Prime news

He got adopted this afternoon! He gave the perfect demonstration of how food driven he is: I put a few crunchies in a cat carrier and he climbed straight in!

Quite a few other cats were adopted over the weekend including Mr Bigglesworth and Aimee. I moved Emma (one eyed Emma) into Aimee's condo. And Zorro moved into the condo above Mr B's because Sunny and Hilda have been moved to Isolation because of the ringworm spot on Sunny's ear. We are being especially careful to not cross contaminate cats. Which means: no cuddles after the cleaning work is done.

Zorro happy to be out of Iso.
We got cats from Collaroy Vets: Bella and Pippin are older cats, (12 and 10 yo rspvy). They are not necessarily bonded.

Bella and Pippin
And Pirate Pete who looks like a sweetie even though he is missing one of his back feet.

Pirate Pete
We have an enormous ragdoll boarder. He is in the Palace and makes it look small.

Goodbye Ginger George

He was adopted today by a woman who has always owned cats (and or dogs) who lives in a retirement community in the Hills district. He will be renamed Tommy. Her friend adopted another Ginger from us some time ago and is very happy with him. Lots of photos on her phone showed how much he is loved and pampered.

Ginger George's new woman plans to train him to walk on a lead. I told her that she wouldn't have any trouble, tried to illustrate how easily he cooperates but he, cat-like, didn't cooperate at all. But she knows that she will get around him and take him up to the residential section of the village to be introduced to all the oldies there. Won't he love that!

And there is a stream in the gardens that she will walk him to. And trees to admire. And lots and lots of love to be had.

Ginger George soon to be Tommy

Gingi, in Incoming, is ready and willing to step into Ginger George's shoes.

Tia has gone up on the adoption list. Geoff offered a bet that she wouldn't be still here in a week. Nobody took him up on it because she is grey and smoochy.

And Bella says.. .  "grey schmey. . . . black is beautiful" and "why is my bowl empty?"

My finger looks like chicken

I was late getting around to handing out the chicken this afternoon. We had a delivery of litter after we had used up the very last bag. (Thank you M).

Just because there is a big pile, please don't use more than you absolutely have to.

Madeline was picked up. Katie always worries that Madeline will die when she is boarding with us because she is over 19 years old. And the C-kitten with possible ringworm went home as well. There is a sign on her condo that it be cleaned with bleach. Tim couldn't see any fluorescence when he shined the Wood's lamp on her lesion. But that only works 50% of the time. They should take her to the vet to have a skin scraping taken. The results won't come back for 3 weeks. In the meantime, Vivienne and Calvin are "no touch" cats.

Milo is still with us. His new person (one of our vollies) is moving house. We must warn her that he will find somewhere high to hide. I had him out for a short while this afternoon and he immediately went to the top of the condos to find a carrier to hide in.

Milo at ground level

We tried the Top Cat on Biscuit and then on Bella. Neither ventured out even when temped with treats.

Bella
But I had a first sighting of Charlie. He came out of the carry case that has been his home for the past month, at least A friend wants a pair of cats. . . . .
Charlie and Champ

The other Charlie in Incoming was at the vet this afternoon having an operation. He survived that but didn't recover from the anesthetic.

Chicken was late with all this. One of the black Rolling Stones, who are getting much bolder, mistook my finger for chicken while I was pushing pieces through the play place mesh. Chomp. . . drip, drip, drip.

Jolene is boarding

Her new owner picked her up as planned but then a pipe burst in her apartment so Jolene is staying with us for a week while it is fixed. The vollies were overjoyed. She got lots of cuddles. She wears a very fetching pink collar which matches her ears.

This morning a couple arrived to look at Prada (adopted over the weekend), Milo and Baloo who walked straight into their hearts. Their 20year old cat died late last year and they were ready to fall in love. Baloo was IT. They got the urinary problems are common in cats especially in highly (in-)bred ones lecture and went away very happy.

Baloo last week

We have a new B cat who lives where Tiger used to be: ie beside Biscuit and above Bissie. She came from a vet where there were barking dogs and she attacked the vet nurses. She seems as sweet as she can be with us. Her back end is bronzed.
Bella
Because Baloo vacated the stand alone, Maxwell moved in. He came into quarantine with rampant ring worm but is all good now. He likes to chat. All you have to do is look at him and he will talk to you.

Maxwell
Salazar is settling into his AWL condo slowly. The vet decided that he has a dicky heart as well as a warty chin. He wouldn't survive chin surgery. We should offer him to somebody who wants a fragile but super-loving cat to foster.
Salazar

Saffron has moved into Salazar's old digs above Bassuria and Julie. He looks somewhat overwhelmed. His owner visited over the weekend and is adamant that we not "give him away" to anybody else. He is still boarding with us.

