Adoption Tails: Teddy and Talia (above Dexter), Cass

Teddy

2 days: He’s been great so far and is settling in really well. He’s eating three meals a day and has used the cat litter. They have slowly left the door open to introduce him to the house and he seems really happy to roam and have cuddles. They love the name Teddy so they won’t be renaming him. They only ever watch him when he’s roaming and leave him in the bedroom when they’re not home.

1 week: “He’s very happy and settled now. He’s taken over the house now!”

1 month: “Feels like we have had him forever! The kids just love him, he’s definitely getting more playful but is still super chill and LOVES his food! He’s been such a great addition to our family.”

Talia, now Tilly - adopted with Cass from the black and white litter

1 day: Cass and Talia have settled well, eating, using the litter tray and are affectionate. They now have access to three rooms and Cass zooms with her ping pong balls. Tilly is much more cautious but takes a brief pat. The two of them are relaxed with each other.

3 weeks: The owner had surgery and hence delayed the response until later. Cass and Tilly eat their breakfast and will zoom around until lunch. Both generally sleep until dinner, play together and then tuck in for the night. Cass is happy being picked up but Tilly won't have it. The family can pat her but she refuses to be handled. Both are growing and tidy in their habits. "It's lovely to have them here."

1 month: Cass and Tilly are doing well, collared but still indoors, eating well and growing. They eat breakfast and then zoom and play, after lunch they mainly sleep until dinner - but can hear when anyone is in the kitchen! They are very different cats in nature, Tilly is still more hesitant but play well together.

Michelle, now Nico  she was adopted with Indiana Ginge from the Acting Litter

1 day: They are doing well. Both have eaten and used the litter and drinking water! They're still getting used to each other but not anything too bad. There hasn't been any physical fist fights so far, just rumbling growls. "All talk and no action thankfully." Indiana will stay Indiana (suits his adventurous nature!) and Michelle is now August, Augie for short.

1 week: The introduction process has gone super well! Indiana and August are getting along well and the introduction to the resident cat has been super good as well.

1 month: Indiana and Nico are doing so well! Fully settled in together with the resident cat Jin. They are growing well and are super sweet and cheeky!

John, now Sox - 6712

1 day: John has been renamed to Sox by the owners. He is settling in very well! Happily eating, drinking and using his litter box.

1 week: Sox has been settling in very well!

1 month: No response.

Denny, now Lewis

1 day: “Denny is wonderful!” He has been renamed Lewis and is already responding to his new name. Lewis is comfy in his safe room and his owner has practically not left his side. He has frequently used his litter box, eaten wet and dry food, and taken small sips of water. “We’ve also gotten Lewis adjusted to his new bed where he is constantly baking the biscuits. Every few minutes we give him a play with his toys. He is so energetic and playful! We treat him with dried chicken when we see that he is doing well.” Slowly but surely, Lewis and their resident pet Trillian will meet face to face. For now, they have been sniffing and seeing each other through the glass door in the room. “Both have shown no aggression whatsoever and have grown a likeness towards each other already. We couldn’t be happier with our option. We love him so so much!”

12 days: “Lewis is doing so well. We are having so much fun with him! He has explored the whole house and with Trillian too. They are sniffing each other here and there, playing and sleeping next to one another which is great to see!”

2 months: “Lewis is doing amazing still.” Everything is going well with Trillian and new visitors in the house. “He has gotten more and more playful with his toys, and comfortable with his bed that he is currently snoozing in right now. One of his favourite things to do is to bake biscuits on my oodie”

Blossom adopted

She was adopted yesterday last thing. Don't know who to. And I can't imagine why she should have been chosen ahead of Cindy Clawford, Betty or Pickle. But, thank goodness, . . . . it takes all types. And we have a cat to match any type.

Including a new boy called Big Kahuna. When seen from the rear you can tell that he was well named but that they have been taken care of. From the front, he has chopped off whiskers and several wounds around his neck that necessitate the Elizabethan collar and shave job.

Big Kahuna
Don't know why his whiskers were cut unless it was to "stop him from leaving his new home". This was supposed to work like buttering the cat's paws to keep it in a new house. Old wives tales might work some times. And I don't know how he got the wounds but he is a real sweetie.

As is Mr Garfield in Incoming now that he has stopped screaming for attention. He has learned that meals come at regular intervals and that cuddles and naps are allowed.

Mr Garfield
We have a new girl called Annabelle who is in Michelle's small stand alone by the front door. I don't think she will last as long as Michelle did because she is white and just as friendly. Don't know her history.
Annabelle
Bonny and Ricky have been moved from Isolation. They used to compete for food there but seem to be friends now.

And what was Lola doing today?

Lola

She put herself into her stand alone, settled down in her hammock and then made love to her blankie! Talk about teaching old cats new tricks!

