Adoption Tails: Felix: a foster fail and Ivan the intrepid

We only have a 1-month update of Felix who was adopted by his foster carers. 1-month: Felix has settled in. He is doing better with guests and the resident cat. Still keeping the two separate at night but there are a few good sniffs and interactions with them now.

Felix

 Ivan, one of Violet's kittens

1 Day: Ivan (now Oliver) has settled right in -- he purrs like crazy on his owner's lap as they try to work! He has eaten last night and this morning, and used kitty litter (my other's cat litter for a wee, his own for a poo!) Our existing cat is very put out, not fighting but hissing and growling. Fingers crossed things will settled down soon.

Day 1: Ivan
1 Week: Oliver is going well, he had his F3 booster this morning. He loves his food and also getting into cupboards! He and Bette are getting closer -- alternating sniffing and giving each other lots of space!

Day 1, Ivan the explorer

1 Month: Oliver has very much settled in! He loves playing in boxes and with Lego (not eating it!) He also likes exploring the courtyard. He's full of energy and loves his food! He and our cat are going okay... Also the owners can't believe it's been a month!

Foster Tail: Felix

Irene and Peter took Felix to the vet on Tuesday and he had ear infections in both ears and needed 9 teeth out. His gums are so bad that the vet had trouble closing the wound of the canine that needed to come out.

Poor baby. But today he seems lively, and has for the very first time shown interest in exploring outside his 4 walls and was super cuddly overall.

He is such a beautiful boy. Irene hopes SAFE can find a home for him as he will make someone a lovely companion.

Gracie has gone

But where has she gone to? Foster? She is not on the adopted list. Her condo is clean.

We have new cats including Lucy and Sid. Robyn tells me that those names have a literary connection. They are both very shy gingers.

Lucy

Felix has gone to foster with Irene. His condo is occupied by Wanda who "rejected" her kittens who have gone to live with Jayde and Jasmyn's family. Wanda looks as though she has been throttled by a too tight collar.

Wanda
Ziggy and Stella have been moved out of incoming into the main room. Ziggy is getting used to it but Stella is in shock.

There are two delightful kittens, Lunar and Sunny in Trixie's old condo. When I arrived they had managed to throw water all over their condo. Even their bed box was wet. They were wet. It was a good way to get to know them for loving, friendly kittens.

Lunar and Sunny

I had  lunch in the play place with Peach's berry kittens. Don't know which is which. They are not microchipped. One is listed as black and white and the other is white and black. I noticed that one has white under its chin and the other has black under its chin. They both are very black under their tails so I couldn't tell their gender. The very end tip of the tail of the one with black under the chin dangles. This is the friendlier kitten.

Petal in pink

Petal has been posted as available. Expect a rush tomorrow as there are no other cats ready to be adopted. Plus, Petal has a loyal following of several families who are desperate to get her. We were rather surprised that nobody phoned this afternoon. But who looks at our website on Friday afternoon?

Petal collar free at last

This morning, before 10am, a woman arrived to surrender her friend's cat. They have to move and can't take Quinn with them. She was very upset (the cat) but eventually settled down to consider her options. I imagine that the three kids of her family will take longer to adjust to her loss. She is a gorgeous, medium haired, 2 year old, dark tortie.
Quinn
Of course, we already have a Quinn in Incoming. She is one of the four in the Cannon condo: Yin, Yang, Quinn and Sydney. They don't have microchips/ID's, just names, so it was easy to change her name from Quinn to Adelaide.

One of Freddy, Hercules and co vomited worms this afternoon. So, they all got treated and were quite uninterested in dinner.

Two new cats, Felix and Rebel were captured and are shocked at their situation in Incoming.

Felix

Rebel

Champ has been moved to the Boarder's Row . . . . perhaps because he is an entire male and is more appropriately situated beside a window that can be opened. His left ear curls backwards. What battle over a sweet young female cat caused that, I wonder?

