Adoption Tails: Pickle and her litter

Pickle

1 day:  Pickle is doing well. She's quite curious and not hiding away from the family. She has been eating, drinking and using
her litter tray. The family will keep her given name. The kids love her! They've yet to introduce Pickle to the family dog and will do so gradually as suggested by the info sheet provided.

1 week:  Pickle seems quite settled now. She has her safe room that she goes to if she feels a bit unsure. Her stitches ended up being removed by the vet as the owner had some questions about her care. The resident dog is slowly getting used to her - they have met each other under supervision and still have separate spaces at this stage. The family expects it will be a bit of a journey for them both.

1 month: The family and Pickle are all getting into a routine at home now. Her furbaby brother and her are getting along well. He doesn't even care if she sleeps on his bed. She is particularly fond of the youngest son so she sleeps in his room but roams around the house with the dog.

Dill aka Shadow

4 days: She is eating, drinking, and has used the litter box. She is doing really well and has been renamed Shadow. She has a bathroom as her safe room (by necessity) and is adventuring around in there as well as sitting on their laps, rubbing herself on them, etc. She is very food-oriented but they are sticking to 2-3 small handfuls of dried biscuits and wet food in the morning.

1 week: She’s exploring the flat now. She was getting very impatient to get out of the bathroom.

1.5 weeks: “She’s exploring the whole flat now, and while she’s still easily frightened she’s also very curious.”

40 days: “Shadow is the undisputed boss of the house and loves to run around the top of all the furniture. We got her a climbing/scratching tower too to survey outside from indoors.” She’s ultra-affectionate which the kids love and is very happily settled.

Cucumber & Brine aka Mango

Brine was first adopted by the family who adopted Cookie about a year ago. Cucumber was then also adopted by them a few days later.

1 day: The family loves Brine. She's so affectionate and playful. She's currently called Mango. Eating and drinking fine, had a bit of runny poo but is improving already.

Brine/Mango

1 week: Cucumber was pleased to see her sister! The family will keep them in a room for a few weeks before gradually introducing them to Cookie and Snoop.

Cucumber

1 month: Mango is all good, embodies "thug life" at home and has no problems settling in. Everybody has been getting along really well. Cucumber (currently Coco, potentially Dot if the mum can get her way) has been having some toileting accidents where she is missing the tray. She was also more timid than Mango and had some soft poos at the beginning. The family will get an additional tray and find a suitable spot where Snoop the dog cannot get into. Snoop, Cookie, Mango and Coco are all getting along really well, cuddling on the sofa together at times. Snoop can get a little over excited but the cats will let him know it's enough and they will end up cuddling together again.

Cucumber with Snoop

Caper  aka Whisper

1 week: “His name is Whisper and he’s settled really well.” His owner’s office is his safe space but he’s exploring the house. “He’s all good.”

1 month: Whisper is good and is growing enormously. “He’s very playful and now has full run of the house. Learning ’no’ in relation to bookcases and bench tops is slow but otherwise all is well.”

Blossom adopted

She was adopted yesterday last thing. Don't know who to. And I can't imagine why she should have been chosen ahead of Cindy Clawford, Betty or Pickle. But, thank goodness, . . . . it takes all types. And we have a cat to match any type.

Including a new boy called Big Kahuna. When seen from the rear you can tell that he was well named but that they have been taken care of. From the front, he has chopped off whiskers and several wounds around his neck that necessitate the Elizabethan collar and shave job.

Big Kahuna
Don't know why his whiskers were cut unless it was to "stop him from leaving his new home". This was supposed to work like buttering the cat's paws to keep it in a new house. Old wives tales might work some times. And I don't know how he got the wounds but he is a real sweetie.

As is Mr Garfield in Incoming now that he has stopped screaming for attention. He has learned that meals come at regular intervals and that cuddles and naps are allowed.

Mr Garfield
We have a new girl called Annabelle who is in Michelle's small stand alone by the front door. I don't think she will last as long as Michelle did because she is white and just as friendly. Don't know her history.
Annabelle
Bonny and Ricky have been moved from Isolation. They used to compete for food there but seem to be friends now.

And what was Lola doing today?

Lola

She put herself into her stand alone, settled down in her hammock and then made love to her blankie! Talk about teaching old cats new tricks!

And the Fab Five. . . .

happily eat anything they are given.

Thanks for the photos Joy and Robyn. (Have a good trip Joy and lovely to have you well enough to spend time with us Robyn.)

No bags again

Thank you Tuesday. But I took the bags our vollies filled out before the Willoughby garbos came just to get rid of them. The first bin whose lid I opened did have some space. And also a rat. . . a live rat who scurried down into the bin's depths. Poor thing will get a surprise when s/he arrives at the landfill. But it might just be the perfect place for a rat to live.

