Mittens, previously Diamond

1 day: Diamond has been renamed to Mittens. The girls have fallen in love with him.     
1 week: Diamond (now Mittens) got his tail caught in their reclining chair, they took him to Northside Emergency Vet and they said the tail needed to be amputated. SAFE agreed to help pay for the surgery and transferred him to the affiliated Vet-O Brookvale.

1 month: Mittens is the most loving perfect little fit for their family. Although he had a rough start here, he is so loving and loved by everybody in the family. The owner is so happy with SAFE and has told many people about SAFE.

Nature, previously Emerald

1 day: Emerald has been renamed to Nature. She is looking better than the owner expected. She did spend quite a bit of time under the bed and sofa. Currently, she is purring and sleeping next to the owner.

1 week: Nature is really naughty. Willing to play with the owner and even wake them up in the morning. She is really enjoying her time at her new home and already very familiar with it.

Ace, previously Sapphire

1 day: Sapphire is now called Ace. He is settling in fine, loves the attention and sleeping in the bed with us. He has been eating, drinking and using his litter tray.
3 day: Ace is in the bedroom and resident cat has the rest of the house. Resident cat will hiss and make noises at Ace. The owner was wondering how much attention to give to each cat and has been forwarded SAFE's guide to introducing cats for clarity and emphasised the concept of cat territory and resources.

1 week: Ace and resident cat are chasing each other around and playing now when the owner is home. Ace is kept in the bedroom when nobody is home. The owner is hoping that the two will be used to each other completely over the weekend.

1 month: Ace and Cleo the resident cat are getting along nicely now. They're both happy and settled in together.

Suzie previously Topaz

1 day: The owners (Alanna & Denny) have renamed Topaz to Suzie and she is adorable! She has had both dry and wet food but they have yet to see her drink water or use the litter tray. She is ok in her safe room and has been pretty playful and affectionate but does get a little scared with loud noises. They are still getting Denny's cat (Vader) used to having a little kitten around and introducing them slowly by feeding them on either side of the door as Vader is a little territorial. Suzie is so sweet and we love her.
1 week: Suzie was taken home (Alanna's home without Vader) on Sunday as the owner had to work from home over the week. She adjusted very well - settled in well and was happy, playful and affectionate. "She's beautiful!" Over the weekend, Suzie went with her owner to see her partner and Vader. She has her safe room set up there and they continued introductions between Suzie and Vader. Vader was unsure of Suzie at first but after slow exposure, the two are now bolting around the apartment and loving it and playing together. Their play is always supervised and Suzie stays in her safe room when nobody is home. Vader has hissed at Suzie during mealtime so they eat separately in the saferoom and kitchen. Vader has done a wee in the corner of the lounge room and Suzie did one next to the fridge in the corner of the kitchen. Other than this, the two seem very happy and love to play with each other.
1 month: Suzie is the most gorgeous little girl. She gets up on the owner's lap which is so adorable! They love how affectionate she is and her purring is so cute too! They are currently working through Suzie and Vader eating each other's food by having them separated during mealtimes and clearing the bowls.

I had a cat called Suzy. She moved into the preschool where a neighbour worked and took charge of the doll's beds. The headmistress didn't like that (or Suzy's attitude to small humans) so my neighbour brought her home to live with her four boy cats. Suzy didn't fancy being number 5 so moved in with me. Eventually I moved and took her with me (to the ex neighbour's relief). She was a great hammock tester, She didn't need them to be tied up: just freshly ironed.

Love is the key

A woman came in this afternoon to pick up Phantom. She had been in earlier and done the paperwork. She said that she just fell in love with him. And I believed it from the look on her face. He had had a run around before she arrived. I gave her some of his special food because she has found that you can only buy ZD on-line. I think he has landed on his wobbly feet.

Prada is to move into Phantom's condo. She will be much happier there where she can chat to folk at face level not try to talk to the top of their heads.

The C kittens are still in the play place. 

