Names . . . . we need more

Robin came in this afternoon with a bag of mice to share.

Robin with mice
She watches a show about a bloke who rehomes African lions. They all have names, African and otherwise which we could use for our cats this coming kitten season. I have asked her to make us an alphabetical list. They can't be worse than the names we got today: Scratch and Itch.
Scratch
Itch is the shyer of the ginger pair. David tells me that these names are famous for characters in some cartoon/TV show that I have never come across.

They are where Nala was. So Panda has a neighbour now and Autumn can chat to them across the way.

The A kittens have come back from the vets except for the two "wildest" ones who have gone to foster. So we have the boys in the stand alone in the Transit lane: Atlas and Apollo are both black and Adonis is black and white. They are all shy.

Artemis has relaxed somewhat since Wednesday. But her sister is very nervous and all by herself, for now.

Peanut went to the vet and had all her teeth removed. Her new owner will never have to pay for veterinary dental bills, which must be a relief. She is still keen to adopt her. I found some glam mousse for Peanut tonight which she enjoyed. She is upstairs in "boarding".

This morning's vollies all said goodbye to Alex who will be adopted tomorrow afternoon!

International Day of the Cat, 2026

Mona Vale Vet hosted a celebration of the day and Irene organised a visitation by some of our cats.

She was going to take all three C kittens but a young man came at 10am to get a kitten as a surprise for his girlfriend and as a treat to go with their existing boy cat. He fell in love with Crystal. And took her home. The remaining 2 C girls went to the celebration and only one came back as the other was adopted. Only Caroline left now.

She also took Kiwi who has gone home on appro with the vet nurse.

Soon after they left for the celebration, an older lady came in to meet Enzo. Her most beloved cat died recently and she needs a cat. She loved Enzo on our website. But, Enzo was not impressed with her. So I introduced her to Nala who, most uncharacteristically, turned herself inside out to impress the person. She purred, flashed her fabulous whiskers, jumped up a level, etc, etc. The lady was entranced.

Then I suggested that we meet Minke just to have met all the possibles. And the lady fell in love. Minke lapped it up. Match made in heaven. Minke will live happily ever after.

Minke

Susie and Sirocco didn't go the the celebration so they are still with us. (And Susie has shed her collar since Joy took these photos on Wednesday. Thanks Joy.)

Shy ones appear

There was a happy crew of vollies today and after they left the cats were eager to interact.

Persephone was introduced to THE shoulder. She knew just what to do. (Must have seen my blog posts).

Later in the afternoon, she seriously napped to recover from the thrill of smelling Mayavan's hair.

Persephone
Tahlia, who arrived from the western suburbs on Wednesday turned on a show for Robin who visited this afternoon. Look at these whiskers! And an orange leg to display when she joy rolled. Not to mention the green eyes.

Later in the afternoon, I had a loving time with Nala! Up to now she has hidden and pointedly refused food. Today she jumped up to her ledge, licked the blankey and allowed me to pat her.

Her neighbour, Muffin has devised a new game. You poke your finger against the sheet covering her stand alone and she tries to pounce on your finger. It is an endless game.

On our website it says that she is tail-less. But she does have a very cute, short, pompom tail.

New vollies

We had two today. And yesterday (while I filled in in the afternoon) a potential vollie came to check us out. She stayed for ages but decided to join the team. There will be training tomorrow, I understand, as lots of locals have shown interest.

No visitors or adoptions but we had a phone call from a woman who would like to foster Ravyn for 2 days in order to make a decision about adopting her! We routinely advise folk to allow 3 months for a cat to settle into a new home.

Anthea dropped by in the afternoon to socialize the cats. I think she only intended to stay a short while but she stayed all afternoon. Muffin enjoyed several sessions.

And Nala ignored her attempts to make friends. I carried Nala downstairs yesterday. I thought that putting her into a carry cage would just upset both of us so picked her up in her fluffy bed, held the opening against my stomach and walked down to the stand alone where Cosmo and C-friend were. (Have they gone to a foster home?)
Nala
Today she was still sulking. I don't think she has eaten anything since she arrived even though she was provided with food by her previous owners along with all kinds of toys and "stuff".

All the C kittens went to be desexed but only the 2 boys came back. The vets didn't have time to do the girls. They should be home tomorrow morning. The boys are delightful.

We do have some handsome male cats.

Quiet Friday

There were enough vollies and I got there early and coped with the poo bags. When you open the door to the verandah there are none left of the great pile that took up almost all of the floor space. But, that is deceptive. There are poo bags behind the door. They are the oldest ones from the bottom of the pile and should be taken away first, please.

We didn't have any visitors. Angel's person came yesterday to adopt her and will pick her up on Sunday as planned.

So I had time to let cats wander and to take photos of Katie's cats. . . . just in case Katie would like to see their happy faces.

Luna has the celestial condo where she happily hides

Nala is below her where she can chat to all passers-by

Frank is at knee level so when he looks up you can see he amazing blue eyes
Dolly and

Zane are next door

Mali used to have a boarding Burmese upstairs. It is quieter without the boarder.

Kimmy doesn't mind the noise. She makes enough of her own.

Cleo is regally quiet.

But Sundae is anybody's for a pat.

Josie's 2 kittens are fine. She is an attentive mum and has learned very quickly that mums get more food.

Sabrina's kittens were in the play place. The tabbies/white ones are friendly and playful.

Sabrina's tabbys

But the black and white ones are hiding. And in the Nursery/isolation they were the ones (or one of them was the one) who always screamed "FEED ME" at the window whenever somebody looked at him/her. Now look at them!

Sabrina has been separated from them to wean them. They are out of ringworm quarantine.

Betty is struggling along with her seven and lack of appetite. Chicken helped this afternoon. So I left a bunch for her and some cats missed out (but not Lola who follows me around).

Adoptions to report

I could save the best until last but can't help myself.

Blossom was adopted this morning.

Her new person is an elderly woman (and her two mature daughters.) They have had a problem cat before and are happy about her health status.
Blossom didn't like being put into a carry cage. I had suggested that we swap the short, tight one that they brought with a taller, pink one that was given to me. Even though I put a piece of my mother-in-law's hand embroidered tablecloth in for her to sit on, she still didn't like to be put into it. But didn't complain once she was there.

And the smallest A kitten was adopted: Annabelle
Annabelle
And, two of the F kittens, a boy and a girl. The names had not been assigned to any particular kitten so Tim just chose to call the adopted ones Fred (except that he changed that because of Freda and called him Flint or some such) and Flame. So I have wiped those two names off the white card on their rolly cage.

 F kittens

Feral Street:
Marmalade, the ginger kitten in the far condo by the wall has got himself out of that condo for the last couple of nights. Generally he let himself back in so that he was there when Tim arrived in the morning. But today he didn't get back into his condo. Tim caught him and put him into an Ingleside condo. He won't be able to wiggle the door until it opens there. He is above where Annabelle was. While he was out he left two very sloppy calling cards and a yellow puddle in the boarders row that I sterilized. You can eat your lunch from that bit of floor now.
I cleaned his old condo and you wouldn't believe the build up of dirty paw prints on the lower edges of the doors! He must have worked for hours to get it open.

His Clare fellow rescue cats, all gingers, are not happy.

Apricot

Dorito
Dorito is the friendliest of them, but is not well.

The pregnant cat I collected on Saturday from Liverpool is still pregnant.

Nala?Neil has been put in his own condo and was prepared to be patted but not to be photographed. His nose needs a good clean before he is put on record.
