Big afternoon

I adopted out four (4) cats this afternoon:

Maxi, Ravyn, Phoenix and Peanut.

And I probably broke the computer while doing it. I could not get Phoenix's contract to print. So copied Maxi's, crossed out the names and the new owner signed after reading. Sorry Tim. There will be a mess for you to unscramble.

 And Jasper's people came in the middle of the muddle to collect him. His stay was extended but the discount wasn't given the first time. We came to a mutually agreed figure. But the system would not let me get to the place where I change his status to departed. 

Of course, I blame David. He is so good at doing adoptions that I have happily let him do them all for months. And haven't learned/or have forgotten how to navigate the (no longer) new program.

And Ash went and had a tooth out. Somebody else went and came back early but I can't remember that far back to this morning. Time for a stiff gin and some of Joy's lovely photos above. This one is Robyn's. I gave the kittens a hottie today as well as warm formula. They were happy little Supermarkets.

 

Amazing weekend

 8 adoptions over the weekend including the F kittens (Frankie and Floyd), Panda, Bubble and Squeek, Suzie and Sirocco.

And today Peaches and her son Biscuit were washed to exclude all traces of ring worm.They have moved to next to Maxi. And Lolli and Gracie were washed as well and moved to Panda's stand alone. There are now only two kittens in Isolation. Let's hope they will be the last there for months.

 Geoff came and cut holes in the single condos in the Transit Lounge. He installed the unscrewable doors so that two condos can be made into one for larger families of kittens. We currenly have one group of six tiny kittens below Rosy.

 

And Persephone has been moved to Lola's small stand alone (which was most recently occupied by the F kittens). Geoff investigated the latch that they (the F's) managed to open last week. His simple solution is to use one of the clips that came on toys given to us by Mariko several Christmases ago. I have used them for hammocks for enclosures as well. I took a photo of one in action with the Safe phone but couldn't send it to myself. My own phone was at home, of course and my camera has died). Perhaps Irene can upload it here or on Facebook. 

Prue and Trude were going to come back but their fosterers couldn't get them into cat carriers. They will try again. They have been gone for a long time. 

A mum and son came in to find a kitten to go with their young cat who is driving their old cat crazy. They loved Maxi. And will probably be back.

An elderly lady came in to get a cat because her dog is missing their previous cat so much. She may return. She rather fancied Phoenix.

 A family came in to find a friend for their big boy kitten. They liked almost everybody. But especially liked Maxi.  

 

New vollies

 We had two today. And yesterday (while I filled in in the afternoon) a potential vollie came to check us out. She stayed for ages but decided to join the team. There will be training tomorrow, I understand, as lots of locals have shown interest.

No visitors or adoptions but we had a phone call from a woman who would like to foster Ravyn for 2 days in order to make a decision about adopting her! We routinely advise folk to allow 3 months for a cat to settle into a new home.

Anthea dropped by in the afternoon to socialize the cats. I think she only intended to stay a short while but she stayed all afternoon. Muffin enjoyed several sessions.

And Nala ignored her attempts to make friends. I carried Nala downstairs yesterday. I thought that putting her into a carry cage would just upset both of us so picked her up in her fluffy bed, held the opening against my stomach and walked down to the stand alone where Cosmo and C-friend were. (Have they gone to a foster home?)

Today she was still sulking. I don't think she has eaten anything since she arrived even though she was provided with food by her previous owners along with all kinds of toys and "stuff".

All the C kittens went to be desexed but only the 2 boys came back. The vets didn't have time to do the girls. They should be home tomorrow morning. The boys are delightful.

 He greeted his favourite Friday vollie with a kitten sized meow!

And, there is no dirty laundry at Safe Haven! We have finally caught up. (It has taken 5 years!)

Of course, the rubbish is another story with only one Willoughby bin still. But visitors took off several bags, as did I. So the balcony is not too bad. But anything but empty of bags is bad.

