Adoption Tails: Ruby and her litter. Plus Matteo

 Ruby, adopted May 27, 2022

Day 1: Ruby has settled in very well and is eating, drinking and toileting as if she has been with her new owner a while. She has already claimed her favourite spots to sleep and be able to see what her owner is doing. She is still a bit nervous if she hears outside noises and will hide but will overcome that with time. We are both very happy.

 

Week 1: Ruby is settling in well and has investigated the rest of the house but prefers the family room and the 2nd bedroom but is still a bit nervous of noises. She heads into the bedroom and under the bed and needs tempting to come out but she will get better in time."

Month 1: Ruby seems to have settled really well now and is being quite affectionate and no longer hiding under beds after noises she doesn't know. Rather she comes to find her owner and is always aware of where she am of it not sure, will check out where she is."

Ebby, adopted April 6, 2022

Day 1: Ebby is great. She ate last night and this morning, using her litter tray has done a poop! Loves hiding under her owners bed and crawled all over her last night when I was sleeping. She's got a couple of hiding places but has been coming in and out.

Bear, adopted May 29. 2022

1 day: Bear is quite confident. She is eating and toileting and sleeping well. She isn't hiding but will go back into her carrier to sleep. She will be kept in her room for 2 weeks.

1 week: She's settling in absolutely perfectly. She's eating, drinking and using her litter tray well! She's very happy to explore. She's familiarised herself mostly with 2 rooms but is happy to go for an explore while her owner is around. She seems to have settled into the routines. 
She has been renamed Penelope/Penny (Bear was slightly masculine for such a sweet little thing) and thinks her settling down is going very fast. The kitty trusts her person a lot and she's confident to explore, play and follow him around everywhere.

1 month: She has been absolutely fantastic. She's her owner's best friend in every way and she's been well-behaved the entire time. She's able to explore the backyard now, which is great because he can actually leave the back door open and she can explore, but she can't escape! She's 
always really interested in hassling his leftover food.
 

Matteo

Day 1: Matteo is doing really well, hasn't stopped purring. Been exploring the bedroom he is staying in and playing with a few toys. Ate all his dinner last night and breakfast this morning. He has used his litter tray as well. As soon as someone comes into the room, he runs and hides under the bed but when you sit down, he normally comes out. We will be keeping the name Matteo, it's a nice name. He slept in the carrier last night with two towels, wanders in and out. Has tried out the bed too, but only briefly.

Week 1: "He's adorable and so affectionate. Was lying in bed with his owner last night watching TV. Follows her into the bathroom & her wardrobe. He sleeps in his room but during the day we leave the door open so he can explore if he wants to. Only when we are home. Today he was even sitting in the bathroom when the owner had a shower. When finished, he went in there by himself. He is very curious. He still has a bit of discharge coming out of his eyes. Bought some special wipes so I have been wiping them twice a day.

Month 1:  He is adorable. Have started leaving the door open at night and he comes into the owners' bed. Trying to get him to sleep next to me instead of on top of me. THe daughter has a puppy so we are slowly introducing them to each other. Just saying hello at the moment. The puppy licked his face today. His eyes have been better the last two days sort of comes and goes a bit. The vet said to come and see her next week if it’s not better.  He is so loved by everyone in the family.

Bye bye Baby

 Vicky took home Baby today as a foster to adopt. She has an old cat already and hopes that these two old ladies will get along together. And with the younger Lucky cat. And the dog. But first, everybody had to say goodbye:

I am told it was fairly chaotic this morning with lots of folk coming to fill in paperwork for kittens in a foster home. The last one was processed this afternoon. I wonder if folk have had second thoughts about going away for the school holidays and decided to get a kitten instead. Perhaps all the Coffee shop kittens will be gone by Monday!

Remember when I spoke to the man who surrendered Max and Gus. I thought that he had named them. But it was Katie who named them after her sons. But didn't apportion the names. So I decided today that the tabby is Gus (short for guts. .. . he always wants first at the food and more of it thank you). His downstairs, shyer brother is Max. Now we just have to figure out who is who of the Akela/Rafiki and Diego/Samira family.

Luigi and Bambi are boarding. Bambi has been shaved because he has a skin condition. Doesn't stop him eating Luigi's medicated food. Luigi didn't want it until I laced it with chicken juice.

Adoption Tails: Snowy

 Snowy, adopted June 5, 2022

1 day: She has been picked up from foster care and is starting to settle in. She has used the litter tray and has eaten a bit. She has been renamed Mochi. She was initially hesitant to eat but has started eating better.

Snowy/Mochi day 1

1 week: Mochi is going well. She has settled into eating and is somewhat exploring outside her safe room. Still is a bit shy during the day and will normally sit in her bed.

1 month: Mochi has been doing really well and has been exploring around the house. She is being trained to use the toilet and it has been going well. All eating habits are good but she is getting a bit fat.

 

Snowy/Mochi 1 month

Adoption Tails: Dawn

 Dawn, adopted June 4, 2022 (Sibling of Dabi and Dumpling)

1 day: She hasn't eaten or gone to the toilet. She was hiding inside the sofa but she has now been moved into a bedroom and the door has been closed. She will be kept in the bedroom with her owner tonight. She has been renamed Bella.

(The following day): She is under the chest of drawers with food and litter nearby. The following morning, she used her litterbox and ate some food.

