Flat tyre

 I started the day with a flat tyre. Luckily the NRMA came a full hour before anticipated so that I wasn't too late for the breakfast feed. Although I did miss filling other folks bins because the Willoughby truck had come and gone by the time I arrived.

Several empty condos including Dylan's which will please Irene on her return. And Petal has been adopted. Mario and Luigi were picked up and I moved Annie and Lola into their place. They are next door to Bonnie who is  a gloriously soft and friendly cat. I will get a photo of A & L when they settle in.

Adom has been moved into Lola's stand alone. He has also mastered the wobbly bottom door latch and bursts out on occasion.

Three separate photographers tried to get photos of Bagherra and co in the the play place. The shy ones are impossible to get and the non shy ones won't sit still. It doesn't help that they are mostly black.

This is a good way of getting kittens to sit still. But not much good for telling them apart if they are black.

Their mum is still without a name. There must be some famous woman well known for being a chatterbox. . . .

Tim suspects that the father of the dirty grey kittens is either a Siamese or similar because the edges of their ears are getting darker by the day.

There is a new trio in Incoming from the Collaroy Vets. Chip and Cookie are friendly. But Chuck is a scaredy cat. He seems younger as well.

We had some lovely clients. A girl and her mum came to "visit." The girl would love a cat but by the time she'd spent half an hour with us her nose was stuffing up and her eyes itching. I mentioned the anti immunogenic food that we used to have. 

Then a couple came looking for a grey cat in the play place. They were happy to meet others as that lot is not quite ready yet.

Princess

1 day: Princess is eating and drinking well. She lets the owners pat her and seems relaxed. Has yet to do anything in the litter tray though.

1 week: She is doing really well and definitely coming out of her shell. Started to become very curious.

1 month: Princess has settled in really well. The owners have not registered yet and really appreciated the reminder.

Maria, now Pickle

1 day: Maria is slowly settling in. She has had some food and water but still a bit nervous so the owners are just leaving her to go at her own pace. They will keep the name as the daughter loves it. Though originally, Maria was going to be renamed Pickles.

1 week: So the daughter has decided to change Maria's name to Pickles after all. She is doing very well, starting to explore the house little by little. The family has slowly and in short periods introduced Pickles to the family dog and it is going very well. Currently Pickles gets to explore the whole house while the dog is staying with the in-laws for a couple of days. When he is back, the family will pick up their introductions to each other. Pickles is eating and drinking well and is in a playful mood more often every day!

Luigi, now Pepper

1 day: Luigi has been renamed to Pepper and he is doing well. Using the litter box, eating and drinking after some encouragement. He's enjoying exploring the apartment, playing with a wand toy and occasionally snuggling up with the owner.

 1 week: The owner has noticed that one of Pepper's claws doesn't look right. He is not acting any different and it does not seem to be painful. The nail does not come out very far (all other nails are fine) and the owner is wondering if it could just be a broken nail?

1 month: Pepper is doing great! He's happy and healthy, super affectionate and playful. The owner has adopted another small rescue kitten and they are starting to bond really well.

 We now have two Cousin waste bins and one paper Cousin bin. They emptied one of the two waste bins this morning but not the paper bin. But they did empty the paper bin earlier in the week. All good progress. We will hang onto our Willoughby bins until the Cousins are working twice a week, every week.

Geoff brought us a cat who had been found tick bit in a bit of bushland that his firey friends were burning off. The cat went to the vet for paralysis treatment and has recovered. Dean asked me what kind of cat he was. I answered "a shaved cat". He is very, very friendly. Goodness knows how he found his way into the bush. His name is Davo.

Another friendly newcomer is Jordan. He is way below Pearl (at floor level). He is a happy, stocky, energetic, hungry kitten who will be a delightful pet.

Gingi has been moved into Incoming because his skin is breaking out again. He is allowed to wander in the afternoon and he may be scavanging food that he is not supposed to eat. He enjoyed being carried in my arms. His condo is needed for boarders. I hope that Pearl will be adopted before the next holidays. She is getting so confident and loving.

Another kitten moved out of Incoming is Dahlia. She where Ussie used to be. Ussie was adopted over the weekend as was Chanel and Luigi. Don't think Dahlia will last long.

 Lots of vollies today. I cleaned only one condo which took a good half an hour. Some clever person had put a pot of grass on one of the upper shelves in Luigi, Maria and Princess's stand alone. Some cat knocked it over. There was dirt over everything. Plus one of the ties on their hammock had broken, and water was everywhere and the litter was mostly under the stand alone and not in the litter tray. I forgot (couldn't bear to) take a before photo. Here is the after photo to prove that they can stay clean for more than 5 minutes.

