Adoption Tails: Pete, Maeve, Samson, Delilah, Poppy

  Pete (aka Alfie)

2 weeks: “He is the most wonderful cat. He is confident and is happy to move around the house at his leisure.” He has been renamed Alfie. “He is loved and cared for.”

1 month
: “He is the best cat in the world”.

Maeve

1 day: She is doing great! She has used her litter tray and she is eating and drinking. She was hiding at first but is exploring a lot now. They will be renaming her but haven’t settled on a name yet. “We are very much besotted with her”
Maeve, 1 week
1 week: She is doing great! She has explored the house a bit and has been playing with her owners too and loving cuddles! She is still mostly staying near her hiding hole and venturing out at night but definitely getting more confident. Her new name is Luna!1 month: “She’s doing amazing! And she’s managed to win over our other cat too!”
Maeve, aka Luna, 1 month

Samson, now Jeremy

1 day: He seems fine. Very shy and quiet at the moment but all looks normal. He has toileted and eaten but then vomited (which the owner suspects is part of settling in). Now called Jeremy.
1 week: Everything seems OK. However, Jeremy is pooping everywhere but the litter tray and seems to like the sink and shower.
1 month: Jeremy is well settled in and using his litter box!

Delilah, now Cassie

1 day: She's doing great! Settling in well and she loves cuddles and pats. No problems at all with eating/drinking or using the litterbox. The family has renamed her Cassie.
Delilah = Cassie
1 week: Cassie's great! She's exploring the house this morning. Very curious kitty.

1 month: Cassie's great! She's well adjusted and loves to play! She's very cheeky and funny, loves to run around, sleep on the bed of the owners' desk chairs.

Poppy, now Coco

1 day: Poppy was picked up from foster and has been staying in the spare bedroom. The owner bought her a donut bed but she is hiding under the vanity. Eating very well and is gradually getting used to the owner but still quite timid. In the afternoon, Poppy has popped her head out to have a good look around.
1 week: Poppy is coming out of her shell. She is eating well and the owner has been about to pick her up and cuddle her as of yesterday. Previously, Poppy was only allowing pats with lots of purring.
1 month: Poppy is now renamed to Coco, the owner's previous cat was called Poppy. Coco is doing really well.

Still tidy

The laundry shelves. I added to the stacks in a colour coordinated manner and went to get my camera to take a photo. On the way I noticed all the torties having their time out:

Donatella and McQueen nibbling a pot of grass

Callie watching from her condo (earlier she was in  Ginger George's stand alone)

Lyra sat in her condo with the door open all afternoon just watching

Helena up close to the barrier and Kate hanging back (as usual).

And I forgot to take a photo of the laundry shelves. And then got too busy to take any other photos.

Cookie was adopted late this afternoon. Her test came back negative so her person is happy. Her sisters are in the Lucky condo and are quite shy. Virgo has moved to were Maeve was. And Chia has moved to under Belle. (Shadow looks moth eaten around his rear). And two pairs of cats from Better Row have moved into their double condos below Libby.

Maggie and her crew may have ringworm but they are full of beans. They manage to squeeze out of the Royal Cannin standalone in the narrowest of door opening spaces. They can get through a gap that I can't get my hand through. Adele's lot are angels by comparison.

More ringworm

Maggie and her kittens may have it. How did that happen?

They have been removed from the play place and installed, by Ark, into the Royal Cannin stand alone in Isolation. No more rocketting out at meal times to run like maniacs up and down the aisles.

I scrubbed, bleached and fogged the fungi out of the Play Place. Some Incoming cats where having a play there when I left.

A customer arrived with her husband. Her previous cat was a client of Dr Kim so she was fascinated to visit. Her name was Sue and when I introduced myself as Prue it took her right back to Kath and Kim days. She wants a cat who will be just like the previous one (always a mistake) and who will sit by her side as she works from home, help her do jigsaw puzzles and escort her around the garden, in fine weather. Ginger George is a no brainer. She liked him, and Gemini, and Maeve, and Ruby and Maria. She is going to think about it overnight. So you might have a customer tomorrow, Terry. The husband is the strong silent type who will go along with whatever she decides.

