A trying afternoon

I tried to fix the hole in Dexter's condo. There are actually two holes, one up and one down. Dexter started them but the next residents finished the job.

We found the mesh in Opie's room. I borrowed a screw driver set from Dr Kim's which didn't work. Found one in our place but it didn't work either so have abandoned that job for Geoff. (If I remember I will bring an old fashioned needle and thread on Wednesday to do a temporary fix).

Two Chinese origin couples came in this afternoon looking for a fur baby to cement their (obviously) new relationships. Both couples took their time. Both rather liked Annabelle and Abagail.

Annabelle and Abagail
(Not so cute in this photo where one appears to wear a flying saucer on her head!)

They will be back or will go to a foster home to see other kittens in situ. Sounds like a lovely wooing.

And a man came to pick up Spot who has had "adopted" on his condo label all week. The man said that he owed us about a hundred dollars. I couldn't find him or Spot in the Shelterbuddy. He gave me his details and I gave him the kitten. It is a curfuffle that Irene and Tim will have to sort out.

A faithful cat donator brought in Sweet Pea whom Irene accepted. And took to Dr Chris to be vet checked because she is super friendly and could be adopted this weekend. Look what happened when she was microchipped. Poor baby.

Sweetpea
Enoki and Lion were in the play place having a marvellous time. They were taken to the vet who found no signs of them ever having had ringworm so they are out of Isolation and ready to be adopted. They will have to move out of the Play Place when it is needed for boarding on July 8. With any luck they will be adopted by then.

Terry does Wednesday magic

A couple came in today to adopt Spot. They spent hours on the weekend deciding on her. And more hours this afternoon after doing her paperwork, revisiting all their new friends.

Spot's new people

Logan was adopted over the weekend and Angus looks lonely in the great big enclosure all by himself.

Angus alone

Perhaps he should swap with Mia who loves to play catch the dangly toy on a stick, with her door wide open, as demonstrated by Ainsley this morning. I was so impressed that I gave Mia a proper bed, rather than the small, folded towel that she had. She was pleased. We took down her modesty sheet and she seemed fine with that as well.

Mia
Sundae has been moved to where Tosca was. Tosca must have been adopted yesterday. Her coat looks as though she needs to go to the beauty parlor for a good shampoo and blow dry. She doesn't mind being brushed but it doesn't seem to do much good.
Sundae
Jane's condo was opened when things quietened down for her to go for a wander. Somebody opened Kenzie's door as well. Within a few minutes they were both in Jane's condo and perfectly happy to stay together. How to get Kenzie back to her's? I waited and she didn't do it by herself. Eventually, Jane jumped up into Kenzie's condo and Kenzie moved into Jane's bed box. It was as though they had discussed it and came to a decision. I swapped the litter trays, the bedding, the water bowl, the food bowls and the name tags!

Somebody had attached the balls that run dye when wet into the condos. I took them out and threw them away. But I did save the clips that might come in handy. Mariko was apologetic that her Christmas toys are not safe for our cats. She came with more toys and gifts for us as well as three bags of Mother and Baby Cat crunchies that we had run out of. Mariko is a treasure.

I clipped them together and hid them in small balls drawer

New enclosures

These are very spacious for one cat. I imagine that they will be used for families. Prue and Trude were overexposed so I put up a modesty sheet to shield them from the front door traffic and put a towel over the transparent dome on the igloo that they were hiding in. They did come out for chicken. Sydney (next door) didn't.

Prue and Trude

These enclosures will be fun to clean because you can stand up easily in them. But I think the floor will take a beating. I will have to make more triangular hammocks for the cats to loll in.

Mimi also came out for chicken. She was so thrilled that she arched her back and her tail stuck through the top of her wigwam and made it fall to pieces. She may be sleeping on top of a felt bed tonight.

Mimi
Spot, another new cat from a foster home is still sulking. He didn't fancy any chicken. It is a pity that Sparky's sang froid didn't infect that stand alone.
Spot
I forgot to bring in a newspaper for Pickle. As there was lots of cardboard around, I made a nesting box out of a sheet of it with the help of the Stanley blade and the stapler. I put some odd bits of paper in it and placed it behind a modesty sheet in Pickle's stand alone. She immediately jumped in and started to scratch at the paper. There might be kittens by tomorrow morning! Then I found the new mop and bucket in a perfectly sized box! The mop is put together and the box is on top of Pickle's stand alone in case it is needed.

Geoff made friends with blind Hermione.

Soxy's second chance

First, go to yesterday's Adoption Tails to look at the lovely photo of Collette sent by her new owners. No photo of Candy, unfortunately.

