Milo's big night

Somehow Milo got out of his condo overnight and had a marvelous time. He managed to climb to the top of the condos and knock down lots of cat carriers. Then he rumaged through the food shelves. It was the start of a mayhem morning. Six vollies were rostered on and only 2 arrived as well as some trainees but no Rosanna. (They were sent home. She arrived later). When I arrived early (-ish) I was greeted with joy.

Imagine my horror later in the afternoon when, after showing Tiger's visitors* the other cats available, when I came to handing out the chicken, his condo door was wide open. I did a quick scoot around and couldn't see him anywhere. But I did see two of the kittens who were supposed to be in the Cannin stand-alone, under the adjacent grey trio's stand alone. I promptly shut the door of "Incoming". Then Katie told me that Milo had gone, with Tim, to the vet. . .  relief. I told her about the Incoming runaways. . . . consternation. But Geoff comes in on Friday afternoons and he is expert at corralling critters.

TIger
*Tiger's visitors were a young woman and her father. She has a rag doll (female) who is dying of cancer. So she has all the digestive food at home already. And understands about sloppy, smelly poos and up-chucks. Perfect person. She was very impressed with his looks. And moved in for lots of strokes. He wasn't so impressed with all that attention at face level from complete strangers. And he bit her. Not hard but warningly. He also bit her dad. And he has bitten another potential adopter.

So, my suggestion is not to try to introduce a stranger at face level in his condo when he can't get away. But to let him out when a likely customer comes and let them meet over a cup of tea at the desk. This afternoon's visitor will think about it. I gave her the information sheet about how to introduce a newcomer to your resident cat.  Fingers crossed.

Biscuit, next door to Tiger, also went to the vet this morning. She needs some teeth removed.. . . hence the slack tongue.

And below Tiger is Fred who has come in from his foster home because all his siblings were adopted and the fosterer has to go away. Poor little Fred is confused.

Fred
We had a delivery of litter bags. . . not before time. There were none left. Along with the 15 Kg bags came a tiny kitten who can't weight 150gm. It seems that her mum moved the rest of the family and left her behind. Her name is Kitten and she is friendly.

I was late

I was late this morning because the washing machine man came. He has ordered the part that will keep the Safe washing happen.

I was certainly late to all the movement that happened over the weekend.

Rooms were rearranged:

Incoming which used to be the junk/store room:

Incoming
Opie's room which has a table for vollies to socialize or committee members to meet at:
Opie's room
Opie's room also stores Purina food and other things.

And Quarantine where the sick cats keep Tim and Katie company.

Quarantine
Cats have also been moved since the parvovirus seems to have moved away from us.

The mums and newborns who were around Tiger have been moved to boarding and named. There is Virgo with Taurus, Aries, Gemini, Libra, Pisces and Scorpio. And Chai with her Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Chilli. Let's hope these names are more appropriate than the Shakespeare names that were given to the kittens who were in the play place until most of Ruby's got adopted. (Just Topaz is left.) Now they are in the Palace. Today this bard's litter was weighed to see if they are near to desex weight. They are. And they are all female/tortie so half the names will need to be changed. But I noticed that their tummies were hard so I had to administer the deworming pills. They didn't mind.

This was after Katie heard Bissuria (who has been moved to Rosie and Callie's condo on Better Row because they have moved to Welfare as they are available) made up-chucking noises. She looked at the vomit and it was seething with worms! I donned gloves to remove the towel that he threw up on directly into the rubbish bin. They both got worming mixture immediately. (And refused to eat it, of course).

Bissuria
Better Row might have to have a name change to Black Row.

Miranda came from Quarantine.

Miranda
She is next door to Ella. . . don't know her history. Perhaps being above Mia is making her flat.
Ella
And Joni has been moved to the high condo which she seems to like.
Joni
In boarding is Pearl who was dumped on us by a bloke who didn't want her/couldn't keep her and wanted her put down. Bad man.

Further Adoption Tail: Coco update from Joy

 Coco

Vi and I visited Coco today and luckily there were enough chairs on the deck to accommodate us as no way was Coco going to move! And why should she?
Practiced my cat photography as she is a perfect model and even showed me her wonderful white teeth for a 13yr old Burmese!
Thought you’d like to see how happy she is …. just as happy as her owners.

Further Adoption Tail: Dynamo aka Pickles

Sydney who follows up our adoptees wrote to me:

I got a message from Dynamo’s owner in early February. I’m not sure if you remember him but he was adopted in July 2022. I believe you did an adoption blog post for him in August 2022. He was renamed Pickles. They want some photos of his brother (Jackson - a black kitten) and some photos of Dynamo when he was in our care. I could only find 5 photos of Dynamo/Pickles (including the ones I could find on this blog). Here’s his update:“Pickles is doing great! I’m sure he is loving life right now with my 2 other cats”.