Davo was named after the Davidson Fire Rescue team. Geoff and he get on really well together. He won't let anybody else touch him. Geoff may be off to Canada in 10days to help with the continuing forest fires there. It seams that the peat bogs are still burning as well as the forests. He will be there for 5 weeks if he goes. (He won't be allowed to go if he throws another ringworm lession).

Can't imagine how I managed to stay so busy that I didn't think of taking any photos. Random photos:

Thelma and Louise enjoyed their chicken. They are getting friendlier by the week.

Thelma and Louise
Melody lets Tim pat her.
Melody
And one of the Friday vollies is in love with Hanna who rather likes her too. They share treats and coos.

Lola will follow the sent of chicken for any distance. (And scream for seconds until I leave.)

Rootless

I noticed today that the Morten Bay Fig that grows on the cliff opposite our verandah is not looking well. A section of it's leaves are yellowed. Morten Bay Fig trees do not loose their leaves in autumn. I suspect it might be happening because somebody, with a chain saw, cut through the roots that run down the cliff face to the gutter beside our driveway. This may have been a spectacularly stupid thing to have done. Time will tell.

In the meantime, two of Virgo's boys have been adopted. She looks much more relaxed than she did when she had five boy kittens. Here she is with everybody piled on top of her. Her daughter is wearing the collar.
Virgo +4

And Jordan got adopted. Of course.

Milo has a leave by date: June 24. He can't wait to get home.

Milo

Maeve has moved to above Chia et al. She might regret the move because they are a rowdy lot and she enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Boarding row. I didn't have any trouble moving her. She stayed in her box. If you miss Opie, he might be hiding in the blue box in the foyer.

Where's Opie?

Geoff spent some time trying to ensure that the Top Cat is safe for the folk who set it up. There is a cord at the top between the middle bit and one side that ensures that the "roof" does not fall onto somebody's head when it is swung over and that cord is not in place. If you disconnect the cord in order to make it a line rather than a 3 sided square, please put it back when the apparatus is stashed or the next folk might be brained.

Geoff might be whisked off to Canada to help with the wild fires there. The organisers are overwhelmed so it might not happen which will be good for us. But imagine what interesting critters he could rescue in the Canadian wilderness!

Second bin

We now have two Cousin waste bins and one paper Cousin bin. They emptied one of the two waste bins this morning but not the paper bin. But they did empty the paper bin earlier in the week. All good progress. We will hang onto our Willoughby bins until the Cousins are working twice a week, every week.

Geoff brought us a cat who had been found tick bit in a bit of bushland that his firey friends were burning off. The cat went to the vet for paralysis treatment and has recovered. Dean asked me what kind of cat he was. I answered "a shaved cat". He is very, very friendly. Goodness knows how he found his way into the bush. His name is Davo.

Davo, shaved cat

Another friendly newcomer is Jordan. He is way below Pearl (at floor level). He is a happy, stocky, energetic, hungry kitten who will be a delightful pet.
Jordan
Maeve is settling back down to be her purring, loving self.
Maeve
Gingi has been moved into Incoming because his skin is breaking out again. He is allowed to wander in the afternoon and he may be scavanging food that he is not supposed to eat. He enjoyed being carried in my arms. His condo is needed for boarders. I hope that Pearl will be adopted before the next holidays. She is getting so confident and loving.

Another kitten moved out of Incoming is Dahlia. She where Ussie used to be. Ussie was adopted over the weekend as was Chanel and Luigi. Don't think Dahlia will last long.

Maeve returns

Geoff brought her back. He dismantled the chest of drawers that she was hiding behind, sat beside her quietly for a little while, picked her up and put her in his small carrier. The woman who adopted her is in hospital with a cat bite. She has had lots of experience with cats, possums and bandicoots but has never been bitten before.

By Maeve!

Our purrball Maeve!

Perhaps Maeve really wanted to be back with us and this was the only way she could manage it.

Maeve

Geoff decided that some of the back cats should have a wander while he did the feeds tonight as the usual suspects had a fine time out this afternoon. Maxwell was out in front. He settles down on top of Ginger George's stand alone after a short stretching walk.
Maxwell
Thelma and Louise ventured out but popped back into their condo when anybody approached.
Thelma and Louise

I really must find out who is who.

