Adoption Tails: at last

The internet problem at Safe has been sorted. So we are back to catching up on adopted felines. More will follow.

Maisy, now Maisie

1 day: Maisy is settling into her new space very very well. The owner has been quite hesitant in terms of whether she was ready for Maisy to join her as she recently had her 17 year old cat Molly pass away. She is feeling anxious but ready to give this a good go. Maisy is currently staying in the bedroom with the owner and already kneading in the air. She loves to sleep in the wardrobe.
4 day: Owner is less anxious than she was. Maisy is drinking a bit and finally did a poop after eating small bits of dry food over the past days. Maisy is still pretty much non-stop and has boundless kitten energy left in her. She wants to go into everything. She would play all day if the owner had the time or energy (she works full time and has injured her knee). By the end of the second day, Maisy was meowing to be left out of her safe room and pawing at the door when the owner was working in another room. The door to her safe room was ultimately left ajar so Maisy could come and go as she pleased. The owner has also been spending her focused time with her and playing in the safe room rather than elsewhere in the unit (the exploration of the unit is left entirely up to Maisy's terms). Maisy has not been disturbing at night too much but usually will wake up her owner before dawn. When she settles down to rest (very rarely), she is just adorable and affectionate. The owner's main concern is that she is unable to provide Maisy with the attention/energy needs though the cat has already become her shadow.
5 day: The owner has gone out to buy some interactive toys and puzzles for Maisy. She is sticking to a good routine and the two are doing great! Miss Maisie (same name, different spelling) has settled into her new home in less than a week. The owner loves her to bits and is completely smitten. The only concern remains to be Maisie's ongoing lack of wet food consumption. She continues to thrive on attention, affection and play far more than food (even though she's a bit overweight!). The owner has tried many different wet foods and nothing is grabbing Maisie who mainly eats her dry biscuits and then a bit of the (by then crusty) wet food in the middle of the night or early morning.

1 week: Maisie has been cracker-scratching on the furniture and the owner has been advised on redirecting the scratching. She seems to be very happy and is definitely a little shadow to the owner, wanting nothing more than to be near her. Maisie continues to have a low appetite (no wet food & not huge amounts of dry kibble either) and only had 3 poops since coming home. She is otherwise perfectly fine, adores playing which the owner is enjoying quite a lot too. The owner was out briefly this morning and came home to 2 big vomits of dry food (no fur in it).
1 month: "Maisie Moo" lives a "tough life"... Eating nicely (in her own unique way... a bit at a time over several hours, the least food motivated cat one can imagine). Maisie is all about playing and affection. Such a smooch when she is in the mood. Despite a couple of wobbly weeks at the start, the owner now can't imagine life without her. She and Maisie found each other at just the right time. After 2 years of so much grief and loss, the owner was given the cat she didn't even know she needed and brought so much healing to her grieving soul. "So grateful for SAFE rehoming."
Happy Maisie

Becky, now Boni

1 day: Becky seems pretty withdrawn and scared at the moment. She had a big day at the vet yesterday. She’s been hiding behind a set of shelves since the owner brought her home. He has since left her alone and was in another room last night. He plans to be around her safe room a bit today. It doesn’t look like she’s eaten or used her litter tray yet. The owner will give her a new name but keep Becky as her middle name. He is hopeful that she starts feeling better and settling in soon.
Boni says "what am I supposed to do with this?"

1 week: The owner has named her Bonita, Boni for short. She is going better than the first few days. She’s been eating a lot more and used her litter last night. She hadn’t been eating much before the last couple of days but is now finishing her bowls. Boni still hides under the armchair and had not interacted with the owner much except looking at him a bit when she’s eating. The owner mostly works from home, in the same room where she is hiding, so he’s hoping she gets used to him soon. She hissed at him a bit when he placed her food and water bowl near her under the chair.
Boni says: "this is more entertaining"

No 1 month response.

PS Maisy

Maisy

And the lady who adopted Maisy came in to see if we had a laser toy. Or any other toy that she doesn't already have. We didn't.

It seems that Maisy is the crazy playing cat who demands constant attention.

When she is not playing she is cuddling, cooing and smooching with her owner.

Needless to say, her owner is delighted.

