Adoptees picked up

Lucy and Eric were taken home from boarding where they have been for a week since being adopted. They didn't want to go into the carrier. As soon as I got one in and turned to get the other, out the first one would pop. Eventually I had the owner hold the carrier on its end to keep the first one in and tipped the second one onto top of her. Inelegant but effective.

We had Katie's cats as guests today. As soon as Suki started screaming for lunch Tim took them home to Katie's. Five cats each in a separate carrier just fitted into Tim's car and he was serenaded all the way to their home.

Gulia, a regular Friday morning vollie, spends at least half an hour at the end of her shift with Honey. Today Honey touched paws with her. Giulia would love to adopt her but a flatmate is allergic to cats.

Honey loves Giulia

Hana loves chicken. She came out of her carrier to ask for more.

Pluto, Star's last kitten has been desexed. She is very skinny and has Star's rumbly purr.

Geoff came late to work on the moveable play place. I convinced Rosanna that it could live against the wall in the main room with the shelves perpendicular to the wall instead of against it. (As Sandy and I agreed 2 years ago was a better placement of the shelves.)

He has repaired the giant play place scratchy pole. It just needs a bit of sewing which I will do. . . . next week.

Adoptions picking up

The excellent news over the weekend is that there were adoptions:

Rhapsody. . . . no surprise there.

Beauty . . . . . you little beaut!

Sarah  . . .  hallelujah!!

Maggie has moved into Rhapsody's stand alone

Truffle is where Beauty was. I straightened out her hammocks and covered the nasty wire shelves and she was much happier. Robyn gave her some toys and she played.

And Star is where Sarah was. Out of Incoming at last. Her last kitten, Pluto, is still there though. She is in Syd's condo. He has gone to a foster home! Nancy is still with us.

And then a man come in looking for a pair of cats. Did he come to the right place! I showed him them all and he decided that he needed Princess and Precious because they are pet names at his place. I had a terrible time getting the computer to behave when adopting a pair of cats and buying miscellaneous mercandise. Poor Tim will have to sort it out tomorrow. But the buyer was very patient with my ineptitude. He was even more patient when Princess took off when I tried to put her into a carrier. She jumped off the back of my right hand with her back leg and took some of my skin with her. Of course, I dripped blood all over the place. Catsie had to use all her St John's skills to bandage me. Eventually we got her into a carrier. (Precious was no problem at all). The patient new owner happily took them both off.

I had a cuddle with Maggie.

Robyn had a cuddle with Ginger Megs.

Geoff came to measure the movable play place for a flip up top. I am told that Sootie had a lovely play in it over the weekend. Sammy and Cypher gave themselves a fright this afternoon and went back into their condo.

Adoption Tails: Chloe

1 day: So far so good. She made a little area for Chloe in her bedroom and she fell fast asleep there last night and then woke up meowing pretty early and was fairly energetic. She then popped Chloe in the litter tray which is next to her bed and she went straight away. She’s been pretty quiet today though and hasn’t touched her food but had a little drink. Her owner is working from home in the other room and comes back in to check on her now and then. She’ll give her a quick pat which she seems to love and then leaves her to settle. She’s still undecided about renaming her, but something might click in the next few days.

Chloe 2 days

2 days: She definitely moves around a lot more at night. She used the litter tray by herself when her owner went to bed. She only eats when her owner pets her - she thinks Chloe feels more comfortable this way.1 week: She’s very good! Definitely starting to move around more. She has started wandering over to the other door that leads into the main room but her owner is hesitant to let her in there just yet as it is quite large. She has been renamed Cleo.
Chloe 1 month

1 month: Cleo is like a new cat. She’s been out and about exploring the next room and now sits with her owner on the sofa. She loves to play with her toys and runs around with them for hours. She has been introduced to a few people and is gradually coming out to see them. Her owner hasn’t tried to trim her nails but thinks she will be completely fine. She hasn’t really touched the scratching post so her owner might try and move it to a different spot.

An Adoption at last

Eric and Lucy have been adopted, together. But they are still with us as boarders. They will be picked up next Friday.

Lucy (on left) and Eric

I think the only way their owners will be able to tell them apart is her short tail. (A dog attacked her and part of it had to be amputated. She does not like dogs.) Duke has moved into their condo and is available  but the world doesn't know because the computer system keeps loosing the cat profiles that are "uploaded" to the adoption page. He will sell himself to anybody who comes in, of course.

