Adoption Tails: Cindy, Rebecca, Oliver, Janet

 Here are the follow ups for a litter of kittens who did not get a group name and no mother with them.

Cindy, now Pepperoni (6764)

1 day: She has been great! Eating/drinking and using the litter tray well. She loves scoffing her food down. The owners will change her name to Pepperoni.

1 week: Pepperoni is going well and her gunky eye is pretty much all gone now.

Note: she was originally adopted along with Akio but eventually came back to SAFE care before being adopted out again.

 Oliver (6766)

1 day: Oliver is settling in really well. He is eating both wet and dry food and water that is offered. He uses his litter tray with no problems. He comes and sits with the owner when she visits him in his room and is a real purr machine who loves tummy rubs.

1 week: He is the best! He loves playing with his toys and feathers. He comes out for snuggles on the couch with the boys and is not timid with them at all. He really fits the family perfectly! The boys love him so much and really enjoy when Oliver gives them nose kisses and they all like it when he comes out for zooming play time. They think he is the funniest!

1 month: He is honestly the most perfect cat for us! He is enjoying being able to roam and explore the family's little home and has found his favourite sunny spot by the window. He is super affectionate and loves playing with the boys (and mum's knitting!).

Janet - now Ruby

3 days: “She is adorable”. On her first day, she hid the whole day and only came out at night to eat, use the litter box and play. Her second day was much better as she slept on the end of her owner’s bed at night. During the day, she slept in an open tree house and didn’t hide at all. She is eating very well and plays a lot, especially at night. “She lets us pet and go near her but still hasn’t let her guard down sometimes she runs away when we suddenly go near her.” They have renamed her Ruby but she hasn’t responded yet. She purrs a lot when they pet her. “We are very happy and excited hope she is happy with us as well”

5 days: “She roams all around the house now”. She has been window gazing this morning

1 week: “She is very comfortable”. Her owners say she’s “been amazing” and let them give her a hygiene trim today. 

1 month: “She is doing great. she doesn’t even wake up when we walk very close to her while sleeping.” She was lethargic last week and her owners knew something was wrong. They took her to the vet immediately and found out that she had a slight fever, which she was given an injection for. Her fever was gone by the evening and she started playing again. “She is adorable, doesn’t ask for anything and very intelligent, learned everything so quickly. She sleeps with me with her head in my arms now. we are very happy to have her as a part of our family, thank you to you all”

 Irene was horrified to find the "new" stratchy pole that Lola loved to loiter on was covered with her hair and her upchucks. Irene moved it into the corridor to give it a good cleaning in the hope that somebody will buy it. Lola wandered around looking lost. She climbed into the bookshelf and sat with the Safe hats for a while but eventually retreated to ground level. No nose bumps there.

It was a very quiet afternoon. The most exciting thing was when the wooden, crate-like carrier was picked up, at last. And a pair of boarders were transferred to a fosterer to take home. 

Although when I was handing out chicken (thank you Catsie, the cats loved your crispy chicken skin) I noticed a black cat waiting for me in the Welfare area . . . . not confined. On investigation it turned out to be Mia. How did she get out? With chicken in my hand she was easy enough to get back in. 

Sesame is settling in but doesn't like us yet (or my chicken).

There is an new cat come in from foster in Rebecca's condo. He is Simba and is confused.

Mums and bubs are doing well except that Whitney prefers to spend most of her time in her upper bed box where the little suckers can't get at her. They happily eat baby food. We think she must come down to feed them when she is ready.

A big boy needs a big carrier

 When I arrived around 11:30 there were two adoptions happening.

The first was Kit who was chosen, after a lot of discussion, by a family of at least 5 boys (perhaps some were friends) and two parents. They had brought with them one of the smaller cat carriers: kitten sized. Not Kit sized. They tried to say that he would go in and it would be inconvenient for them to come so far back again if they borrowed a carrier. But after Kit demonstrated that he would NOT go into that shoebox, they were convinced to borrow one of our largest carriers. Tim did the deed and they carried him off. I am sure they will all be very happy. Let us hope that none of the boys develop an allergy to cats which is what happened at his last home.

And a pair of girls came to adopt Sooty. Rosanna sent them and rang later to confirm that they actually turned up. 

