Adoption Tail: Button

 Button

1 day: Button's great and settled right in! She's very friendly and cuddly, eating well and has been using the litter tray without problems. The owner has been in contact with the foster mum and discussed when Button will be allowed out of the safe room to explore.

1 week: Button is great! She's got full access to the house now and seems very comfortable. When the kids get too rowdy, she usually hides away somewhere. She also likes to sit near the family and sleep on the bed. She lets them at her but the mum would love for her to become a lap cat eventually, understanding that it will take time. She was "helping" fold the laundry earlier.

 1 month: Button's great. Not really that cuddly but very curious and likes to be around the family. Helping fold laundry is still her favourite pastime and she loves the son Rudi, even though he keeps carrying her around everywhere. Button even made friends with a neighbourhood cat through the window the other day

Adoption Tails: The Christmas litter

Rudolf

Rudolf

1 day: “She has settled in well. She’s eating, drinking, playing and purring”.

1 week: She’s a lot more confident, especially with their dog.

1 month: no response

Dasher aka Millie

2 weeks: She has been renamed Millie. “She has been very interested in exploring the rest of the house since being given access to it this week. She is playful, is attached to family members, curious, and eating well.”

1 month: “Millie seems very happy, she plays a lot, is eating well, loves to sit on our laps, enjoying lots of pats, and is attached to family members, and is very curious. She gives us much entertainment.”

Prancer

2 days: She is settling in well. She’s eating well, drinking normally, using the litter tray, and sleeping nicely. She’s found her favourite place on the windowsill. She has been renamed Chutney. “She is very cuddly and affectionate not hiding at all and always seeking attention. Chutney is also getting into some morning meditation with mom.”

1 month: She is really happy, is getting more confident by the day, and is growing.

Dancer aka Kyoto

 

1 day: “She seems to be doing well. She’s exploring the spare room and is eating and drinking, and went to the bathroom. We are probably going to call her Kyoto.”

9 days: She’s going well. She explored most of the house and also playing well with their resident cat Memphis (also adopted from SAFE). She’s still a bit timid but each day she is a bit better and her owners are taking it slowly with her.

1 month: She’s settled in well. Her owners are starting to see her personality more every day and say she’s doubled in size in a month.

Mrs Claws 

2 days: “I may need to give her back. She hasn’t eaten or used the litter tray. She hisses at me. I am mildly allergic (have been taking anti histamines every day). She is the most beautiful cat and I feel I’ve done everyone a disservice in bringing her home. Please advise. I do not want her to be euthanised.”

10 days: They haven’t been able to return Mrs Claws due to their work schedule. “The cat still hisses at me and I cannot get close to her. I am afraid she will injure me. I would like to donate what I have bought for the cat. I am really sorry about the inconvenience caused.”

1 month: “Unfortunately Mrs Claws ran away two days ago. I have been leaving food outside in case she comes back but I have not seen her and neither have my neighbours. I had decided to keep her and now this has unfortunately happened. I am unsure what to do.”

The owner was regularly letting Mrs Claws onto the balcony. She got scared by some wind and jumped off the balcony, presumably going into the national park behind the owner’s house. She didn’t have any tick prevention so it’s assumed she may have died of tick paralysis.

Adoption Tails: Cassie and Berkshire

1 day: Cassie fitting in slowly. Very shy when the sun is out but at night is full of energy. She does enjoy coming out for a pat and a brush in the afternoon but mostly under the owner's bed all morning. She has been eating and drinking normally and used the litter a few times already.

1 week: She's doing really well. Sleeping on the couch which is a huge step for her. The owner has been giving her some wet food with some biscuits in the morning and some biscuits at night so he can "survive the night". She is a lap cat for sure.

No 1 month response

Berkshire, now Rocket

1 week: The little guy was very confident and settled in super quickly, eating and using the kitty litter very easily. The family has renamed him Rocket. He loves to zoom around and play with the girls so it is a great name for him. The older family cat is yet to accept him but they are spending some time each day to introduce them and will hopefully become friends soon. Rocket purrs like crazy each time the resident cat comes in but she is not interested and spends a lot of time in the garage and garden spots instead.

1 month: Rocket is well. The family adores him! He is the perfect WFH companion when taking a nap in bed but can be very distracting when he is awake.

No follow-ups for the rest of her litter: Edsheeran, Callista and Hampshire

Yin and Yang adopted

Terry has done his magic.

Yin and Yang have been with Safe for 1031 days. We will miss them.

Terry also did the paperwork for the adoptions of Cookie and Marisa from foster.

And a vollie has adopt Oscar and will pick him up tomorrow.

Two empty enclosures that Irene will probably have filled by Monday.

A trying afternoon

 I tried to fix the hole in Dexter's condo. There are actually two holes, one up and one down. Dexter started them but the next residents finished the job.

We found the mesh in Opie's room. I borrowed a screw driver set from Dr Kim's which didn't work. Found one in our place but it didn't work either so have abandoned that job for Geoff. (If I remember I will bring an old fashioned needle and thread on Wednesday to do a temporary fix).

Two Chinese origin couples came in this afternoon looking for a fur baby to cement their (obviously) new relationships. Both couples took their time. Both rather liked Annabelle and Abagail.

They will be back or will go to a foster home to see other kittens in situ. Sounds like a lovely wooing.

And a man came to pick up Spot who has had "adopted" on his condo label all week. The man said that he owed us about a hundred dollars. I couldn't find him or Spot in the Shelterbuddy. He gave me his details and I gave him the kitten. It is a curfuffle that Irene and Tim will have to sort out.

A faithful cat donator brought in Sweet Pea whom Irene accepted. And took to Dr Chris to be vet checked because she is super friendly and could be adopted this weekend. Look what happened when she was microchipped. Poor baby.

Enoki and Lion were in the play place having a marvellous time. They were taken to the vet who found no signs of them ever having had ringworm so they are out of Isolation and ready to be adopted. They will have to move out of the Play Place when it is needed for boarding on July 8. With any luck they will be adopted by then.

 For two reasons: I left my camera in the pocket of my jacket that is over the back of a chair in the Weaving Room at Brush Farm House after our meeting there on Saturday. Or I hope it still is!

And husband Jo used my mouse for his computer and it worked there but is not working back at my computer. So the photos I have on my computer are not available yet. Perhaps it will all sort itself out overnight.

The world is separating itself into the technologically competent and the technologically incompetent.

Eg, today a couple came in to buy the microchip controlled feeder that we had advertised. They wanted to pay cash. I don't know how to give a cash receipt and Peter (Irene's husband who was being my 2ic today) doesn't either. He talked them into giving us the $10 change as a donation and promised a tax deductible receipt. . . by somebody else.

I did manage to do the adoption of Harley to the woman who rang early to find out if she was still available and came sooner than she said that she would to do the deed. So Harley has gone. And, thanks to Charley, her condo has been cleaned for Twinkle to move into out of the stand alone where Cooper used to be.

His stand alone has been cleaned too, by Peter, and we moved Linda and her remaining 2 kittens out of the play place into it by the simple expedient of putting their dinner into it and the kittens jumped straight in. Peter had to grab Linda.

Another woman came by to check out our kittens for her family. She had been told that ginger kittens are the friendliest. I said that is probably because most ginger cats are boys (80%) and boy cats tend to be sookier that girl cats who like to rule the roost. 

Later I had a teary call from a woman who wants us to take her boy cat who attacks her and her husband for no reason. I told her to fill in the form on line which is what we tell everybody.

Next day: My mouse decided to play with my computer after being connected to it for a couple of hours. Wouldn't a cat like a mouse like that!
