Adoption Tails: Virgo's star sign litter and the Spices litter

1 day: He’s going really well, all is good.

1 week: He’s going very well. Such a friendly kitten.

1 month: He's going great, such a good addition to the family.

Aries

Aries has settled in very well indeed! So much so that we have started to introduce him to the rest of the house. The family got him a second litter tray that is larger and will become his main one as he grows as well as some extra bowls for food and water. Aries also has a cute perch/scratching station/cubby. He's fully set up for both sides of the house but is returned to his safe room during night time and unsupervised time during the day. 

The family was going to give him a different name but Aries has stuck now. Aries will drag the cat toy fishing around and drop it at the owner's feet to let them know he wants to play. They can't believe how easy and smooth the transition has been. "It's like he's been part of our family and just came home after a long time away!"

Gemini (aka Pesto)

5 days: “Gemini, renamed Pesto, is adjusting very well to his new life.” He has been eating and drinking well. He has started to explore other rooms of the apartment and is now more confident. “He sleeps with us and is very chatty.” 

1 month: “Pesto is very happy and spends a lot of time with us and enjoying his new toys.” He had a rash inside his ear and decided to take him to the vet as they couldn’t reach SAFE. They did his booster vaccination at the same time. He seemed to react to a treat they gave him, as it disappeared once he did not get the treat.

Pisces(aka Rocket)

1 week: “We love him and he’s settling in very well with us!” He has been renamed Rocket and is doing great. “We had him separated for a few days but he was very keen to explore and he’s become best friends with our 4 year old cat. They’ve been sleeping next to each other during the day and playing a lot. He’s using his litter and eating and drinking water regularly.” They are keeping them apart at night and when they’re unsupervised but they don’t feel it’s necessary for much longer as they’re very relaxed around each other and play well.

1 month: “He’s doing very well and grown a fair bit. He’s getting along very well with our resident cat and they are having cuddles and licking each other so I couldn’t be happier with their bond”

1 day: They are doing fine in their safe room. They are eating, drinking and using the litter tray. They will be renaming them but aren’t 100% sure about their names yet. “They are so cute”

1 week: “We are doing well with the kittens.” They had a few issues getting used to each other but their owners are sure they can overcome them. The kids have given them new names. Scorpio is now Ditto and Cinnamon is now Dash. “We let them come out of their safe room last night and they had a great time together playing in the house.”

1 month: “They are awesome! We are super happy.”

1 day: They are settling in fine. Eating, drinking and using the litter tray. 

1 week: They are doing well. The two have started to spend some time out of the safe room and even sit by the windows to watch the birdies outside

No 1 month response. 

Chilli

1 day: Chilli had a good night and has a little to eat, used the litterbox last night and this morning but no poo yet. He had cuddles before bed. He is settling in well. The owners love the name!

1 week: He is delightful, no more safe room and sleeps on the owner's bed at night when he is not running around the unit. They are very happy with him.

 1 month: Chilli is doing great, the owner tried to get a good photo of him in front of the fireplace last night but he wouldn't keep still.

Ants

 I came home today to find ants in Cody's quarter full bag (4Kgm) of crunchies. It has been a very bad summer for ants here in Sydney and I had not sealed the zip seal properly last time I scooped out a jam jar of crunchies. Be warned. And hope that ants don't discover the Safe crunchy shelves!

I moved Pickles from Isolation (aka Maternity) into Dancer's enclosure. No, Dancer hasn't been adopted. She has been moved next to Angel and Rory and Little have moved to the condo below Virgo.

Pickles and co love their new space. They were acrobatic when exploring the possibilities when they first moved in. There are 3 hammocks. Top two have one kitten each, bottom one has two kittens. Mum gets to sleep on the floor.

Penelope and Dot were brought in by their foster carers. And left them with us accompanied by tears. They are quite young so should settle down well (both cats and people). [Dot is a boy and has a spot above his right eye].

Josie's kittens are doing very well. They are plump and adventurous. A grand advertisement for not having 7 kittens at one time like Betty did. Her lot have gummy eyes and empty tummies because she has quit feeding them.

PC had time out today and got to meet Michelle. She was not impressed. He was much more interested in being groomed with the strange blue cylindrical toy-thing.

Lola has a new role

 Lola has taken over being office cat from Ginger George and Tiger. This afternoon she sat on a visitor's chair for an hour. She then moved to sit on the desk.

