More names needed

 I got to the cattery before the Willoughby collection. So gleefully planned schlepping out bags to fill others bins. But, the trolley was obstructed by boxes and bags of litter so I decided that I would wait for the Cousins bins. Which we did before lunch. And the Willoughby bins were still not emptied. They were by the time that I left. But even though the store room had been somewhat cleared, I decided not to get out the trolley into the pouring rain. Sorry tomorrow. There are bags on the balcony.

We had 3 lots of adopters this afternoon. One couple came to adopt Bear. They had been in on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Initially they wanted George because he is grey like their previous, much beloved cat. But George is Shy and Bear is liquidly loving. They did the paperwork despite a computer malfunction. They will collect him on Monday because they are going away this weekend.

The next couple had been before as well. They are in love with Ryan of Lilly's litter in Enclosure 3 (the one out of which 5 kittens explode at every meal time). But somebody else has bagsed him . . . if we have the correct kitten. They don't have microchip numbers in the computer so it is difficult to tell them apart from the tiny photos. This couple will return.

The final couple came to look at George. Of course Bear came up for cuddles. I showed them other kittens. They were entranced. I showed them adults. They were enthusiastic. They decided that an adult would suit them better and had trouble deciding between Shadow and Luma. Shadow was very friendly.

But Luna was loving. So they chose her. Done! I think it is a very good match for all three of them.

In the meantime, Claire took photos and videos in Incoming. She has named the six fluffy kittens in the stand alone:

Fluffy tabby (white diamond): Choux

Fluffy tabby with white moustache: Souffles (with a grave on the e)

Fluffy tabby: Mont Blanc

Fluffy tabby with left beauty spot: Brulee

short hair tabby: Kingston

tabby, short hair and orange: Monte Carlo

 The last kitten is probably a calico so is female. Perhaps she can be Monte Carla.

 Peache's kittens are all well and have moved to Incoming to Shadow's condo. They don't quite know how to jump up the levels. They are used to scrambling up the wires of the stand alone or swinging up the hammocks. They need Peachy names.

Aziza's girl kittens have been desexed. So next weekend should be a bumper adoption weekend. And there is still an Adom.

Adophion Tails: Josie's kittens and Rubia & Ryan

 Josh aka Remi

2 days: Josh is settling in very well. He is already curious and exploring around the house. He is eating well, drinking well, and using the litter tray regularly. He has a safe spot in their daughter’s bedroom and likes to stay in there when they are not home. He is a very playful kitten and is always purring and running around. His owners are considering renaming him Remi which they think suits him very well.

1.5 weeks: Remi’s doing well! He no longer hides under their bed and is always playing with his toys. He has been more confident and plays in every room in the house.

1 month: “Remi’s grown a lot since we first saw him”. He’s getting much happier with his new family than he was in the beginning. He’s still eating well too.

Jake aka Jack

1 day: no response

1 week: no response

18 days: “Jack is very comfortable here” and brought his family good happiness. 

1 month: “Everything goes well. Very busy and very funny with the new family member.”

Rubia aka Maple

1 day: She is settling in really well. She only hid under her owner’s bed for an hour. After she popped out, she became immediately affectionate with her owner. “I was really surprised with how fast she opened up to me. I still think she is taking in her surroundings and getting used to things, but I’m really excited to see how she progresses.” She has been eating all of her food and drinking. She has used her litter box a few times to pee but has not gone poo yet. 

4 days: She seems to be sneezing a lot and her owner noticed her eye is red and swollen after coming back from work. Her owner has settled on renaming her Maple. 

5 days: Her eye seems better so she must’ve had something stuck in it. She is still sneezing fairly frequently with a lot of clear discharge. She also seems less energetic. 

2 weeks: no response

1 month: Maple is doing very well and she has settled in comfortably. She loves to sit on top of me in the mornings and stare at me until I wake up.” Every day, she brings all of her toys downstairs while her owner is at work, and in the evenings, she brings them all back up to her owner’s bed one by one. Her owner thinks she has learnt she gets a piece of kibble every time. “She seems to be very motivated by food, even when I’m eating and cooking she gets very curious.”

Ryan aka Prince - no photos

3 days: He is “eating like a horse” and is using the litter tray. He is generally enjoying the house and has bonded with his owner’s daughter. He has been renamed Prince.

1 week: no response

1 month: Prince is going well. He is very playful and eats well. He loves playing and his favourite toy is a ping-pong ball. “I am a mere provider of meals to him at the moment (I’ve always been around cats, but for some reason Prince just ignores me) but he loves my daughter and wife. He sleeps on my daughter’s lap.”

Consequences

 Because Jake and Josh got adopted their condo became available for Liam. 

