Adoption Tails: Polly

 Polly, now Lua

1 day: Polly is settling in amazingly, she seems happy and doesn't seem to have any issues adjusting to her new home. She's been eating and drinking regularly and has used her litter a bunch too.

Polly
1 month: Polly is going really well here, she's settling in right at home. The owners have decided to rename her Lua. "Thank you guys for everything you do."

Akira

1 day: He is settling in well and has been eating, etc. The only concern is that he has been sneezing a lot and has weeping eyes.

3 days: He's still sneezing a bit like he has a cold.

1 week: He's settling in well and eating lots. Only thing is that the teary eyes and occasional sneezing is still ongoing. The yellow/brown discharge from his eyes has to be wiped daily. He's enjoying sleeping in his cat tower and has been sleeping with the owners. Only hiding in occasion.

No 1 month response.

Little One

Little One

1 month: He's settled in very well. Very vocal when he wants attention and always following the owner about his own home.

Simba

1 day: Simba is settling is so much better than expected. The moment the owners let him out, he wandered everywhere around the house and then hid under the bed. He came out for dinner the same night and slept beside the owner's feet on the first night and on their feet the next night. He is so adorable and definitely has a very good personality. He has no problem eating, drinking water and using the litter tray.

1 week: He is much more relaxed, lying here and there in the house. He is eating and drinking well. Even lets the owners groom him but not for long.

Simba
1 month: Simba is doing well and grows a closer bond with the owners.

Sara

1 day: She's doing alright. The owner set her all up with everything she needs, she stayed in her carrier for a while. She was under the bed in the morning. The owner only noticed a little bit of food had been eaten.

1 week: It's going all good, just going to take a little time for both cats to get used to each other.

1 month: Sara is going really well. She loves the owner's resident cat Emma. They're both really playful and sometimes Emma will try and chase Sara around. She gets more comfortable everyday having a new friend around. Sara is becoming more trusting everyday, and has been coming up close to the owner and licks treats off her hand. The owner actually only got the first quick little pat on her head the other night which was very exciting.

J's countdown

Jack and Jessie were posted on the Safe website today. This afternoon a woman called interested in them. She will drive from the south coast to be in East Roseville as early as she can tomorrow morning.

It has been nice having them with us.

Irene did bring in her foster cats after Helen and I left on Wednesday. I installed the Top Cat so that Dylan could visit with Willa and Darcy. He spent some time in the scratchy pole hole but jumped back up to his bed box pretty quickly. It is a scary place.

Dylan
Willa and Darcy hid in their scratchy box all the time.

Willa (on left) and Darcy

So I moved the Top Cat so that Simba could meet Sebastian and Dorian. They seemed to be pleased to meet.

Simba with Sebastian and Dorian

Ashley (sister of S & D) was out of the cat carrier and in her bed box for the first time, today. Slow progress.

Ashley

If anybody knows/remembers where they bought the spray bottle on the right will you please buy us some more of them. The one on the left (from Bunnings) is no good. Even the tall Bleach spray bottle in the kitchen has given up the ghost.

Low Lola

Irene was horrified to find the "new" stratchy pole that Lola loved to loiter on was covered with her hair and her upchucks. Irene moved it into the corridor to give it a good cleaning in the hope that somebody will buy it. Lola wandered around looking lost. She climbed into the bookshelf and sat with the Safe hats for a while but eventually retreated to ground level. No nose bumps there.

Lola
It was a very quiet afternoon. The most exciting thing was when the wooden, crate-like carrier was picked up, at last. And a pair of boarders were transferred to a fosterer to take home.

Although when I was handing out chicken (thank you Catsie, the cats loved your crispy chicken skin) I noticed a black cat waiting for me in the Welfare area . . . . not confined. On investigation it turned out to be Mia. How did she get out? With chicken in my hand she was easy enough to get back in.

Sesame is settling in but doesn't like us yet (or my chicken).

Sesame
Cuddlepie declined to venture into the Top Cat.

Cuddlepie

Mickey prefers to be in his bed box.

Mickey

There is an new cat come in from foster in Rebecca's condo. He is Simba and is confused.

Simba

Mums and bubs are doing well except that Whitney prefers to spend most of her time in her upper bed box where the little suckers can't get at her. They happily eat baby food. We think she must come down to feed them when she is ready.

Adoption Tails: Peanut, Simba, Chichi

Lexi (previously Peanut)

1 day: Peanut is now Lexi. She is very relaxed and comfy at the moment. She has been very active and playful, eating and drinking really well. She has used the litter.1 week: Lexi is a family member now!1 month: Lexi is doing pretty well. Happy and healthy!

Grilka (previously Chichi)

1 week: She's fitting right in and have started sleeping in amongst the other cats on the bed and getting more and more confident by the day. Her initial nervousness is slowly leaving as she gets to know the other cats and she is very affectionate around us.

