Adopotion Tails: Stella, Luna, Rayne and Muffin

Stellaaka Shiso

2 days: She is doing really well. She is already friends with their resident cat (Basil) and dog (Spinach) and even prefers using Basil’s litter box instead of her own. She is still being kept in her own room to sleep in for the time being. She has a great appetite, drinks lots of water, and has pooped a couple of times. She has been renamed Shiso. She is still sneezing but is otherwise very playful and energetic.

1.5 weeks: Her flu symptoms have improved. There is almost no sneezing now and Basil didn’t get any flu symptoms. Shiso still has some eye discharge and eye crusties but her owners are hopeful they’ll clear up soon.

1 month: “She’s good!” She absolutely loves her food and is eating lots. “We have to put her food bowl down first in the morning as otherwise she will steal our dog’s food”

Luna

1 day: She is settling in very well. She’s eating, drinking, and using the litter tray. Her safe room is a master-sized bedroom and she’s fine in there but has been out exploring the apartment at supervised times. She’s also slept through the night. Her owners will not be renaming her as Luna suits her.

2 weeks: She’s doing really well. She is happy and doing all the right things. She’s adjusting well.

1 month: “She’s going well. She’s a sweetie just still very gradually getting Miss Minx to get used to her.”

1 day: “He is absolutely delightful and has settled in without any hiccups”

10 days: “He is absolutely delightful and settled completely.” His owner says he is a very clever boy.

1 month: “He is an absolute delight”

Muffin

1 week: Muffin is doing great and everything is on schedule. He’s eating, sleeping, and using his litter tray. They’re slowly introducing him to their resident cat.

1.5 weeks: Muffin and their resident cat are “doing fine with each other”. Their resident cat is still slightly uncomfortable. She’s a bit territorial so sometimes, if Muffin gets too close, he gets a warning slap. She has been less anxious lately, “less slapping more sniffing”

1 month: Everything is fine. Their resident cat and Muffin are now playing chase together.

Adoption Tails: Stella, Marlene Dietrikitty: both black and white but. . . .

  Stella

3 days: Stella has not been eating or toileting at all. She is hiding under the bed and they have the food and litter tray close by. They will try high-value food to tempt her to eat.

5 days: Stella is still not eating but has gone poo. She flicks the litter around and will introduce a hooded litter box as a second option. They will also be trying canned tuna.

1 week: She hasn't taken to the tuna or the chicken but has eaten a total of 16 cat biscuits (10 on Wednesday and 6 yesterday). She is peeing at least once a day and is drinking water. This has been a small improvement and her owners are hopeful that she is getting somewhere and will start eating more food soon. 

1 month: “She’s going pretty well considering how she is temperament-wise”.  She is eating but only at night. They can pat her and she is quite affectionate but very rarely leaves her “safe space”.

1 day: She is good. She has been eating, drinking and using her litter box to pee and poo.

1 week: She has explored outside of her safe room. She always sits in front of the window and balcony door. She has been renamed Normi.

1 month: She is great and is becoming naughty.

Adoption Tails: Yuna, Yuki and Stella

1 day: Yuna and Yuki were picked up last night and they are both settling in really well in the bathroom set up for them. Both have been eating, drinking and being the ultimate purring machines!

1 week: Both are still purring machines! The owner has let them out a couple of times but not for too long. The kittens will go back to the vet today to get their vaccination and stitches out.

1 month

 1 month: Yuki has been renamed Athena, and Yuna has been renamed Aphrodite. Athena is sitting on the owner's desk helping them work today. Aphrodite was sleeping on their owner's lap earlier. They are both doing well and have integrated into the family pack. "Still purr machines!"

1 month and 1 week: They are acting as a back warmer while the owner is working.

Last Thursday the people who adopted Star came to find her a friend. Star has settled in beautifully and they have room for another. They chose Stella. 

Let's all cross our fingers that it works out well for them all.

Timless Friday

 He had a day off today. Friday is a good day to choose. The training of a new batch of volunteers always adds an element of chaos to the morning. But all the washing up was done by 12:30 this morning. (And overflowed to the floor again).