Oops, late blog

Sorry to keep you waiting. I went to a lecture in Chatswood after closing up shop at the cattery today. It was about an ambassador's wife who made the most of being in the Middle East for her inspiration to make amazing quilts.

No adoptions today.
But a woman brought in her daughter to check on Peppa. But she wasn't in the cattery. We thought we had booked her and tabby Amelia in for desex yesterday. But the vet practice disclaimed all knowledge of the booking.  They did agree to keep them for a day and do them today. So Peppa wasn't home when her prospective new owner came to visit. I showed them Blueberry who put on a star turn, cuddled in their arms and purred. So now they can't decide between Peppa and Blueberry.

Blueberry all ready to go

Then a man arrived to meet Tabitha. I know him from at least a dozen years ago when he adopted a cat from us at Peggy Brown's. At Peggy's AWL branch we used to let folk choose kittens before they were ready for adoption. The prospective owners would come by every weekend to play with "their" kitten. It helped the bond to form. The kitten that this man chose unfortunately died while being desexed. It can happen. He was convinced that we had sold "his" kitten to somebody else until I convinced him that it was just an unfortunate death.

He eventually chose another kitten and has lived happily with her for over a decade. But recently she died and he is ready to choose another cat for him and his mum to love. l think Tabitha will be perfect. He spent lots of time talking to her and patting her. He took lots of photos to show his mum. They will be back. She enjoyed the attention so much that she made a very rare appearance at her window later in the afternoon.

Tabatha

Valentino came in to board for the weekend. He is just as wonderful as ever.

Valentino
He settled into the condo next to Libby who was taken home. Her new owner was concerned that she might get confused because they have only had her for a month. She came from Monika's Doggy Rescue.

I noticed today that Mayka as white socks on her back legs. She is much more relaxed these days.

Mayka
So there is hope for Bella and Lulu who have come in from a foster home, Dynamo and Rosie and Callie who have moved out of their cat carrier but no further than its roof.

Phantoms and angels

When I arrived, early, the phantom streaker was singing in the shower. I can now report that he is a male to match his long footprints. The angels arrived throughout the morning to fill in and help out. Thankyou especially Catsie and Ros. Because of all of you, I was about to take it easy and leave on time with the cattery looking tidy as well as clean. Riley thought the ghost of Christmases to come had caught up with him when a decoration got caught around his neck. We cut it off and he relaxed.
When I arrived Harry and Harley had been in the play place overnight. Somebody else's turn. So I wheeled their stand alone cage into the play place, put their breakfast into it and waited until they were busy eating to close their door. During the day Bobby and Doel had a turn. Bobby loved it. Better yet when somebody sat with him so he could get more attention. Doel seems to resent the amount of attention he gets but was quite happy to be patted.
Harley the girl, had a lovely time and welcomed company of patters. But Bridie didn't like it although she did put up with cuddles to compensate.
There are new cats in incoming including five big kittens only one of which is on show. You can see another guarding the entrance to the communal box. These are the kittens of Santa Maria who is very shy and is in Incoming as well. She didn't eat at all today.
There is George (ginger) and Lechusa (tortie) where Bobby and Doel were. She stays mostly in one box or the other.
There is a family of four kittens who have moved to where Mia and Bella were:
Because Mia and Bella have been adopted. Their people returned the dog carrier they borrowed to take them home. It seems the cats have decided to hide under the buffet . . . . in a space smaller than a mouse. I gave them a feather toy to entice them out. If that doesn't work I gave them the left over chichen necks from today. If they had been in residence there wouln't have been any left overs. And Mimi was picked up this morning. She went into their carrier without any fuss. (Admititedly, I had not given her any crunchies at breakfast time but scattered some in their carrier. It might have helped). So it has been a fabulous weekend for adoptions with homes found for Anthony and Cleopatra, Cooper, Miyuki, Lillian (foster home), Lily, Mia, Bella and Mimi. Roll on the lockdown.

