Adoption Tails: Lucy and Junior, Alice and Belle

 Lucy & Junior, now Pepper & Ginger

1 day: They're doing great. Lucy, who the owners are now calling Pepper, is so affectionate and Junior, now Ginger, is pretty shy but has come out of the cat cage for food and water. They've both used the litter tray. They are both so sweet and the girls were up at 6am this morning, playing with Pepper. The owner even introduced Pepper to her team over a work Teams call as she was sitting on her lap. Ginger is taking a little longer and definitely prefers it when it's not so noisy (with the kids).

 1 week: They're both just gorgeous. Ginger is slowly getting used to the family and sits with them in the evenings now. Pepper is so cuddly. Naomi (one of SAFE's day managers) will visit the family soon.

Pepper

1 month: They're both doing so well. The family loves them. Ginger has totally come out of her shell and loves being picked up and having cuddles. Pepper loves all the attention and wakes everybody up first thing in the morning for breakfast. Pepper and Ginger like to sit outside on the verandah which is enclosed with pool gates so they can't get out. They get some outside time but they're not allowed out into the bush. "They're a fantastic addition to the family and we are all smitten."

Alice & Belle, now Astrid & Ishka

Alice and Belle's mum is Cleo, whose follow up was an Adoption Tail on Jan 3, 24. 

1 day: Astrid and Ishka are hiding in the big box the owner has put in their room (as the owner expected). There has been 1 poo and a little bit of food has been eaten but not much. The owner expected a big regression. She is giving them the room to themselves and only going in the morning, before bed and once during the day. Hopeful that they pick up regarding food by tomorrow and that she can spend some more time in the room after the weekend.

1 week: They are going well, eating with gusto! The two have yet to explore and spend a lot of time in the wardrobe, especially Ishka but they do play and cuddle with the owner too. The resident boy cat is doing his best to ignore the fact that the room Astrid and Ishka are in exists. He makes sure to tell the owner off when she comes out of there! She thinks the two will be in the room for at least another week before she tries and moves to the next stage of introduction. They are bonding really nicely and she is already in love with them. She thinks they quite like her too!

1 month: Ishka is super confident now and is so affectionate! Astrid is lagging a little bit and unfortunately has peed on the owner's couches, bed, hall and bathroom floor. She is also using the litterbox properly and eating well so quite clearly a stress reaction though the owner is unsure what is stressful. The owner has since closed off the bedroom and loungeroom to give her less space and hopefully help her feel more in control. Jupiter (resident cat) is being really good with them, hanging out in the same room as them and licking both on the head at least once a day. The owner is really happy with how they are all going, individually and together. She is hopeful that Astrid will continue to improve and the peeing will stop, if not she will take Astrid to the vet for a check.

Quiet Friday

 There were enough vollies and I got there early and coped with the poo bags. When you open the door to the verandah there are none left of the great pile that took up almost all of the floor space. But, that is deceptive. There are poo bags behind the door. They are the oldest ones from the bottom of the pile and should be taken away first, please.

We didn't have any visitors. Angel's person came yesterday to adopt her and will pick her up on Sunday as planned.

So I had time to let cats wander and to take photos of Katie's cats. . . . just in case Katie would like to see their happy faces.

Mali used to have a boarding Burmese upstairs. It is quieter without the boarder.

Kimmy doesn't mind the noise. She makes enough of her own.

Cleo is regally quiet.

But Sundae is anybody's for a pat.

Josie's 2 kittens are fine. She is an attentive mum and has learned very quickly that mums get more food.

Sabrina's kittens were in the play place. The tabbies/white ones are friendly and playful.

But the black and white ones are hiding. And in the Nursery/isolation they were the ones (or one of them was the one) who always screamed "FEED ME" at the window whenever somebody looked at him/her. Now look at them!

Sabrina has been separated from them to wean them. They are out of ringworm quarantine. 

Betty is struggling along with her seven and lack of appetite. Chicken helped this afternoon. So I left a bunch for her and some cats missed out (but not Lola who follows me around).