Champ
Nada has been moved below Ebony. Our two black cats are together. And a couple came in today to adopt Blacky. (Sorry, you should check the website before you come in. He went home on Wednesday).  Nada and Ebony are our only two all black cats and neither is ready to be adopted.

Wussy Puss

We have a new surrender, Flash who is a Norwegian Forest Cat. He is very friendly. And is grey so won't be with us for long.
But he isn't the wuss. It was Felix. He rolled around to have his tummy tickled (as did Ollie when I brushed another cat's worth of hair from him). But when I pulled the tail of the mechanical mouse, I got this reaction:
Then I tossed one of the tiny orange mouse toy's past him and almost gave him a heart attack. I encouraged Mia to eat her breakfast by patting her igloo, with her inside.
We have newborn kittens. Gracie had five but they seem very small. And Silky had four.
And Rita looks as though she has swallowed a balloon. I gave her a big, flat bed for her downstairs and she just sat in it. Lily's boys are ready to go and should disappear as soon as they are listed. They are purring machines.

A duet

This afternoon Billy and Mimi were singing a duet. Billy was calling for food. And Mimi was chiripping for a mate. Poor Mimi is in heat. Rara has been desexed. Gracie below her is about to give birth and the cat next door calls out loud. Little Mbrow/Mbro just looks confused and worried. We have some lovely, newly surrendered, mature male cats. Ollie loves to be brushed. And he is shedding pounds of fur. He is the colour of Peanut when he arrived. With time, he will clean himself up to a white cat with tabby markings.
Below him is Felix. They are from the same area but we don't know if they are friends. Felix loves to have his tummy tickled. I thought I was very brave to try it. But I saw Tim tickling his tum.
And Charlie is a love. He was surrendered by his family because there was a problem with the children. We will find him a much better home.
Ebony was up and about today. She is so handsome.
Star's kittens are beginning to separate themselves from the kitten blob. The two fluffy black ones came first.
Patchy and her kittens have settled into Quarrantine Qorner.
I was spied on by two kittens as I sat at the desk during the afternoon.
The only visitor I had today was the woman who adopted Tam back in June. She brought a corrugated cardboard couch that he rejected. He has also distained to use the stratchy pole she bought. He is faithful to sharpening his claws on carpet. . . . . any, and all, carpet. Nevertheless, she loves him and he loves her. He is smoochy, devoted, faithful, . . . . perfect.

When it rains . . . . it floods

I was late at Safe Haven this afternoon because Babbage Road flooded. I had no idea where Babbage Road was so those signs that flash above you as you drive meant nothing to me.

I learned that Babbage Road is the bit that connects Eastern Valley Road with Boundary Road. The traffic stopped on my way down to the Roseville Bridge and crawled up the hill. I detoured around the back of High Street to get to SH. To be met by Tim who had had the same problem when he delivered Dale and Danielle to PetO in Brookvale this morning to be desexed. His very clever app rerouted him through St Ives to save half an hour on his way back to East Roseville.

Poor guy has the flu and croaked this story to me plus the info that the kittens needed to be picked up this afternoon at 3:30pm. So I convinced him that he should stay warm and dry and I should drive in the rain. It took an hour to get to Brookvale. And an hour to get back to SH. Should have taken half an hour each way according to my TomTom which is nowhere near as savy as Tim's app.
Dale and Danielle

Nevertheless, Dale and Danielle survived the trip. They were super hungry when they got home.

Before I went I sterilized three Clean Me condos. I missed the fourth because I thought it was an alternative condo for the mixed litter. But was told that it was Felix's condo and he has been adopted.
. . . . not having cleaned the kittens for a fortnight, I have lost track of them. The smallest of the mixed litter died last weekend. . . little blackie:

Was Felix the biggest? But what is their relationship with Dale and Danielle who are with another D kitten above?

When I eventually got back, Tim was trying to get Buffy to take her pill laced food. Her skin condition has improved so much since she started on these pills that it is a pity that she has decided to spit out pill flavoured food.
