Moving kittens

Six kittens arrived this afternoon with black robed girls. One was thought to have possibly had ringworm. It was inspected and passed inspection so all were accepted.

In anticipation white mother (Lily) and her the kittens (3 ginger/whites and two white) had been moved to an enclosure in  Welfare. As soon as they are desexed they will be adopted. The 4 boys will go quickest.

The new kittens need names. They already have much better manners than the previous lot.

Cordelia's kittens are out of the sleeping box all the time now. They need names too.

Cordelia's kittens

Cordelia looks a bit sick of being a mum.

Cordelia
While Yahtzee is still looking after most of her kittens with Tim's help with the little tabby. They need names too.

Aziza's Aki was desexed and is in the condo next to Cordelia. Don't know where Panda is.

I moved Tank to where Alaska was, he has been adopted. Irene moved his mum Lilli  and got scratched.
Aimee who I moved earlier to the condo above will have fun downstairs neighbours.

Gracie on high

When I arrived at noon there was a great kerfuffle because Gracie had jumped out of her condo and retreated to the heights. I kept out of the way because there were plenty of vollies being directed by Irene. They caught her in a box (a favourite tool of Irene's) but when they went to put her back into her condo she took off again for the heights!

Gracie on Wednesday
The second capture was more efficient and she was soon back. By the time chicken came around she was behaving normally (for her). I hope she doesn't make this a regular Friday afternoon exercise.

The woman who adopted Midnight last weekend brought him back for his vaccination and to adopt his sisters Lily and Forget Me Not. She said "If two kittens is better than one kitten, then three kittens are better yet!" Midnight has been renamed Lunar and is a very relaxed kitten. Or maybe he was just stonkered to be back with his sisters. Lily didn't have a microchip even though Tim said that he gave her one. The vet around the corner checked her with his machine. None. So he added another. Let's hope that she doesn't now have two.

And the woman came to adopt Harper. She will pick her up tomorrow when the workmen have moved out of her place and Harper can settle in undisturbed. And Clyde was adopted yesterday.

Camille was being charming when I cleaned out the condo below her that  Forget me not and Lily were in for a few days. Irene took notes and got a good photo so that Camille can go on the for adoption list. She is a lovely cat.

Joy took photos of 5 of the 6 kittens in the play place on Wednesday.

I'll try to add their names next week. Ginger Roger and her kittens have settled into the stand alone in Incoming happily. She is a very friendly cat. Evidently she wandered into an appartment in a western suburb. The old man there was happy. She made herself at home but after a few weeks disappeared for a few days. Then she brought in her kittens, one at at time. All gingers. The man is quite old and not well so couldn't look after them. I doubt we will have any problems getting them homes.

Adoption Tails: Mickey, Lily and Patch

 Mickey

Mickey at Safe

1 day: He's going really well, just started eating and exploring.

1 month: He's very well, very settled.

Patch and Lily

2 days: They are both settling in quite well. Patch is a bit more adventurous and is already sitting on their owners’ knees. Patch is eating well and has used the litter tray but they haven’t seen Lily eat or use the litter tray. Lily is still hiding and goes straight back to her hiding place when they pick her up. They think it will take longer for Lily to settle in but are happy to wait until she’s ready.
Patch aka Patty
3 days: Patch (who has been nicknamed Patty) is quite happy running around. She loves cuddles and voluntarily jumps onto their knees and settles down if their owners tap their lag. Lily is still shy and loves to hide behind the curtains or in her cat box in their safe room. They leave their safe room door open so they can come and go whenever they wish. “They are two beautiful cats with very gentle dispositions no biting or scratching. We are very much in love with them already”

Lily
5 days
: They are making great progress with Lily. She has responded very well to her owners and is now coming voluntarily on their knees for cuddles. They both still have their safe room to go to if they wish, and they put them in there at bedtime so they feel safe. Their owner has also started building a cat podium for them both.

9 days: Their cat podium has been finished. Patty is happy playing and Lily has claimed her space in the hidey hole.
Patty plays, Lily is safe inside the box

1 month: They are both fine and settled in very well. Patty now goes outside on her own through the cat flap but Lily is not brave enough yet. “She needs more time.” Patty does not go outside at night as they lock the cat flap. They live on the top floor of a 4-storey building and have a large terrace with plenty of space to play in. Both cats are very safe as they do not have any contact with other cats. “They are 2 beautifully
natured cats and we love them to bits”. It took 1.5 hours for the owners to register them both at the council.

Filling the vacuum

When cats get adopted, condos get vacated and new cats appear to fill the gaps.

In Incoming we have, with no known history (to me... . . so far). He is so upset that he didn't even eat his chicken.

The Sheikh

Kitty has been there for a few days is and is relaxing a little bit.

Kitty (ate her chicken)
Angie has been around for a fortnight and is getting bold.