Adoption Tails: Yumi, Cleo and Kat

Yumi

4 days: She’s very good and is slowly coming out of her shell. She has used the litter tray (but only goes when no one is looking. Such a lady), eats all of her food and is drinking water. She is no longer in her safe room and has moved herself into the living room comfortably. All by her own initiative. They are trialing the name Maeby (Mae for short) to see if she responds.

 10 days: Mae is doing great. “She's a bit of a stairs goblin. She likes playing on the stairs with all her toys. She's comfortable in every room of the house now. Her personality is showing a lot more, just not enough to be cuddly yet! She will on her own time.” She’s eating, drinking and using her litter box well. She’s never had any litter issues and knows where her bathroom is.

 1 month: “She is great! Still a little nervous but very at home! Eating well. Using the bathroom well. She isn't very cuddly, but hopefully will feel more comfortable with touch in the winter. It's been very hot lately so I don't blame her.”

 Cleo

1 day: She has settled in really well so far. She is eating, and drinking, and has used the litter tray a few times. She has found a safe haven under one of their small lounges and she likes it there. She comes out when they talk to her and explores her room. Her owner has picked her up several times today and she is loving it. She is also purring. “She is a beautiful healthy baby girl”. Thank you for allowing her to become our precious beautiful girl. “We just love her so much”. They will keep her name although they sometimes call her Chloe. She may end up as CC. All she wants to do is play with her new toys when it’s bedtime.

1 week: She wants to get past the screen door but her owner is a bit scared to let her roam the rest of the house. She is sitting at the back door, looking out the window. She has a couple of favourite spots. She plays with her toys, eats more, uses her litter and lets her owner pick her up. “She is going really well”. She comes to her owner when they call her.

 1 month: “Cleo is just so precious. She has fitted in so well. We just love her with so so much.”

 Kat

5 days: Kat has been renamed Cleo. She settled in quickly. She’s confident and is always asking for pats. “She has claimed one of the chairs in my lounge room which is perfect!” She is great with her litter tray and is always asking for more food. They have an appointment with her vet in a week to touch base and get some more of her medication.

2 weeks: “Cleo seems to be getting more and more comfortable each day”. She met her new vet and got more of her medication.

1 month: Cleo is settling in so well. Her owner’s housemate is also loving having Cleo in their home. “She is an absolutely beautiful girl, and we are seeing more and more of her personality each day”

Christmas Cleo

 1 month: “Cleo is just so precious. She has fitted in so well. We just love her with so so much.”

 

Mimi, aka Minx

1 day: She’s good. She is eating well and has used the litter tray. She hides under the couch but smooches and purrs like crazy when her owner puts her hand under the couch. Her owner has gotten to pick her up once. “She is very sweet”

2.5 weeks: “She explores the whole house and is very interested in food. Very sweet. Gets lots of cuddles”

Mimi in foster home

 The following day: Mimi jumped out of the window last night. Her owner has asked the neighbours and has gone out looking multiple times but there’s no sign of her. They saw her outside but she ran away.

The day after: “Mimi has just come back and looks fine and is happy. She just walked in the back door last night and gave a loud meow. She looked very well and wasn't dehydrated. Hungry of course but she wants food all the time. Very affectionate”

1 month: “She's fine apart from being obsessed with food. We have to put her in another room when we have dinner. Never had a cat so obsessed with food. Loves to play with toys we have for her.” She’s been renamed Minx. She often has lunchtime snacks of fish and chicken.

 

 Peach (now called Hinata)

Peach's owner phoned Sydney on Christmas day. She was adopted on 20/01/2023 so it's been almost a year.

I got this message from Leo's owner on Christmas day. I did the follow-ups for Leo (5569) - adopted September 2022. Victoria did the follow-ups for Lexi (5972) - adopted February 2023. Lexi was one of Molly's kittens.

Adoption Tails: Bertie, Cleo and Amber

Bertie 

2 weeks: He’s doing well and has been eating, drinking and using the litter tray. He spends most of his time under the bed. His owner leaves him alone and doesn't want to disturb him. He comes up to his owner when they offer treats.

3 weeks: He is no longer hiding under the bed. He now sleeps with his owner and is very clingy.