And the Fab Five. . . .

happily eat anything they are given.

Thanks for the photos Joy and Robyn. (Have a good trip Joy and lovely to have you well enough to spend time with us Robyn.)

Ants

I came home today to find ants in Cody's quarter full bag (4Kgm) of crunchies. It has been a very bad summer for ants here in Sydney and I had not sealed the zip seal properly last time I scooped out a jam jar of crunchies. Be warned. And hope that ants don't discover the Safe crunchy shelves!

I moved Pickles from Isolation (aka Maternity) into Dancer's enclosure. No, Dancer hasn't been adopted. She has been moved next to Angel and Rory and Little have moved to the condo below Virgo.

Pickles and co love their new space. They were acrobatic when exploring the possibilities when they first moved in. There are 3 hammocks. Top two have one kitten each, bottom one has two kittens. Mum gets to sleep on the floor.

Penelope and Dot were brought in by their foster carers. And left them with us accompanied by tears. They are quite young so should settle down well (both cats and people). [Dot is a boy and has a spot above his right eye].

Josie's kittens are doing very well. They are plump and adventurous. A grand advertisement for not having 7 kittens at one time like Betty did. Her lot have gummy eyes and empty tummies because she has quit feeding them.

Josie and her ginger

PC had time out today and got to meet Michelle. She was not impressed. He was much more interested in being groomed with the strange blue cylindrical toy-thing.

Useful blog

Charley was surprised when Martin was missing this morning. And Callie. I said to myself "You should read the blog".

Then later she asked if I knew who was Little and who was Rory. This time I said it out loud. And brought up the blog on the computer so that I could be reminded who is who. Little has the white on the right cheek and Tory has white on his left cheek. Charley took a photo of the blog url so now can keep up.

The other way I keep up is by making a list of all the cats available on our web site and crossing them off when they get adopted. It gets pretty chaotic by the end of the month.

January 2024

March 2024 so far

Why is Angel still with us?

I had to leave at 1pm just when a former vollie had finally decided to adopt Tinkerbelle rather than Gemma. Tinkerbelle's name will be changed. Her new owner stopped being a vollie because she kept bursting into tears. But now she wants a cat of her own and came to us to choose. Tinkerbelle was in Martin's stand alone and Gemma was happy having her next door. Michelle moved into Callie's stand alone by the front door.

Tinkerbelle
Tim had to do the adoption because I had to leave after feeding lunches. And Sandy's adopter was due in at 1:30 to pick her up, at last. Poor Tim wasn't looking forward to the mystic mumbo jumbo.

Magic has gone home with her fosterer.

When I arrived one of the boarder's condo door's was open. It didn't take me long to find Oscar. He was under the food shelves bellowing. I don't think he could get out even though he got in. So I removed the laundry bins, food bags, etc, etc and lifted up the shelf. He stood up and stepped out, into my embrace so I could carry him back to his condo.

Sorry for the old photos but I never think about taking any until 4pm.

Surprises

I was late again after taking DH to the eye injecting doctor. There were very few vollies and all worked hard . . . . especially Catsie who not only did Incoming but also did the washing up. That is devotion!

The rubbish hadn't been picked up when I got there. And I didn't have a moment to think of it until I left. There are bags and bags on the verandah and the Cousins bins to be filled (with only 30Kg please) tomorrow.

There was one woman who came in to adopt Angel. I think she was taken by the name. The kitten is not particularly angelic. But the woman was convinced that Angel was the kitten to replace her ragdoll who loved to sit beside her. She really wanted a small dog but couldn't find one. Pity I didn't know last week when somebody rang to surrender their family's chihuahua and I couldn't help them.

Angel
Luke is her condo mate but, while they like to play together they are not particularly bonded
Luke
So we went through the adoption process until it got to the place when I ask for $375 dollars for a kitten. "But your website says that they cost $70!" So I checked our website and there was no mention of $70. "It must have been another website that I was looking at." Indeed. She will be back tomorrow when her pension cheque is deposited and she has enough money to pay for her angel.

Then some schoolgirls arrived with a collapsible cage. . . probably one of ours from the time when one of the girls fostered our kittens. I said, of course, "have a look at our lovely kittens". So they did. Go look at Tinkerbelle, I said. And the one who was in the foster home did and she reported on the cute kittens in the condo next door to Tinkerbelle. "Really" said I and went to check:

two indistinct blobs behind Josie

behind Josie

Tim said that the "thread" in the mid ground might be umbilical cord.

More babies!

And Betty is not eating. She looks very thin all of a sudden. Tim has seen her suckling her 7 but mostly she just sits and looks sad.

The stand alone from incoming has decanted Cass, Michelle, Denny and John into the enclosure next door to Patch and Lily. I think they are getting used to kittens for neighbours.

black and white forever