And Lily is relaxing at last.

There are two kittens where the R kittens used to be. I don't think they are related.

The last two R kittens were taken home today despite one infected eye. They are currently "foster to adopt" status. As soon as the eye is all well they will belong to their enthusiastic new mum. Not a chance that she will decide not to adopt them.

In Isolation we have Soybean who was in Incoming and went to the vet to be desexed and they diagnosed ringworm and sent her back, unfixed. . .. or him. I couldn't get an in focus photo because dinner (after being not fed breakfast and ignored at lunchtime because there was nothing written up on the wall) was more important than posing.

Soybean

There was one straight forward adoption today. Pino Nero  was chosen by a man whose flat mate has moved out and has taken his cat with him. Our adopter was so bereft that his daughter brought him to us to "fill the gap in his life".

Lily and Patches gone

The nice couple came yesterday to adopt them. Even Tim agreed that they are nice people. But he didn't give them the round hidey hole that Lily lived in for the first month that she was with us. It is worn to tatters now and would hardly have been a pleasant gift to get. But Lily would have been comforted by its familiarity.

I cut off the worst of the shredded covering cloth, cleaned it, gave it a good spray and put it into their Enclosure, in memorium, so to speak.

A woman and her wheelchair pusher came to visit some cats because Jiji's, the cat cafe on Eastern Valley Way, area for wheelchairs is in the open and the weather was not conducive to sitting outside today. They wheeled out the back and I immediately put Harry on her lap. They were both delighted and had a good pat and cuddle. He is such a tolerant cat.

But later, when he wanted food, he showed his loud side. And when he got out of his condo and wanted into the main cattery, he showed his determined side. Such a character.

Talking of which, Betty has been in the stand alone by the door. She tries to engage every person who walks through the door. I thought perhaps she wanted to play rather than just wanting more food. So I put up the Top Cat straight-wise, wheeled her stand alone into that area and had a vollie try to entice her out with a wand toy. No way was Betty going to go out of her stand alone, thank you. She might have for food, though. I gave up eventually and pushed her back to where Cooper was. She can watch other cats wander around and play. And Cooper can be the door warden when he is not sitting on his poof under the computer desk.

Later I let Pebbles and Sebastian into the Top Cat. On Wednesday they were very reluctant to venture out of their condo. This afternoon they came straight out and started to play.

Pebbles and Sebastian
The only other photo I took was of Barry and Blaze. They looked so comfy on a newly warmed up hot water bottle. Wonder what happened to the hotty cover?
Barry behind Blaze
A family (Mum, Dad and teenaged daughter) came to look at kittens. Luckily they rather fancied champagne kittens. They wanted to compare Ryan's colouration with Josh's. So we let Ryan walk in front of their condo. . . in the gutter. They all enjoyed that. The family has gone home to think about it and check out the foster kittens. Irene says that we have even more champagne kittens almost ready to be uploaded.

Today's two

I was late again today because of DH's eye jabs. Thanks Sharon for feeding the breakfasts. And to Catsie for schlepping out some poo bags even though she put them in an already emptied Willoughby bin. I decanted them into our bins which are in the basement now. And filled the Cousins bins. Don't know if they had been emptied already today. I will find out on Friday if they are still full.

One of our vollies is being trained to be an animal carer and needed to be videotaped while playacting as a vet assistant talking about the diseases that you can get from being licked by a dog. I was horrified! So many worms. Not to mention bacteria and viruses! The script did not mention that the dog should be  treated with worming medication so I added that to her script.

Then an English accented couple arrived to look for a cat. They have always had long lived cats and decided when the last cat died that that was the last one. But after a year or so, they miss having a cat in their lives. They brought a 10 year old cat with them when they emigrated to Oz who lived to be 21 years old.

When they arrived, Cooper was wandering around. Turns out the first cat their  son adopted was called Cooper because he had another cat called Mini and loved the car! When Mini died he acquired a cat called John. So I thought our Cooper was a sure shoe in. But they liked Lily and Patches. We went around everybody. They like a pair of cats and not too young. We have lots like that. But they liked Lily and Patches. They needed to go home just to really decide and see what equipment they still have at home. Later this afternoon, they rang and said that they REALLY want Lily and Patches and will come in tomorrow (from Redfern) or Friday to take them home. Hurrah!

Lily and Patch
Michelle who volunteered with us a year or two ago came to pick up a scratchy pole because she is going away on holiday and needs stuff for her cats to be entertained with by her house sitter while the family is away. She also took photos of cats that her daughter might like. . . . but won't decide about until they get back from holiday.

And another couple arrived at 4pm to look at our cats. They didn't know about our website so I pulled it up, they took a photo of the url and after a quick look around at the availables said they would look at the website and come back soon. Plus, she said she was interested in volunteering.

