Adoption Tails: Couch potatoes Bean and RIcki

 Bean
1 day: The owner will keep Bean's name and he is settling in as well as can be expected. He is eating and drinking - good news. He has found a little cubby hole that he feels safe in. Bean is still using the carrier borrowed from SAFE. The owners will be patient and let Bean go at his own pace.

1 month: Bean has changed and become a really playful and loving pet. The owner's wife ADORES him. He is a very happy cat. Bean now lets nearly everybody in the family pat him and get up close. He does have "a moment" or two, every now and then. The owners could not be happier with him.

Ricki day 1

1 day: Ricki is doing very well. She got used to everything very quickly and already feels at home. They are going to keep her name. She lets them pet and touch her. She hangs out in the living room most of the time rather than in her safe room.

1 week: She is very much feeling at home. She has some scratchers but chooses to use the sofa so she’s working on fixing that with her owner.

1 month: She knows how to use the scratcher now and fits really well into the family.

No adoptions for 10 days

 We are due for a rush. Cleo is overdue. She still hasn't had her kittens and is getting bigger and bigger. How many kittens does she have in there?

There is a new old man cat in Incoming called Dexter cutie.

Robyn was back today (hurrah!) and spent some time figuring out the difference between Teddy and Leon. Leon has white fur around his mouth and his markings are more intense. Teddy's fur around his mouth is more cream coloured and he has a grey streak around his lips. His markings are more diffuse. He is the friendlier one.

The photo exaggerates the difference because Teddy is sitting in the light.

Courtney has settled down and is an affectionate, very pretty cat.

And Opie, a 9 year old, is disgruntled and lets you know that he is not happy with the change in his life.

Adoption Tails: Ginger, Violet, Ziggy: 2 gingers and a lamington and a Zac

 Ginger

 1 day: He slept under the couch, came out this morning with a little hello and to see who was there and where he is. He had a little rub and a look around. He has been in the litter tray and is currently eating breakfast. He ate every bit of his wet food but not the dry food so she will leave it out for him to eat later. He also ate his dinner yesterday. He has been hiding but she is hopeful that he will come out again soon. He is such a beautiful boy.

Ginger, 1 week

1 week: He is very comfortable on the lounge. He is a very loving cat and wants to sit on your lap or touch you. He has an amazing appetite and wants to eat all the time which can be challenging. She’s trying to break his habit of jumping on the bench when she’s preparing his food and it’s going well. When she comes home or enters a room he will run and hide but he will come out, especially if she sits down. He’s a clean boy and likes to play with toys. He has been renamed Gerry.

Ginger 1 month

1 month: Gerry has really settled in. He loves to play with toys, hiding and then running out to surprise his owner. He is being given good food and eats, drinks and plays well. He is getting his next flea and worming next week. “He is a loving and wonderful companion.
1.5 months: Gerry is very inquisitive and loves getting into cupboards. They’re working with his vet to get his diarrhoea issue fixed.

Violet

1 day: She’s eating well at the moment but is not very keen on the water yet. She hasn’t used the litter tray yet but they’re giving her some space so she can go when she’s ready. She’s loving her owner’s pats. They think she’s settling in well so far and she’s such a sweet girl.

1 week: She’s doing quite well! She’s been renamed Lami (short for Lamington). She started using her litter on her second night home and has been using it well since. She’s been eating and drinking well and has started to explore outside of her safe room! She’s cautious about exploring but that is to be expected. She has her own routine that she follows. “We’re so proud of her for doing so well so far”

1 month: Lami has been doing really well. She is very curious and likes to explore the house. She’s definitely more comfortable now and has claimed the cat tree as her personal space. They’re so happy and blessed to have Lami as part of their family. “She has brought us so much joy and is an absolute sweetie”.
 

Ziggy

1 day: Ziggy has been renamed Cheeto. He is doing very well. He has used the litter tray for poo and pee and has been eating and drinking well. He has received so many cuddles and is quite the affectionate kitten. They have not yet let him meet their dog, that might be in a few days time.

4 days: Cheeto didn’t seem to be shy or afraid at all. He is sociable and loves to cuddle. He jumps onto their laps and shoulders and tries to fit into the gap of their arm and side when they sit on the side of the bathtub. He purrs constantly too. He is currently left alone for the working and school hours of the day. He is happy and purring when they spend time together in the morning, afternoon and evening.

