New hammocks

Last week Katrina brought in her mum's old quilt for me to make into hammocks. I did that over the weekend because Katrina intended to come back in today to pick up the painting of cats she bought from us last year some time. And she was going to bring her mum. So I put up some of the hammocks downstairs in the hope that the cats would smile at the visitors.

Only Katrina came. And she was delighted. Roxie posed so beguilingly on her new hammock thata Katrina may just adopt her.

She also fancied Cindy. Who liked her back and performed very well despite not having any hammocks in her condo. Katrina will return.

Salt and Pepper got one of the new hammocks as well. (They have been using theirs since we moved to Mona Vale and they were dirty.)

Truffles and Oreo love their hammocks.

Bree, not so much.

I found time to brush Teddy. For a very black cat, it is surprising how grey the brushings are from him.

Teddy has been moved downstairs into Bassuria's enclosure. Bass has been fostered-to-adopt. Hurrah!

A bath

Bella's surviving 3 kittens got a bath this afternoon. They had been moved out of the littertray where they has been since their birth ?3 weeks ago. And put into a towel lined littertray with their mum. All was going well except on Monday they stank from being in with poo. Hence the bath.

First they were weighed.

Then washed in shampoo bubbles and rinsed and blown dry/blow dried.

Then popped onto a hottie in an upstairs bedroom (with the door stuffed closed just in case mum came to visit before we had finished.

When they were all clean we chased Bella out of the lower room and quickly put them, in their clean, cloth lined bed litter tray back to where they were. Within a short, Bella was back in there with them. She didn't seem to mind their new smell. But it is still hard to see them behind her scowl.

I moved Priya to where Fox and Turtle were before they were adopted. There were 9 adoptions since last Wednesday. She adjusted quite well.

I rearranged those three, central stand alones. It makes for more space for the vollies to move around. But, of course, it may not last.

Lou (back from the vet at last) is in Pishi's old stand alone and Cindy is below Shamus in the AWL condos.

Lou
Or she was until this afternoon when Catsie came and adopted her!

A woman came in (from a smokey pub) to adopt a kitten for her 9 year old son late this afternoon. She wanted Maggie but somebody is coming on Friday to adopt her. Then she wanted Apollo or Adonis. But they didn't want her. Then she though she would like one of the Supermarket kittens who have moved into the "green" stand alone. But it all took too long and we ran out of time. She may, or may not, be back.
Apollo and Adonis or a two headed cat.

And Oreo took his afternoon walk. Catsie had brought some cat mint that he liked and that Roxy LOVED.

Adoption Tails: Cindy, Rebecca, Oliver, Janet

Here are the follow ups for a litter of kittens who did not get a group name and no mother with them.

Cindy, now Pepperoni (6764)

1 day: She has been great! Eating/drinking and using the litter tray well. She loves scoffing her food down. The owners will change her name to Pepperoni.

1 week: Pepperoni is going well and her gunky eye is pretty much all gone now.

No 1 month response

Rebecca

No response
Note: she was originally adopted along with Akio but eventually came back to SAFE care before being adopted out again.
Rebecca
 Oliver (6766)
1 day: Oliver is settling in really well. He is eating both wet and dry food and water that is offered. He uses his litter tray with no problems. He comes and sits with the owner when she visits him in his room and is a real purr machine who loves tummy rubs.
Oliver
1 week: He is the best! He loves playing with his toys and feathers. He comes out for snuggles on the couch with the boys and is not timid with them at all. He really fits the family perfectly! The boys love him so much and really enjoy when Oliver gives them nose kisses and they all like it when he comes out for zooming play time. They think he is the funniest!
Oliver
1 month: He is honestly the most perfect cat for us! He is enjoying being able to roam and explore the family's little home and has found his favourite sunny spot by the window. He is super affectionate and loves playing with the boys (and mum's knitting!).

Janet - now Ruby

3 days: “She is adorable”. On her first day, she hid the whole day and only came out at night to eat, use the litter box and play. Her second day was much better as she slept on the end of her owner’s bed at night. During the day, she slept in an open tree house and didn’t hide at all. She is eating very well and plays a lot, especially at night. “She lets us pet and go near her but still hasn’t let her guard down sometimes she runs away when we suddenly go near her.” They have renamed her Ruby but she hasn’t responded yet. She purrs a lot when they pet her. “We are very happy and excited hope she is happy with us as well”

5 days: “She roams all around the house now”. She has been window gazing this morning
Janet now Ruby

1 week: “She is very comfortable”. Her owners say she’s “been amazing” and let them give her a hygiene trim today.

