Geoffless Friday

 As will be the next three. Tommy is sulking.

I didn't have time to take any photos today so will use some of Joy's from Wednesday.

Yahtzee has become much tamer

And her kittens are healthy and playful

Their names are Battleship (brown tabby), Dice (white tail tip), Scrabble (black) and Bopit (all cream).

The photo of Pikachu on the Safe website is not good. She is getting more confident now that she is not in the busy lane. I am not sure how much she can see.

Lola's stand alone has been filled by a cat called Aldi. No prizes for guessing where he was found. He was brought in by one of our cat "rescuers" who is going to retire.

There may be a couple of adoptions tomorrow by separate women who came in to scout our collection. One was looking for a kitten for her 5 year old son. Then she met Shadow and fell in love. I could almost hear the thump as she fell! It was mutual too. Shadow even got out of his bed box to continue their love-in. She will be back tomorrow so that the son can choose the cat.

The other woman will be back as well. Good luck.

 I changed Trude and Prue's upper hammock for a clean one without the damage on the underside. They were not happy to be disturbed. I wonder how long it will take them to try the new one.

Teddy the cat who was surrendered on Wednesday and put in the celestial condo has been moved to where Raven was below Peaches in Welfare. If cats get adopted over the weekend, there will be more movements.

Lilly + lot have left

 A woman came in this morning. She had come in on Monday to adopt Lilly but she had already been adopted. She came back today to adopt Tinsel. But he doesn't want to be a cuddle cat. And as soon as Lilly's last kitten Milly was put into the adopters arms is was mutual LOVE. The woman's pug will have its nose out of joint (! if a pug's nose has a joint!) but only until Milly wins him over. . . .. three days, max.

We have some new cats on Boarders Row.

There is an unfortunate fellow, Brandon who has had both of his eyes removed. He seems to find the litter box, definitely finds his food bowl (especially if it is put up on an upturned bowl to make it easier from him to get his cone around) and his water. He enjoyed being brushed for a little while.

 His neighbours are the four Scaredy kittens. They are getting settled and I got to pat each one this afternoon with no hisses. Names L to R:

And a new Teddy arrived this morning at 9:45. He is a bit shell shocked at being surrendered but will be a love bug soon. He has the celestial single in Boarding.

Adoption Tails: Diego, Cal, Camille

Diego, now Atlas

1 day: The owner is planning on changing Diego's name to Atlas. He's doing well so far. He's kept to himself since coming home but did eat the wet food the owner put out for dinner, not when she was there. He's been exploring the room but has yet to use the litter tray.

1 week: Atlas is doing really well! He is very snuggly and has explored the whole apartment now so he's settling in. Still very shy around new people but he's definitely getting more comfortable everyday.

1 month: He's doing well - spends most of his day snoozing by the window but has spent a couple nights cuddled up to the owner which has been lovely!

2 days: He is eating and drinking fine, and using the litter tray as expected. His owners are deciding between renaming him Tiger and Tigger. He has integrated into his new home very well. Any concerns with their older cat have disappeared as they are playing together nicely.

1 week: ”He has examined every aspect of our house multiple times. He's a handful but getting on fine with everyone. He's also eating well and getting bigger”.

1 month: no response

1 day: Everything seems good. She is timid and I think a bit overwhelmed but we have given her her own room and space that’s her safe space. She has been eating and drinking just fine and has been using the litter tray. I think we will be renaming her Maisie as we feel it suits her.”

1.5 weeks: “Maisie is settling in very well. She is slowly getting to know the house. She is still quite jumpy at new sounds but I assume that’s normal. She is a complete love bug and loves snuggling up with us at any point of the day which is a good sign. She has also started following us around the house, letting us know she is getting more comfortable. She is certainly being well loved and I think she is starting to understand that and has brought us so much joy and life into the household. She has been a lovely addition to the family and we have all had our fair share of cuddles from her. I’m excited to see her once her full personality comes out”

1 month: “Maisie is doing amazing and has settled right into our home like she has been here since the beginning. She is the most beautiful soul and we are beyond grateful to have found her. Just wanted to thank you and all the volunteers for helping us bring her into our home. She has found her forever home and is so so loved”

Adoption Tails: Lucy, Luna, Rory and Squeak

 Lucy

1 day: Lucy spent the whole day in the carrier when she first came home. At night, she left her hiding spot to eat some dry food. In the morning, she was still hiding but started exploring the room in the afternoon and even ate some wet food. She has yet to toilet but found another hiding spot under the desk and remained in that spot when the owners got home.

 1 week: Lucy is really good. Snuggling with the owners on the sofa, playing with toys and loving her food. Even coming in the mornings to say hi. Basically treats the house like her own for a bit already. The owners are just wondering what her story is as Lucy is terrified of the vacuum and spooked by any door noise.

