Four on Friday

Bronwyn came at 10am to adopt Heathcliffe. Bronwyn used to be a volunteer cleaner and has at least one of our cats at home with her two soppy Alsatians and kids who are home schooled. Her daughter "needed" to adopt Heathcliffe for her own cat. (Mum paid. . . . of course.) They will pick him up on Sunday morning (probably at 10am again). And in the meantime he has had his scheduled vaccination and should have recovered from that by Sunday. Nice for us to have time to say good bye.

Heathcliffe

Then a young man named Zane came to adopt a cat. He lives in a granny flat with his girlfriend. There is an Ozzie bulldog in the main house who is a whimp. He chose Eleanor and plans to change her name to Zara!

Her two remaining kittens will miss having mum to suck on even if there is no milk.

Erika and Evie
Their neighbour Billy got a good look at from another visitor. And a prolonged cuddle from a vollie.

Then a young couple came to choose a cat. . . or two. They eventually fell for Indy and Marcy. Despite the pairs of ginger, ex-Parvovirus boys and the paired surrendered cats like Pablo and Kenny. (So much choice, so few customers).

Indy

Marcy

Actually, more customers came. But they were just looking . . . . this time.

And somebody phoned about the two S kittens in Avalon.

Litter delivery

The lovely vollie who delivered the bags of litter says that the place we get it from is closing up shop. He is taking home, to his shed, the bags that they have left. And we are stocked up for a while. At the rate we are adopting out cats, those small bags may be gone by August.

I took the opportunity to put the drying table closer to the vollie's work space.

And the bins are close to the roller door. The nice vollie took the pallet away.
Jimmy is by himself because Bluebelle, his mum got adopted over the weekend. I didn't really think they were "a bonded pair."
Jimmy
And Eleanor lost a couple of her kittens.
Eleanor + 1

She is left with Erica and Evie who were sucking on her tummy this afternoon.

Little Pebble left the building. She has gone to a foster to adopt home because she wasn't happy with her erstwhile house mates.

Little Pebble

A woman rang up asking for a cat that she can take for walks. We suggested Ravyn. She was going to visit before 4pm if she could get a lift. Didn't arrive. Perhaps tomorrow?

Ravyn
Where Peaches and family were we have Kenny and Pablo. Don't know who is whom. One is very friendly and the other is hiding.

And the boarder Ottie is out of hiding. He was adopted from us. I don't recognise him but he accepted a pat from me.

Gary back

He is back from foster and just as cuddle-able as when he went. Others came back from Kym's as well. She has been a huge help with shuttling cats from the shelter to and from vets and has had many of our cats living at her house. Many thanks Kym.

Aslan has declared it to be winter and has taken to sleeping all day on my doona.

Aslan

Geoff visited today and showed up photos of the new shelter and talked of all the plans he has offered to help with. Thank you Geoff. The move will start on May 7 and be finalized on May 17. It will be an interesting 10 days.

The only photo I took today was as I was checking waters at the very end of the day. Eleanor, in Incoming, was calmly stirring her water bowl on the shelf below with her tail.

She has three kittens, Ebony (the black one) and the tabbies Erica and Evie.

There are four identical champagne kittens in Isolation. They seem to be very well. . . so far.

And I have been saving this photo of Autumn. She is still on wet only food. . . . hence the lean and hungry look. But the leaves on the Liquidamber along our driveway are turning so it is appropriate to include her.

Wet outside and inside

There was a thunderstorm this morning and torrents expected further north. But that all stayed outside. I created the wet inside by putting the emptied food tins in the sink to give them a bit of a clean before putting them into my rubbish tin for a fortnight. I turned on the tap, took the spoon back to the feeding desk and got distracted. Later when I went to go to the toilet before the vollies arrived, I discovered the sink overflowing and water streaming down the corridor. Oh dear! The floor there is now clean and my shoulders are tired from mopping. Thank goodness for the centrifugal mop!

Lots of cats were adopted over the weekend including Jumi, Sammy with Daisy, Garfield, Cherry (still with us waiting to be picked up) and Leo. I tried to get brownie points to counter the flood deficit by putting together 5 cat carriers.