1 month: “She is doing great. she doesn’t even wake up when we walk very close to her while sleeping.” She was lethargic last week and her owners knew something was wrong. They took her to the vet immediately and found out that she had a slight fever, which she was given an injection for. Her fever was gone by the evening and she started playing again. “She is adorable, doesn’t ask for anything and very intelligent, learned everything so quickly. She sleeps with me with her head in my arms now. we are very happy to have her as a part of our family, thank you to you all”

Late Wednesday

I was late to Safe Haven today because of a DH doc appt. And am late to blog tonight because of a Guild committee meeting. The latter had cats wandering around the Zoom meeting. The former just had nasty needles.

In the meantime, there have been movements out of incoming into the Welfare area and into Incoming from goodness knows where.

Twinkle

Sparrow

Spuddy

Oscar

They don't look very happy. But remember how Bassuria and Julie used to be so frightened and starving. This afternoon was the first time I saw them cuddled up together in the open.

Bassuria and Julia
And out the back, under Josie, is a returned cat. Sparkle/Sparky was returned because he attacked the neighbour when cornered (as you would) and bit his owner. We will find  him a better person next time.
Sparkie

He is below Josie plus two. One of her two went to be desexed today. The other stayed at home and did something to his foot/leg. He was very pathetic (and cute) this afternoon holding up his right paw. (It didn't stop him jumping up to share his mum's afternoon tea!)

Sore paw
The highlight of the afternoon was a visit by Barb Webster who got to cuddle Freya's kittens who are where Cindy and co were.

Short Friday

I am away this weekend and had to leave Safe Haven early. And where I am staying while it has WiFi the system doesn't allow me to upload photos. I will add them when I get home. In the meantime

When I arrived Cindy Clawford was accepting the adulation of all the vollies. She is an excellent cat to use to teach inexperienced cat handlers how to pick up a cat. She just loves it all and can be held like a baby and passed from arm to arm. (By the time I uploaded the photos at home, Cindy was no longer on the "For Adoption" page of the Safe Website. So I assume that she has been adopted. Also gone from there areDaisy, Pickle and Sandy. . . but Sandy had the sniffles on Friday so she might be on the sick list.)

Cindy Clawford
I took the time to pat Yin and Yang. They loved it. And they loved the chicken that Arc handed out. He dropped by on his way home just to get a kitty fix.

Yin and Yang

We have two new cats in Boarding who are available:

Ricki who is a girl and is very people oriented. Her fosterer rang during the afternoon to find out how she was coping with the move. I held the phone next to Ricki so that her fosterer could hear her purring.

Ricki
Cooper, in the condo below, is not so outgoing but is a very chill cat.

Cooper
And Annabelle (in Michelle's stand alone) is available too. She won't last long.

A woman came in to find a cat to go with her collie type dog. Tim suggested Aslan who performed perfectly. But then Tim showed her Mr Garfield and I fear that she fell in love.

The squee kittens in Isolation have got ringworm. Cute, cuter and cutest has become wormy, wormier and wormiest. Such a shame.

No bags again

Thank you Tuesday. But I took the bags our vollies filled out before the Willoughby garbos came just to get rid of them. The first bin whose lid I opened did have some space. And also a rat. . . a live rat who scurried down into the bin's depths. Poor thing will get a surprise when s/he arrives at the landfill. But it might just be the perfect place for a rat to live.

Since last week Chilli, Mouse and Eric have been adopted. I wonder if the person who adopted Chilli was the one who initially wanted Jade. But Jade was adopted by a mum for her kids' holiday pleasure. That didn't turn out well because one of the kids developed a severe cat allergy within 2 days. He hadn't shown signs to other cats in his life. So it was just Jade. Jade is back with her fosterer.

Pickle has been moved to Eric's stand alone. This afternoon we moved her to the play place because Cindy and Co had it overnight last night. They need a quiet night tonight.

Cindy, Rufus and Indiana (L to R)

Chilli's is empty. And Tim wants to move Yin and Yan into Mouse's condo. But they were perfectly happy to be stroked this afternoon in their separate hidey holes. Sue and I thought that they would regress if shut up in an airless condo. So we left them where they were.

