Adoption Tails: Chikka, Oreo, Duchess

 Chikka

Chikka at Safe

1 day
: Chikka is wonderful. The owner does not believe she has used the litterbox yet. There is lots of water and 2 litter trays set up. She has also added some water to the wet food. Chikka slept on the lounge last night and did not come near her although the door was left open. The owner was planning on blocking off access to the first floor balcony so that Chikka cannot jump down. She has now retracted her ideas given Chikka's large amount of white (especially on her nose and ears) that increases likelihood of developing skin cancer so she will remain an indoor cat as far as her new family is concerned.1 week: Chikka is an adorable cat, settled within a few hours. The owner is adhering to the diet as recommended and Chikka has no complaints.1 month: Chikka is very happy. The owner is having her claws cut by the Greencross vets close by and will get her weighed and then monitor her weight from now on. Chikka is sticking to her diet and finds it is quite enough

Artie, previously Oreo

1 day: The daughter has decided Oreo needed a more "dignified" name so the family is trying out Arty/Artie (short for Artemis). They will keep us updated on the name. Everything is going well. Arty seems happy, eating well and located the litter tray successfully! He is very playful and keen to explore. They are following the guidance for introducing him to the family dog so at the moment, the two are separated which is not popular with either of them - Arty wants to get out his room and explore all the time and when he meows, the dog gets very excited. The family will carry on the slow introduction and think it will be fine eventually, once the novelty wears off for the doggo. Arty does not seem one bit worried about the dog.

Artie, aka Oreo

1 week: Artie seems very settled, really friendly and exploring the house when he gets the chance. Unfortunately, the family dog is not taking this well, the family is persisting with the distanced introductions for a few minutes 2-3 times a day. There is possibly some improvement, the dog has come down from complete crazy to whining and pulling on lead. Artie is fairly unbothered by it all and watches from somewhere at a distance. The family lets Artie have free run of the house when the dog is out walking and he has his own room with the door shut.

1 month: Everything is going well. There is still a little chasing from the family dog but more because of wanting to play than anything aggressive. Artie holds his own and hops out of the way when he has had enough!

Angel, previously Duchess

1 day: Duchess has been renamed to Angel. She's a beautiful girl. She spent the first 2 hours or so hiding but came out to explore pretty soon after this. She's been eating, drinking and using the litter tray. At night, she spent some time by the windowsill. Angel is very calm, not a troublemaker, and the owners adore her!

Angel = Duchess

1 week: Angel is good, starting to be more playful and cheeky. She brings so much joy to their lives.1 month: "It's been a month since our beautiful girl appeared in our lives. We love her so much, she brings so much happiness, joy and love to our lifestyle!" The owners are very happy to have found her. Angel has settled in well, she is very cheerful and sometimes quite vocal. She is doing well in her home, very playful and loves to hunt and tear the pieces of paper the owners throw for her. She loves her food and treats and has even learnt to "sit" upon request when fed by hand. "She is definitely Mummy's girl!"

Traffic chaos

I was very late today because all the traffic from the beaches had been channeled into Mona Vale Road. We crawled up the hill. I could have walked faster. But it was rather nice to have the time to examine the rock walls and the ferns and the waterfalls cascading down the man-made drains.

Nevertheless, I got to SAFE before the garbos had come so got rid of lots of poo bags. There had been a clean out of the junk room/store room over the weekend which generated bags of old towels, mattress covers, etc, etc. I binned some of them too. Some I put on the shelves which are now full. Others I gave to a vollie who is about to become a WIRES vollie and the price of that membership is some old towels, pillowslips, cloths, etc. She went off very happy to have found a source.

The clean out of the store room is because it will become the Isolation Room when we get John's play room just to the right of our front door. This is supposed to happen in 7 days. Imagine!