So there was a spare condo which got speedily cleaned and I was asked to move Cuddlepie into it. Now, Cuddlepie has never acted true to name to me. So I invited Tim to do the deed. They struggled on the floor for a while before Tim got a good hold on her and afterwards he retired to tend his wounds. (My tearable skin would have been tattered).

And a mum and daughter turned up to discuss fostering Stardust with Irene. They had a lovely meeting with him and have gone home to think about it. 

Meanwhile Rebecca came back from the home she went to last Wednesday. Via a vet where she was abandoned on Wednesday. She was so happy to be back with us. Friendliest she has ever been.

She and The Sheik had a lovely chat while The Sheik was in the Top Cat later on.

We have new front door "kittens": Felipe and Nix. They are shy. Perhaps they should be moved to an area with less traffic.

It was nice to see Aspen rolling around in her condo this afternoon. She was excessively shy when she first came to us.

 He had to move Mickey into PC's condo because PC has moved onto Better Row as he is under closer veterinary scrutiny. Mickey didn't like the look of me when I suggested a move to him. So Tim picked him up and ran with him from Incoming to Welfare. Mickey quite likes his new digs which are more spacious.

And Tim had to do a similar trick with The Sheik who would not be picked up by anybody else to move into Rebecca's double condo. He has gone into the sulks again.

Rebecca was adopted this afternoon along with Akio by a young lad who NEEDED a pair of cats today and the one that he had chosen was adopted yesterday from foster. They will have to settle in separately but the family has space and Akio will adapt in no time at all and will keep the kid entertained over the school holidays. 

Paul, who was above Rebecca on Wednesday, was adopted yesterday. His condo is now occupied by Rochelle who is a very friendly champagne so she will probably go this weekend.

Taking about "friendly" . . . Stardust has had a change of personality. He now loves everybody. He has amazingly long whiskers which he needs because he is so fluffy as well as roundish. (Not overweight, of course.)

And as the Play Place was empty, I moved Kit there. He is such a big cat and is used to being out of doors. His condo is still his (for the moment).

But the treat of the day was Lola's toes. She came to supervise me when I ate my lunch.

 I didn't find time to dig out my camera, again. There were some great photo opportunities too. Like when Rebecca was trying to get Paul to come out to play in the Top Cat. (He couldn't get out of course, but it didn't stop her asking.)

Paul had two interested parties today. One, a father and daughter who lost the last of their 3 20year old-ish cats 6 months ago are ready for another cat (or two). He liked Paul under strict instructions from his wife to choose a ginger. And she liked The Sheik who has got used to his new digs and just loves people. They will return.

Another couple arrived and eventually settled on Paul but they don't have definitive permission from their corporate body to have a cat. They will get that as fast as possible and come in tomorrow at 10am to snaffle him.

They considered Sooty and Ivy but Paul was on form today.

Chelsea had her kittens overnight. One was very dead this morning. Possibly born dead. I had to be very sneaky to remove it. I put her breakfast outside her bedbox on the upper shelf and waited until she went to get it. Then I quickly closed her round door to keep her out of the bedroom while I did a quick clean up. The three remaining kittens are all black.

 The potential adopter rang on Wednesday to tell us that he intended to come to get her on Thursday. He has had lots of discussions with his partner and Irene about how shy Joni is and how they have another shy cat so know not to expect anything very soon. And, sure enough, he came on Thursday and did the deed! I hope they are all happy together. 

Fiona (from Isolation) has been moved into her condo. She has been cleared from ringworm (I assume).

And Tigger from Incoming moved into the stand alone by the door. Didn't like being moved. Doesn't like where he is (directly opposite Big Kahuna). But he will get used to it.

Stardust was making love/chirrups to visitors this afternoon. One lass comes regularly to socialize on a Friday afternoon. And one of our enthusiastic cat fosterers came in (with a bag of clean washing) to spend time. She said that she is attracted to the difficult cats. Stardust must have had her pegged!

I put Rebecca in the Top Cat. She was a happy cat. We can't decide if she is a tortie or a racoon. Her colouring is DRAMATIC when seen from the side.

I did one adoption for a foster cat, Luna, in  Dee Why. She will be picked up tomorrow and they are already planing on teaching her how to walk with a harness and to be bonded with their other cat.
