Adoption Tails: Tinkerbell, Pistachio

 Tinkerbell aka Tika

1 day: She’s been doing really well! She hid under the couch for about an hour when she was first brought home but she came out of her shell really quickly. She’s eating, drinking, and using her litter box. She doesn’t like loud noises so they’ve been keeping the TV down and talking softly but are sure she’ll get used to it soon. She slept on her owner’s bed all night. Her owner’s bedroom is her safe room but she doesn’t really use it. She’s definitely fit in with her new family very well. They need to teach her not to chew everything she sees but she’s getting there.

1.5 weeks: She’s been great! She isn’t really scared of loud noises anymore - not even the vacuum. She seems to have settled it really nicely and is the easiest cat. Every night, she takes herself to bed at 8 pm and doesn’t get up until her owner or her owner’s mother wakes up in the morning. She’s super happy and loves the couch.

1 month: She’s adjusted perfectly to her food and is no longer having any stomach issues. She is happy to eat “anything and everything” - her owner has been switching her food around a little and she’s super happy with whatever. She’s eating Royal Canin wet food at night and Royal Canin biscuits. She has Ziwi Peak occasionally too. The other day she licked Vegemite off her owner’s plate and seemed to enjoy it. She has been renamed Tika and has a nickname of Tika-meow-sala. She has been registered and needs her final kitten vaccination. They’ve been giving her catnip dental treats to help with her dental hygiene. “This cat has been a blessing to me honestly I can’t wait to spend the rest of her life with her”. Her owner also said “She is super happy and playful and her legs don’t seem to be an issue at all”

1.5 months: “just wanted to thank you guys for the last time. This cat was a blessing and more than anything I could’ve asked for and I feel like I made the complete right decision! thank you so much and if anyone I know wants to adopt or I ever want to adopt again you guys will be the first I turn to. If I ever go on holiday I know I can trust my kitty with you guys to look after her and if I ever need anything I know I can contact you guys”

Pistachio aka Kumo

3 days: “Pistachio is doing really well! He is mostly out from under the bed, is eating normally, he’s drinking and using his litter tray well now too. He’s becoming so confident and playful. So good to see!”

9 days: Pistachio has been renamed Kumo, which means cloud. He is doing really well. His owner opened the safe room door yesterday. He spent half the day exploring but chose to sleep in his safe room. He’s still eating normally and using his litter tray. “He’s becoming more affectionate and sleeps on the bed with me at night.”

1 month: “Kumo’s doing well. He’s a sweet, playful boy, he’s grown so much and become cuddly.”

Boarding sparkles

Coco came in to board this morning. I think it is this Coco, https://safehavencats.blogspot.com/2022/06/adoption-tails-coco-again.html

When she was brought in Boarding Row was being scrubbed, bleached and F10'd because Katie's cats all went home last night. It required two vollies. . . one short and one tall. And took ages.

Only Ashley left in Boarding.
So I popped Coco into D4 which is on Better Row beside the fridge. It should be nice and quiet there.

Should be but:

Dancer escaped during the cleaning and ended up under the far end of the food shelves. A bowl of milk placed outside the shelves on the floor didn't entice her out. So I put some smelly food in a bowl up the feeding table end and she migrated there. I blocked off her escape back to the far corner with towels and gradually narrowed the gap. I put a cat carrier in her escape path out from under the shelves and put the food in there. Eventually she came out. Not into the carrier unfortunately. But to a place where I could grab her and take her back to her home.

Pretty entertaining for Coco to see me crawling around on the floor.

Stevie, one of Sabrina's kittens from the play place has an infected tummy wound and has been moved to the condo next to Tommy. She spends her time screaming for attention when any person appears. I thought it was just Sabrina's black and white boy who screamed. But now there is a chorus!

Stevie
Poor Coco.

Shortly thereafter, Sue said "Why did you let Callie out?" .. . . . . I was on my tummy in Better Row! Somebody else didn't shut her door. Callie, of course, was under the merch shelves. In the very area that Sandy and I blocked off with cardboard after fighting to get out a pair of very frightened cats during their adoption last year some time. The cardboard has gone. Callie is much friendlier than those kittens were but she is still too canny to let herself be caught after only one mouthful of lovely wet food. Eventually I dismantled the corner shelf and grabbed her. She forgave me. The wet food helped.

