be white below his "knees".

Dinesh

In my last blog post I misnamed a vollie who came in to love on Bonnie and others. She is Amelia and here she is training one of our new vollies today how to win the trust of the shyer cats, like Minke.

I had never seen Minke out of her safe space before let alone being happy to be cuddled.

Piglet's new skill

 is standing on shoulders.

Piglet

Tim's new skill is numbering enclosures.

The numbers start at Lola and Pixie on the wall away from the office closest to the line of AWL condos.

And end at 36 where Salt and Pepper are finally coming out from behind the sheets.

Across the way is Rascal in 37 to Clover in 39. Roxie is in 40 across the gap with Julie and Bassuria beside her in 41. The old AWL condos start with Marcy and Indie in 21 with Cheeto below in 22 and end with Peanut (aka Princess) at the other end of the line in 29.

Upstairs Dinesh is in D3. I assume (didn't look) that Raphaella (on the other side of the door) is in D1, etc. Raven is in D7.

Across the aisle, S1 has a boarder, Olive who moved in today. She didn't take long to settle into a hammock. (Which shows bravery because most cats wouldn't have ever seen a hammock before).

Olive
Gideon is at the end of that row of enclosures in S5. This afternoon he was curled up so tight you couldn't see his ears.

Settling in

Robin visited today. It was grand to see her. And she hopes that now that she is just 5 minutes away, we will see her more often. Australis was thrilled to meet her. Her tail almost touches her ears when she is particularly pleased.

Australis and Robyn's fascinating finger
The crew had the brilliant idea of moving the stand alones to sweep beneath them.

And while stand alones were moving, Bree's was rotated by 90degrees so that she backs up to the end of Chalk and Percy's.

She glowed at the prospect of being able to watch Lola and Pixie. (Or my too smart iPhone changed her colours to what it thought was appropriate!

Bree isn't this tortie!

Rascal is becoming more sociable in her new digs.

Rascal

Even, Oreo next door seems more relaxed.
Oreo
On his other side is Clover, the Ume replacement. She is not a happy cat.

Clover

But Gideon was when we took off his cone so that he could eat and try to walk. (The eating went well for soft food. But the walking is all over the place unless there is a lap to be had.)

How's it going

I photographed every cat at Mona Vale today. You can tell by their faces how they are coping.

Yahtzee adopted

A mother came in to buy her son (grown up and in his own apartment) a cat for his birthday because his previous cat recently died. They were lovely. Irene sold them (on) Zahtzee. I think they will be very happy together. The mother is going to tell all her friends about us.

Yahtzee
This is one of Joy's photos (as you can tell). Her others this week were mostly of our white cats:

Will
We had Will out to run in the Top Cat in Welfare space this afternoon. He loves to chase anything. But I noticed that his claws keep getting caught on whatever he was chasing.  I managed to trim two on his right front paw. Feel free to try any of the others!

Minty
Rascal

The plan is to have Boarding and Better Row emptied out before the boarding season starts at the end of November. What will happen to R & M? Will somebody foster them? I can recommend fostering. Aslan is very easy to live with and his poos are not as sloppy/smelly as they used to be.

Aslan keeps my chair warm

Because Goldie got adopted, Alex (male) was moved into her condo. Which left that enclosure empty. So Roxy and her three kittens moved into it, after I cleaned it. I cleverly positioned hammocks close to the ground so that the kittens wouldn't have to climb. Of course, the first thing they did was to scramble up as high as they could. Their names have been reverted to the first decided upon names: Riley, Rosie and Rachael. As they still don't have microchips only they know who is who.

Roxy Enclosure

The empty stand alone by the door which used to house Licorice has a new black, female cat with a sparser patch of white fur on her chest. She came from a foster home and her name is Ravyn. But I think some folk might assume that Licorice has returned.

An interesting day

Firstly, the balcony was piled high with rubbish bags.

Secondly, Rascal let himself out of his condo after breakfast. I warned all the vollies to be extra quiet and efficient today and to keep an eye out for him. Nobody saw him until all the work was done and Romeo went on his escorted walk without his cone on. (Just to make sure that he doesn't scratch himself or eat food that he shouldn't). He often talks as he walks. His escort noticed some faint meows coming from the food selves. Sure enough. There was Rascal. It was easy enough to move boxes of food out of the way, insert his carrier into which he walked without any complaints. The carrier doesn't have a door so manouvering a sheet of cardboard over the door way was tricky. But I managed it and Rascal was put back into his condo. Doesn't really look glad to be home.

Rascal

Joan did the paperwork to adopt Storm. She lusted after him when he was available around Easter but was pipped at the post, so to speak. So when he was returned last week, she cleared a space for him at her home.

Joan and Storm

He already has a place in her heart as you can see by the photo. Mickey's nose may be put out of joint just when he is seeking her company and cuddles.

And the folk who said they might be interested in Hilda and Sunny got in touch to say that they are ready and can come from the other side of the mountains to pick them up this weekend. Then a suspicious lesion was noticed on Sunny's ear. She may be taken to the vet. There is a sign on their condo.

Mano (who is a female cat!!) was moved to Welfare after being vaccinated and deflea'd. She is a sweetie and should go quickly: perhaps to be the 41st cat adopted in May.
Mano
The laundry shelves were restocked. Thanks to washers.

And the verandah was down to 3 bags thanks mostly to Helen who took off a car full of bags, again.

The council now knows that we are one rubbish bin down thanks to Irene.
