Finally!

 Cass was adopted this morning along with Talia. The folk came at 10am to do the adoption. Certainly not the best time to do an adoption especially when you haven't done one for a while. But they were out of there by the time I arrived at noon. Poor Michelle is all alone in her big enclosure. 

A man whose cat has recently died came with a trolley load of food, carrier, meds, dishes, etc. He was "happy to have found us" and on the way out met all the cats including Mia who positively fawned over him. If she could have, she would have licked his hand! He was taken with her too. So perhaps he will be back.

Then a woman arrived to look at our cats because her boy cat had recently died and her girl cat is feeling lonely. She fell in love with Martin who is the same colour as her previous boy cat. Seemed to be preordained. She entertained herself during the adoption by texting all her friends, getting their opinions, getting offers of a Uber back home to Bondi Junction and offers of kitty sitting forever.

A woman rang with a sad story of her friend having found 5 kittens in a rubbish bin. The friend was bottle feeding them but Tim and Helen think they are older than needing that. So they agreed to take them in. And then their photos showed gooey eyes. So they probably have the flu, at least. Tim was waiting for them to arrive when I left.

He was also doing the adoption of a foster cat with the couple who came last week to collect some special food. Plus he was having trouble with the computer . . . . as I usually do. So I had to sign on so that he could complete the adoption. In the meantime the couple played with Callie who is now available. They had chosen a toy from the merch shelves while waiting for Tim to sort his computer problems and played with it. They noticed Callie's fascination with the toy and I gave them permission to let her play with it. She was having a fine time when I left. (I didn't sign out just in case I crashed the computer).

Rory or Little

Sue says that there is more white on Little's feet than on Rory's. But when you look at their faces, One has a white left cheek and the other has a white right cheek. Little above, Rory below.

Freya's kittens have ventured out of their bed chamber. They are charming lumps of plump. Not quite so plump as Josie's though. And Betty and her kittens are looking less squinty than in this photo taken on Wednesday.

Adoption Tails: Adele and her litter

 

Adele aka Brandy

Adele

 

1 day: She has been renamed Brandy and she is doing very well. “After coming home she sat on my lap after half an hour”. She is eating well and has used the litter box so it's a successful rehoming. She is not shy at all.

1 week: Brandy has explored the whole house now, as well as the safe veranda outside. She is always supervised on the veranda and follows her owner all day. She is eating well and uses the litterbox. She sneezes sometimes. She is very independent but comes when her owner calls her.

1 month: Brandy is getting a bit friendlier. She really doesn’t like to be touched or picked up but her owner can live with that. Her owner is sure it will take her a bit more time. She is asking for food all day but she currently gets food at 6 am, noon and 6 pm, before taking herself to bed.

1 day: Billie is loving the place! She’s very curious and is such a people person! She particularly loves the wet food and the owners have made her comfortable around the litter tray and water.

1 week: She's doing amazing! Much more comfortable around the entire house and is sleeping, feeding and going to the bathroom well! She's gotten more comfortable around the resident cat too.

1 month: Billie is doing great and the resident cat is much more comfortable around her now.

Britney aka Lia

 1 day: She is adapting, ate a little yesterday and today but she still hasn't drunk much water or used the litter. She just stays under the bed but little by little, she is letting the owners pet her. They still haven't decided on her name, they're seeing which one she likes the most (between Kya and Lisa).

1 week: She is already well adapted, super affectionate and playful. The only thing is that sometimes she meows very softly and other times, the meow comes out hoarse. The owner has tried to film it but every time she picks up the phone, the meowing stops. The owners have decided to name her Lia.

1 month: Lia has improved a lot, she is more affectionate and playful every day. She is very spoiled too. "Adopting her was the best thing we did, she is making us very happy."

Peanut = Wasabi

Peanut

1 day: Peanut is doing great. He was shy yesterday but is out and about exploring his room today. He has eaten and used his litter. He’s still looking for his mum but comes purring to his owner every few minutes. He is very affectionate. He has been renamed Wasabi. 

1 week: He is doing great. He has the run of the house now. He has become his owner’s little shadow and follows them everywhere. If his owners sit, Wasabi is on them within seconds. He loves to play and isn’t scared of anything, even the vacuum.

1 month: He is doing great and is a very friendly cat. He loves to play fetch with his ball every day. They took him to the vet last week for a check-up and his vaccines were updated.