It was a busy afternoon with visitors.
The first batch arrived to look at kittens because Santa had left all kinds of kitten gear while they were away on Christmas Day. Slight complication is that the daughter has displayed allergy to cats. But she says that it was just certain cats that make her sneeze which is why they had to come to test our kittens. I sat her down with a Cleo kitten and her younger brother with the other (which they kept swapping) for 10 minutes. She should have been sneezing if she was allergic. But she didn't with either of them. And Mum fell in love with the calico. Then I sprayed her hands with F10 and she sneezed. She didn't sneeze at Earl but did sneeze at Midnight and the F10 lotion. So they went away to talk to dad.

Then a mother and her son came to donate us cat stuff. I didn't ask the details but think that their cat had recently died because of what she gave us. They has a short look about.

Then a prize winner came to pick up her raffle loot. She volunteered with us when she was let go when Covid struck. She gave us up when she got another real job and then got her old job back. She was very pleased to meet the new cats and did recognise Stella who has been with us for way too long. I mentioned that we are always looking for foster homes for our long term residents.

All these visitors were a fine audience for Ginger George who strolled around and introduced himself to everybody (in the hopes of more treats). Later Phantom had a lovely roll in some cat nip. He is moving better and his movements are more solid now that he is on ZD.

Even Tabby is surer footed. Perhaps the antibiotics that she is on for her tummy wound is good for her balance?

Lucky was the Top Cat and hypnotized me into feeding her a tube of treats. We left her there overnight and opened Nada's door in the hope that they will not tear each other to pieces overnight. They may as well be friends as they are both on weight reduction crunchies and their condos have a connecting hatch. (Remember when Diego used to force open the flap and end up with Nada overnight?)

Daisy came back to board after her people took her home for the night on Wednesday.

Our Daphne (their Tilly) is back in boarding and has settled down quickly.

Joy worked the morning shift in Incoming and was happy to get more photos of Jasmine's smallest kitten who is doing much better now. He eats everything and his tail is a curly as a piglet's.

There are ringwormy kittens in Incoming so vollies who work there cannot linger elsewhere after their shift. I don't know if these are they as Joy took the photo.

But where has she gone to? Foster? She is not on the adopted list. Her condo is clean. 

We have new cats including Lucy and Sid. Robyn tells me that those names have a literary connection. They are both very shy gingers.

Felix has gone to foster with Irene. His condo is occupied by Wanda who "rejected" her kittens who have gone to live with Jayde and Jasmyn's family. Wanda looks as though she has been throttled by a too tight collar.

Ziggy and Stella have been moved out of incoming into the main room. Ziggy is getting used to it but Stella is in shock.

There are two delightful kittens, Lunar and Sunny in Trixie's old condo. When I arrived they had managed to throw water all over their condo. Even their bed box was wet. They were wet. It was a good way to get to know them for loving, friendly kittens.

 I had  lunch in the play place with Peach's berry kittens. Don't know which is which. They are not microchipped. One is listed as black and white and the other is white and black. I noticed that one has white under its chin and the other has black under its chin. They both are very black under their tails so I couldn't tell their gender. The very end tip of the tail of the one with black under the chin dangles. This is the friendlier kitten.

 Some months ago somebody brought in a tiny ginger kitten who I fed catmilk with a syringe (needle-less needless to say).

It was whisked off to a foster home and is now back with us and called Dexter. I am surprised that he did not cause a foster fail. He is seriously cute.

He was next door to Cherry who was waiting to be collected by the person who adopted her last weekend. But that person reneged. So Sophie and I moved her into the welfare cat room. Before the afternoon was over she had the "I have been adopted" sign on her condo. The people who missed her last weekend are doubly thrilled to get her this weekend. She is not thrilled.

And Jumi is back. The person who adopted him had a housemate (recent, temporary) who developed asthma when the cat came home. We all thought "wrong choice of whom to ask to leave, mate!"

Mayka is back but Tinker is still in foster care. I never learned who was who. I can't tell if we got the shy one back or the bolder on. And she is not telling!

There are new cats in Incoming as well. Including Charlie who featured on our Facebook Page on Nov 8. He has had his left front leg amputated to try to correct the damage done by a car or a bus some months ago. Cats' ability to live with pain is amazing. He has been with the vet for some days.