But she plans a holiday, for the first time in a dozen years and is worried that Maisy will not forgive her if she goes away. She plans to board Maisy with us for one, or two, nights before she goes just to see if she will cope. And if all goes well she will board Maisy with us for the week that she is away. She was rather horrified to see that some of our boarders (the laid back ones) were scheduled to be with us for a month. Likewise some of the cranky ones!

But the alternative is to pay somebody $650 to live in with Maisy for a week!

Happy Pearl

Today I discovered that it was our Arc who adopted Pearl. What a relief. I imagined that he was devastated that she had been snatched from him. She loved him best at Safe Haven. And from the photos loves him best at home too.

Pearl

A woman came in today to do the paperwork to adopt Aster. She had been taken off the list because of the ringworm spot on her ear. But this woman and her daughter had seen her and fallen in love. They are convinced that she will fit right in with their 16 year old cat and doodle dog. And they are happy to wait until mid July to pick her up. She will be much bigger then than she is in this photo with her sibling River.

And a couple came in with Luna, aka Maisy whom one of them adopted 3 years ago from us. They are going to move in together and are uncertain whether their separate cats will get on well together. So Luna is getting time out with us while they sort out the move.

https://safehavencats.blogspot.com/2020/09/sewing-circle.html tells of when she arrived.

Kat has some bare patches under both ears. It is probably food sensitivity. Ringworms are not bilateral. She really wants her own person to love.

New bins

Tim has organised a new rubbish collection for a twice weekly pick up of the garbage: 2 bins for this. And one bin for cardboard waste. Hurrah. Except that the bins didn't arrive as promised yesterday, or today. Perhaps tomorrow!

We comforted ourselves by adopting cats.

A couple arrived at 5 to 11 to adopt Delilah who was in a foster home in Hornsby. She arrived at 5 past 11.

Then a lady arrived to look for a cat to replace her older cat who recently died. She had picked out Libby, Ginger George and Max from the web page. She met them all but didn't click until she met Maeve who was delighted to meet somebody who was prepared to give her all the attention that she wants.

At that stage another couple (mother and daughter) arrived looking for a pair of cats. I showed them the usual suspects and they fell under the spell of Tibby and Tabby. The mum said that her daughter really needed somebody to love. Perfect! And the mum is a doctor. Perfecter! And they live in a small apartment with no stairs. Perfectest! Done deal.

Then my friend Liz arrived to get a pair of cats. She wanted somebody that she could pick up.

Ginger George likes to be picked up
But who to pair him with? After introducing her to Vivienne and Calvin, the job was done. Her grandson will be delighted. As will her husband. (Thanks for the photos Robyn).
Calvin and Vivienne
Calvin and Vivienne's stand alone was cleaned for Hank and Princess. The sign says that you can get to the litter tray through the door on the side of the stand alone. Princess just came back from the vet.

And Chia and kittens moved into Tibby and Tabby's condo.

Meanwhile the lady who loved Maeve, moved on to Maisy and fell deeper in love with her. She will be back on Saturday to adopt her. So much for wanting an older cat! It was mutual and irresistible.

Maisy
Meanwhile, in Incoming, I asked if the stand alone by the door had been cleaned this morning. Katie and Tim assured me that it was and that one of the torties there loves to play with water and flip the wet litter all over the place. What a grub. Her sisters are not impressed.

It was you

Sewing circle

Today I repaired the hole in the mesh that Hera and Diamond made. John next door donated the mesh. I provided the needle and thread and the cats watched. Katie just above to the right purred throughout. She made music for me to stitch by.
Hera and Diamond were fascinated. They have forgotten their part in the hole.
Beyond Katie, Peggy was fascinated.
Even Mally wanted to know what was going on. Or maybe he just interested in the music Katie was singing.
We got it done and now can admire the moire effect of two adjacent grids. Will it survive a cat's claws?
Apricot has gone to Sue's house to be turned into a brave cat. We have a replacement ginger puss called Billy.
We have a new cat called Emma because Emma brought her. We don't know if we will keep her.
There is a new mum with bubs under where Abbey used to be in Boarding. I didn't realise that she had bubs in her carrier. I got her confused with the other mum with bubs at the other end of Boarding, who has been named Dolly.
And there is a new cat called Maisy under Leopold.
Not to mention the fact that Larry and Leonard went home today. The lovely man who adopted them may just come back to adopt Lucia as well. But I think that is greedying too many greys.