But the Palace has been reserved for them because Ruby only has one little jewel left. This afternoon a woman rang to ask if we had any kittens. I said we did and lots in foster homes. They arrived shortly afterwards and chose Sapphire because they have a 12 month old girl cat at home and I said they should have a boy to go with her. The other jewels were adopted on March 4, 8 and 9. The adopter's partner said that the cat at home gets 4 sachets of food every day plus crunchies. I agreed with her that was way too much.  He showed a photo of a very long, slender cat. (Maybe she has worms). But I advised them not to cut her rations when Sapphire came home because she will blame the kitten and make his life hell once they get together.

Jolene has a larger collar on again. Her tummy wound is looking a bit inflamed.  It didn't stop her having a lovely run around this afternoon.

Ace calmly cleaned Mia's condo this afternoon. She didn't swat or scream. I think she loves him. And he couldn't smell anything bad in Mia's condo. So perhaps it is Biscuit above after all.

Grass for treats

The rain has made the grass in pots grow. So I took a box of pots to Safe Haven this afternoon to give as treats for the cats. They were not as keen on grass as they are on chicken. And one box of pots doesn't have enough grass for everybody. So I had to play favourites. Of course, Billy got his pot first. He has decided that I am "alright" and accepts pats willingly. Marmalade, on the other hand, is still unhappy that I am not Tim. Same with Soxy and Buddy/Petey. What is this boy/boy thing. The kittens are unaffected it is just the adults. It might just be that they are shyer and like the hand that feeds them most often. When I came to take a few photos, I got the "flat battery" message, again. So I will add some old photos. Candy and Collette were not feeling well this afternoon. They didn't leap out of their condo when the door was opened with a food offering. They just lay at the back of the very hot box. They were desexed earlier in the week and still have their collars on.

Sapphire is wearing a collar too. She, and Tiny Tim will be adopted on Sunday. Big Tim is counting the nights he still has to take them home with him.

Octavia is still with us but has moved to the outer edge of Quarantine. Gracie has moved out to the condo below Dobby (whose nose is getting stuffier every day in the stuffy condo). Daphne and the 3 little d's are in a wheely cage where Octavia was. I have talked my cat Cody into being brushed every day. He rather enjoys it. But he doesn't purr as loudly as Tara did when I brushed her today.

I roll the fur I brush off him into balls. I would much rather these fur balls that the ones that he vomits up.

Rita report plus

Irene heard from the folk who adopted Rita. They say that she is the BEST cat that they have ever introduced into the family. She leans into any hand that is stretched out to love her. May they be happy together foreever. Elona has come back. I think we/the cat got in the middle of a perennial mother/daughter tussle. Elona was very happy to get some chicken this afternoon and happy to be patted. (She might not have been given breakfast before she was returned which may explain her eagerness for food. But I prefer to think that she is happy to be back with us.) And Lane, one of Luna's kittens was returned.

For him, the timing was perfect. One of our Friday volunteers adopted another of Luna's kittens. She has loved being woken up at 6am with an invitation to play footsies under the doona. (She is under the doona and the kitten is on top of it). Today she realised that what her kitten needed was a brother to play with. So Lane's feet hardly touched the condo floor before he was whisked away to PLAY. Someone has booked the Palace for Easter. So I had to move Dobby back into the condo that he shared with his mum and clean (the snot off) the Palace.

His nasal congestion has improved since he has been there. It will be interesting to see if it returns when he doesn't have so much airflow. I replaced the large scratchy pole there with another from on top of the condos. It is called a "Bono Fido". Doesn't that mean "Good Dog". What a strange name for a cat scratchy pole company.

Sapphire is booked in to be desexed on Monday. I imagine the person who is keen to adopt her and Tiny Tim will be in on Tuesday to take them home.

Joy and Vi dropped by to check on Billy and she took this photo of TT and S which was much better than mine. They were more focused on chicken when I tried to photograph them. I had lovely, fresh BBQ chicken to share. Everybody went wild. Petey mistook my finger for chicken and bit me. This is Tim's finger who demonstrate how much Petey loves him, and the probably not ring worm lesion on his face.

We had a delivery of "free" food today so Irene took off the slightly out of date kitten kibble for the woman who feeds a cat colony. It will be better for them than cold noodles.