1 month: Chichi, now Grilka, has been registered and is very happy at home. She cuddles up on the bed often, and will loudly greet the owners when they walk in the room. She thoroughly inspects the litter trays as they are being cleaned and enjoys snacking every now and then. She is getting along well with the rest of the cats, especially Sarek, Moogie and Cherry (the dog). She often sleeps with the last two in a room the owners have affectionately dubbed "The Grumpy Old Lady Room" which just so happens to be the owner's gaming office. "Thank you for allowing us to adopt her."

 Mango (previously Simba)

1 day: Things are going amazing! Simba is now Mango. His safe room is the laundry at the moment. He found the door to the rest of the house immediately and wanted to be outside though it seemed too much when he got out so the family put him back. Mango is staying in his small kingdom for now. He ate dinner AND breakfast, did a poop and drinking water. He's been giving lots of cuddles and pets. He and the owner are currently watching some youtube in his safe room. They're the bestest buds already!

1 week: Mango has settled in really really well and quite quickly too. He has access to the whole house now (with most bedroom doors closed) and is okay finding his way up and down the stairs. he gets the whole of the downstairs when the owner is off to work. He seems to the love the freedom but is still always relatively close to the owner.
1 month: Mango is doing awesome! He's super affectionate and is very comfortable around the whole house now.

Simba gone

He was adopted on Sunday afternoon. I don't think a reader of this blog adopted him. But the vibe might have helped.

Diamond was adopted today: one of Ruby's fluffies is to be a surprise for a child this afternoon.

Lots of vollies meant that the cleaning was done early. On Helen's suggestion I helped with the washing up and it certainly went faster with one to wash and rinse and the other to spray with bleach and, eventually, F10.

In the afternoon we let single cats out to wander in the barricaded Welfare area. First were Tibby and Tabby with Helena and Kate in the Top Cat. They mostly stayed on their shelf and watched but one did come down to greet her friends. (I don't know who is who). We sterilized the floor between cats.

Kate and Helena
Then Phantom had a run (stagger) and a smooch with Lucy. Then Ginger George came out to play. (He had been swearing at me from his condo while the youngsters were out). I went out back to unpack some tins and who should come wandering out to me but Ginger George. I escorted him back to the enclosure thinking that he had jumped over the barricade.
Calvin actually moved to make friends with Ginger

But he promptly crawled under Milo's stand alone, turned left at the windows and crawled under the trolley to freedom! I have since put a longer sheet over Milo's stand alone that falls to the floor. I don't think it will fool Ginger but it is worth a try.

Vicky wanted some photos of Jolene. I changed her Elizabethan collar to a smaller one that she could walk in and she had a lovely wander to say hello to Tibby and Tabby.

Jolene ignores Tia
She ignored the tender chirrups that Taylor's mum made at her. She must be missing her son.

This morning Lucy distracted Mia with some creamy treat while I cleaned her downstairs without incident. Later Judy thought that there was a strong smell of urine coming from the cat carrier that she doesn't sit in. While it was quiet I decided to remove the carrier so donned the giant blue gloves and picked up the large picker upper. As I approached Mia's condo she screeched at me. I turned around and took off the gloves, hung the picker upper back on the wall and apologised to Mia. Maybe somebody can try it one morning. Maybe she likes the smell. Maybe it is Biscuit above who might just be on heat.

Simba's story

Simba lived next door to Kim, the daughter of our Helen's flatmate, in Schofield in a house with a woman who is an animal hoarder. She has an idle husband and 2 small children plus multiple cats (none desexed), dogs and rabbits plus 2 litters of kittens inside.Simba was relegated to outside with 2 other cats and found his way over and into the hearts of Kim, her 4 yr old daughter and their staffy, Shadow.

The lady next door was happy for Kim to take Simba so he moved in, had a local vet check and then desexed and vaccinated through Safe.Unfortunately Kim can’t keep Simba as her husband doesn’t like cats and it was causing too much stress. Kim is 8 months pregnant with their 2nd child so Tim agreed to take him now.He is a very easy going and lovable fella and Kim is heartbroken.

Lockdown

I made a mistake on my last blog. Chanel didn't die. She is with the vet being treated for something, serious. But kittens in Incoming did die of parvovirus: the two smaller ones in the stand alone beside the Royal Canine stand alone and one of the ones with Venus in the stand alone across the room. It seems that parvovirus is running rampant in the western suburbs and goodness knows where these kittens came from. They may have brought separate bugs with them. The Royal Cannon stand alone was moved out of Incoming yesterday. But Roxy's kittens were not looking very energetic and not eating (!) this afternoon. So they were rolled back into Incoming. The cats, McGreggor and Donatella who were moved out of Incoming on Wednesday were moved back there. And it is a no-go zone for all but a few staff/vollies so that we can try to contain the source of infection. https://pets.webmd.com/cats/what-to-know-about-feline-parvovirus has lots of good information.