1 week: Bella is still hiding but she comes out to eat all of her food when her owner isn't looking. She likes to eat.

1 month: Bella is settling in fine. She's still a little skittish but has improved so much. Both photos at 1 month.

Adoption Tails: Natalia

 Natalia, adopted June 3, 2022

 1 day: She's doing very well, all things considered, with the huge change to her surroundings and being on her own now. She's in the study - it's warm and quiet and has everything she needs. She's still quite skittish but has eaten well, used the litter and investigated the whole room during the night (knocked down a few books and pushed over th
e computer mike and mouse but all good). She did cry and mewl a lot last night but has been quiet today (and hopefully tonight too). She has been renamed Lila. They think she'll adapt very well and will be very happy quite soon.

Natalia, 1 week

1 week: She's taken over the house. She's fine. She's eating and drinking very well and her bodily functions are working well. She demanded to come out of her safe place 3 days ago and knows the flat better than her owner's husband. 

She comes when her name is called, never shuts up when she wants to play, and goes back to her room to sleep 8 hours every night. She is a lap cat. She is very energetic until you sit down for 2 minutes. She prefers scratching the curtains and lounges over the scratching post. Life's perfect. "She's very happy ... and so are we"

1 month: Lila couldn't be healthier nor happier, by all accounts. She is definitely ruling the roost. She had a visit to the vet last week for her last shot and she is perfect (according to the vet). She has also been registered with the council. All registered with the council now as well. She searches for food everywhere and nothing can be left open (or out) for 5 seconds. 

She's slow on learning "no" but they're working on teaching her. She eats everything that's not tied down. She follows her owner around like a puppy dog and has recently taken to sleeping with her owners at night. She wants to go outside but they will wait until late spring to supervise her. Apart from that, all is great. "Have a feeling she's quite comfortable here"

 

Still raining

 The rain caused traffic havoc that delayed two vollies and stopped another vollie's car from starting. It also kept away the person who was going to come to choose an older cat. But the bloke who adopted Max dropped by with his paperwork (rather damp. . . both him and the paperwork). He said that he and Max were getting on very well. Max was leaning against his leg and purring so he put his hand down to give Max a pat on the head and chomp. He ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics. He didn't see any cats that he fancied today. . .. . once bitten, etc.

But Max has gone to Katie's for a break. Juliet has moved into the Palace to await her Romeo. She may be moved to Jackie's condo if we can persuade a nice person to foster her for a while to see if she gets better in a home. She cries a lot in the cattery. And there is no room in Boarding for Juliette. It is fully booked for the school holidays. Luigi and Bambi are coming in. And Daphne (now known as Tilly) is in residence. She seemed very pleased to see us.

Ginger was in the play place when I arrived. He was very chatty. Just like he is in his condo. His ringworm treatment is finished and he has been declared cured.

We put a couple of the boarders in for a play, not together. Tip loved it. (He has a white tip on his tail). Mayka and Daphne/Tilly were not thrilled.

At the end of the day we wheeled in the Coffee shop kittens and they settled right in. By tomorrow morning they will be all played out.

The best thing to happen was that Vicki scrubbed the snot off the inside of Star's stand alone. You can now see the kittens without opening the door (which risks an escapee kitten, usually the ginger.)

Midsummer's big day

 I picked her up from Catsie's at noon. She snoozed in the car all the way to Safe Haven. Jayde claimed cuddle rights as soon as we walked in the door. (Midsummer lived with her when she was first found as a newborn on the street). I sent them to the play place where Florence was stretching her legs. Midsummer and Florence remembered that they didn't like each other. So Flo went back to her crate.

Then her adopter arrived. She asked if she could do the paperwork today and her sister would pick her up on Monday! What? The deal was take her today because we are full. We have no space for her. She could have stayed at Catsie's until next week. The adopter was convinced to take her today for which I am very grateful because Tim was there to guide me through the Shelterbuddy maze. It seems to have lots of quirks that weren't on the practice version. . . . just press refresh (F5) says Tim.

She got the fancy cloth carrier and a bag full of litter, food samples and paperwork and set off to Burwood by bus and train, then another train and another bus. I am glad she had a run around with Florence and some lunch before she set off. 

Then a couple arrived to investigate the possibility of trying out a kitten. He was keen. She is allergic to mites and remembers sneezing mightily when she slept with a pair of long haired cats as a child. The dry food we feed the cats is supposed to decrease the allergic-ness of cat hair and dander. Will it work for her? I suggested that they foster to adopt to try it out but Tim says we don't have any cats suitable at the moment. So they talked and talked and will probably be back tomorrow to adopt Bart. He really wanted Maggie but she hasn't been desexed yet because of her heart murmur.

Then a pair of folk came to inspect us and our procedures to make sure we are a safe place to work. They wanted to know all about our fire escape plan, if we used safety harnesses when working more than 1.6 m off the ground, if our power tools were all safety checked, etc, etc. Amazing amount of paperwork for a one roomed establishment on the first floor of a fairly new building. While she ticked the not applicable boxes, he decided that he needs a tuxedo kitten like Bean or Dynamo

to go with his small grey and white kitten. He might be back tomorrow too. He really fancied Oreo but somebody else might want her.

Not to mention Yan and Yin. We are spoiled for choice of tuxedos at the moment.

I thought that Yoko and Linda were adopted yesterday because they disappeared from the website. But it turns out that they don't have microchips.
