No boarders

There weren't any this morning unless you count Jacqui's three cats in the play place. She had a problem with her roof which meant that she and the dog had to move to a B&B and the cats came to us. The roof is now fixed but the ceilings have to be dealt with. So we don't know how long her three will be with us. They were all hiding today.

And then Buffy came in to occupy the Palace. She stayed in her carry case all day. She will only be here until Friday afternoon. But the supermodels got kicked back to a double condo.

Mia and Eric were adopted over the weekend. Mary has moved into Mia's small stand alone and has taken on her mantle of being the "cuddle cat". She just loves a good patting.

Mary

Macy is not much better! We let her out for a wander and she enjoyed herself on the stratchy pole that Robyn bought in because she doesn't have a suitable place for it.

Macy
Earlier in the day, Opie shot out of his stand alone when I went to put his breakfast into it. He ran straight for the front door but detoured into the junk room. . . . thank goodness. I corralled him out of there after hastily shutting all the doors I could find. He decided not to hide under the merch shelves but popped into one of the cocoons in front. I covered the entry hole with a handy rug and carried him back to his stand alone.

Which made Sandy and I think about the difficulty of the space below the merch shelves. First we thought that we could block it up with upturned litter trays. I tried it but it seemed to create more places to hide than less. Sandy came up with the brilliant idea of cutting cardboard to fit into the slots in the shelves at the top side and have an L-angle on the floor. We found suitable boxes to cut up (there is never a lack of cardboard boxes on Wednesdays!) and it looks like it works. When they get wet, we can easily replace the cardboard. We look forward to feedback.

There is a litter of kittens where Mia's used to be in Incoming. Don't know where they came from (their names are Earl, Cosmo, Freya and Olivia!) but I gave them a hammock to play in.

Mia's three have been moved to Eric's stand alone. There were only 2 hammocks so I added another so that they each have one which made them all happy.

Zelda is back

Despite the pep talk I gave her owner last week and the telephone support Irene has provided over the weekend, Zelda's person could not provide her a safe place. Goodness knows why she thought it would be a good idea to have a young cat in a two bedroom flat with a 102year old and her daughter with carers coming frequently. We will find her somebody to love her properly. In the meantime, Belle's kittens are growing fast despite her gastric troubles. There is Baxter.
And Bugsy,
Button,
Bonnie,
And Buffy.

Belle's Buffy: Robyn reports

Buffy is tiny compared to the other four. She is feeding though, so that's good. I got another photo of Buffy with a sibling hugging her - very cute.
She's getting a bit bigger now she has some solo feeding time.

Where is the box?

The kittens in condos are cute enough to be on a chocolate box. The pair happily played in an empty box until if fell off their upper shelf. They are a bit hissy but will soon associate folk with food.
Sue has worked hard to price all the new/good-as-new donated items for visitors and vollies. I bought Cody a tall scratchy pole because the one that Catsie gave me is getting a bit scruffy and it perhaps too short for him. His first reaction was "where is the box?"
[Notice the grass in pots being revived in the rain on the table outside. Tim says that they just need to be sprayed with water to keep them watered in the condo. But some cats, eg Felix, don't like the sound of a spray bottle even when used across the aisle.] His second reaction was "This one is just the perfect size for me."
His third reaction was "What new scratchy pole?"
Some of Dolly's kittens may be ready for adoption this weekend. Tell your friends. While I sewed a patch on the mesh of the condo below Rara's he came down from his upper shelf to keep me company and play paws. His boofy, big boy head is too big for his body which is still a teenager's undernourished, fast growing, leggy, thin tailed cat-astrophy.
PS: I spoke to the lady in Mona Vale who adopted Taylor (of Buffy and Taylor fame). She says that Tutu (aka Taylor) is the love of their life and is exceptionally affectionate to her and her husband. But if anybody visits their home, Tutu vanishes. She will not come out until they disappear. If you remember, when I visited them shortly after I delivered Taylor, she hissed at me and dove into a closet. Now I feel better knowing that she treats everybody apart from her beloved parents in exactly the same way.

Missed one

I sterilized six vacated condos this afternoon.

Two were in boarding. One cat stayed three nights but another condo was only occupied by a pair of cats overnight. They were driven up from Canberra the afternoon before for an 11am appointment next door. (?No good vets in Canberra?)

Then I cleaned the condo that Willow moved into last week. That was much easier than the condo where she and her kittens lived. She was desexed yesterday and has moved to Lynette's condo.

Willow

And the condo where Wendy recovered from her desexing. It is below Lily and her babies.