Tim has vaccinated all the cats that he can in the hope that we can stop cats getting very sick. Kittens are more vulnerable than adults. So there is to  be no more random cuddling of kittens and no cats are allowed out to run around to play. Phantom was not happy at being shut in this afternoon.

Phantom
And Opie complained loud and long.
Opie
Some cats couldn't give a . . . . . like Chessie: who would rather be alone. Perhaps we should have called her Greta.
Chessie
Demi and Winnie were not so upset by the lack of attention but the fact that they didn't cuddle together in one hammock. The tie of the upper hammock came undone and they were forced to find other places to sit.
Here in the process of getting back together after I tied the bow again.

And we have a new cat, Simba. Don't know where he came from and I couldn't give him a welcome cuddle because we are in lock down.

Hello Diego

It was lovely to see him again. But he has lost his prime position in the upper row of Cat Palace condos and is at knee level in the old AWL condos. Nevertheless he did smile when he saw me and positively glowed when Joy arrived.

Diego, home again

The woman who adopted Coco came to return the fluffy bed that she bought from us when she got Coco. Coco took one sniff and turned her back on it. I swapped it for a hammock that I made last week with a gingerish cat in mind.
Bottom left is Coco's new hammock
They are very happy together. She sent photos. And picked up the worming/flea treatment that was needed.

Coco at home

The other Coco is happy also. I gave her an new box. She promptly jumped on top of it. She
had chewed the previous one into instability.

Coco

Simba and Khandi were picked up by a lovely young woman who has been waiting for ages for them to be ready to be adopted. She and her partner fell in love with them months ago and are so thrilled to have them home. I lent her a carrier big enough for two adult cats to take them home in. She brought it back and reported that S & K are exploring their bedroom for excellent hiding places . .. . . under the bed didn't work: it is too low but there are plenty of others provided.

A 60-something bloke rang this morning to ask about Ruby. He wants an older cat to share his life. He has had rescue cats before, frequently. The last one, that he got from RSPCA didn't last as long as expected. The cat developed renal failure shortly after settling in. Undeterred, he wants another older cat and thinks that Ruby might be perfect. I encouraged that idea and he will be in tomorrow to meet her. Strangely enough, Ruby usually stays in her bed, hidden away. But today she was out and about in the visible part of her condo as though waiting for somebody. Fingers crossed.

Ruby
Sandy started her new role as my afternoon buddy today. I kept her busy all the afternoon and was very grateful for her help. It's a hard job but somebody has to do it.

Wrong names

I have been confused. I will go back and correct previous blogs.

Poe is the big boy who has been desexed. Peppa is the little girl who doesn't get her share of food.

Peppa (L) and Poe (R)
Plus, Simba is the 8 year old, tabby male and Khandi is the grey tabby, 2 year old girl

Simba, 8 yo boy

Khandi, 2 yo girl

I know this because Irene came by this afternoon with a kitten to be microchipped and vaccinated. She knows everything about every(cat)body.

Tommy and Mia's kittens, Bonnie (tortie girl) and Lemmy (white and grey boy) have been moved to above where Khandi and Simba were before they moved out and Peach moved in. They are both heavy enough to be desexed and are high up.

Bonnie and Lemmy

Peach seems to have recovered from her move or was she exhausted by her upstairs neighbours.

Peach

Beauty, yet another black cat in residence has the most amazing eyes. They are both amber and green now that she is relaxed enough to look at you.

Beauty

And Duke's eye operation seems to be successful. He can blink his right eye now. He is such a sweetie.

Duke

Team Terrific

The combination of a terrific team of workers, no visitors, the computer down and very few phone calls meant that I had an easy day. I even left my camera a home so can use some of Joy's lovely snaps.

Diego

Diego gets lots of Joy snap time. He is holding a pink ping pong ball ready to hit it back to her. He is getting friendlier by the week. As is his mum, Remi.

Simba and Khandi have moved to a double in Boarding. Much better except that they are below Poe and Peppa who get fed more often than they do. Poe is much younger than Peppa who got desexed yesterday. She has a touch of the flu and doesn't like Babycat. So you have to hang over them while they eat to make sure that she gets a fair share. Simba and Khandi follow each mouthful, almost. They are always hungry.

Khandi

Simba
Wanda doesn't like Babycat either. She is as thin as she can be with five kittens feeding on her. So I spent the day feeding her small meals of various tins with a bit of raw meat to encourage her to eat.
Wanda + 1
Her adopted kittens (the first lot that she rejected before she gave birth, sensibly) can climb out of the sleeping room. Her ginger can too but he looks like he has a touch of the flu. At one stage today, the big three were "out" with "mum" and ginger boy was lying back with his head on the tiny grey's tummy.

Violet and her kittens have gone to a foster home. In her condo are three street cats. We are expecting a fourth. They are Gloria's kittens. All torties, so far. And smart enough to be frightened.

Gloria's three

Valentine is out in the main room ready to be adopted. In her place is Ruby, another older cat who wonders where on earth she is but is prepared to greet any person with purrs and rubs.