Butter aka Boots

4 days: Butter is the cutest thing they’ve ever seen. He has been playing under the door with their 8-year-old resident cat. They’re thinking of renaming him Arlo or Thor but haven’t decided. There have been 2 hisses with the resident cat but she sat on Butter’s bed so they think they’re getting used to each other. They’ve also kissed noses. He’s eating well and has a good routine - everything is super positive. 

2.5 weeks: “He is the absolute sweetest thing ever. The intros have gone well. They seem to like each other more each day and have started playing.” To be safe, they don’t leave them together unsupervised, but they’re super confident that they would be okay.

1 month: They’ve settled on the name Boots. He is very loving and cuddly. “Follows me around the house. Won't leave me alone. I love it”. Their resident cat Nikitta likes him but doesn’t love him yet. He eats well and loves to play with his toys.

Cherry aka Isis

1 day: The owners have renamed her Isis after the Egyptian queen! Her new brother is Osiris, after the Egyptian king so they fit very perfectly. Isis has toileted and is eating perfectly fine. She is very affectionate and playful as well. "Thank you so much for all of SAFE's hard work in helping us adopt her!"

1 week: Isis is doing so well. She is very desperate to go out and tries to run out of her safe room so she's had a few unplanned interactions with Osiris but all is good. The owners will get some extra treats and play with each of them in the same room to further the introduction process. Their supervised playtime was successful, with only a brief second where Osiris hissed. Isis and Osiris managed to be in the same room, she was totally fine and happy to do her thing while Osiris kept following her out of curiosity.

2 weeks: Isis had some sort of infection/dermatitis rash on her ears for about 2 days. She is not overly scratching.

1 month: Isis' ears started healing on her own and now it is completely cleared. Osiris and her are besties. They get along very well now. The owners are so happy they stuck to the process because they have both adjusted excellently. "Thank you for all the work that you guys do and constantly being so helpful! We are so grateful!"

Jam aka Taeyeon

4 days: She has been renamed Taeyeon. “She has been incredibly well behaved and very adventurous. She wanted out of her safe room after 60 minutes, and now enjoys patrolling our apartment looking for hair ties and toys! She's brought a lot of fresh energy into our home and we love her!”

2 weeks: She’s very comfortable and now wanders where she likes. “She gets plenty of exercise and plays constantly. She's great.”

When she was brought in Boarding Row was being scrubbed, bleached and F10'd because Katie's cats all went home last night. It required two vollies. . . one short and one tall. And took ages. 

Only Ashley left in Boarding.

So I popped Coco into D4 which is on Better Row beside the fridge. It should be nice and quiet there. 

Should be but:

Dancer escaped during the cleaning and ended up under the far end of the food shelves. A bowl of milk placed outside the shelves on the floor didn't entice her out. So I put some smelly food in a bowl up the feeding table end and she migrated there. I blocked off her escape back to the far corner with towels and gradually narrowed the gap. I put a cat carrier in her escape path out from under the shelves and put the food in there. Eventually she came out. Not into the carrier unfortunately. But to a place where I could grab her and take her back to her home.

Pretty entertaining for Coco to see me crawling around on the floor.

Stevie, one of Sabrina's kittens from the play place has an infected tummy wound and has been moved to the condo next to Tommy. She spends her time screaming for attention when any person appears. I thought it was just Sabrina's black and white boy who screamed. But now there is a chorus!

Shortly thereafter, Sue said "Why did you let Callie out?" .. . . . . I was on my tummy in Better Row! Somebody else didn't shut her door. Callie, of course, was under the merch shelves. In the very area that Sandy and I blocked off with cardboard after fighting to get out a pair of very frightened cats during their adoption last year some time. The cardboard has gone. Callie is much friendlier than those kittens were but she is still too canny to let herself be caught after only one mouthful of lovely wet food. Eventually I dismantled the corner shelf and grabbed her. She forgave me. The wet food helped.

Tinkerbelle appeared on the For Adoption list on the Safe website briefly over the weekend. We thought that she had been adopted. A family came very ready to adopt her but she wasn't microchipped and didn't have any paperwork so they will have to come back. Tinkerbelle isn't in a hurry.

And a lovely family came to check out our cats. They have just moved back to Oz from Shanghai/Taipei and have moved into a pet friendly apartment block. It will be a couple of weeks before they are ready for a pet. But the boy loved Martin and the girl loved Gemma. (I didn't show them Tinkerbell). They will be back.

Adoption Tails: Molly, Jar, Dom

1 day: She's settling in well, practically owns the house now!

