Adoption Tails: Maggie and her litter

 Maggie

4 days: Maggie has been under the bed in the spare room for 4 days. She is eating well, using her litter tray, and comes out at night to have her treats. Her owner talks to her and has a 5 minute playtime with a fluffy toy on a stick but she doesn’t respond. Her owner won’t be changing her name - Maggie has gotten to know her owner when she’s volunteering at SAFE. “I love her so much.”

1.5 weeks: Maggie comes out of her hiding spot since the toys are always in a different place. Maggie also finds the treats her owner hides in her room. She likes the water fountain and is eating well but isn’t coming out yet. Her owner spends time trying to entice her out with feather toys. Maggie’s owner heard all sorts of strange noises in the bedroom last night and saw it was Maggie exploring. Her owner walked into their bedroom and Maggie was lying on the bed. She became anxious when she felt cornered between her owner and the door. She meowed very sweetly and ran back to her safe room. “She is such a sweetie”. Maggie’s safe room has places for her to hide in - they're soft and fluffy and have dangly toys.

2 weeks: “Maggie is still under the bed. She came out yesterday when I took in her breakfast then looked at me gave a little meow and went back under the bed. I hate that she is so afraid.” Her owner was considering getting a little kitten to keep her company. “I even dream about her! I will be over the moon when she walks around and knows I will do anything for her.”

5 weeks: “I am delighted with her progress. She still likes to spend her day under the bed with various toys but explores and plays around the house at night. This morning I tried feeding her in the family room but she wasn’t comfortable there so went back to her usual spot. She lets me pat her, rub her ears and back and purrs so loudly. She is very talkative and constantly rubs against me. I haven’t tried picking her up for a cuddle. I think that is a long way off. She knows her name and is so sweet and loving. I adore her.”

Loki

1 day: He is settling in very well and is also very playful. He has been introduced to other rooms in the house because he constantly stood outside the door and he seems fine with it. He is eating and drinking well too. He had some problems with his litter box but is not using it.

1 week: Loki has been exploring his environment. He has moved out of his safe room and has started to explore the rest of the house. He is hesitant to snuggle with the family, but his owner thinks he needs more time for him to feel safe.

Loki, 1 week
1 month: His owners are struggling to cut his nails. They are getting very long and he accidentally scratches our family members. His owners have tried to cut them but he doesn’t stay still and always runs away.

7 weeks: They put a harness on Loki and he’s constantly trying to take it off himself. “He is also just a tiny bit sad.” His owners want to get him used to the harness because they plan on taking him for walks. They’ve also made sure that the harness is loose so he can breathe. “He was just very curious and every time we opened the door to go outside, he always wanted to come with us and stood there meowing and watching.”

Loki

2.5 months: “Everything with Loki is going very well.”

Atlas now Casper

1 day: “Atlas seems to be settling in very well to the safe room from what we've seen! Surprisingly he's been very affectionate and meows a lot when we leave the room. He is eating and drinking but usually only in small amounts (around half the bowl of food and water is normal). He's only used the litter twice since being brought home and I'm not sure if that's normal though. He's been a bit sneezy but not today thankfully. We are planing on renaming him but we're still deciding on a name.”

Atlas now Casper
1 week: Atlas has been renamed Casper. “We changed his litter to no dust a clumping anti crystal litter and he seems to be good with it. His mood has been a bit all over the place, sometimes he's super active and VERY attention seeking and at other time hes hiding under the bed. He can't have us away in another room without him else he meows/crys a lot (it's been so worrying I had to stay back a day from college, we're very tired).” His owner is very overprotective of him and just wants to make sure Casper is alright and they’re not doing anything wrong.

1.5 weeks: Casper has been having some flu symptoms. “He's suddenly become distant from us but wants our attention for something that's not pets, play, or food (very odd) even though his appetite is fine.”

2 weeks: “We've been observing him closely and I think Casper is fine now, his runny eyes and sneezing have greatly reduced. He's been exploring outside the room so much sometimes he sometimes doesn't want to go back at all! Although I do think he's still a bit frightened/stressed/bored at times. He's been running around the house a lot and being vocal and we still don't quite understand that he's after at times but overall I think he's ok.” He hasn’t been responsive to his new name and doesn’t play with any of the mental stimulation games they’ve given him. “He's becoming very curious about the outside”

1 month: no response

Roman

1 day: He is doing great. He has started exploring new rooms today. They will be keeping his name.