Geoff was going to give Pearl a wander as well as she is food motivated. Ginger Meggs is still not interested. There are two new cats on the other side of Gingi: Little Monster and Fluffy. No prizes for guessing who is who in this bonded pair!

Bins arrived

But only half of them: one each for paper/cardboard and general waste. Better than nothing. Where we will store all the bins is another problem to be solved.

Jasmine was adopted yesterday. But not by the mum with 2 pretty daughters. A mum with a son adopted her. So, the mum with 2 might come tomorrow to get Maeve or Ruby. Their choice will be complicated by the additional cats there are to choose from today. Who could resist:

Biscuit with that pert tongue (which pokes out because her canines have been removed).

Biscuit
Milo and Olga who have moved to where Charlie and Champ were. (A vollie adopted them and is very happy). Milo was out with the gang this afternoon. He is a smaller version of Simon and is very interested in food. He kept going into other people's condos looking for anything edible. Olga stayed put.
Milo and Olga
Ussie who is where Jasmine used to be. S/he is a bit wary but not hissy.
Ussie

And Pearl is available. She has recovered from her initial shyness and is all over pats and attention. Unfortunately she is still out back in boarding, up in the heavenly condo. There should be some rearrangement to bring her into Welfare. (Perhaps Lucky boy can go to Better Row.)

Pearl

Geoff had a shock when he arrived. Chia's kittens had eaten a hole in the cat mesh that he installed. It is supposed to be cat proof. He took lots of photos of the mended hole (I wove in cable ties to keep the kittens in), the hole with the cable ties removed, the hole with a kitten contemplating escape. He will send them to the manufactures of the "chewproof" mesh. Perhaps we will get a refund.

Geoff removes the cable ties for the photo shoot

Not yet

The bins have not been delivered yet.

But this afternoon the woman who adopted Tibby and Tabby on Wednesday brought back the carrier that I loaned to transport them. ( I was not prepared for them to decide that they would put off adopting the cats because they didn't bring a carrier with them!) I, momentarily, didn't recognise her. She looked younger and happier. She said that Tibby and Tabby are still a little shy but are settling in well and are delightful.

Lola had an adventure yesterday. She has been allowed out at the end of the day to explore "Opies Room". Somehow, the Thursday person locked that door. When Geoff arrived on Thursday rather than on Friday he found Lola missing. And learned that she was locked in Opies room. So he climbed through one of the moveable tiles in the passageway ceiling, wiggled through the ceiling space, dropped down into Opies room so he could let Lola out and back to her stand alone for her dinner and medication. She is on thyroid meds which come in the form of a cream to be applied to alternate ears. I discovered this afternoon when doing the night feed, that she will only let you touch her ear if there is something particularly delicious in her dish.

There are a new pair of cats on Better Row: Tori and Mabel. Where did they come from? Horrid photo with a flash because they hide.

Tori and Mabel
But, for some reason, Hana was out this afternoon. She needs to be brushed. That is the next big challenge!

Hanna
Mothers Day was having a preview this afternoon. A father and daughter arrived to check out the cats to find one who would go with their whimpy dog. Ginger George wouldn't have any problem with a dog.

GG trying to look innocent on the filing cabinet where the treats were stashed

Then a mum with her two teenaged daughters arrived to look for a cat. They liked Ginger too. And Maeve. So tomorrow might just be busy.

New bins

Tim has organised a new rubbish collection for a twice weekly pick up of the garbage: 2 bins for this. And one bin for cardboard waste. Hurrah. Except that the bins didn't arrive as promised yesterday, or today. Perhaps tomorrow!

We comforted ourselves by adopting cats.

A couple arrived at 5 to 11 to adopt Delilah who was in a foster home in Hornsby. She arrived at 5 past 11.

Then a lady arrived to look for a cat to replace her older cat who recently died. She had picked out Libby, Ginger George and Max from the web page. She met them all but didn't click until she met Maeve who was delighted to meet somebody who was prepared to give her all the attention that she wants.