1.5 weeks: Everyone spends time with him everyday, some more than others. He is getting to know them and feels comforted by their presence. Sometimes he isn’t as affectionate so his owner thinks it’s a sign that he’s realising they will return regardless of his affection. Most of the time he is very cuddly. They may introduce him to another room this weekend so he gets a feel for the house but he will remain in his safe space. They may also introduce him to their dog, Vera, in the next week but under supervision only.

1 month: They have made great progress. Cheeto is now out of the bathroom and roaming the house freely. He and their dog Vera are getting along and Cheeto uses his litter box albeit on occasion only. He is a funny little one.

Zac, renamed Alfie

1 week: Alfie is still very nervous but is slowly responding to gentle attention.

1 month: Alfie is settling in well now - he jumped onto her lap tonight, a "first " but he is still jumpy with other people.

Adoption Tails: Theodore

Day 1: Theodore is settling in well. He has eaten everything put in front of him and has used the litter tray. He slept happily on the daughter's bed (with her) last night and all seems well so far.

1 week: Theodore is affectionate as ever, currently languishing on a bed which has been sunny most of the afternoon. He seems happy. The owners have had no problems at all other than two poos outside the litterbox but close by so they believe it to be an innocuous misaim. Apart from that, he has been perfect!

1 Month: Theodore is all registered and has not experienced any toilet issues since the owners got him a larger kitty litter tray. He continues to be smoochy and purring. They are delighted to have him here with them!

 

Adoption Tails: Diego

 1 day (03/08/22): He hides under a couch most of the time, but she managed to get him to play a little with her while he was under it. He was very active at night. He hasn't used the litter tray yet, but he did go into it as some pellets were on the floor this morning. He ate last night when she went to bed and had a drink of water. Nothing yet today, but he isn't as anxious today as his eyes are no longer big and black. She will not be renaming him as she thinks Diego suits him just fine. She got Amazon delivery of play toys for him.

1 week (09/08/22): She just talked to Chris at Mona Vale vet about him, as she dropped off a carrier she borrowed to get him home. He had one mishap of him peeing on the bed, but he has used his litter tray every other time. He eats everything she gives him and is taking a treat from her hand. He is still under the couch most of the time but comes out while she is up to look around. Today was the first morning he has come out of hiding, but he generally goes back pretty quickly. He has found a windowsill he likes to sit on and watch the world around him. He likes the window as he can see all the comings and goings in the apartment complex.

1 month (02/09/2022): He only hides if something scares him. He still won’t let his owner touch him. If she is not in the room, he will come looking for her. He loves playing with 2 little mice that are stuffed with catnip. He has to know what is happening all the time by sitting on the windowsill looking at what the neighbours are doing. “He gets better bit by bit every day”. He has already been registered with the council.

Toby who was delivered by Irene and off to a foster home. He could quite easily be a foster fail! He is so very cute and enjoyed all the attention from everyone and anyone.

Second helpings of chicken

 I took more chicken to Safe Haven this afternoon. The cats all swore it was the first helping they had had (from me) for weeks. True enough. I wasn't there last Friday and Sandy handed it out on Wednesday. I was so busy with the chicken I forgot to take any photos.

Joy will be on duty tomorrow morning so I hope that she will take lots for us.

Geoff has devised a moveable, play space that can be pushed against the Cat Palace condos so that the doors can be opened and the cat can come out to stretch their legs. It doesn't quite have a top yet. He is working on that with the structure pushed against Baby's condo. (There is nobody below her as Cyber and Sammy are still in the play place). Baby graciously supervised him. She offered no criticism and didn't try to test anything out until it was all perfectly finished. Max, next door, would not have been so cooperative!

For some unknown reason, Mia was in a cranky mood again today. Tim says that she let him pat her at breakfast time but she spat at the vollies. She enjoyed her chicken without any spits too. I think she is just extra smart.

Maggie was desexed today. She survived the procedure despite the heart murmur. Let us hope she recovers without any issues and that the family who adopted her brother Bart still wants her. Star
was also desexed but her last kitten wasn't well enough to go.

Because I have to add a photo, here is the dog next door that I knitted for their grandbaby.