Because Liam moved away from his "mother",  she promptly dropped another kitten in Incoming! I didn't get a photo. The kitten is too small and mum looks plump enough to have other kittens still to come.

Because Ryan and Luna got adopted (separately), Hansel and Derek moved into the front door stand alone and had a wonderful time in a space 6 times, at least, as big as their condo in Incoming.

Because Queen Victoria got adopted, Pickles was moved into her condo. He wasn't really pleased but I think he will enjoy watching other cats more than watching food.

So that means there are 3 empty condos on Better Row. Irene won't be able to resist that for long. She has 11 cats/kittens at her house.

And because a previous adopter dropped by few weeks ago to visit the cats and admire the hammocks I have two big bags of fabric scraps to make into hammocks. She was in the business of making face masks during Covid and has lots of left-overs.

And because an ex-vollie was collecting bedding for charity, she thought of us and rang to ask if we needed any fitted sheets. . . . no, thank you; blankets. . . . . no thank you; towels. . .. yes! please!

And, because we were busy I didn't get out my camera so here is an old photo of Dexter who made a dash for freedom during his condo cleaning. His cleaner was too wary of getting bitten to pick him up. But he is very good for me. . . . famous last words?

 The nice couple came yesterday to adopt them. Even Tim agreed that they are nice people. But he didn't give them the round hidey hole that Lily lived in for the first month that she was with us. It is worn to tatters now and would hardly have been a pleasant gift to get. But Lily would have been comforted by its familiarity. 

I cut off the worst of the shredded covering cloth, cleaned it, gave it a good spray and put it into their Enclosure, in memorium, so to speak.

A woman and her wheelchair pusher came to visit some cats because Jiji's, the cat cafe on Eastern Valley Way, area for wheelchairs is in the open and the weather was not conducive to sitting outside today. They wheeled out the back and I immediately put Harry on her lap. They were both delighted and had a good pat and cuddle. He is such a tolerant cat.

But later, when he wanted food, he showed his loud side. And when he got out of his condo and wanted into the main cattery, he showed his determined side. Such a character.

Talking of which, Betty has been in the stand alone by the door. She tries to engage every person who walks through the door. I thought perhaps she wanted to play rather than just wanting more food. So I put up the Top Cat straight-wise, wheeled her stand alone into that area and had a vollie try to entice her out with a wand toy. No way was Betty going to go out of her stand alone, thank you. She might have for food, though. I gave up eventually and pushed her back to where Cooper was. She can watch other cats wander around and play. And Cooper can be the door warden when he is not sitting on his poof under the computer desk.

Later I let Pebbles and Sebastian into the Top Cat. On Wednesday they were very reluctant to venture out of their condo. This afternoon they came straight out and started to play.

The only other photo I took was of Barry and Blaze. They looked so comfy on a newly warmed up hot water bottle. Wonder what happened to the hotty cover?

A family (Mum, Dad and teenaged daughter) came to look at kittens. Luckily they rather fancied champagne kittens. They wanted to compare Ryan's colouration with Josh's. So we let Ryan walk in front of their condo. . . in the gutter. They all enjoyed that. The family has gone home to think about it and check out the foster kittens. Irene says that we have even more champagne kittens almost ready to be uploaded.

 Lola seems to have accepted her new, smaller stand alone. She does spend all of her time in Opies room except for a foray into her standalone if her breakfast is not delivered to her there. So her erstwhile larger stand alone is now occupied by Rubia and Ryan. Ryan has been desexed and is ready to go. Rubia needs a vet check etc. They only had one hammock and Ryan slept in it all day with Rubia on a hard shelf. I took pity on her and installed a second hammock. Which he promptly claimed.

I also changed Mia's narrow hammock for a wider one. I've never seen her using the narrow one. But soon after I installed the wider one. . . . . sorry about the silly camera which focuses on the foreground, but you get the idea.

There were scads of volunteers so the work got done early and every cat that wanted a cuddle got one. Yin and Yan actually ate their breakfast so I spent time with them and was rewarded with purrs and nudges for more. They are sweet cats.

Helen came to help this afternoon. She wanted Meatball to have time out. And he had a fabulous time chasing a ping pong ball. . . . and careening into bits of furniture. The expression on his face was just like that on the sticker cat on Tim's filing cabinet.

We let Cooper out for a wander early in the afternoon. He went around introducing himself gently to the other cats and settled on the odd person's lap. He spent lots of time on the shelf on the back wall of Welfare communing with Raya (or is it Raven). Everything went well. Until it came to feeding time and he wasn't in his stand alone (Charlie had been there earlier). After a search I found him on the poof under the front desk. Sensible cat.