Luckily that was after I did the paperwork for Adele who has been adopted by a lovely, older lady whose cat died some time ago and who is now ready for another. Adele went into her carrier (a top loader) with no trouble at all. And didn't make a sound as I carried her down to the car. They will be happy together.
 

Devo and Queenie have been adopted but are still with us. They are boarding until Sunday while their new people get themselves sorted. The boarding area is already booked out so they get to stay in their own condo.

Sparkle has moved into Junior and Lucy's stand alone. And his name has been changed to Sparky.

I gave Virgo more light in her corner condo. She seems to always been peering out without the hissing.

Kenzie looks as though she needs a good brush. There is a tiny brush on a long stick in her condo. I tried stroking her with it, gently. She, just as gently, pushed it away. Tiny steps. .  . . .

 We have lots of pairs of cats.

Jack and Luna, the kittens with the long, will be fluffy tails will be picked up on Monday. They will go home with a vollie and never made it to the Adoption list.

Below them are Charlie and Champ who are settling back into the condo after being in foster home.

They entertained Jagger this afternoon. He hid under their bed. Then he moved on to Rosie and Callie's condo and into their carry cage. Which made it easy for me to get him back into his condo for his share of chicken. . . . . he forgives anything for chicken.

And beyond them is Mabel and Tori. Very hard to get Tori to stay still for a photo.

They are below Virgo who has had her second curtain removed. She was very keen for chicken.

Not to mention Donatella and McQueen. Arlo was sitting on top of Annie today. Usually he pushes her to the front of the hammock. She is the shy one. He loves cuddles. Go figure.

 The laundry shelves. I added to the stacks in a colour coordinated manner and went to get my camera to take a photo. On the way I noticed all the torties having their time out:

Cookie was adopted late this afternoon. Her test came back negative so her person is happy. Her sisters are in the Lucky condo and are quite shy. Virgo has moved to were Maeve was. And Chia has moved to under Belle. (Shadow looks moth eaten around his rear). And two pairs of cats from Better Row have moved into their double condos below Libby.

Maggie and her crew may have ringworm but they are full of beans. They manage to squeeze out of the Royal Cannin standalone in the narrowest of door opening spaces. They can get through a gap that I can't get my hand through. Adele's lot are angels by comparison.

 Well, no kittens available for adoption. Virgo and Chia are on their own. Neither looks pleased about it.

Donatella was much friendlier today. She jumped out to play and let me pat her (once).

And Lyra has decided that people are not so bad and allows some head scrunches.

But the most noticeable thing that happened today is:

CLEAN WINDOWS

The C kittens (not yet desexed despite their size) in the play place were fascinated to watch the mop go up and down the windows. Sue even made a new, laminated sign to remind folk to ask the day manager if you want to change the bedding.

PLUS: Catsie rearranged the clean towels, etc, shelves. They are now good enough to grace a very superior bathroom supply store. The colour coordination is ace. Thank you, Catsie and thank you everybody else for keeping them pristine for at least a week. . . . . please.

 The room off the kitchen is a quarantine zone. Anybody who goes in there must wear booties and toss them in the bucket at the door as they leave to stop tracking ringworm throughout the cattery. Davo didn't get adopted. He got ringworm and is back in incoming. Mickey is where Davo was.

He looks much happier having a view of everything. (I didn't try to feed him so don't know if he is still desperate for food).

Ezra and his mum Lyra have moved from Incoming to where Tiger was. Ezra was adopted this afternoon. Somehow their condo was opened and Lyra moved out before the adopters arrived and into one of the hidey holes in the tall Top Cat scratchie. I was in the process of trying to tempt her back into the condo when they arrived. She is still there and the Top Cats surrounds her hideout.

Virgo only has one kitten left, Scorpio. The other two were adopted over the weekend. I caught him suckling her this afternoon. No wonder she looks fed up.

Princess got adopted and Maria doesn't look too upset.

Vicky and I tried to work out the difference between the kittens who are in the play place. They were in Incoming. Two of them are almost identical. They are both stunning tabbies with white feet and tummies. The other doesn't have white feet. She is Citrine. One of the white pawed ones has darker markings that the other. She is Amber and the other is Copper. Or vise versa. They are all delightful and one even likes her tummy being tickled.

Notice that he is outside the area that usually contains him. To get him back to where he belonged, I lifted the tray of well chewed grass over the fence.

And Kate came out of her condo to try some. She usually stays inside while Helena roves around looking for any dishes that might have some left over breakfast in the open condos.