And let Venus and Muffin have a night out in the Top Cat. They were delighted to have a good stretch and scratch.

Venus and Muffin
Miz and Riley came to us because their owner has a terminal disease. They don't need their privacy covering. Riley is very friendly now. Miz perhaps not so much but she will come around.

Riley above, Miz skeptical

Betty's kittens have been named Barry and Blaze (by Sue). They have ringworm and today had a ringworm treatment bath. They did not enjoy it (neither did Sue). But they rather liked being snuggled up in towels on top of fresh hotties.

Barry and Blaze

Each week Lola tries another spot. She is accepting greetings from strangers as well as vollies these days and does nose bops with anybody who feeds her.

Much calmer today

And the poo bag situation is not so dire. Although it is better to have 0 bags on the verandah on Friday afternoon. I could have managed it if Willoughby Council had delivered our second bin already.

The good news is that Maggie has been adopted by a vollie. She (the new owner) is not able to take Maggie home just yet so she is still with us. Maggie was happy to have Top Cat time this afternoon. (Her triangular hammock is in her bed box).

Tim is still not well so cats were moved around by Irene. Cassie and Berkshire have come in from their foster home. Irene reports that Cassie is a lap cat. Berkshire would like a family with children or other animals. They both love company. (I would pronounce "Berkshire" barkshire. And think it is a name more suited to a dog than a cat).

Cassie

Berkshire
Kenji was also adopted yesterday. He was reclaimed by his fosterer. Chad has moved into his condo and doesn't like the change of scene so far.

Chad
And Rocky's sister was moved into the condo below Aslan where Jack and Luna were. Irene and I tried to choose the calmer sister to move. I gave her a fluffy bed after taking this photo.
Raya or Raven.

Cindy and her four surviving kittens have gone home with an experienced foster mum who bought in some sweet kittens all ready for adoption. They are wiggly kittens so I will need a holder to get a good photo.

With all these kittens around, Lola has reverted to spending her afternoons in Opie's room. Some nice person put a towel on a shelf for her.

Lola
The cats in the Palace were fostered by Irene. She says that they are all lovely cats who love pats. They were more outgoing after she visited with them. They have got used to being with us.

Too busy

Sue forgot that I told her that I would be late today as I had to take DH to the eye doc for another injection. She thought Tim would be on today but he
is not well. So when she arrived at 9am, nobody had been fed and the trash hadn't been taken out for collection. Then Mariko was hijacked by her bus driver and had to walk further than she expected, Robyn's car wouldn't start, other vollies decided they couldn't do today. Plus there were deliveries of large boxes of food, bags of litter and other mystery boxes.

Now, some heavenly person has cleaned out Opies room. It looks habitable. The table is clear, the floor is clear. Even Lola deigned to go in there to sit on a vacated shelf this afternoon! But there wasn't enough room for all the stuff that was delivered. So we left it in the corridor. [Sorry tomorrow].

On my heals, when I arrived at lunchtime, were visitors. The first lot was a young man who met us at a Dog and Cat show in town and bought a T-shirt. He later ripped the T shirt while skate boarding. Today he brought his (girl) friend to buy another T-shirt and meet all the cats. I introduced them all. And met Kenzi for the first time. He is in Rocky's condo because Rocky was adopted earlier in the week. They loved Dexter who was happily passed from arms to arms. He bought another T-shirt and a hoodie for his friend and left.

As another group arrived. This was Charlie's family. They are considering another cat for their 16 year old. So I showed them all again. Dexter was happy with cuddles.

Then a happy previous customer arrived with friends who wanted a kitten or two. We went around the possibles again. There were 3 of Grace's kittens in the play place. They finally settled on two of them. They were two of the boys. The last remaining, all grey kitten is a female. I did the adoption. . . slowly and inefficiently.

Then a previous visitor came to see who was available. But they really wanted to see Dexter who they rather fancied. He, by this stage, had had enough of being picked up and admired. He latched onto his potential owners arm with teeth and claws. We had to pry him off. Her skin is AMAZING. She hardly bled. If he had done that to  me I would have been shredded. They were amazing and continued with the tour and admired Kenji. Who wouldn't!

Kenji
Nobody got to have play time except Aslan for a while and Charlie and Champ. (Champ is getting more adventurous).
Charlie and Champ

Poor Cindy didn't get fed nearly often enough. Why is one kitten not in the clump?