1 week: She is doing really well! Super happy at home.

No 1 month response.

Jar (brown tabby) & Dom

 1 week: Jar is settling in nicely. He does drink, eat his favourite biscuits and uses the litter boxes. Mostly at night. Still shy with the owners (as they have expected) but the progress has been good. The owner is also in touch with the foster carer who is also helping with the info. She also has Jar’s buddy Dom who is helping Jar. They play together all night!

1 month: Dom & Jar are doing really well, inseparable in fact. Mischievous as they play all night and sleep during the day. Jar is still a bit shy but accepts mini cuddles. Dom is learning from Jar everyday, asking for cuddles yesterday as well.

Adoption Tails: Lyra, Leon, Donatella and McQueen

Lyra (now Kaori)

1 day: The owners have renamed Lyra to Kaori. She seems to be settling in well, ventured out of the sunroom last night and explored the apartment. She has been eating, drinking and using her litter. A bit shy still, loves looking out the window.

1 week: She seems well settled now - a member of the household, loves to sit or lie down next to the owners. It's only been a week so the owner feels like she'll get even more friendlier and familiar with them over time.

 1 month: Kaori has been great. The owner thinks she's completely settled in now, loves to sit with them on the couch and lie beside/underneath when the owner is at his desk. Kaori's always kneading one blanket a few times a day. Loves to be petted but only when she wants/allows it. 

She has also claimed the owner's bedside cup of water as hers... Kaori seems like she's put on a bit of weight so the owner is thinking of reducing her dry food a little bit.

 

Leon

Leon

 1 day: Leon was very unsettled on his first night, very vocal and wanted company all night but went to sleep in the morning. He hid at first then came out and ate, used the litter perfectly and checked out the whole house. He does not want to stay in his quiet room but seems to want company. The owner thinks he is really missing his old family and home. He is much better today. The owner will keep his name.

1 week: Leon seems very happy. He settled in after 2 days, found his favourite places and foods and likes to be around the owners. He is very affectionate and lovely. He is also surprisingly fit and loves a good play! The owners are very happy to have him.

 

1 month: Leon is going great. He has been a real surprise! The first two weeks, he was affectionate, quiet, liked company and slept on the owner's bed. There was a change to his food and Leon became hyperactive, craving food, running wildly. His energy was scary, knocking things down at 2am, up again demanding food at 5am. The owner took him to the vet and the blood test results indicated that he is totally healthy and his thyroids levels are fine. The owner changed Leon's food again (no seafood) and he returned to his lovely well-mannered self. He still plays a lot and does zoomies like a kitten so the owner has added more toys and play with him a lot. He is a sweet cuddlebug and a lovely addition to the family. "Thank you to SAFE for Leon!"

Donatella & McQueen

1 week: They're both doing very well, McQueen is on his way to becoming nice and cuddly already, Donatella is taking a bit longer to settle in but the owner is confident she will in time.

1 month: They're doing really well! Both have really come out of their shells and loves pats. McQueen even sleep right by the owners' heads in bed at night with the loudest purrs they've ever heard. They have so much personality and the owners love them so much already!

 

Betty not so well

 At 3:15 she was OK. But by 4 pm there were 2 big vomits and 2 skinny poos. Plus the kittens bedding was wet. So I changed it all. There was a little chicken left for her tummy.

One of Pickles kittens was adopted today: Caper, the champagne medium haired one. Sue did the adoption. . . .. and had the same problem with the program that I often have. I call on Tim to "fix" it which he invariably does by pressing "reset". Sue did the same, twice, and it worked. Cranky computers!

So now Pickles only has 4 kittens. I changed the signs on her condo in Isolation just in case somebody, over the weekend got into a panic about a missing kitten. These are the four left. Their names are Brine, Cucumber and some other picklish names.

I don't know who is who. And am not prepared to open the door to take a photo because they are all crazy to get out.

Tinkerbell is on the website. Has been all day without being adopted. What is wrong with them out there!

I was a bit late and all the work had been done. I had to go home at lunch time to see to my cat who has a urinary blockage problem which is not uncommon in boy cats. He had surgery yesterday and I wanted him at home to recover so I borrowed a cat cage from Bronwen. She reports that Max is fine. I didn't get to see him although he was just outside. His favourite sleeping place in hot weather is in their basin in the en suite. Thelma and Louise were hiding so the only critters I saw were the two madly barking alsatian dogs. I might get to see Max when I return the cat cage.