It was hard to find time to feed the cats let alone to take any photos. Here are some from last week. Yin and Yang haven't moved since then.

It was pointed out to me today by a vollie that Bassuria has some nasty looking lesions on his side. I noticed Julie licking him last week.

Two is better than one

On Wednesday, Irene advised me not to adopt a fostered kitten Mark to a man if he showed up because the fosterer didn't think he would be a good parent for Mark. Luckily he didn't show up. But today a nice woman and her daughter (who works with a vet) turned up to adopt Mark. On the assumption that they were quite different people I went ahead because they looked as though they would be grand owners. Later Irene turned up and agreed with my judgment.

So Mark is off the "for adoption" list. But Florence was still there. Strange. The enclosure was empty on Wednesday. This afternoon a woman who had visited on Sunday and liked Florence returned to adopt her. "Sorry" says I "she's gone." So we looked at other black and white cats and kittens. Earlier I had let out Cooper for a wander. He ended up on the poof under the computer. I had just put him back (to have some chicken) before she arrived. So I got him out and he settled happily on her knee. Trouble is that her son wants a kitten. Sooty might suit he has got so big. Either way, she spent lots of time with a cat on her lap to test whether or not she is allergic to cats (still). And Tim removed Florence from the for adoption list.

Sooty
Sooty's new neighbours are Derek and Hansel. They intertwine.

Hansel and Derek
Tonight Harley and Quin will have a night out in the Top Cat. Jake and Josh will be so jealous.

While Lily and Patch look on.

I think we should have a two for one special in June and July.

Foster In and Out

Cindy Clawford's fosterer brought her and her kittens in today. They are all available for adoption and all very friendly so Terry will probably clear them all out tomorrow!

Patch and Lily next door were not impressed until I installed a brand new, un-sat on by any other cat hammock which got Patch's seat of approval.

Mariko came by, rather sodden by the weather, in the afternoon to collect Valentina to take home to foster. Mariko is an angel.

Geoff demonstrated how he has befriended Tommy.

First prop open his flap with the PVC pipe

Then offer head scratches with the long handled fork

Eventually, Tommy accepts pats by hands

Rory and Little are back in the play place. The boarders that I left there on Wednesday have gone home.

Shortest stay at the Safe cattery

I arrived around noon and Chewy, Joda, Leia and Luke just beat me. They came from a foster home. By 4pm Leia had been adopted! The lady who met her in her foster home decided that she was needed in her home.

Luke and Leia

Chewy and Joda
They are next door to Lily and Patches who do not like to be able to see their neighbours. New or otherwise.

Lily and Patches
The kittens got a scratchy pole inserted into their condo when Geoff arrived. So we had to move them into the play place. Inserting a stratchy pole means that the whole enclosure needs to be moved, rescrewed, re curtained, and replaced. I imagine that the kittens will stay in the play place overnight.

Martin had a turn there and was really happy running around and sitting with/on any visitors. He is a real sweety when out of the stand alone.

But the best news of the day is that Molly was adopted. A young woman came to meet our cats. We spent time saying hello to everybody. I thought that she was just doing a recee but after talking to Irene and getting Molly's background, she called her partner and said "I WANT HER". FIV, no teeth and all. Mind you, Molly behaved beautifully with her so it must have been a match made in heaven.

And late this afternoon Betty gave birth. When I left there were perhaps 5 wee slugs. There may be more by morning. I didn't like to disturb her so she missed out on afternoon tea but I imagine that Geoff gave her a good dinner.

Hammock havoc

On Wednesday I wondered why Mia's top shelf was on the balcony and her hammocks were gone. Tim told me today that she seemed to be stuck on the top shelf and couldn't get down. Subsequently, she had pee'd and poo'd up there. That is why it was drying out on the balcony.

Also on Wednesday, Robyn brought in a cat igloo that her Charlie had jumped on the top of and collapsed. We decided that if it was that frail it wouldn't cope with our cats, flattened it and put it in the recycle paper bin. Today it was still there so I re-erected it and gave it to Mia. It took her about a minute to settle into her pineapple.

Mia well camouflaged on a black blankie
I also reinstalled her top shelf lower down.

Mrs Claws and co are all desexed and ready to go. They love their hammocks so I gave them more.

Still not enough hammocks but some kittens should get adopted this weekend.

Patches uses her hammock. I knew that because it is covered in hair. I managed to grab their black igloo while they were both out if it and got another two kitten's worth of fur from inside it. Later, Lily was on the top shelf looking longingly at Patches in the rectangular hammock. When I placed her on the triangular one, she stepped, regally, back onto the shelf.

Cassie is slowly coming around to being away from her foster home. She is said to love cuddles, but she is a bit hard to reach.

And Martin has come in from a foster home and is upset too.
