Adoption Tails: Fern, Jupiter and Venus

  Fern

1 day: Fern is doing really well. Eating, drinking and use her litter tray, and playing. She only hid for a short while, then explored her room. she was a bit agitated last night, but seems very calm today. The owner just had a big cuddle on the bed... Fern came to her for it. She is very keen to explore outside her room but the owner is keeping her in for the weekend at least. They are likely to change her name to Missy but their 7 year old is being indecisive about it.

1 week: Fern has been renamed Missy. She's settling in really well. Now has full run of the house after 1.5 weeks. Transitioned well out of the one room. Very affectionate. Missy has a bit of a bad habit of climbing on bench tops though. Loves her zoomies. She seems to not be interested in wet food much at all but eats plenty of dry food and drinks plenty of water. The owner loves her to bits but unfortunately her daughter is having a hard time adjusting to having a cat. An innate fear has been hard to overcome. They are working on it and will update on it.

1 month: no response. [We hope that no news is good news].

Jupiter

1 day: Jupiter is settling very well in the study, being very playful and much adored by the family. He has not eaten very much and has had diarrhoea but behaviourally, he is very active.

1 week: Jupiter is hunting in the jungle that is the owner's desk. He is eating well, getting bolder and no runs.

1 month: No response. [Ditto]

Venus

1 day

1 day: The owner and her mother have renamed Venus to Bowie after the name Atticus not sticking in the mother's mind. Bowie is eating and peeing but not pooping yet. He slept on the couch last night and is getting used to new surroundings and new smells. He began talking to the owners today. His chirps are a breath of fresh air!

1 week: This morning the owner woke up with Bowie resting his head on her pillow, lying beside her. He has spent the last 3 nights in bed with her! He loves playing with his catnip filled fishing rod and red-light mouse.

1 month: Bowie completely saved the owner and her mother. The two were very depressed before he came into their lives. He has put on some weight since recovering from the flu and loves to sleep with the owner on the bed all night. He allows the owner to wipe his crusty eyes when he had the flu and loves all the affection he is receiving.

 The only photo I took today was of these glasses.

Joy did an extra shift on Saturday and had to put her glasses on to read something and inevitably left them behind. I just want to know if these are her's because I have brought them home to give them to her next Wednesday. Recently Joy and Vi visited Coco the Burmese adopted by her friend Barbara and got sat on.

Bambi and Luigi went home today (3 days later than originally booked). They have spent the last few days in the play place and they had a poo party last night. Knowing that the owners were coming today, I put on gloves to mop the play place floor before opening time. Good thing that I did because, on arrival, they immediately wanted to see their favourite cats. Then they, mother and daughter, exclaimed over Coco the rabbit. Having been taught by our intern, I picked her up and put her on the daughter's lap. They had a lovely, long cuddle. Evidently the family has had two rabbits before. One died of a liver complaint brought on by overeating. The other, an entire male, used to come in and out of the laundry door but eventually didn't come back for meals regularly, and then not at all. They have photos and videos to prove to dad that a rabbit is a good addition to their family. Luigi was giving Coco nose bumps at breakfast time. And Coco loves Jacky's dog who visits on Mondays. So fingers crossed.

All was going smoothly until Catsie stumbled coming off the short ladder and landed on the side of her head. The handle of her specs broke off and she has a lump which will develop into a stunning black eye. Sandy drove her home and Catsie's car will be picked up tomorrow some how or other. 

PS Adoptions over the weekend included Courtney, Ginger (never made it onto the website adoption page), McCartney and Starr, Violet and Fern (who is still with us).

Flu largely gone

It worked . . . . either my blog title from last week or the antibiotics . . . . but we are largely free of flu at the moment. Ginge and Sabrina are still sneezing but Florence is clear headed and full of bounce. As is Ricki. And all the snufflers in Welfare, including Dynamo, are much better. But we almost lost Star on Saturday. Terry was in today being, as usual, our hero by delivering a full load of litter from Arundel Park. He said that at 5pm last Saturday, Star suddenly couldn't breathe. Luckily Dr Kim was in her surgery and dealt with the problem. Star is on very fancy antibiotics and looks well today. All bar one of her kittens are off flu treatment.

Now that these kittens are getting used to us and more friendly, I must figure out who is who.

As usual, I didn't get around to taking any photos. Luckily Joy was in. Her photos are much better than mine because I use a camera and she has a fancy phone.

 The coffee shop kittens were in the play place when I arrived. (Thanks to the poo bag fairy who only left 5 bags for me to schlepp out to the garbage cans). They hopped back into their wheely cage for breakfast and spent the day supervising from the front door. 

Fern, Linda and Yoko, Mayka had turns in the play place before the Coffee kittens went back overnight.

Nobody was adopted over the weekend but Myrtle and Wanda went earlier this week. Myrtle went with an older man who came in a couple of weeks ago. His was a considered choice. Myrtle came out of her shell very well in the interim. And Wanda was adopted by an older woman. Almost all of the cats in Welfare are available for adoption now. There are 36 cats and one rabbit listed on our website!

And today, there was an emailed enquiry about Coco, the rabbit. Somebody wants a companion for their lop ear boy who has lost his mate recently but plays nicely with the puppy, has full run of the house and is getting the garden rabbit proofed! Sounds perfect. So I gave her extra cuddles today . . . just in case.

Close shave

 Hana got out of her condo yesterday evening and spent the night "on the town". There was food scattered all along Naughty Row. It gives me a shock when I arrive to a condo with both its doors opened. But I ignored them and got on with my routine of taking out the garbage bags before the garbos arrived (24 of them) and feeding the starving hordes. I was careful to keep the doors closed to out the back so was confident that she "must be here somewhere". I looked high first. No signs (and there is plenty of dust for her pawprints). Last place I looked was under the laundry shelves. Under the bottom bath mats shelf there was something fluffy. When I touched it, a growl came from the shelf. Found! I put her carrier in front of the shelf, covered and cozy and went to the next room for a while. 

Fifteen minutes later, she had moved into the carrier and got taken back to her condo. She wasn't very happy to be home.

Hana

The man who "rescued" Max and Gus from his work place rang to ask how they are getting along. He rang just when Sandy was offering them some chicken. I took some photos to send to him. I have asked him who is whom.

We have another grey and white surrendered cat like Suzie who is settling down well.

The new one is Fern. She is very friendly but horrified and shocked at not being where she belongs.