 1 month: Lucy is all good, she has become a professional couch cat. She has really settled into the apartment and grown attached to the owners.

2 days: “She’s settling in well.” She’s using her litter box, eating, and drinking. She has been renamed Lola.

1.5 weeks: Lola is “happily ruling the roost”. “She’s a lovely snuggle bunny.”

5 weeks: “She’s settled in very well and is a gorgeous addition to our family”

Rory and Squeak

5 days: “Rory and Squeak are doing great at the moment. They’re completely settled in to their safe room and are eating, drinking, using their litter tray, playing etc. We haven’t decided yet whether we’ll be renaming them or not, but we are considering it”

2 weeks: “Rory and Squeak showed LOTS of interest in being outside of their safe room before the week was up however we kept them there for a week as needed. They’ve been free to explore the rest of our flat for the last few days and are loving it, stretching their legs and being very inquisitive and cheeky!”

1 month: “They’re doing absolutely great - they love chasing each other up and down the halls. They’re growing so fast and getting stronger and more adventurous every day.“

Ash gone

 Only one adoption this afternoon. As it was Mum, Dad, Son and son's mate (who looks after their cats when they are away) . . . it took a while. They had two female cats. One has recently died of old age (18yo: much the same as the Son) so they came to find a companion for her. 

When I arrived on the scene they were lusting after Tank. Too energetic, says I. Much better to have an adult to go with the 15 year old. So they moved on to Shadow and Ash. After lots of pats and discussion they chose Ash who has made amazing progress from a hissy, scardey cat when he first arrived a month or so ago into an attention seeking sook. Shadow took two years to make the same transition!

 It seems that Ash was very friendly when he was a colony cat. He just didn't like being put into a condo. He should be just fine, given time, in his new home. Seeing him walk around, he has a small body and a big head which is either a sign of exceptional intelligence or a result of having been desexed as an adult who didn't get enough food when he was a teenager.

After they left, we invited Turbo and Hiccup to step out of their condo. They declined, again.

And Pikachu likes being in Mickey's condo. She seems much more confident today.

And Emma's eye socket must feel less painful. She is back to her cuddlebug self.

We moved Willow back to where she used to be on Better Row. It wasn't easy. She escaped out of her condo while being "boxed" and hid under the stand alone. She was gently persuaded to walk into her own cat carrier with the broom handle.

Which reminds me. I bought a new broom for the Welfare area. Not before time!

 It seems that somebody was using the 4% bleach straight instead of diluting it to sterilize washing up and condos. So Sue made some signs.

Aziza says that it wasn't her. Her Adom has been adopted.

They love the Palace. They no longer try to bolt out of it as do Lilly and her kittens from their enclosure. But Lilly's lot will be mostly gone by the end of the week. Ryder was adopted today and Jasper will be picked up tomorrow.

But the real news is that Pikachu has been moved:

To Mickey's condo. . . . . 

Mickey has gone to Joan's to foster. Joan says that he is in his own bathroom, where she can watch him with a camera. He hasn't come out of his carrier since he arrived there on Monday. He hasn't eaten the nice new food that she bought for him. So I gave her some of our crunchies that he does eat. . . . eventually. But he will allow her to groom him with a brush. Early days after such a long time with us. (My first blog about him was Oct 20, 2022).

And Minty and Rascal have been moved to boarding. They are not in together. They didn't really like each other when they were together before their brush with ringworm.

And we were given a group of four big kittens from a colony. They are in boarding and are scared.

Busy afternoon

 There were three adoptions.

First a woman rang to ask if we had any grey kittens. She wanted to replace her ferret who died aged 8 after a hard start recovering from being shaken by a dog. She saw George on our website. George played hard to get, of course. I introduced her to Princess the not-ready-yet big fluffy grey in Boarding. She chose George who was surprisingly easy to get into her carrier. So I feel they will settle down together nicely.

The couple who adopted Bear instead of George might be surprised when they pick him up on Monday.

Then a woman came from her apartment in Sussex St, Sydney to do the paperwork for Onyx who is in foster.

Then a young man came for a quick look at the cats at 3:45pm. It wasn't a quick look. But because he had such a lovely Scottish accent he was forgiven. (His accent is just like Sean the Shepherd's on YouTube. . . great viewing if you like to watch dogs herding sheep and ducklings). He fell in love with Tank, the first kitten he saw. (Lilly's kittens were all being desexed in Fairfield at their donor's expense). Tank liked him too.

 Then he spotted Pip Squeak who is in Luna's condo. Pippy was his charming self.

 Pikachu was interested in meeting him but a bit shy.

Then I introduced him to Shadow and they had an instant relationship. It is amazing how Shadow has taken to people in the last month.
