Boarders

 For school holidays we are remarkably unfull of boarders this week. But a pair of cats who were "adopted from us 2-3 years ago" came in this afternoon. . . . Calli and Lexi. I can't remember them but they may have put on a little weight. And they are not happy, Jan.

Over the weekend all the "desirable" kittens were adopted. We even had another call to adopt Souffle today!

And a man came to meet Valentina. She played "I want to be alone" as usual. So I introduced him to the other available cats who have been with us for a while. He really liked Darcy. He will be back on Friday morning when he has set up his apartment to adopt one, or the other.

And a nice teacher came in with her mother to adopt Astrid. She knew all about her dodgy patella and is fine with it. She will bring Astrid in next Thursday because her vaccination is due and there wasn't anybody around who is trained to give injections.

One of the vollies is doing Animal Heath at Tech and had to give a cat a "physical". Not so easy choosing a suitable cat for that! But we settled on Velvet who tolerated being prodded and handled. Vovo was a bit jealous of the attention that she got. It was definitely a two person examination!

Sue spent the afternoon giving Calli's four kittens a bath. . . separately. And thoroughly scrubbing their condo. They are probably ringworm free now. But don't look very happy about it.

They have names: Jasper (ginger), Lapis (black tabby), Coral (white tabby) and Jade (orange).

Gigi's owner would not like this adoption shared but rest assured that she is very well settled in and is a little foodie!

3 days: Ash is doing really well. He’s homed happily in the master bedroom with litter and food separate. He’s eating his morning and evening meals and is drinking some water. “There’s lots of beautiful purrs and sleeping. We’ve renamed him Winston after much family debate.” While their resident cat has been locked in another room, Winston has been out to explore and smell before returning to his safe room. “Both cats now aware of each other and we’ll look at having them on the same floor later in the week.”

1.5 weeks: “Winston is doing amazing.” The introductions went well and both cats are now living alongside each other. “Our older cat just watches Winston play and run around with toys. We have a large cardboard box that they both sit in and peek out of which is super cute.”

 1 month: “Winston is doing great. Loves playing, is eating really well and has beautiful loud purrs when snuggling.” Despite having separate sleep blankets in the lounge, he sleeps next to their older resident cat Tigs.

1 day: "I'll say it right now Jade is the perfect kitten." She's confident, playful and so affectionate. She followed the owner's son around all night and spent most of the evening hanging out in his bedroom chilling. The owner left her in her quiet room to sleep the night because she started to get more and more playful as it got later and they wanted her to have her rest. Jade had her breakfast this morning at 7am and came back to burrow into the owner's bed to sleep some more together. She's used the litter a few times and loves her food. The family won't be changing her name as she seems to be responding to Jade. "We definitely won the lottery with her."

1 week: Jade's really settling in well. Definitely has her energy spurts especially since the family were away all day for work/school but the owner is working from home on Thursday and Friday so the two are enjoying each other's company. As soon as she switches the lights off at night, Jade settles down and either cuddles up for a sleep or goes off and does her own thing but settles quickly. She's still food crazy so they're just controlling that. Otherwise she's wonderful.

Lucky

2 weeks: Lucky is happy. He is eating and using his litter box. Lots of rubs and purrs for the owner but he doesn’t like her husband much. He mainly stays in his owner’s room and sleeps on their bed. He’s still cautious about going into other parts of the house and is starting to play as well.

2.5 weeks: Lucky is settling in and making baby steps towards being confident. “Loves his food!”

 40 days: He lets them pet him and play. He sleeps on the bed and “eats like a horse”. He won’t let them pick him up. He is getting used to the rest of the house and loves his sunbeams. He’s settling in but his owners wish he would be more cuddly.

 

 

No bags again

 Thank you Tuesday. But I took the bags our vollies filled out before the Willoughby garbos came just to get rid of them. The first bin whose lid I opened did have some space. And also a rat. . . a live rat who scurried down into the bin's depths. Poor thing will get a surprise when s/he arrives at the landfill. But it might just be the perfect place for a rat to live.

Since last week Chilli, Mouse and Eric have been adopted. I wonder if the person who adopted Chilli was the one who initially wanted Jade. But Jade was adopted by a mum for her kids' holiday pleasure. That didn't turn out well because one of the kids developed a severe cat allergy within 2 days. He hadn't shown signs to other cats in his life. So it was just Jade. Jade is back with her fosterer. 

Pickle has been moved to Eric's stand alone. This afternoon we moved her to the play place because Cindy and Co had it overnight last night. They need a quiet night tonight.

Chilli's is empty. And Tim wants to move Yin and Yan into Mouse's condo. But they were perfectly happy to be stroked this afternoon in their separate hidey holes. Sue and I thought that they would regress if shut up in an airless condo. So we left them where they were.

And let Venus and Muffin have a night out in the Top Cat. They were delighted to have a good stretch and scratch.

Miz and Riley came to us because their owner has a terminal disease. They don't need their privacy covering. Riley is very friendly now. Miz perhaps not so much but she will come around.

Betty's kittens have been named Barry and Blaze (by Sue). They have ringworm and today had a ringworm treatment bath. They did not enjoy it (neither did Sue). But they rather liked being snuggled up in towels on top of fresh hotties.

Each week Lola tries another spot. She is accepting greetings from strangers as well as vollies these days and does nose bops with anybody who feeds her.

 I was a bit early today. . . for a change. But I still didn't get to eat my lunch until a quarter to three. There were adoptions.

Salt was adopted, perhaps in the morning. Pickles is delighted to be all alone in a double condo. 

A couple came in to adopt Salt whom they had chosen from the website. So I showed them the other availables and they chose Little and Rory. I told them that it is a much better idea to get two kittens because they can play with each other at 4am without waking up their people. They believed me. I was so pleased that I gave them a litter tray (the green, wobbly one with curved edges that is a pain) and loaned them a carry cage to take the boys home in. Rowen will be devastated next Friday. They were his favourite cats being so easy to cuddle.

Then a woman came in to adopt Jade from foster. We filled in the paperwork. It is to be a holiday thrill for her children but she agreed that Jade should be in her own room so that she can have time away from the kids.

Then another woman came in, having been sent to us from Jiji's (the cat cafe on Eastern Valley Way). She checked the website and came to see Jade! Mostly because she wants a "tabby". So I showed her our tabbies. . . which come in ginger, grey and brown. She rather liked Eric who was being his shy, retiring self. She said she would think about it.

While I cleaned up Sebastian and Peebles condo (they had knocked their water bowl into their litter tray in the excitement of seeing me with dinner coming towards them) Irene answered the phone. The woman who came in and met Eric wanted more details. She found the right person to ask. Irene could give her details that I had never heard. They chatted for ages, eventually in German! So I hope Eric has found his forever person.