1 week: Roman is doing very well and has settled down. He is very happy and playful yet very vocal, just like their previous cat Chimney. “Roman is a blessing of happiness in our house and we love him immensely”.

Zaria now Mochi

1 day: She's doing well. She is eating, has had water and a wee. The family is keeping a close eye on her. The daughter has decided to name her Mochi, after a tasty little Japanese dessert! The family thinks she's doing really well considering the change. She's been super affectionate and cuddly. Mochi has a safe space under the bed but is spending most of her time out and about in the room with the daughter or dad.

1 week: She's going really well! Eating, drinking and toileting.

1 month: Mochi is doing so well. The family absolutely loves her. She's a very brave explorer and has a lot of confidence. She's energetic and very healthy. "We are very pleased to have her!"

Astra now Delilah

1 day: She’s doing well. She is eating very well and has used her litter tray to pee and poo. “She is finding comfort in her room”. She and their resident cat, Teddy, have been talking to each other through the door. She has been renamed Delilah.

1 week: She’s doing really well and is full of energy. “She is loving the company of our dog and cat. She’s fitting in very nicely.”

More kittens

Three tiny ones arrived and are in Incoming. No names no pack drill.

In the meantime, Sunny and Alexa are the lucky last ones next to the Big Kahuna. Alexa has just made it to desex weight so will be booked in asap. Her last remaining brother should be adopted sooner rather than later. She will be able to finish her own meals then. They have been moved to Lola's stand alone.

Sunny and Alexa
We pulled their enclosure away from the wall. What a lot of litter was under the walls! Now it has all been cleaned out. The hammocks (which the kittens were using as toilets) are in my washing machine. We sterilized it as well as could be and rehung the sheets. Then Irene moved Julie and Bassuria in. She did one cat at a time. Encouraged them into boxes and used the cardboard shields to keep them in the box while she gently carried them through a passageway formed of sheet covered Top Cat and similars.

Don't know why we worried. They behaved perfectly. I think Biggie and Mia will like their new neighbours.

Bassuria and Julie

Irene says that she has somebody interested in Gigi and Teddy as soon as they are available.

And another somebody interested in fostering PC because of the hand written sign on his condo:

Adoption Tails: Miz and Riley, Soybean, Mystic

Miz and Riley

1 day: “They seem to be settling in slowly. They are in our spare room with boxes to hide in. Miz seems more relaxed so far and Riley a little more on edge, although she has been purring. We’ve checked on them throughout the day and they’ve both come out of their boxes to say hello. Riley is scratching the door this evening. Miz has used the litter tray, I’m not sure about Riley yet. Both have had dinner this evening and been drinking. They were happy to do it in our presence.”

1 week: “They are settling in. We let them explore outside of the safe room on Monday and Miz has been the most settled so far. Riley is more settled today but less adventurous. They do seem to be relaxing a bit more. They both seem to be using the litter tray based on what I am clearing each day.”

5 weeks: “The cats are very much settled in, have a routine and their favourite sleeping spots. Riley has come to the fore and is much more confident than Miz. She enjoys a cuddle on the sofa each evening. She is very much a lap cat! We are a bit concerned about Miz. She continues to scratch her neck and under her chin and breaking the skin.” They have given her Felpreva but are wondering if she suffers from anxiety as well as allergies. “She is a bit more reserved but does love the itchy area being soothed and stroked. They both do appear ‘ravenous’ several hours before feeding time. They scratch our bedroom door every morning to get us up! They are indoor cats and don’t want them to be overweight”

 Soybean, now Winnie

1 day: She has been renamed Winnie. “She is doing incredibly well. She is very confident in her room and has not been hiding or scared at all. She is eating and drinking very well and has used her litter box multiple times.”

Winnie and TIg

1.5 weeks: “Winnie is an absolute champion and well and truly owns the whole house now. She loves playing with our two year old cat and they are getting on incredibly well. Their process has been a lot easier than we could’ve hoped.”