Cherry waiting to be taken home

The man who adopted Jumi rang to say that his housemate (temporary) is allergic to Jumi. I did not say "Tough luck, get rid of the housemate." I said he should talk to Tim tomorrow.

Amy has a neighbour whom she loathes. That seems to be the usual reaction with Amy. She loathes us who feed her. She is sitting on her tummy so that her kittens can't feed from her while we are around. But she is not nearly as attacky as she used to be. I gave her kittens a dry bed (they made the flood by jumping on their water bowl) Two of them have claimed it. The third is on the outer.

Amy's kittens
I took this photo after I had carefully unfolded the bed that the kittens had carefully folded in half so that only two kittens would fit on it.

Amy's neighbour is Dusty. She has two adorable, friendly kittens who are grey, just like her.

And there is a heavenly kitten out back in Boarding called Lilly. It was very hard to get a photo of her because she wiggles with joy when a person is around. She has been desexed so will only be with us for the shortest time possible.

Lilly
Below her is Cookie and her four kittens who have a very strange collection of names: Bianca, Raja, Violet and Evie!
Cookie with Raja, Bianca, Violet and Evie
I now know how Scrat got his name.  He and Puss are now in the play place. They need more space than a double condo. When I swept their floor he ran off to hide in a small space. Later when I mopped the floor beside the play place he again ran off to hide in a small space. So he is a Scardy Cat = Scrat.

Big bags

Food was delivered today including a 20Kg bag of kitten chow. I asked Tim if he expected a lot more kittens. He replied that he expected the kittens to eat a lot more.

I had a Sunday volunteer to help clean up so we were finished by 1pm. Thank you. The litters are all in wheely cages except Diana and Danielle one of whom is not well. She isn't eating despite being tempted with every variety of food that we have. I just hope that Dale (adopted on Saturday) is OK. So it is easier to clean them. We will have to remember to disinfect their carry cages and shift them to the top for storage. . . . we need the floor room with the big bags of food!

Five F kittens fit on one square hammock.

 F kittens
The M kittens who are left are Madonna and Mozart. As I was getting out of the lift a mother and cute blond daughter arrived carrying an empty cat carrier. I assumed they were for us so asked them where they were going and escorted them up in the lift. They had come to adopt Madonna. So by this time it will be just Mozart left!

Caleb and Cooper are not on the cleaning list so get missed. Evie is not on the list either because we have run out of bandaids. She behaved perfectly for me. I bribed her into good behaviour by introducing a stratchy pole. She just needs to be distracted.

Bonnie has been upgraded to a Palace condo. She is overwhelmed. Perhaps Candace, across the way is giving her the evil eye.
Bonnie

I tried to unsquash Penny's ping pong balls but saw that she had bitten them, probably when trying to carry them around.  I got her some soft balls to carry around and her story came out. She was spotted by an animal worker being kicked by a man. The animal worker rescued her and took her to the vet who realized she was near her time and when she was put under her kittens were stillborn. So I got her a soft toy. Unfortunately it is a pink and purple bear with big, stick-on eyes. . . . perhaps that will transition her from her need to carry baby cats to a desire to rip a bear to bits.
Penny

I took a photo of Bailey because my friend might come visit him on Friday (xxxxxx fingers).

Bailey
The other big bag was all the washing from the adoption day at Petstock. Mostly sheets to cover the wheely cages. My neighbour has started working at the local Red Cross and has claimed all the cat sized cloths for me. I may just substitute new for old and bin the dirties.