Since last week Chilli, Mouse and Eric have been adopted. I wonder if the person who adopted Chilli was the one who initially wanted Jade. But Jade was adopted by a mum for her kids' holiday pleasure. That didn't turn out well because one of the kids developed a severe cat allergy within 2 days. He hadn't shown signs to other cats in his life. So it was just Jade. Jade is back with her fosterer.

Pickle has been moved to Eric's stand alone. This afternoon we moved her to the play place because Cindy and Co had it overnight last night. They need a quiet night tonight.

Cindy, Rufus and Indiana (L to R)

Chilli's is empty. And Tim wants to move Yin and Yan into Mouse's condo. But they were perfectly happy to be stroked this afternoon in their separate hidey holes. Sue and I thought that they would regress if shut up in an airless condo. So we left them where they were.

And let Venus and Muffin have a night out in the Top Cat. They were delighted to have a good stretch and scratch.

Venus and Muffin
Miz and Riley came to us because their owner has a terminal disease. They don't need their privacy covering. Riley is very friendly now. Miz perhaps not so much but she will come around.

Riley above, Miz skeptical

Betty's kittens have been named Barry and Blaze (by Sue). They have ringworm and today had a ringworm treatment bath. They did not enjoy it (neither did Sue). But they rather liked being snuggled up in towels on top of fresh hotties.

Barry and Blaze

Each week Lola tries another spot. She is accepting greetings from strangers as well as vollies these days and does nose bops with anybody who feeds her.

a good Friday

The traffic was terrific. The parking was plentiful. But Cousins didn't come to empty their bins.

Otherwise it was a good Friday with 11 vollies falling over each other and lots of cuddling going on when I arrived around noon.

With not much to do, I decided that PC needed some beauty treatment. His saliva blackens on exposure to air and where he licks himself is covered with black tar-like stuff. I put some warm water in the big sink and added PC. He didn't like it much. But he is such a gentleman he tolerated it. And he didn't really mind being dried with a towel by Emily. And he really liked being combed with a fine tooth comb while sitting on the visitors chair when he was all dried off. Meanwhile Stephen Gumptioned his condo. PC was quite happy to go back to his condo and was ravenous for his dinner.

Meanwhile Marissa arrived to spend time with her Azlan. Her house is being "fixed" so he is better off with us but she misses him. She pops a harness on him and lets him take her for a walk.

Azlan walkies

While I took this photo a man arrived and said "I am here to pick up Emily". My memory failed me. We don't have a boarder named Emily. Of course not. He came to collect his daughter Emily. And to check out our torties (because he had one in his boyhood). While showing them to him I noticed that Salt was trying to suck on Pickles. He is too big to do that. . . . and she is too skinny to tolerate it. So I let her out. She immediately went back to her previous enclosure.

But Yin and Yan are in residence there now. They have come in again from their foster home where they were doing very well. I tried to make lots of covers for them to settle into/under. One had made it out of the hidey hole when I left.
Yin/Yan
Chilli was moved into Mouse's stand alone because his condo is needed for a boarder. He was transported in his plum pudding. That will definitely need to go with him when he is adopted.

Chilli
I reaarranged the two stand alones so that neither Chilli or Eric is in a busy traffic lane. The trolley is back there.

Betty's two kittens are still with us. One is much plumper than the other. Guess which?

New enclosures

These are very spacious for one cat. I imagine that they will be used for families. Prue and Trude were overexposed so I put up a modesty sheet to shield them from the front door traffic and put a towel over the transparent dome on the igloo that they were hiding in. They did come out for chicken. Sydney (next door) didn't.

Prue and Trude

These enclosures will be fun to clean because you can stand up easily in them. But I think the floor will take a beating. I will have to make more triangular hammocks for the cats to loll in.

Mimi also came out for chicken. She was so thrilled that she arched her back and her tail stuck through the top of her wigwam and made it fall to pieces. She may be sleeping on top of a felt bed tonight.

Mimi
Spot, another new cat from a foster home is still sulking. He didn't fancy any chicken. It is a pity that Sparky's sang froid didn't infect that stand alone.
Spot
I forgot to bring in a newspaper for Pickle. As there was lots of cardboard around, I made a nesting box out of a sheet of it with the help of the Stanley blade and the stapler. I put some odd bits of paper in it and placed it behind a modesty sheet in Pickle's stand alone. She immediately jumped in and started to scratch at the paper. There might be kittens by tomorrow morning! Then I found the new mop and bucket in a perfectly sized box! The mop is put together and the box is on top of Pickle's stand alone in case it is needed.

Geoff made friends with blind Hermione.