WInnie at 5 weeks

5 weeks: “Winnie is doing really well. She grown nicely and has settled in really well. Feels like she’s always been with us. She has a very loud meow to her still so small frame and loves playing with Tig. The cats get so much from each other’s company.”

Mystic, now Delphi

1 day: Mystic's new name is Delphi. She's been eating like a champion and pooped 3 times already! She spent the better part of the weekend in the bathroom and has the day to explore the attached bedroom, she seems to be pretty chilled.

1 week: Delphi had tapeworms and the meds has disrupted her bowel movements but besides that, she's going really well. Weeing and drinking a lot of water which is still positive She's exploring the apartment now. Super playful and mostly sleeps through the whole night. She's got her safe spot to go back to when she hears something unfamiliar. She's happy to take a scratch on the ear (even the belly) but she doesn't quite want to sit with the owners yet, they're sure it will come!

1 month: She's having a ball and so are the owners! She's got a stash of balls and xmas decorations under the ottoman in the bedroom! Delphi's out of her habit of piddling on the spare bed and is comfortable out on the balconies now so the owners are pretty chuffed. She will sleep when they're sleeping, except for the occasional ball bounce at 2 in the morning. "All in all very very happy cat owners!"

Coneless and happy

Not only was the Big Kahuna's cone off this afternoon. But the strap around his chest was gone too. He is out of the cone at last. And he is glad. I do wonder how long it will take his whiskers to loose their extra curl.

Coneless Biggie

At the other end of the spectrum of good looks we have PC who desperately needs to go to a foster home.
PC
And Finn, who has boarded with us before. His owner has taken up shaving him. And he is not happy.
Finn
Whereas, Robbie is getting happy after the indignity of being moved. (It has taken 3 weeks this move).

Robbie

Maggie, across the way seems happier too.

Maggie
And her neighbour Darcy is a delight. What about those whiskers!
Darcy

Boarders are pouring in. We will overflow to Dr Kim's again this Christmas. And boarders owners are dropping off Xmas gifts along with their cats!

Adoption Tails: Gracie's litter

These are the kittens of Gracie who is still on Better Row. And who escaped from her condo a week or two ago.

Gracie

 Gino

1 day: Gino is very cautious at the moment so the owners are doing what they can to help him feel safe. He has a room to himself and they regularly sit with him and talk with him. He has eaten, done a few wees but no poos yet. They'll get some treats for him later to encourage him to get comfy with them. The owner will be guided by Gino and how his comfort levels improve. They've tried playing with toys but Gino wasn't responding and it seemed like too much for the litter guy. He is responding quite well to being patted and overall affection. They will keep up with engaging in playtime to get him more comfortable at home.

1 week: He is definitely coming out of his shell. He is still staying in the safe room but the door is now left open for him to come out and explore.

No 1 month response

George & Gerald

1 day: “Both of them may need a bit of time to settle in, but they are eating and drinking just fine! And yes, we will be renaming them”

1 week: “They settled in nicely.” Their owner was a little concerned at first but now, they’ve been running around confidently. They’ve also found a few unexpected hiding spots their owner never thought they could be in.

1.5 months: “They are much better, very cute. After I get home from work, they greet me at the door every day.”

Gemma, now Pantera

1 day: Gemma is now Pantera and is settling in. She’s eating and using the litter. She’s very shy and hiding in a little corner of the room but the owners talked and cuddled with her and she started playing with them. She’s so lovely!

1 week: Pantera is going very well. Plenty of appetite and improving her knowledge of the new home. Occasionally accepting cuddles, she's a nice princess.

1 month: Pantera was very shy and impossible to approach, the owner was worried for her but luckily she was eating normally. Every dark narrow spot was her place. A box, behind the printer or between furniture. Day after day, she explored the room and started to let the owners get a little closer. Now Pantera is their work companion and takes a nap on the sofa right next to the owner.

Gwen now Niki

1 day: She has started to settle, started to pace around and getting playful.

1 week:  She's great, very playful now.

1 month
: She's well and lovely. The owner has changed her name to Niki. She is lovely and likes to explore everything. Good company to the family, especially the daughter. They've been giving Niki tick treatment monthly and will register her soon.