I moved Sammy, Cyber, Thumbelina and Bambi back to their own condos and gave the play place a good scrub. We have boarders who have paid extra to get play place time.

The tall scratchy pole that the play place was build around is a danger to cat and volunteer. Jeff will try to salvage what he can from it.  The Top Cat structure that he has almost finished was enjoyed by Princess and Precious this afternoon. It still needs a secure top.
Lisa is back with us. Her new owner had a stroke and is in hospital for a week or so. She wants to keep Lisa but her brother, who came from Adelaide to help her, can't cope with the cat. So we will keep Lisa for at least a week. I carried Maggie around to say hello to her mother.  She growled when Lisa jumped down from her high perch.

Lisa

But Lisa doesn't have to put up with Mia's tantrums from the condo below her. Mia has been moved to Max and Gus's condo because they have gone to a foster home! Taylor will have to put up with Mia instead.

Adoption Tails: Sabrina and Ginge

SAFE photo to remind you of Sabrina

1 day: The cats are fine. The boy (Ginge) is very playful, the girl (Sabrina) is still shy.

1 week: Both Ginge and Sabrina are doing well. Ginge is feeling much better, still sneezing but less and no blood. Sabrina is really keen to get out to the backyard, was crying the whole night until the owner let her out. The owners decided that Sabrina needs to stay inside with them until she is more settled in and will divert her excess energy to more playtime. When Sabrina is home, she is very receptive to the owners. Ginge and Sabrina are wonderful cats that seem to be getting used to the house.

1 month: Ginge and Sabrina have adapted wonderfully and they both seem very happy and healthy! Ginge wants to eat all the time but he is also growing and is very energetic. The owners love them very much!

Adoption Tails: Sabrina and Lulu

1 day: So far so good although slow progress. Lulu is very curious and playful which is great. Sabrina (Sabby) is not moving much and hiding under the bed which is to be expected. The owner believes that it will all work out, just need patience and time.

1 week:  It was a slow start and a lot of the effort from the owner is all starting to pay off, Lulu and Sabrina have fully explored their safe room, the master bedroom. The wife was in NZ all week till Friday night and so the husband vacated the room and slept on the couch all week. It all worked out well as Sabby and Lulu had that room all to themselves. Lulu has been venturing out for many days now, Sabrina a couple times but she has mainly stayed under the bed or exploring the bedroom and running back under if the owner comes in or a noise spooks her. This morning, both cats were jumping on the couple at 3am as they rolled in their sleep. Instead of getting mad, the husband kept the game going and moved his feet to keep them playing despite his wife trying to get to sleep for "City to Surf" marathon which she had to get up early for...

1 month
1 month: Both cats are doing absolutely fine, Lulu and Sabrina have adjusted to the 2 resident cats and vice versa. Lulu and Lucy (3 year old resident cat) are best friends and play together. They run like crazy through the whole place, gently playfighting with each other. Both Lulu and Sabby are venturing out onto the balcony and overlooking the view and down below now. The owner is supervising their balcony outings at this stage.

All four cats eat in the kitchen together and as of today, the litter tray that has been sitting right outside the master bedroom (their original safe zone) has been moved after seeing Sabrina using the one in the laundry. The owners are very happy to have no more litter tray in the bedroom hallway.

Lulu and Sabby are pretty much settled in and their people have started trying to touch and pat them. It has been a very slow work in progress but definitely working well as Lulu now brushes up against their legs when food is being prepared and Sabby comes up very closely too. The 11 year old son prepares their food half the time and it is going very well. They are also getting along very well with the 4 year old daughter. Lulu and Sabby love their jumpers and clothes, the owners find it very cute.

Adoption Tails: Elton

Elton

Elton in foster
1 day: He’s doing great. He’s definitely staying Elton. He’s met their other rescue cat, who is a gentle soul and has been lovely with Elton. He’s met the dog, and the dog is staying at a safe distance. They’re only giving Elton a few minutes with the dog. The dog is really well mannered and just sits on the other side of the room. Elton is still a bit cautious but not scared, and they all just ate together. He sleeps on his owner’s lap day and night which is perfect timing as they’ve broken their ankle and can’t move for 6 weeks. “Such a lovely natured cat.”

Elton 1 day
1 week: He’s fine.1 month: He’s great. Elton has been getting along with the resident cat and dog from the beginning.
