Adoption Tails: Beans

 Beans

1 day: Beans is settling in very well. He has been eating all of his food immediately and has been regularly drinking and using the litter tray. He explored the carrier, ensuite, wardrobe, and then the bedroom. He’s very friendly, loves scratches and “has the most beautiful purr”. His owners used a pom-pom to play with him in the evening. He started chatting to them in the afternoon. He’s still very cautious of random noises but will come up to his owners for attention. He’s already very inquisitive, and comfortable and has been interested in the rest of the house.

Confidently exploring the house

2 and 3 days: They’ve been actively stopping him from walking out of his safe room so he definitely wants to explore. He’s been sleeping in the ensuite and is happy to stay there overnight. Beans wanted to explore so they let him wander through the living room. He explored it with healthy caution and is now very comfortable walking through the apartment. Beans met two family members and he was happy to be pet and have a play.
Leash training begins
1.5 weeks: Beans has had issues scratching spots on his neck. He went to the vet and has to wear a scarf for a week. He was very well-behaved at the vet. He’s now being a very cheeky boy sneaking into the kitchen when he knows he’s not allowed. He tried sitting at the table this morning to get a share of breakfast. Beans was very lucky that his patch was too low on his neck for a cone, so he has to wear a scarf instead.
A stylish bandana instead of a cone

1 month: He’s settled in really well! He’s still always looking for food and scoffs down anything he’s given but is otherwise very comfortable in and around the home. He’s absolutely adorable and they’ve been having fun exploring and training. They’re working on leash walking so he can get a little bit of supervised outdoor time. He’s still a bit nervous around new noises but enjoyed walking in the apartment stairwell. Beans is currently having a sleepover with their in-

laws. He had a practice visit last weekend and is settling in there nicely.

Nada adopted

After being with us for 16months, she deserves her own blog post.

Nada
She was adopted by a woman and her daughter who already have a 2 year old cat. The daughter fancied Amber or Helena but the mother wanted to "rescue" one of our older cats so focused, eventually on Beans and Nada.

Beans

Terry finalised the adoption at 6:15pm (as they didn't arrive until 4pm). And we are all so happy that he took the time for Nada. And I hope they change her name to Something.
Bye, bye Nada

And while we are talking of old friends: Irene sent a photo of Casper in her new home in Cooma. She comes when she is called and is a happy, outdoors cat.

Busy being Sandy

Today I was supposed to be Sandy in the afternoon but Catsie needed a lift to Safe so we went together early. We arrived before the Garbos and schlepped out all the poo bags. Thanks, Catsie. There were lots of volunteers which was a good thing because there was lots of work.

Catsie was put to work decorating Better Row where Boarders will go. The Naughty Row cats have all been moved next door to Dr Kim's. They liked the change last year. It will be interesting to see if they like it this year. Some may remember the change of scenery/venue (eg Melody). Catsie thought that she would be on light duties until she had a good look at the condos. Many needed a proper scrub (eg Melody's). But they all look clean and stylish now . . . Better.

Better Row
I moved one huge carrier to on top of the play place and pushed another into the space behind so that there is space for the boarder's carriers above the condos. I also tidied up the food shelves, again.

Joy had a distraction when home rang to ask if she had taken out her Mum's rubbish to the garbos. Of course she had. Unfortunately, her mum had tossed out her bottom denture plate with the burned toast. Joy managed to get her a first appointment for a replacement tomorrow. But Vi will be eating pureed Christmas dinner as it takes 4 visits to get a new plate made.

Margot with Joy
One of our vollie's gym coach arrived to adopt Margot. She is a strong looking woman. I also would have said "Of course, you can adopt her". But with Margot in her arms, she melted. She has a boy cat who roams all over her two storey house and two boy dogs who live downstairs. Margot will queen it over all of them.

Dexter was adopted over the weekend and Freya and Earl are in his stand alone. Beans has moved into Margot's condo next to Phantom who is getting to be a bossy boots. He cries until you let him run around.

Amber cries too. . . . for attention.

Amber
Juliette has been renamed Jane, just in case Romeo tracks her down when she gets posted again.
Jane
We do have a lot of dark cats who look good with bright toys.

LATE BREAKING NEWS

The plate was in Vi's dressing gown pocket all the time! Joy had to cancel tomorrow's emergency appointment. Vi may still have to eat pureed turkey on Sunday.

Yuki adopted this morning

Which leaves Chi Chi all alone in the condo. And already she is out of the carry case and eating chicken out of Rosanna's fingers! Yuki must have been dominating her.

And Lumi has gone from his foster home. Being a rag doll, even though a short haired rag doll, he didn't last long on the list.

And Archie is at Safe Haven rather than being in a foster home. He looked glum this afternoon.

Archie
Ginger (George) had a couple of wanders this afternoon.

Ginger's late wander
Earlier Beans was in a collapsible carrier on his way back from the vet. He had an eye removed and was looking quite sorry for himself until Ginger George wandered over and introduced himself gently. Beans is now where Margot was . . . on top of Joni and her four boys. (I was wrong. She is Joni (Mitchell) not Tina (Turner). But Katie has claimed "Tina" for the next wild child who comes in.)