Incoming welcome

Now that we do not have any sick cats who need to be isolated, the outer office has an "Incoming" area. With occupants who must have come in last night after I talked to Tim at 4:45 pm. They are Whisky and Socksie (who should have been named Scotchie with a brother named Whiskey!) They take their job of welcoming seriously.
There were 81 cats in house despite the number adopted over the weekend. I had plenty of volunteers to fill in the gaps of Rod having to leave early to get his jab, and Katey arriving late because she has been worked hard housesitting dogs. But Catsie dropped by to help so everybody was happy. The Hungergames kittens (formerly the Gooey eyed kittens) are in the play place because all bar two of Silky's kittens are left and one of them, Sage has been adopted and will be picked up on the weekend. The Hungergames kittens are great purrers so should be snapped up quickly. A couple inspected each available cat/kitten this afternoon to choose a companion for their 2yr old girl cat and he liked Dale (Hungergame boy) but she liked the grey Japanese. So they went away to think about it.
Another couple came to get a little kitten. Any little kitten. The littler the better. The grey and white fluffy Japanese kitten appealed to her but he perhaps wanted something smaller. They may come back later. I did not show them Honey's kittens who are deliciously little. Barb Webster, who visited later, would have taken them home except that she knows how much work tiny kittens are.
Robyn had a lovely time with "her" litter. Button was not interested in eating today. But Belle is.
Just in case you wondered, Ashleigh is still with us. She looked perfectly relaxed on top of her carry cage this afternoon until I put the camera against her perspex to get a good photo. Too close, Prue.
And Mia and Bella still love each other despite the fact that they really need to be adopted. They would love each other much more if they had a little more space.

Replacement cats

I did a nose count this morning and there were 81 cats including 1 boarder (who went home at lunchtime) despite all the adoptions over the weekend. New on the scene is Apricot who is quite shy.
Roscoe is anything but shy. Don't know what his story is but he is around 6 months old and very loving.
And Misty is very friendly too. I had to hold her while her condo was being cleaned and it was not a hard job at all. She had wee'd under her litter tray. We hope it was just a mistake not a habit.
Sammy and Sandra are in a stand alone which I put where Lily was because they seemed overwhelmed being beside the desk with all the people walking to and fro in front of them. Don't know their story either but they seem sweet.
Catsie dropped by and was soon in the play place to try to humanise Silky's kittens. They did learn to play but kept one eye on me, the feeder, at all times. I tied a hook to the cross bar by their door so that you can keep the door closed from the inside instead of bending your fingers through the bars to try to get to the bolt. Try it.
Magnus had his diseased eye removed yesterday. Today it was a bit swollen below the eye but the vet expected that. It didn't seem extreme by the end of the day and he was happy enough to be fed and made a fuss of. He does like a good pat. Joy will probably take some good photos of Cooper, Chloe and Lily who arrived last week. They are a bit shy and Lily has a squeek rather than a meow. It may just be nerves. One of the others has a lump on his/her left ear that Joy will need to document.
Sabrina's kittens were desexed today as was Skylar (who weighted in at 1.04Kg this morning). Sabrina's boys went crazy when they got home. They exploded the water bowl so that everything was saturated including themselves. We dried them off, put the water bowl into a small litter tray. And then they did it again! Sabrina and Rosie just sat and watched the crazy critters. One potential adopter came looking for a boy kitten and decided that Mia was for her. She will phone Tim tomorrow to see if she can go and Bella stay.

As is drinking

In his excitement to get a bit of BBQ chicken this afternoon, Magnus knocked over his (full) water bowl. Perhaps he was trying to wash the salty-ness of BBQ chicken down. His downstairs floor was flooded. I don't think it diminshed his enthusiasm for chicken. The bandage on the end of his tail is off. He went to Dr Chris to have it looked at. All is well. The eye needs a specialist appointment. But before that, when I arrived, before touching any fluey cats, I wanted to give Tara lots of love. She hasn't been eating her crunchies and only eats her wet food slowly. So I took the brush to her which she thoroughly enjoyed. She even let me brush her tail (which had knots) and purred throughout. We had a lovely time. She wouldn't eat a bit of chicken that I gave to her as a "thanks for the cuddle" but, I noticed that she had eaten it when I came back later. I came back because a young, red headed couple came in looking for a kitten. They work from home so want somebody to be a lap cat and play thing. We have a lot of cats available at the moment. Olsen/Olsanne is available as are Candy and Collette (but not on the website yet).
I can't get a photo of them together because Candy doesn't like Collette and Collette is more interested in running than people. Starmoon is available. And Amber, Opal and Jet will be up soon. I think they need to be separated to be "humanised".
Bridie isn't, yet. But she is prepared to have pats, and chicken.
The young couple looked at everybody. They liked Christopher until we got to Tara who turned on her purr and charmed them. They think that she sounds like a frog. Of course, they have to get permission from the strata body to have a cat. The landlord is willing. They know that Tara will sulk for weeks, if not months, at the change of venue. But it looks good to me. I put Mia and Bella in the play place. They rather liked it. . . Mia more than Bella. But the liking was associated with chicken and cat milk. Mia was easy to take back to her newly redecorated wheely but Belle had to be extracted somewhat forcefully from her hidey hole. They are to go as a bonded pair. Perhaps a dependent pair would be a better description.