At that stage another couple (mother and daughter) arrived looking for a pair of cats. I showed them the usual suspects and they fell under the spell of Tibby and Tabby. The mum said that her daughter really needed somebody to love. Perfect! And the mum is a doctor. Perfecter! And they live in a small apartment with no stairs. Perfectest! Done deal.

Then my friend Liz arrived to get a pair of cats. She wanted somebody that she could pick up.

Ginger George likes to be picked up
But who to pair him with? After introducing her to Vivienne and Calvin, the job was done. Her grandson will be delighted. As will her husband. (Thanks for the photos Robyn).
Calvin and Vivienne
Calvin and Vivienne's stand alone was cleaned for Hank and Princess. The sign says that you can get to the litter tray through the door on the side of the stand alone. Princess just came back from the vet.

And Chia and kittens moved into Tibby and Tabby's condo.

Meanwhile the lady who loved Maeve, moved on to Maisy and fell deeper in love with her. She will be back on Saturday to adopt her. So much for wanting an older cat! It was mutual and irresistible.

Maisy
Meanwhile, in Incoming, I asked if the stand alone by the door had been cleaned this morning. Katie and Tim assured me that it was and that one of the torties there loves to play with water and flip the wet litter all over the place. What a grub. Her sisters are not impressed.

It was you

Loose screw . .

. . .  on the right side of Virgo's condo. There is a screwdriver in a jar on top of the filing cabinet to tighten it up. Nothing wrong with Virgo that won't be cured by her kittens growing up.

Vicky wanted photos of some of the cats that need to go up on the Adoption list. Joy took some beauties. I helped Vicky find out what the cats are like.

Maxwell is a love. He chirrups and loves to play and although he looks a bit rough he is really a sweetie.

Maxwell
Maeve is out on Better Row and hides on her upper shelf. I climbed the ladder and found that she wasn't a bit interested in the creamy treat but was very interested in being patted and petted.

Maeve

Just like Jasmine who is a lovely cat and couldn't get enough attention.

Jasmine
She can't mix with other cats in Welfare because of her infection history. Her kittens, Rajah and Genie have been moved to Welfare and have the same quarantine restriction. They are where Milo used to be. Milo is around the back in Boarding.
Rajah

Genie

McQueen and Donatella have been taken off the adoption list (I thought they had been chosen) because they have an intestinal infection that is being treated. I decided not to change their hammocks which are looking grubby.

McQueen and Donnatella
They had an interesting afternoon because Cammy decided to tidy up the merch shelves. They look much better. We decided that duplicate of cat beds can be stored elsewhere (in Opies Room). And I think we should give everybody who adopts a cat a free cat bed for the rest of the month. . . . at least.

Adoption Tails: Amelia and Maeve/Margie

Amelia with her kittens
 Amelia, adopted April 1, 22
1 day: Spent most of the day underneath an armchair in her room... drank and used the litter tray. Ate at night and explored a little bit.

Amelia = Queenie
1 week: Becoming a bit more inquisitive, has access to two connected rooms so far but not too sure if Amelia (nicknamed Queenie) has ventured out much, LOVES her food and will scoff everything down. (She vomited once from eating too quickly). We suggested that, if it is possible, they can give her three meals a day (same total daily amount). Amelia seems more comfortable with the husband as he works in the same room she stays in but will occasionally hiss at the wife when she cleans the litter box so we suggested that she can just stay in the same room as Amelia without doing anything for Amelia to get used to her presence.
1 month: Amelia is doing well, eats as though every meal will be her last.. and loves exploring at night. She has a nice view from her room and sits up on the windowsill to survey her domain. She is queen of our place we call her Queenie. She will follow us but as yet no physical contact. Her toilet habits are excellent. She is a very tidy cat. I think we love her more than she loves us... but we will give her time. Thanks so much for SAFE’s support.

Amelia's view

PS We still have the other Amelia who had kittens when Queenie Amelia had hers at Safe.

Maeve and Margie Adopted March 26, 22 from foster home. We have their brother, Matteo in SH now.
1 day: Getting used to the place and exploring

Margie

1 week: Getting on great, eating well and toileting in their litter trays properly. M&M are lots of fun.

Maeve

1 month: They are getting on really well... lots of fun.

Maeve and Margie