Pickles aka Dynamo
His owner says he will just be a cat that can’t be picked up and will be cautious, but is still very affectionate. “When Pickles met Tiger he pretty much fell in love with her while she was giving her tortitude and hard-to-get attitude”. They kept him in their room so he would get used to them, but he would always scream at night for her,  knowing she was outside the room.

Pickles, Mumu, Tiger

The bigger cat in the photos (far right) is Tiger and they’ve had her since she was 2 months old. She was living under their partner’s house and the mother seemed to have left her. After 2 weeks of feeding her, they rescued her. She will be 2 years old this March. The small kitten (in the middle) is Mumu and he was rescued in October last year from outside their regular bouldering gym. He was left alone as well, and they fed him every night for 1-2 weeks before rescuing him. He’s 4 months old now. They would greatly appreciate any photos of him while he was with us and that they wish they had more photos of him when he was younger because “He would’ve looked so adorable!”Do any of our volunteers have any photos or videos of him that aren't already on this blog? I’m sure they would also appreciate hearing any stories about him. He was in our care from around March 2022 until his adoption in early July 2022.

Adoption Tails: Frida, Pork Bun and Ace

Frida

Days 1&2: Frida has settled in well. She’s eating plenty already! She has also used her litter box. “She’s so adorable. Looking very relaxed here!”

Frida, day 1

1 week: She’s doing really well. They’ve let her into a small part of the house which she likes to explore but definitely likes to run back to her safe room. She went to the vet for her vaccination and they were happy with how she was. She sleeps well, eats well, uses her litter tray, and is very affectionate. She’s been renamed Lucy. She’s currently snoozing on the sofa next to her owner.

Lucy = Frida, 1 week

2.5 weeks: She likes to sleep next to her owner while they’re working. If she’s awake, she likes walking across the keyboard.
Lucy = Frida, 2.5 weeks

1 month: Lucy is really well and very much part of our family now. Even their older cat has accepted he has a little sister! She is growing fast and loves playing and cuddling.
Lucy = Frida, 1 month

Pork Bun

1 day: Pork Bun is settling in well. He hasn’t eaten much - only a few bits of wet food morning and night. He’s drinking water regularly and has been using the litter tray. He has started climbing on the owner’s children for a cuddle when they sit in the room. They will be renaming him but first want to get to know him better. “He really is the sweetest little thing!”

Pork Bun, 1 day

1 week: He has been renamed Jinx/Jinxy. He has had a very busy week napping. He found his appetite on the third day and is not shy to tell his new family when he is hungry. He is very comfortable in the living room now and prefers it to his safe room.
Pork Bun = Jinx, 1 week

1 month: Jinx is doing well. He’s hungry all the time and is getting bigger by the day!

Jinx = Pork Bun, 1 month

 Ace
Ace, at Safe
1 day: He’s doing very well. He’s being renamed Sultan

1 month: He’s all good. Happy, healthy and naughty.

Lola visit

Not the current Lola but the Lola that my friend Gina adopted in August 2020.

She is very happy and slim. She is the most important animal in the house (including the other human-type animal who provides food and toys).

Gina says that she doesn't mind visitors. She greets them, allows pats, will deign to take a treat. But after a while she will make it known that it is time for the visitor to go. . . . . with a hiss and a look.

Lola's look

It was lovely to spend time with her (and Gina).

Love is the key

A woman came in this afternoon to pick up Phantom. She had been in earlier and done the paperwork. She said that she just fell in love with him. And I believed it from the look on her face. He had had a run around before she arrived. I gave her some of his special food because she has found that you can only buy ZD on-line. I think he has landed on his wobbly feet.

Prada is to move into Phantom's condo. She will be much happier there where she can chat to folk at face level not try to talk to the top of their heads.

Prada

The C kittens are still in the play place.

But the Palace has been reserved for them because Ruby only has one little jewel left. This afternoon a woman rang to ask if we had any kittens. I said we did and lots in foster homes. They arrived shortly afterwards and chose Sapphire because they have a 12 month old girl cat at home and I said they should have a boy to go with her. The other jewels were adopted on March 4, 8 and 9. The adopter's partner said that the cat at home gets 4 sachets of food every day plus crunchies. I agreed with her that was way too much.  He showed a photo of a very long, slender cat. (Maybe she has worms). But I advised them not to cut her rations when Sapphire came home because she will blame the kitten and make his life hell once they get together.
Jolene

Jolene has a larger collar on again. Her tummy wound is looking a bit inflamed.  It didn't stop her having a lovely run around this afternoon.

Ace calmly cleaned Mia's condo this afternoon. She didn't swat or scream. I think she loves him. And he couldn't smell anything bad in Mia's condo. So perhaps it is Biscuit above after all.

Biscuit
PS Thanks Joy for the photo from Wednesday. I didn't have a chance to dig my camera from my bag this afternoon.