Lily and No 1 son

Then I cleaned out Buffy's condo because she has been adopted! Lucky Buffy will be so happy this weekend.

 Buffy

And I cleaned the condo where Adam and Eve were because they are happy in separate wheely cages. In fact, I think Eve is much happier not to be living with Adam. He is rough and tumble and she is a gentle purr girl. Clyde delivered their previous cage from the nursing home. I dismantled it and cleaned it too. We will need to refer to the photo of it set up in the home to get it back together again.

Adam
 Eve

But I missed Milky's condo. He was adopted too. No surprise there as he is so beautiful. Cookie and Tim Tam got out of their handbag to see what all the fuss was about.

Midnight adopted

As soon as she stopped yelling, she got adopted. I hope she doesn't yell when she gets to her new home.

. . . . excuse the strange photos. See below. . . .

A kitten, white with very few, tabby makings was surrendered today. An older woman found him and took him in. But he is only about 4 months old and is full of play so she was scratched and bitten. After four rounds of antibiotics, for her, she decided that a kitten is not what she needs. He came will a pile of toys and many varieties of food so was a thoroughly spoiled. Nevertheless, he seems very sweet and he name is Bowie.

Bowie
We separated Morty from under his brothers. He has gone into Buffy's condo so that he can see them across the aisle. Within a very short period he was out in his big space. When I offered him treats, he ate them from my fingers even though he didn't want to be patted,
Morty

Lynette wanted to be patted. . . lots and lots, thank you. Her tail is quite short (not as short as WIllow's) but is very stout when she is happy.

I washed Bosley's face but it didn't make much difference. He thoroughly enjoyed the attention. . . such a wussy puss.

The W kittens will finish their medication tomorrow so I set up their wheely cage for them. It will be mayhem.

My camera ran out of battery so I took photos with my phone. Can't sync the phone to the computer. Emailed each photo to myself but none have arrived. Any tips for getting photos off an android onto a Mac will be gratefully received.
I recharged the camera battery and took photos of the mobile phone screen. Hence the arty-looking photos.

More include:
Diamond and Hera are much more in evidence since they have a quarantine sign and nobody is fussing with them.
Hera and Diamond
Charley has been moved to "adopt now" aisle. He is listed as a Himalayan/Ragdoll cross. But he is very cross at being with us and specialises in spits.

Charley
Whereas Octavia's special face is "I do not trust any human". Even those who bring gifts of dental crunchies.

Octavia

I tried to get separate photos of Haley and Harold but it was difficult to pry them apart. We really need to get them used to people smells on their bodies.
Haley
Quatro is a little shy still but her purr is bigger than she is so that it is a pleasure to spend time with her.

Gone

Shumai. Of course. His new person was on the doorstep at 10am on Thursday morning. (Shumai was posted on Pet Rescue and our website on Wednesday around noon). I had told the other enquirers on Wednesday afternoon to phone before they set off for Safe Haven. Pity they didn't come to fall in love with somebody else.

Like Baby. . .  who is a female. I judged her a male because of her lovely round face and affectionate ways. Perhaps, as she is 13 years old, we should change her name to Babette.

Although, perhaps some of Shumai's success could be because of his "Chinese" name. Ask all your Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc friends what are the cutest names for cats that they know.

But the significant thing that is gone is the huge wall "art". As soon as I walked in (with the litter) this afternoon, I realised something was different. It took a little while to realise what the difference was. It is as though a black, frowning cloud has been lifted from our space.

So I checked with Tim who agreed that Buffy should be removed from above Tammy. He suggested that she take over Shumai's condo. She is such a social cat, she will enjoy being part of the action from the middle.
Doesn't she look a happy cat!
Buffy

Haley and Harold are happy too because their wheely cage us just under the heater.

Haley and Harold

Then I noticed that Octavia's condo was open. I hopefully asked if she was at the vets being desexed. She was . . . so we didn't have to search for her. Quartro was there too. I offered to go pick them up. Tim was planning on doing it which would have made him very late home tonight (after last night's meeting which lasted until 10pm).

We put Quatro into  Jasmine's condo because as soon as she has recovered from her op, she will be adopted. Octavia needs more work.

Another ragdoll

This one, I don't know where he came from, is between 1 and 2 yo. He is a bit confused and hisses but is very happy to be made a fuss of. I thought he was a tortie because he as a gingerish blob on the back of his head. He has lovely blue eyes.

Shumai
Shumai are those dim sims that are open on top with pork inside and usually an orange garnish.