It is a pity that Dexter never seems to get a turn. Even Opie had a go. and he was easy to entice back into his stand alone with TD's.

Dexter
I asked after Nancy's Sid who went to a foster home. It seems that he left the building quite soon afterwards and hasn't been seen much since. Wonder if he compares escape stories with Romeo?

I  am sure that the morning vollies cleaned Tibby and Tabby's condo this morning. But I also cleaned it  this afternoon. . . . twice. Tabby sure knows how to wreck the joint! She is also equipped with 20 very sharp claws that go in all directions. Rosanna required bandaging when she picked up Tabby. I tried to wrap her in a cloth to trim her nails and got slashed as well. We have decided that the vet can trim her nails when she is under anaesthetic next week to be desexed. We will just have to keep them short.

Another Ginger

There is a new Ginger, Beans in Incoming who looks and acts just like Ginger (George) who had a fine time in the play place yesterday demanding attention and head rubs. I wonder if they will become buddies.

Beans
There is another mother, Joni with 4 kittens behind a thick towel. No photo yet. But the "do not open" sign has been removed from Olga + 1.

not happy Olga + 1

I noticed that Amelia's top hammock has been used for a scratchy pole and needs repair so replaced it with one that is a little higher so that she cannot so easily hide on her right shelf.

Lola in the next stand alone, gave me a "hand" when I tied the back strings.

And Dexter's hammock seems to have stretched. I didn't disturb him.
Dexter

It was nice to see Sydney out in the late afternoon when it got quiet.

Shock news

Cathy went to the vet to have an ultrasound to see if she is pregnant. And it was discovered that she is a he and his undescended testes were removed. Hence the Elizabethan collar. And hence his outrage at being put into girl's gear.

Chris was Cathy
By a strange coincidence, I recently knitted a basset hound for my brother to give to his granddaughter on her first birthday, next week. I made some dresses for it and then some boys' clothes and eventually decided that their names are Cathy and Cagney depending on how they feel on the day.
Cagney with their bag packed ready to go

Cathy dressed for a walk
Back to the cattery:

Toby has one black whisker. He is the brother who hides under his bed. Finn had a bell on his collar but the collar has been removed. He is the one who is everybody's friend. Toby is friendly too and loves a tummy rub but would prefer to be under the bed. I gave him a bath mat to lie on down there.

Toby
Melody is back. She was thought to be pregnant so Steph took her home. She was not pregnant after all (the theme of the day) so now she is in Ashleigh's condo.
Melody
Schnitty went to the vet yesterday. Turns out that his eyelid was turned under so that his eyelashes were scratching his eye. He has had plastic surgery to turn the eyelid outwards. Not happy in a collar but loved the chicken.
Schnitty

Winnie and Quinn went for a vet check this afternoon. Quinn seems to have realized that her family is not going to pick her up. She is sad.

Winne is just glad to get away from Beans who was introduced to the family when she was over a year old and he wasn't desexed until he was going on a year old. He was feeling his hormones and she didn't appreciate the attention. Consequently she is sometimes friendly/sometimes growly. But always beautiful.

Ceiling cat grounded

On Saturday a Good Samaritan was decanting an adult cat from a cat trap into a lower condo in Incoming. The cat took one look around and shot heavenwards. It climbed up the face of the condos and leaped at the light. . . which moved a bit so the cat could squeeze into the ceiling space. And there it stayed until today. Various ceiling tiles had been left open so that the cat could get to bowls of food left on the top of condos or wheely cages. I was told to check all food bowls and then under and behind everything just in case the cat had come down from the ceiling and not made it back up again. I couldn't find any trace of a loose cat.

In the afternoon Tim dropped by to check the trap that he had put in the ceiling space. There was the cat and an empty bowl. Tim said he went into Jasper's condo without a peep.

Jasper
Perhaps all the excitement in the morning watching me crawl around peering under things is what drew Sarah out of her burrito wrapping. Isn't she pretty! Much to pretty to be wrapped up and spitting.
Sarah

There were 65 (counting ceiling cat) cats in residence this morning. That may have been the reason that I had 15 bags of rubbish to distribute among the bins along the street. There are three more this afternoon because one of our foster carers brought in her three "kittens". She has developed a gas leak in her apartment and has to vacate it for at least 3 days while they fix it. Poor Michelle has to go to the Sebel Townhouse! She insisted that I write a condo card to say that Lily, Luna and Inky are not for adoption. They belong to her. They are her babies and sleep on her bed. She will be back for them as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Ebony has gone to the foster home where Diego was. Diego was a bit much for his fosterers. He is in boarding row and has chewed the top off Doel's cardboard house.

There are some lovely surrenders. I may find out their stories later.

Flynn and Toby are identical except that one sleeps on the upper level where he is ready to smooch with anybody who opens his door.

Flynn/Toby
And his ?brother sleeps under the bed that is big enough for two down below.

Toby/Flynn
Beans is another lovely ginger where Blacky was.
Mr Bean
And Winnie is a loving tortie where Ganda was. (I had an aunt Winsome but I don't think that anybody ever called her Winnie).

Winnie