Ginger Meggs is in boarding again. He is to get play time every day. But he refused to come out of his condo today. Perhaps tomorrow. In the meantime, Milo got a good wander. Last time he was out he came when I called him. This time I had to search. He was on the very top of the boxes on top of the food shelves . . . . just to prove that he is a big, strong, athletic cat (and butter wouldn't melt in his mouth).

The surprise of the afternoon was Lucky boy. Cammy had him out on Monday afternoon and said that after an initial hiss, he was very friendly. He was the same this afternoon. He is a delightful fellow, with a kink on the end of his tail. He is good for a pat, a purr, a play and is willing to meet other cats.

But the lucky cat of the day was Maxwell. Cammy was determined to give him a bath. I was going to help with the bandaging afterwards. But the cat shampoo was locked in the medicine cabinet. He missed out.

Roger's dirty face and grubby coat is probably due to ringworm. He must have the same fungus that Maxwell had when he arrived.

 The cardboard recycle bin was still full when I left this afternoon but the other trash bin was empty. So we now have 3 rubbish bins. Bliss.

Maeve was adopted earlier in the week. A woman adopted from us a year or two ago and then had a stroke and had to give her cat back to us. She is now all ready for another cat to love. Maeve will be perfect as she only wants somebody to sit beside to purr to.

Pearl would like somebody to purr to too. She is still in the heavenly condo. And Samson has moved in below her. He has come from his foster home because they are going away, on holiday. He looks very big for 6 months!

Virgo's kittens love the play place. I cannot imagine having a litter of kittens at home. They would be all over the place at full speed constantly, unless asleep in a pile.

Ronnie and Jagger learned to climb and jump in the play place too. Ronnie likes scaling the opened-out Top Cat to get on top of the condos. But he is very easy to get down because he is exceedingly fond of food.

Luigi, Princess and Maria have moved into the main room because Hank has developed flu like symptoms. They were wheeled in their stand alones. Here they are exploring the Top Cat. They soon found the way under the stand alone to explore further. Maria was the hardest to corner. But we did it, with food in a carry cage.

And we have Cookie, Muffin and Venus next to Chia et al. One of them spent all day tucked up in the modesty sheet. They are not allowed out.

Adoption Tails: Kit Kat and Sampson, Luigi

 No new photos with these cats, unfortunately.

1 day: Both Sampson and KitKat have eaten - particularly Sampson who wasted no time once the owners left the room! They have both used the litterbox for a pee but other than that, the owners have not seen or heard them as they both still in hiding. The owners think they will be keeping both names. KitKat has not eaten the dried food so far so they may have to try a different brand.

1 week: Sampson is still scared when the owners enter the room but eats well and plays with his toys at night when all is quiet. Sometimes the owners notice his big yellow eyes glaring at them from the box that has been claimed as his favourite place when food is brought to him.

KitKat also eats well and has now started to come out. He will sit at a distance and look at the owners when they enter the room. He goes crazy playing at night that the owners could swear he had friends in the room with the amount of banging. His things are also everywhere in the morning.

 
1 month: KitKat has settled in very well and was able to venture out of his room just 2 days ago. He eats like a vacuum! Sampson is still very scared and hides when anybody enters his room but he is a little more confident with the child who does the feeding - allowing her to give a little rub on the cheek. The family is very understanding of Sampson's need for more time given his deep mistrust of humans.

1 day: Luigi spent the night in the bar (his own special room!) and had a wander around the house this morning under the owner's supervision. He was quite keen to rub himself on her legs! Luigi has not had much food and the owner is not sure if it is because he does not like when she is giving him but will take the food trialling slowly.

1 week: Luigi has been doing crosswords on the bed with his owner. He now sleeps at night on her bed and loves his food which was a relief for the owner as he was quite disinterested in the beginning. Luigi also loves sitting on window ledges and looking at the neighbours!
1 month: Luigi has settled in and taken over the house! He had a trip to the vet with an upset stomach and had an injection (got his toenails trimmed while he was there). He also has an upcoming appointment to get his teeth looked at but they are OK at the moment. Luigi is a thoroughly spoilt cat!

 Jacqui's cats have gone home so the play place is available for our cats as none of the boarders are inclined to move. I put Tiger in after Diego and Dora had a play. He liked it. Strolled about and did a big, smelly poo. Then Opie went back in overnight,

There have been adoptions. Sampson and Kit Kat have "adopted" on their condos but are still with us. Luigi has gone. He didn't even make it to the "for adoption" list! One of Mia's and Cindy of the Supermodels have also gone. So has Betty White from foster.  And SOOTY has gone to a family whose previous cat hid for 9 years. They like a quiet cat. So Helena and Kate have moved into Sooty's condo. They were not happy but they will get used to it. 

