Adoption Tails: Lyra, Leon, Donatella and McQueen

Lyra (now Kaori)

1 day: The owners have renamed Lyra to Kaori. She seems to be settling in well, ventured out of the sunroom last night and explored the apartment. She has been eating, drinking and using her litter. A bit shy still, loves looking out the window.

1 week: She seems well settled now - a member of the household, loves to sit or lie down next to the owners. It's only been a week so the owner feels like she'll get even more friendlier and familiar with them over time.

 1 month: Kaori has been great. The owner thinks she's completely settled in now, loves to sit with them on the couch and lie beside/underneath when the owner is at his desk. Kaori's always kneading one blanket a few times a day. Loves to be petted but only when she wants/allows it. 

She has also claimed the owner's bedside cup of water as hers... Kaori seems like she's put on a bit of weight so the owner is thinking of reducing her dry food a little bit.

 1 day: Leon was very unsettled on his first night, very vocal and wanted company all night but went to sleep in the morning. He hid at first then came out and ate, used the litter perfectly and checked out the whole house. He does not want to stay in his quiet room but seems to want company. The owner thinks he is really missing his old family and home. He is much better today. The owner will keep his name.

1 week: Leon seems very happy. He settled in after 2 days, found his favourite places and foods and likes to be around the owners. He is very affectionate and lovely. He is also surprisingly fit and loves a good play! The owners are very happy to have him.

 

1 month: Leon is going great. He has been a real surprise! The first two weeks, he was affectionate, quiet, liked company and slept on the owner's bed. There was a change to his food and Leon became hyperactive, craving food, running wildly. His energy was scary, knocking things down at 2am, up again demanding food at 5am. The owner took him to the vet and the blood test results indicated that he is totally healthy and his thyroids levels are fine. The owner changed Leon's food again (no seafood) and he returned to his lovely well-mannered self. He still plays a lot and does zoomies like a kitten so the owner has added more toys and play with him a lot. He is a sweet cuddlebug and a lovely addition to the family. 1 week: They're both doing very well, McQueen is on his way to becoming nice and cuddly already, Donatella is taking a bit longer to settle in but the owner is confident she will in time.

1 month: They're doing really well! Both have really come out of their shells and loves pats. McQueen even sleep right by the owners' heads in bed at night with the loudest purrs they've ever heard. They have so much personality and the owners love them so much already!

 

Short time

 I was supposed to drive my husband to his eye doc this morning so only went to Safe to give everybody their breakfast. His doc called in sick and he didn't go after all but will go next week (perhaps).

Several adoptions over the weekend. Opie went home with Ark and his stand alone is occupied by Holly who used to be in Incoming above Tiger who she came in with. She settled down in Incoming very well and sought pats after a couple of weeks. But she doesn't like change and is hiding in a box on the floor of the stand alone behind a sheet.

Donatella and McQueen were adopted! He looks like he had some inkling in this photo that I took on Friday. Donatella will hide for a month! Billy is in their stand alone by the front door.

Maggie's kittens were STARVING, of course. Five minutes after bolting their breakfast they started to bounce off the walls of the play place. The R kittens in the Palace were mesmerized. I was still handing out breakfasts at the time and by the time I found my camera they had all settled down.

 Robyn reported later today the Billy was adopted this afternoon as well!

And in Incoming, Roger is looking much better but is still a messy kitten. (Thanks for the photos Joy)

 We have lots of pairs of cats.

Jack and Luna, the kittens with the long, will be fluffy tails will be picked up on Monday. They will go home with a vollie and never made it to the Adoption list.

Below them are Charlie and Champ who are settling back into the condo after being in foster home.

They entertained Jagger this afternoon. He hid under their bed. Then he moved on to Rosie and Callie's condo and into their carry cage. Which made it easy for me to get him back into his condo for his share of chicken. . . . . he forgives anything for chicken.

And beyond them is Mabel and Tori. Very hard to get Tori to stay still for a photo.

They are below Virgo who has had her second curtain removed. She was very keen for chicken.

Not to mention Donatella and McQueen. Arlo was sitting on top of Annie today. Usually he pushes her to the front of the hammock. She is the shy one. He loves cuddles. Go figure.

 The laundry shelves. I added to the stacks in a colour coordinated manner and went to get my camera to take a photo. On the way I noticed all the torties having their time out:

And I forgot to take a photo of the laundry shelves. And then got too busy to take any other photos.

Cookie was adopted late this afternoon. Her test came back negative so her person is happy. Her sisters are in the Lucky condo and are quite shy. Virgo has moved to were Maeve was. And Chia has moved to under Belle. (Shadow looks moth eaten around his rear). And two pairs of cats from Better Row have moved into their double condos below Libby.

Maggie and her crew may have ringworm but they are full of beans. They manage to squeeze out of the Royal Cannin standalone in the narrowest of door opening spaces. They can get through a gap that I can't get my hand through. Adele's lot are angels by comparison.

 Well, no kittens available for adoption. Virgo and Chia are on their own. Neither looks pleased about it.

Donatella was much friendlier today. She jumped out to play and let me pat her (once).