They were two vollies down this morning at Safe Haven. Robyn to the rescue. She came in and helped Sophia who is a brand new vollie. Later in the day, Sophia brought her mother by to meet the cats. She cooed at them in Hungarian and all the cats understood every word she said. Pommie was particularly receptive. She is a girl, 5 years old, no history yet.

Pommie
Archie, next door was not quite so ready to make friends although he did warm to me later (or was it to my chicken fingers?)
Archie

Petal is without her cone as is Magnus. They both looked more relaxed. And Wilson was in the play place all afternoon. Initially when there he walked around growling. Today he was happy enough getting pats from me while I ate my lunch with him. But when I opened the balcony door and noises came in from downstairs he was a bit grumbly. I never finished my lunch because a mother and daughter arrived to adopt Spot and Smudge. They have always had 3 cats but are down to one so wanted males to get their numbers up to normal. The finger test didn't determine which was who. And they were equally friendly to their new family. Kittens adapt so well, sometimes.

Even Harper and Scout are more relaxed. Their sibling Latte is to be brought in tomorrow "from the wild". That might set them back a bit. Or, perhaps, they will tell Latte how delicious chicken is.

There are new kittens in Incoming called Quinn, Sidney, Yin and Yang. I could only see one.
Looks like a Yang to me

But the very best news of the day is that Brandon came, sat with Soxy for ages and adopted him. He has his flat all set up with the box that his fridge came in on its side with another box with a comfy blanket in it along with a litter tray etc in his bedroom. He works from home, on the phone, so Soxy will always have somebody nearby. He has had lots of shy cats in his 21 years.

How do you made a cat a little horse?

Magnus
Well, if he is Magnus you carry him into the play place, take off his cone, let him groom all the bits that he can't reach with his cone on, and introduce him to the kittens on the other side of the transparent wall. He purred and purred and must have been a little hoarse when it was time to go back to his condo. As he hasn't really been out of it since his eye was removed, I think he will have to get used to his monocular vision. He certainly didn't try to jump up on anything. He mostly sat and PURRED.

We have new cats. Another grey one, Pommie has been surrendered. He is in hiding and not eating. By the look of his carry cage, he had not left his home in years. It looked as though it had been stored on the top of the shed out back.

There are four new "kittens" in Incoming. They might have been kittens when first noticed in the wild but they are quite big now. Two live at the bottom of a large igloo. The other two sit on a ledge, warily.

Spot and Smudge have returned from being fostered. Spot is supposed to be the friendlier, leader of this bonded pair. When I presented my finger for them to meet me, they both came forward to sniff. Neither minded when my finger patted their cheeks. So I don't know which is which. I did move their stand alone wheely cage to the opposite wall beside the merchandise shelves. They seemed very "distrait" when on the opposite wall being exposed to doors and lights. Much happier in the afternoon. I swapped them with Cathy who is happy wherever she gets attention.

Spot and Smudge

Harper and Scout are still skitty but not as bad as last Friday.

And Ebony is back from foster care. It was always a temporary placement. She seemed interested to see us again rather than frightened or pleased.

Lockdown = Adoptions

Joy tells me that Coco has moved in and taken over her friends' Barb and David's lives and appartments. They can't believe that she is 9 years old. She is so active. Since she was adopted on Friday, Dudley, Luke and Rosie, Misty, Rosco, Sylvi, Sprinkles, Ken, Kosta and Murphy (today) have been adopted as well. A group of teenagers came (with parental approval) to get a small boy and Murphy chose them. It is amazing how much teenaged boys love kittens. But they have no idea how to hold them or cuddle them. I had to teach them. . . . its a hard job. Then an older couple arrived with their autistic, adult son. He had chosen Chloe from the web site. The parents thought they should come see. Chloe hid as far away in the play place that she could get, of course. Cooper was interested. After I went in and picked him up, cuddled, handed him over, he was quite happy with them. But the son was fixated on Chloe. So we looked at all the other young adults available. They took photos of the ones that he liked. They have gone away to think about it. Such a nice family group. Then an Indian family arrived looking for a dog/puppy. I told them to email Steph. Which got me to 3:30. I threw dinner at the cats and brought my sorry, cold infected bones home. With all the adoptions there have been movements. Lucky is below Ebony. She is not in the carrier, which is a surprise. And Joy said that she didn't spit when cleaned up.
Valentino is next door and wants to step into the arms of anybody who opens his door.
The lovely Riley remains in Incoming. He has lost his terror but is still a little shy. Joy has discovered that he loves playing with a ping pong ball.
Diagonally below him is a new young cat, Daisy who is a love. She has a suspicioulsy swollen belly.
The kittens in Quarrantine are Spot and Smudge. Don't know who is who as they both have spots. They have been in a foster home and are super friendly (and hungry).