1 day: She has eaten and used the litter tray. She lets her owner scratch behind her ears and pat her head. She does not yet come out of her very big box, but will sometimes stick her head out. “She seems content”. She is comfortable in her box but her owner is keen for her to come out when they are with Cleo. They will be keeping her name.

1 week: Cleo is still hiding in her box. She only comes out at night to eat and does not eat during the daytime. Her owner is concerned about her lack of activity because she spends all her time in the corner of the box. Her owner has a large box and cut an exit hole in it. As soon as Cleo was brought home, she ran into it and has been staying there since.

Cleo, 1 week

1 month: Cleo is still frightened and hides at noises but she is out in the living area most of the time. “She “calls” me to feed her and comes up to me gingerly and looks at me. She gets more comfortable every day. She still has a long way to go but she is getting there which I am of course very happy about.”

Amber

Amber 1 day

Amber 1 week and 3 months below

Amber has turned out to be a super-intelligent, super-playful cat. She loves playfighting with her owner’s hands but is always so gentle with her bites. “She is really starting to form bonds with us and it’s just so lovely to see more and more of her personality coming out. We really love her so much.”

Adoption Tails: Pippy and Cleo, Pippy, Kitty, Cosmo

Pippy and Cleo

 1 day: Pippy and Cleo are doing really well. They already jumped on the bed last night and slept with the owners. They have been eating and drinking as well as using the litter tray. The two also want to come out of the designated room for them already.

1 week: Pippy and Cleo are doing very well. They started to explore the rest of their home and just got their vaccination.

1 month: They are fine. They're big cats now.

Olivia

1 day: Olivia is doing fine. She was very shy yesterday but has been happy to interact playfully with everybody today. She is eating well and using the litter tray. Her name will be changed (the granddaughters are having fun suggesting names) and they are currently trying out Sammy Whiskers!

1 week: Earlier this morning, Sammy was let out of the study where she has been confined for the past week. She was a bit spooked at first by some unfamiliar noises but just scampers back to the study when that happens. She is very friendly - jumps onto the owner's lap then walks across the keyboard while she is trying to type and if she lies down on the bed, Sammy tiptoes up to her chest and snuggles down for a sleep.

Olivia, 1 week

1 month: She is very much at home now. She has explored every room in the house, sleeps on her owner’s bed, and is starting to explore the garden.

Kitty

1 day: The family adores Kitty so much. She is naturally shy and first thing upon arrival in her new home out of the cage, she found a hidden place under a book cupboard and did not come out for 2 days. Their daughter had to push food and water containers under the cupboard for her. While Kitty is still afraid of people, she also occupies the entire study room. The owner's daughter often sits on the floor reading and after a long while, Kitty will sneak out from her spot to explore which made the daughter very happy. Kitty came out and did a poo in the litterbox yesterday and tonight when nobody was in the study. The family would love to share photos once they get a chance to see her more.

1 week: She is much more interactive than previously. She comes out to wander around the room. She went out to the lounge and ran back to her safe room after being seen. She sometimes sleeps on a chair. "She is so adorable".

Kitty, 1 week

Cosmo

1 day: The owner discussed Cosmo's name with her daughter and he is now Snowy. Snowy is settling well in his safe room, eating and drinking well. This morning, he did a wee and poo in the litter tray. Snowy is very playful and energetic in his new home. They bought him some toys to play with. He has been very gentle with their daughter who loves him so much. Snowy loves patting and purrs every time they pat him.

1 week: Snowy is settling in extremely well. He is adventurous and seems ready to explore. The owner started to let him out to the living room just yesterday and he already walks around comfortably. He likes to jump and rest on the dining chairs. Snowy is happy to have his new family around him all the time. They currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment so it has been very easy to spot where Snowy is.

Snowy, 1 week

1 month: He has settled extremely well in their home and loves to be around them. He had his 3rd vaccination last week and now weighs 2.3 kg. He likes dashing in and out of the living room and bedroom. He jumps on his owner's bed at dawn every day asking for breakfast. During the day, he likes lying on top of the piano or on his owner's bed for naps. "It is really a joy to adopt Snowy"
