Busy afternoon

 There were three adoptions.

First a woman rang to ask if we had any grey kittens. She wanted to replace her ferret who died aged 8 after a hard start recovering from being shaken by a dog. She saw George on our website. George played hard to get, of course. I introduced her to Princess the not-ready-yet big fluffy grey in Boarding. She chose George who was surprisingly easy to get into her carrier. So I feel they will settle down together nicely.

The couple who adopted Bear instead of George might be surprised when they pick him up on Monday.

Then a woman came from her apartment in Sussex St, Sydney to do the paperwork for Onyx who is in foster.

Then a young man came for a quick look at the cats at 3:45pm. It wasn't a quick look. But because he had such a lovely Scottish accent he was forgiven. (His accent is just like Sean the Shepherd's on YouTube. . . great viewing if you like to watch dogs herding sheep and ducklings). He fell in love with Tank, the first kitten he saw. (Lilly's kittens were all being desexed in Fairfield at their donor's expense). Tank liked him too.

 Then he spotted Pip Squeak who is in Luna's condo. Pippy was his charming self.

 Pikachu was interested in meeting him but a bit shy.

Then I introduced him to Shadow and they had an instant relationship. It is amazing how Shadow has taken to people in the last month.

He will be back on Sunday to make his choice.

More names needed

 I got to the cattery before the Willoughby collection. So gleefully planned schlepping out bags to fill others bins. But, the trolley was obstructed by boxes and bags of litter so I decided that I would wait for the Cousins bins. Which we did before lunch. And the Willoughby bins were still not emptied. They were by the time that I left. But even though the store room had been somewhat cleared, I decided not to get out the trolley into the pouring rain. Sorry tomorrow. There are bags on the balcony.

We had 3 lots of adopters this afternoon. One couple came to adopt Bear. They had been in on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Initially they wanted George because he is grey like their previous, much beloved cat. But George is Shy and Bear is liquidly loving. They did the paperwork despite a computer malfunction. They will collect him on Monday because they are going away this weekend.

The next couple had been before as well. They are in love with Ryan of Lilly's litter in Enclosure 3 (the one out of which 5 kittens explode at every meal time). But somebody else has bagsed him . . . if we have the correct kitten. They don't have microchip numbers in the computer so it is difficult to tell them apart from the tiny photos. This couple will return.

The final couple came to look at George. Of course Bear came up for cuddles. I showed them other kittens. They were entranced. I showed them adults. They were enthusiastic. They decided that an adult would suit them better and had trouble deciding between Shadow and Luma. Shadow was very friendly.

But Luna was loving. So they chose her. Done! I think it is a very good match for all three of them.

In the meantime, Claire took photos and videos in Incoming. She has named the six fluffy kittens in the stand alone:

Fluffy tabby with white moustache: Souffles (with a grave on the e)

Fluffy tabby: Mont Blanc

Fluffy tabby with left beauty spot: Brulee

short hair tabby: Kingston

tabby, short hair and orange: Monte Carlo

 The last kitten is probably a calico so is female. Perhaps she can be Monte Carla.

 Peache's kittens are all well and have moved to Incoming to Shadow's condo. They don't quite know how to jump up the levels. They are used to scrambling up the wires of the stand alone or swinging up the hammocks. They need Peachy names.

Aziza's girl kittens have been desexed. So next weekend should be a bumper adoption weekend. And there is still an Adom.

Five in Playplace

 There are five kittens in the play place. They are all playing together and seem much happier now. Especially at meal times.

There were adoptions over the weekend. Tulip and Tilly have moved into Mallee's condo.

I moved Prime into Hui Hui's condo to give him more room. And three kittens came out of the stand alone in incoming to be next door to Bassuria and Julie (who looks even thinner this week.

I had a shock when I opened the Isolation door this afternoon. Minty's mate Rascal's door was wide open. He was nowhere to be seen. I opened his bedbox door. There he was . . . . hissing at me.

There were 14 of us workers at Safehaven today. Which meant the work was finished early and the vollies got to play with the kittens.

 Irene wanted kittens moved. So I successfully organised vollies to move Chloe, Pikachu and Blaze to the double under Bissie in Welfare. They settled in immediately. Especially Pikachu (the name comes from Pokemon, I am told). The other two are sweet, friendly kittens Pikachu is wary of people (with good reason!)

I moved Romeo out of the Play Place back to his condo. He spent most of his time lying in his litterbox in the Play place which is a bit of a waste of the space. 

Then I organised a couple of vollies to move the kittens in Incoming who came together from the same kitten rescuer but who had been in two small condos. I mistakenly had them put into the Play Place. Irene hoped they would go into the Enclosure where Chloe, P & B were. But that might have been a bit close for comfort,

We left Panda behind. He was in a single condo with two older kittens and has become very aggressive about food (because he had to fight for every mouthful). His condo mates, Bagheera and Rama now reunited with George, Samuel and Bear. Later this afternoon I could only see three black and one tabby kitten in the play place. The grey one has hidden himself somewhere. We did take them all there. 

More missing kittens: Two of Peaches kittens are back into Isolation from the vet. One is still there. Two died. Peaches has been moved to condo 6 which she doesn't like because the door is so noisy.

Valentine is also thriving. She will soon be as big as that pillow that we got when we had boarders next door over Christmas.

And Irene asked me to weigh Aziza's kittens. They are all too light to be desexed. But I took the opportunity to check their sexes.

Adom is a boy. He is the heaviest. And is ginger and white.

Adoption Tails: Gracie's litter

 These are the kittens of Gracie who is still on Better Row. And who escaped from her condo a week or two ago.

1 day: Gino is very cautious at the moment so the owners are doing what they can to help him feel safe. He has a room to himself and they regularly sit with him and talk with him. He has eaten, done a few wees but no poos yet. They'll get some treats for him later to encourage him to get comfy with them. The owner will be guided by Gino and how his comfort levels improve. They've tried playing with toys but Gino wasn't responding and it seemed like too much for the litter guy. He is responding quite well to being patted and overall affection. They will keep up with engaging in playtime to get him more comfortable at home.

1 week: He is definitely coming out of his shell. He is still staying in the safe room but the door is now left open for him to come out and explore.

No 1 month response

1 day: “Both of them may need a bit of time to settle in, but they are eating and drinking just fine! And yes, we will be renaming them”

1 week: “They settled in nicely.” Their owner was a little concerned at first but now, they’ve been running around confidently. They’ve also found a few unexpected hiding spots their owner never thought they could be in.

1.5 months: “They are much better, very cute. After I get home from work, they greet me at the door every day.”

Gemma, now Pantera

1 day: Gemma is now Pantera and is settling in. She’s eating and using the litter. She’s very shy and hiding in a little corner of the room but the owners talked and cuddled with her and she started playing with them. She’s so lovely!

1 week: Pantera is going very well. Plenty of appetite and improving her knowledge of the new home. Occasionally accepting cuddles, she's a nice princess.

1 month: Pantera was very shy and impossible to approach, the owner was worried for her but luckily she was eating normally. Every dark narrow spot was her place. A box, behind the printer or between furniture. Day after day, she explored the room and started to let the owners get a little closer. Now Pantera is their work companion and takes a nap on the sofa right next to the owner.

1 day: She has started to settle, started to pace around and getting playful.

1 week:  She's great, very playful now.

1 month: She's well and lovely. The owner has changed her name to Niki. She is lovely and likes to explore everything. Good company to the family, especially the daughter. They've been giving Niki tick treatment monthly and will register her soon.