Shiba has had his name changed because Sheba is a girl's name and we only chose it because Shiba was written on the carrier he arrived in as well as his real name, Shifty. According to his microchip record, his original name was Saxon. . . . much better

Saxon

Because I did a litter run and so arrived fairly late, there was no work for me to do so I worked on the shy cats. The girl H kittens are almost OK with pats but the boys are both skittish.

I gave Buffy a good cuddle to check that she doesn't have any skin bumps after being on chicken for a week. . . . none felt and she seems much calmer/less famished. Fingers crossed. Her new person calls every week to know when she can come home.

I played ball with Sienna but she didn't want to be patted. Diva is happy to be patted but is getting very thin while Sienna looks sleek and plump. Perhaps they should be separated.

Lynette was in the mood for pats. Her tail is really thick and rather short. She is shaping up well.

 Lynette

I met Bosley for the first time. What a charmer he is! He is from a colony in Cambelltown. I suppose he has been desexed (after maturation from the size of his head) but he is pretty roughed up with a scratched nose and smells a bit. I hope he does a Peanut and cleans himself up. He has an interesting set of vocalisations! And he is as friendly as he can be.
Bosley

Jasmine is super friendly too. Get your cuddles in soon because she won't last long. She has a white spot on the tip of her nose that just begs to be kissed.

Two for one

Jaffa had a note on her name card for weeks "Save for . . . " She has gone. So I assumed she went to the lady who had adopted Jewel but didn't have the right kind of house for this shy cat. There were no hiding places for her.
Jewel

But, that lady took Tessa because she is friendly and relaxed (and also a beautiful tortie).
Tessa

Then a mother and daughter came in to look for a cat. They saw Jaffa and Josie. They took both. Now when Josie gets upset and noisy, her mother can calm her down. Perfect.
Jaffa and Josie (on right)

This is Berry (Busy Berry the boy)
Berry
And this is Fizzy (Furry Fizzy the female)

Fizzy
They are both very friendly and desperate to get out for cuddles and play. As is Cecily in the corner below Buffy.

Willow has a condo to herself now because her kittens have ringworm! They are in a wheely cage where the litter bags used to be. . . . they need further social distancing but there is no space unless we put them in the office which would be cruel. I suspect that Willow is coming into heat. . we will fix that for her.

More cats, great and small

There is a new mum below Jaffa's kittens condo. With her FIVE kittens. She seems a bit wary but the kittens are relaxed.

Lucia was out of her carrier with her fluffy. They will need names soon too.
Lucia
There is a new surrendered cat, Indiie who looks as though she has been living a bit rough. She really appreciated a brush.
Indie
Next door is another cat (forgotten his name) who looks thoroughly shocked and horrified at the change in his life.
Buffy doesn't mind, just so long as she gets more venison.
Buffy

I moved Jaffa's kittens into the wheely cage next to the front door because they have been desexed and they need some socialization. Being stuck in the high condo in the far corner has allowed them to hide. They didn't like the change of quarters much. Jaffa is perfectly friendly now that she is by herself.

Cuddle time

The Friday morning crew finished up early and had left by the time I arrived at 12:30. Or perhaps it was the smell that drove them away. I talked Tim into turning on the fan. The worst smell might have come from the A kittens. I replaced the dirty white sheet that "protects" the dreaded painting.
Angelo and Annabelle
(who deny that anything was going on)
I decided to spend time with the shy cats.
Bonnie loved her pats especially if I stroked her with her small mouse.
Bonnie

Milly wasn't keen to be touched but was soft eyed and blinky. And she was very interested in what was going on with the other cats she could see with her doors open. Kit Kat and Maggie demanded, and got, extra food. I always thought that they were both girls. But KitKat is a boy. He has the straight line of white up his nose. Her line wobbles.

KItKat

Penny was keen. She looked heartbroken when I stopped. Olivia did not want to be touched. Or even looked at, thank you.
While I was stroking Candace, who loves it, Elsa managed to knock her food bowl from her ledge. It must have given her a surprise as well as everybody else. She was probably leaning forward watching me pet Candace. I fed the escapee crunchies to her sisters who appreciated them (having eaten their own HOURS ago). And gave Samantha a box which she immediately got into. Tim suggested that she might like it better than sitting in her litter tray. She is not easy to see in the box.

Samantha
Taylor seems settled in a condo away from Buffy (who loves her venison soft or crunchie). But Taylor hadn't eaten any of her crunchies. She ate them when I put them under her nose, one by one. But not out of the bowl. . . . cats!

Taylor