And Lyra has decided that people are not so bad and allows some head scrunches.

But the most noticeable thing that happened today is:

CLEAN WINDOWS

The C kittens (not yet desexed despite their size) in the play place were fascinated to watch the mop go up and down the windows. Sue even made a new, laminated sign to remind folk to ask the day manager if you want to change the bedding.

PLUS: Catsie rearranged the clean towels, etc, shelves. They are now good enough to grace a very superior bathroom supply store. The colour coordination is ace. Thank you, Catsie and thank you everybody else for keeping them pristine for at least a week. . . . . please.

Still no new bins

 And, the garbos came early! Must be a new crew because as well as being early, they were extra neat. But it means that the bins are already full of yesterday's bags and we will have to all take home a bag or the balcony will be overfilled by next week.

There were adoptions so we had condos to sterilize and cats to move.

Another Stones kitten, Mick, was adopted so only Jagger and Ronnie were left on the play place. They moved into where Rajah and Genie were as they were adopted separately over the weekend. Virgo and her 6 kittens moved into the play place. The kittens had a marvelous time running, jumping, climbing. They will sleep soundly tonight. Virgo found a nice corner to lie in and was quiet for the first time ever.

Marmalade and Duchess were also adopted yesterday. Their condo is now occupied by Narnia and Angel from Quarantine. Cammie had some trouble to get them to go into a carrier and ended up just picking them up and carrying them there. We did the same thing for Jagger and Ronnie. Big kittens are more tractable than adult cats!

Cammy thought it would be a good idea to let out McQueen and Donatella. Previously McQueen played around outside and Donatella stayed in the stand alone. This afternoon she came out to play and had such a good time that she didn't want to go back into the stand alone. Ginger George played ball with them.

On the other side of the Top Cat barrier, Simon and Maxwell played separately (as long as there was somebody to twitch the toy.) Later Aslan came out, climbed over the Top Cat and settled back to groom himself. When I lifted him back into his condo, he felt damp.

There is a new kitten in Incoming called Roger. He is a mess.

Good News

 The good news is that somebody rang from the Blue Mountains to ask for Chichi. They had taken one cat from the home of several (?5) cats that she came from but couldn't take more at that time. Now they can take another. They promised to come tomorrow. So this is the happy photo:

The bad news is that two of Roxy's kittens succumbed to parvo overnight. We have lost 7 kittens so far. But we have RAT-like tests and various cats have been moved out of Isolation. (Luckily, for the testers, the test sample is poo rather than a throat swab. Imagine trying to get a nasal swab from any sized cat!)

Donatella and McQueen who are in the 3 wheeled stand alone just inside the door: Later in the afternoon they were having a wonderful game of "king of the castle" but. . .  by the time I figured out how to video them on the Safe mobile phone, they had stopped playing.

The small stand alone is reserved for the C kittens, whoever they are. Their neighbours are  Calvin and Vivienne.

Milo was delivered on Thursday. He was the second cat that Safe rehomed. That was before we had our current premises. So he is thoroughly discombobulated at being put into a stand alone (which used to be Winnie and Demi's). If he wasn't such a mature cat, I would say that he is sulking.

Biscuit tested negative and moved out of Incoming into the Better Row. (Don't take the stuck-out tongue as a comment on Better Row. That is just the way his tongue lies.)

And Alfredo tested negative so has been moved to the Boarding row on the highest condo. He is a chatty cat. When found he had a flap of flesh hanging from his neck. A good Samaritan found him, took him to a vet who stitched him up. He still has shaven bits and lengths of thread hanging from his neck but he is very chatty and REALLY wants to make friends.

Lockdown

 I made a mistake on my last blog. Chanel didn't die. She is with the vet being treated for something, serious. But kittens in Incoming did die of parvovirus: the two smaller ones in the stand alone beside the Royal Canine stand alone and one of the ones with Venus in the stand alone across the room. It seems that parvovirus is running rampant in the western suburbs and goodness knows where these kittens came from. They may have brought separate bugs with them. The Royal Cannon stand alone was moved out of Incoming yesterday. But Roxy's kittens were not looking very energetic and not eating (!) this afternoon. So they were rolled back into Incoming. The cats, McGreggor and Donatella who were moved out of Incoming on Wednesday were moved back there. And it is a no-go zone for all but a few staff/vollies so that we can try to contain the source of infection. https://pets.webmd.com/cats/what-to-know-about-feline-parvovirus has lots of good information.

Tim has vaccinated all the cats that he can in the hope that we can stop cats getting very sick. Kittens are more vulnerable than adults. So there is to  be no more random cuddling of kittens and no cats are allowed out to run around to play. Phantom was not happy at being shut in this afternoon.

Some cats couldn't give a . . . . . like Chessie: who would rather be alone. Perhaps we should have called her Greta.

Demi and Winnie were not so upset by the lack of attention but the fact that they didn't cuddle together in one hammock. The tie of the upper hammock came undone and they were forced to find other places to sit.

Here in the process of getting back together after I tied the bow again.

And we have a new cat, Simba. Don't know where he came from and I couldn't give him a welcome cuddle because we are in lock down.