Whitney and Mary will be next to go as soon as they recover from being desexed. Whitney tried the Top Cat this afternoon. She was not keen. And went back to bed.

Later I set it up next to Nada. And she wasn't impressed (while I was watching). I hope she comes out overnight.

But Yin did unroll himself this afternoon and posed for Robyn.

And I gently held Tibby still while he ate his dinner. He pecks at the food like a bird rather than hoovering it up as most kittens do.

There is a new mum, Ruby in Incoming. She has 5 jewel named kittens about 2 weeks old. One of them has a eye that hasn't opened correctly. It needs to be bathed and anointed 3 times a day. This kitten will get very used to being handled. The mum is completely friendly. Don't know her story. 

We will have to inspect all volunteers who wear black tops as they leave to make sure that they are not trying to smuggle Margot out with them.

Don't waste a good name

 The black cat that I called Mickey because Michelle brought him in on Wednesday, had already been named Shadow.

So Katie used "Mickey" for a ginger and white cat with a sore foot. (Perhaps somebody kicked him. He is very wary and street soiled). Young Mary has cleaned herself up beautifully and is now friendly.

I spent some time brushing out Cherry's undercoat which is excessively fine and gets up your nose and everywhere else. She clung to me as I brushed her. I don't know if that was because she was so grateful to get rid of the fluff or because she felt exposed down at ground level.  I imagine that her owners will think that we have starved her when they pick her up on Sunday because she looks slimmer,

And I brushed Yuki in the hopes that it might get her adopted. She tolerated it for a minute and then had had enough before I could get to her bib.

 We have new cats.

Luigi is friendly but desperate to go somewhere else. He tells us that he doesn't belong here. He needs to go. He has burrs caught in his rather grubby fur.

Tiger is a surrendered Ragdoll who is very thin. He is on a special hypoallergenic diet. We are feeding him often to try to build him up. He has lovely green eyes, no stripes and is quite chilled out. .  or is he just weak?

Chester is new in Incoming. Don't know his story but he looks as though he might tell it.

And Michelle who has supplied us with cats before, brought in a cat who has recently joined the cat colony that she looks after. She finally managed to trap him last night after 6 days of not feeding the colony cats in order to get him hungry enough to go into the trap. Tuna did it today. He is black and was being picked on by the other cats in the colony. . . . probably because he is an entire male and the colony's dominant male saw him as a threat. He is a good looking black boy but didn't want his photo taken. I called him Mickey.

 

I pushed the Top Cat to Max's condo but he wouldn't get out of bed to come out. So I moved it to Lucky's condo. She stuck her head out but stayed in.

We were more successful with the play place. Tried out Macy who didn't mind it but prefers to be paid homage to in her stand alone.

And Opie was wheeled in. He walked all around, looked out the window, and as soon as I appeared with some crunchies, hopped back into his stand alone so we wheeled him back to his corner. 

Later on he made a dash for freedom, shot out of the hall door with me in pursuit. While he was trying to decide whether to make a dash out the front door or to explore Incoming, I shoved him back through the hall door and closed him in. He investigated the desk. I walked around it and picked him up and popped him back into his stand alone. He is not such a bossy boy.

Joy did an extra shift on Saturday and had to put her glasses on to read something and inevitably left them behind. I just want to know if these are her's because I have brought them home to give them to her next Wednesday. Recently Joy and Vi visited Coco the Burmese adopted by her friend Barbara and got sat on.

Bambi and Luigi went home today (3 days later than originally booked). They have spent the last few days in the play place and they had a poo party last night. Knowing that the owners were coming today, I put on gloves to mop the play place floor before opening time. Good thing that I did because, on arrival, they immediately wanted to see their favourite cats. Then they, mother and daughter, exclaimed over Coco the rabbit. Having been taught by our intern, I picked her up and put her on the daughter's lap. They had a lovely, long cuddle. Evidently the family has had two rabbits before. One died of a liver complaint brought on by overeating. The other, an entire male, used to come in and out of the laundry door but eventually didn't come back for meals regularly, and then not at all. They have photos and videos to prove to dad that a rabbit is a good addition to their family. Luigi was giving Coco nose bumps at breakfast time. And Coco loves Jacky's dog who visits on Mondays. So fingers crossed.

All was going smoothly until Catsie stumbled coming off the short ladder and landed on the side of her head. The handle of her specs broke off and she has a lump which will develop into a stunning black eye. Sandy drove her home and Catsie's car will be picked up tomorrow some how or other.