Virgo has moved to where Coco and her sisters were, next door to Chia. Coco and one of her sisters (Muffin) were adopted over the weekend. The last sister, the shyest one, Venice, is above Thelma and Louise on Better Row. She spent the entire day in her litter box. No way was she moving out of it to let us clean it, or to eat breakfast, or dinner. She is Miserable without her siblings.

Maggie and her five have moved into the play place. They like it and are masters of the big, ring thing already. While I cleaned their area, Maggie forgot herself and rubbed up against my legs. And at early dinnertime her fluffy tuxedo was so jealously guarding a small toy, growling away his brothers and sisters, that he missed out on dinner. I told Tim who offered to give them a second dinner later.

Rootless

 I noticed today that the Morten Bay Fig that grows on the cliff opposite our verandah is not looking well. A section of it's leaves are yellowed. Morten Bay Fig trees do not loose their leaves in autumn. I suspect it might be happening because somebody, with a chain saw, cut through the roots that run down the cliff face to the gutter beside our driveway. This may have been a spectacularly stupid thing to have done. Time will tell.

In the meantime, two of Virgo's boys have been adopted. She looks much more relaxed than she did when she had five boy kittens. Here she is with everybody piled on top of her. Her daughter is wearing the collar.

Milo has a leave by date: June 24. He can't wait to get home.

Maeve has moved to above Chia et al. She might regret the move because they are a rowdy lot and she enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Boarding row. I didn't have any trouble moving her. She stayed in her box. If you miss Opie, he might be hiding in the blue box in the foyer.

Geoff spent some time trying to ensure that the Top Cat is safe for the folk who set it up. There is a cord at the top between the middle bit and one side that ensures that the "roof" does not fall onto somebody's head when it is swung over and that cord is not in place. If you disconnect the cord in order to make it a line rather than a 3 sided square, please put it back when the apparatus is stashed or the next folk might be brained.

Geoff might be whisked off to Canada to help with the wild fires there. The organisers are overwhelmed so it might not happen which will be good for us. But imagine what interesting critters he could rescue in the Canadian wilderness!

 The blue Cousins bin (of cardboard/paper waste) was emptied today. But the red bin wasn't. Never mind. I promptly refilled the blue bin with the boxes that were delivered with merchandise for us to sell. Included were 5 large boxes with 4 large cat carriers in each. It took some time to put the first one together. But the second one was much quicker. It is a superior cat carrier and comes with a spare screw and a water/food bowl that attaches to the door. And the price was right.

And the blue bin is full again.

Two visitors this afternoon. One was doing the paperwork for Martini who is in a foster home. I assumed that Martini was a boy name (perhaps influenced by memories of Dean Martin). But this Martini is a girl. The new printer had a conniption fit and needed Katie and Tim's attention to get it to print out the relevant forms.

The other visitor spent lots of time looking for two boy cats, preferably with long hair to adopt. All his family have long haired cats. Kenzie and Hanna would have been perfect. . . . if they were boys (and available).

Eventually he decided to come back later this weekend when he has consulted his partner (who has 3 cats and a labradoodle) and his daughter who lives with him.

In the meantime, Maxwell had a bath yesterday. The water was brown. But he still looks grubby.

 And finally I couldn't resist taking a photo of the house a few doors up the street with the newly landscaped front yard. Camellias have been spectacular this year.

 The cardboard recycle bin was still full when I left this afternoon but the other trash bin was empty. So we now have 3 rubbish bins. Bliss.

Maeve was adopted earlier in the week. A woman adopted from us a year or two ago and then had a stroke and had to give her cat back to us. She is now all ready for another cat to love. Maeve will be perfect as she only wants somebody to sit beside to purr to.

Pearl would like somebody to purr to too. She is still in the heavenly condo. And Samson has moved in below her. He has come from his foster home because they are going away, on holiday. He looks very big for 6 months!

Virgo's kittens love the play place. I cannot imagine having a litter of kittens at home. They would be all over the place at full speed constantly, unless asleep in a pile.

Ronnie and Jagger learned to climb and jump in the play place too. Ronnie likes scaling the opened-out Top Cat to get on top of the condos. But he is very easy to get down because he is exceedingly fond of food.

Luigi, Princess and Maria have moved into the main room because Hank has developed flu like symptoms. They were wheeled in their stand alones. Here they are exploring the Top Cat. They soon found the way under the stand alone to explore further. Maria was the hardest to corner. But we did it, with food in a carry cage.

And we have Cookie, Muffin and Venus next to Chia et al. One of them spent all day tucked up in the modesty sheet. They are not allowed out.