Callie

Tinkerbelle appeared on the For Adoption list on the Safe website briefly over the weekend. We thought that she had been adopted. A family came very ready to adopt her but she wasn't microchipped and didn't have any paperwork so they will have to come back. Tinkerbelle isn't in a hurry.

And a lovely family came to check out our cats. They have just moved back to Oz from Shanghai/Taipei and have moved into a pet friendly apartment block. It will be a couple of weeks before they are ready for a pet. But the boy loved Martin and the girl loved Gemma. (I didn't show them Tinkerbell). They will be back.

Betty not so well

At 3:15 she was OK. But by 4 pm there were 2 big vomits and 2 skinny poos. Plus the kittens bedding was wet. So I changed it all. There was a little chicken left for her tummy.

One of Pickles kittens was adopted today: Caper, the champagne medium haired one. Sue did the adoption. . . .. and had the same problem with the program that I often have. I call on Tim to "fix" it which he invariably does by pressing "reset". Sue did the same, twice, and it worked. Cranky computers!

So now Pickles only has 4 kittens. I changed the signs on her condo in Isolation just in case somebody, over the weekend got into a panic about a missing kitten. These are the four left. Their names are Brine, Cucumber and some other picklish names.

I don't know who is who. And am not prepared to open the door to take a photo because they are all crazy to get out.

Tinkerbell is on the website. Has been all day without being adopted. What is wrong with them out there!

I was a bit late and all the work had been done. I had to go home at lunch time to see to my cat who has a urinary blockage problem which is not uncommon in boy cats. He had surgery yesterday and I wanted him at home to recover so I borrowed a cat cage from Bronwen. She reports that Max is fine. I didn't get to see him although he was just outside. His favourite sleeping place in hot weather is in their basin in the en suite. Thelma and Louise were hiding so the only critters I saw were the two madly barking alsatian dogs. I might get to see Max when I return the cat cage.

A Terry kind of Wednesday

I am a little late to post because I had to send Vicky the url of a really good anatomy podcast, https://www.instantanatomy.net/podcasts.html. If, like her, you need to learn anatomy to be able to teach pilates or some other such ambition, this is the podcast to do it. Run it on a loop while you sleep and it will percolate into your brain.

Today was busy, as usual. But busy with adoptions!

A mother and daughter came to adopt Rainy at about 11am. Seen her on the web, fell in love, had to have her! Done! But she is still with us because they have to get organised at home. Earlier in the day Vicky had thoroughly cuddled all of these kittens so they were primed to be adopted.

Rainy
Then around lunch time a family arrived. . .mum, dad, boy who needed to adopt Rainy, his sister and two friends of the sister who were sisters. And Rainy was adopted already. So they had a little cuddle with Micky and Henry and decided that Micky would do.
Micky
They took him home with lots of other stuff. While the decision was being made, the daughter's friends fell in love with PC. And he with them. Unfortunately they are a bit allergic to cats so don't think that their parents will cooperate.

Later in the afternoon, the woman who said that she would come back as soon as she had a door problem sorted, came back! With her son to help. And adopted Trixie and Roxy. How good is that! I put together the last carry cage on top of the enclosures and popped Trixie in without any problems. I expected to have trouble with Roxy but she allowed me to hold her firmly around her chest and front legs and to place her gently into the carrier with her daughter. Quelle relief. (Perhaps that is just what Roxie was saying. . . . . "What a relief to be leaving this place").

During all this I let out Charlie and Champ for a wander. Champ seems to be salivating excessively. And there was vomit in their condo. As well as left over breakfast crunchies. Perhaps he has a sore tooth.

dribbling Champ
Robyn took this photo after he met the delectable Molly. But I don't think that is why he was dribbling.
Molly

Now, if he had met Tinkerbelle, I might have expected some drooling. Her leg seems much improved and she is, as Joy says, a Purr Machine.
Tinkerbelle

Thanks for the photos Joy and Robyn. I didn't have time to take any today.

There is a pile of towels, sheets, pillowslips, bathmats, tea towels, adult sized bibs, etc, etc, in the foyer. They are not suitable for us to use for the cats: too big, too thick, too slippery, etc, etc. But they are good for people to use. So please take what takes your fancy. Or if nothing does, please take an armful to put into a charity bin near you. With all the floods we have had this summer, folk could well need some free bedding. Or some towels to clean up the mess.