Bruce was blue today because his mum was at the vets. He stole Mickeys toy but still missed his mum/pillow.

 Peter, Patch and Phoenix have been moved to Welfare. It is nice to have some tiny tabbies there.

Faith and Flora were desexed. They came back with plastic cones but I changed them to cloth ones which are more comfortable.  They don't seem to get on all that well. But it might just have been the post op!

Chloe who was moved to Welfare some days ago, seems to have developed a mucky eye. She will get the dreaded ointment which is a shame because she has become much friendlier since being moved.

Australis has been moved back to Incoming. Borealis left in Welfare all by herself is now enjoying visitors.

In Isolation the four champagne, identical kittens suddenly have a champagne mum! She escaped while they were catching the family but has since been brought in. She seems a calm, sweet cat (who luckily remembered her kittens).

There is another kitten in Isolation called Bonnie. She was adopted from a breeder of British Short Hairs but developed ringworm and giardia. Both of these are infectious to people as well as to animals. So she was surrendered to us with a bag of food and meds and cash! I wasn't going close enough to get a good photo because both of those parasites infect people as well as felines. But she is cute enough to wait for.

When I came home from Safe this evening, Aslan greeted me at the top of the stairs with his "I am STARVED" look. So I fed him. Then went to wash SAFE from me after putting some rice noodles into hot water to soften. When I was clean, he was eating the rice noodles . . . on the kitchen bench!

I am now soaking another batch in the oven. And I put the peeled onion and garlic in there too  . . . . just in case.

He is getting double rations but is still hungry all the time.

It was surprisingly quiet at Safe this afternoon. We waited for Phoenix and Sydney's people to come to sign the contract now that Tim fixed the files. They came at 3:45pm. It was a quick finish up of an adoption. The 9 year old son was thrilled. P & S. . not so much.

Good thing Joy took lots of photos on Wednesday.

The "Pregnant Mum" still only has one kitten. Tim tried to listen for other heart beats but only heard her purrs.

Our new full time vollie (who is getting paid to volunteer by somebody else) is daunted by Milly and Biscuit at feeding time. I showed her how I do it. . .  just add food and let them sort it out.

The planet kittens have moved to the play place. Not happy. Just like when they moved into Incoming. But they came around pretty quickly. Now they are all desexed.

Roxy's four are still appealing. The ginger seems smaller and frailer than everybody else. Somebody make up some names please.

Romeo adopted

 His new people fell in love with him on Saturday and took him home. Seemed like a match made in heaven to me. I hope he finds it so. On Sunday I brought Aslan home to have some R & R after I thoroughly vacuumed all Romeo's hair off the carpet. I don't think he has taken any notice of "other cat" smellls. He is just interested in finding the food. He can jump up onto the kitchen benches (unlike Romeo who kept all paws on the ground at all time). So never has my kitchen been so neat and clean.

As he is quite thin (4.2Kg) I will put him on normal rations to see if that diminishes the food drive. 

Today we are up to 41 adoptions for August. Including Mateo who was spotted at the Cat Show by an enthusiastic dad who came at 10am to adopt him. It would have been 43 if the computer had cooperated when I did the paperwork for Phoenix and Sydney. The new owner didn't want to pick them up until tomorrow or Friday when everything in their house will be ready for them anyway. Now the paperwork is mostly done and Sydney just needs his vaccination before he is set to go. So they have an "ADOPTED" sign on their condo. And Tim will sort out what I did to Shelter Buddy tomorrow.

I just heard a suspicious noise from the kitchen. Aslan was attempting to open the jars of fish food that I used to keep beside the fish tank. They are now in a drawer. I wonder how long it will take him to catch the tiny tetras!

This afternoon the "pregnant mum" had one kitten. Black and white. May not be the last one. She was remarkably relaxed about it. Perhaps it is not her first litter. Which means that there may be many more by tomorrow morning.