The cleaning crew got through their work in record time. Not being able to play with the cats makes it much faster. I got my kitty cuddle by having to move Ginger George into the main cat room because he is now available for adoption again. We both enjoyed the cuddle.
Ginger George

He is in Chikka's condo because she was adopted this morning. (I wasn't aware that she was available until she was gone.) She went with an older woman whose cat has recently died and she can't be happy without a cat.

On Sunday Demi and Winnie were adopted. Their stand alone was set up to receive Paul tomorrow at 11am. I understand that he was the second cat that we adopted. It must have happened before we got these premises. There is no record of him on this blog. His name has been changed to Mr Milo.

The condo cards say that there are 9 tiny kittens where Yin and Yan used to be. I didn't see them. So far they well. We need to keep strict parvo protocols to ensure that they stay uninfected. Chanel will be coming back soon as she is much improved but some other kittens in Incoming are not well.

Irresistable Peach

They came back early to get Peach today. She didn't really want to get into a carry cage but luckily Tim did the adoption and the transfer so no blood was shed. Here is the proof:

"Please Clean" on Pearch's condo

You can tell it was in the later part of the afternoon because Yin and Yan are out on observation duty. There is a plan afoot to move them to the pair of condo's with the connecting hatch currently occupied by Lucky and Suki.

A couple came in today looking for a "bonded" pair. They were after Midnight and Pumpkin but as they don't want the cats until Feb 20. . . . that train has left the station. They will keep an eye on the website between now and then now that they have met everybody.

If the move of Yin and Yan works well, I suggested that Sydney be added to the mixture so that that family of boys can be reunited.

Chikka has been moved to next to Max (on the other side from Libby)

Chikka
She was a bit shocked. She had been in boarding and Rosanna let her out for a wander this afternoon. Salazar spotted her and chirruped in a very suggestive manner.

Archie was adopted yesterday (or Thursday) by the person who was going to foster him. Chessy has moved into his condo. She has had some changes in the last week or so! (From male to female, desexed, moved).

Chessy

She is now next to Rebel who was playing with his ping pong ball after chicken time.

Rebel
A pile of cat carriers went to the vet for check ups this afternoon: Jolene, the little kitten in Incoming with the underdeveloped legs, Tiger with the funny tummy and Puss with no teeth.

I done it

I stole what was left of the bar of soap from the lady's loo downstairs. When I arrived the washer-upper was struggling with half a sink full of bubbles and no water. My solution is to "wash your hands" with a bar of soap in the bubbles. They all burst and wash down the sink quite quickly. I promise I will buy another bar of soap for the downstairs Ladies. (We stashed what is left of the bar of soap with the syringe bodies behind the bleach spray bottle).

I got my Tabbys and Tibbys confused.

This is Tabby, the wonky one, who loves to run:

Tabby
Tibby is the quieter upstairs one. She rather likes a scrunch on the back of her neck and to play in a large plastic bag.
Tibby

Continuing the theme of the double letters in names:

Libby has come out of her carrier. She is around 14 years old. Don't know her history except that she was surrendered. She seems very sweet. And likes chicken. She is above Ginger (George) who loves to stroll around the cattery in the afternoon, demanding attention, stealing dropped crunchies from under Opie's stand alone and generally being charming.

Libby
Meggsie has been to the vet to have a lump cut from his neck. . .. and several teeth removed. It has made him rotate by 90 degrees. And look! a clean blankie!
Meggsy

There is another friendly surrender in Incoming. She came from the home of a lady who died and the family wasn't around to take care of the cat promptly. So she was taken by a neighbour to be bait for his dog!!! Luckily she was rescued. When she, Chikka came to us she had a "beware of the cat" sign. But this afternoon she was as sweet as she could be. (Chicken magic!)

And then there is Sunny who has boarded with us before. She never likes the settling in process and grumbles for a few days. This time she, if she only knew it, has something to grumble about. Her people have gone home.. . overseas. She is to follow them in a fortnight. . . . on an airplane. I imagine that the passengers on that plane will worry about a strange noise coming from the pressurized cargo hold/starboard engine.