Valentines Day

Kimmy was duly picked up this afternoon. Her new person seems very nice. And his friend will come to us when she needs another cat. I suggested that she get one now so that her old cat could have a companion in her old age. . . . .  worth a try!
Kimmy

Earlier somebody adopted Melody. She will be picked up soon. I feel this is a good omen for her four kittens who should all get homes tomorrow.
Melody (wants out)
Because all the stand alone cages will be needed tomorrow, I sterilized Kimmy's condo as soon as she left it so that Eve could move there. Eve has the habit of swiping vollies. I have been smooching up to her on the other side of her bars. So when it was time to move her, I rolled her stand alone to Kimmy's condo, opened the doors and Eve jumped in. Easy-peasy. . . .  not so happy Evie!
Evie
The D litter is all ready to go: Diana, Dale and Danielle. I don't know who is which. The girl who was desexed yesterday got a huge fright when she discovered that she had a collar on and both her legs were through the neck bit and the collar was chasing her around the condo. It is amazing how much noise one panicked kitten can make! Tim sorted her out but it took quite a while for her tail to collapse from 2 ins in diameter to normal (half an inch).

The C kittens love their new spacious condo. I started to clean their old one but . . . . I left it to soak another day, or two.
Caleb and Cooper
Penny is more interested in what is going on.
Penny
And Bonnie asked for pats. She has come such a long way
Bonnie

On the home front: I was given a hand woven shawl that I didn't think that a person would use but perhaps a cat might like to snuggle up to. So I got out the overlocker to sew off the fringe (no use to man or beast). And Cody came to say "It is mine. You may NOT take it to Safe Haven".

Cody
It is in his cat cave. At about 7am this morning he exchanged words/yowls with a rotund calico. He was inside: she was in his back yard. I haven't seen her before. Perhaps she is on holiday in Avalon?

Another whisker

While I was giving Blossom some attention this afternoon I noticed that she has a short whisker on her jaw bone, below her ear. She has one on each side which match. I had not noticed these back whiskers before. Tim hadn't noticed them either. Then he looked at other cats and some have them and others don't.
Caramel doesn't have them.
Candace has very visible white ones. (I gave her a corrugated scratchy pole for something to do). And I stood beside Evie and unravelled the feather toys to entertain her.)

Candace
I gave Samantha a scratchy pole. She was not impressed.

Buffy's skin is looking much better and less itchy. The hair is growing back on the shaved areas.
Buffy.
I decided that the tiny kittens should be called Fred(a) and Ginger as they play footsies. Tim says that they hope to have a naming competition for them as a fund raiser, if they can figure out how to do it.
I washed their feet which were much better than on Wednesday. Apart from a footprint on the back of Ginger's neck, he was quite clean and excessively wiggly. Freda's feet were the usual skate board of hardened poo. But she purred loudly while I soaked her feet and picked turds from between her toenails. They were rewarded by food. No wonder their tummy's are so round.

New instructions and a new vollie

Sue indoctrinated us and Robin (new vollie willing to do Joy's other Wednesday plus some other day/s. . . brilliant) on the new protocol. I mentioned that we should use the red buckets for the dirty scoops. That will be added to the protocol as it got a big tick. Let us hope that no vollies are colour blind. Because of that and that Robin is new, it took rather longer than it should have. Nevertheless, the garbo's hadn't come by when we left at 2pm so we dumped our trash bags locally which is a big win for the atmosphere in the car especially on a hot day like today.

Sue asked me to take photos of the following cats because they are all now available and can be posted on various platforms. If you have a better photo, please send it to Sue.

Cute Critters in Collars

Evie and Melody look lovely in their collars and they seem to be doing the trick comfortably.
Evie

Melody
They will be ready to be adopted soon. Evie's grey and white kitten was duely adopted. Emily is a great purrer and Eden is as handsome as a silver tabby can be. They shouldn't last long.

Eden and Emily
As I left the A kittens woke up from their hammock naps, for a moment. (I need to make more hammocks as they are getting used. The only reason this litter hasn't been desexed is that the one girl is still under one kilo. The three boys are all well over the kilo. She gets fed separately so that she gets her fair share).

A kittens
I washed the tiny kittens, again. They were only half as pooy as on Wednesday. After cleaning they look like rat tailed cats.

Blake, next door, has Egyptian khol markings from the outer corners of both his eyes. He looks particularly fetching on the pink and white blanket but rushes forward when you open his door. Another potential photo for Valentines Day.
Blake
Peanut was looking much better today than on Wednesday. The grass did the trick.
