Lots of adoptions

 Perhaps we should move every year to a new location and get a rush of locals to adopt our cats!

6 went over the weekend including Lola and Pixie, Chaulk, Harry, Nutmeg. And today a volunteer came with her family to adopt Carrot after falling in love with her on her shift on Saturday.

I moved Ravyn down to where Clover was. It is a busy corner but she does like to be in the center of everything. Bubble and Squeek were moved down to Lola and Pixie's enclosure. And I moved the remaining pair upstairs (blocked their names) down to beside the tasty family.

Luckily Joy was with us to take lovely photos.

This pair of kittens is in the back wall Incoming area. I weighted them for Irene. The champagne is a girl and the black one is a boy with the biggest balls I've ever seen on a kitten. Names anyone? 

 There is a new white stand alone next door to  Garry. Very smart. With a mum called Pishi. Her four kittens were whisked away this morning, ? to be desexed. She sat relaxed all day long.

At the other end of that row of condos, is Indy and Marcy. We spotted a suspicious bare spot on Indy's shoulder today. Fingers crossed it is not ring worm.

Kath and I gave Gideon a bit of a wash today. He keeps on walking in his poo. He must have been a bit cleaner because 3 hand towels were pooey. All he wants is a lap to crawl onto.

Late day

Poor Aslan didn't get dinner until 7pm tonight. And I am eating my lunch as I type this. This morning there were only 5 vollies who worked hard and long. And I had 3 adoptions. 

1. A young woman came in with her friend who adopted from us before. She had looked at the website and rather fancied Harry. But she loved every cat that she met including Mimi, both G boys, the Japanese boy and all the H kittens. But eventually she spotted Kitty. Fell in love. And adopted her!

Thanks to the lovely Friday vollie who has spent time with her after his shift for the past 2/3 months, Kitty was willing, and eager, to meet a new person who thought she looked perfect.

She was even easy to put into a carrier!

Then a mother and daughter came in to get a cat to go with their female cat as their old man cat had died. The daughter wanted a fluffy. Harry was it. Although Rory had a chance when I told them that he had had the entropian operation (? spelling of the condition in which the eyelid rolls in so that the eyelashes scratch the cornea). Seems that the daughter has had the same operation!

There will be a disappointed visitor tomorrow. One of Harry's brothers will be just as nice. Or one of the remaining G boys.

After they left, a woman arrived looking for a replacement for her beloved 20year old cat. We went around everybody but she kept coming back to Mimi who happily got out of her box and came for pats every time her door was opened. She took Mimi home. And as she works from home, I think Mimi will believe that she has gone to heaven.

No poo bags!

We have cleared the backlog. There is space in one Willoughby bin and one empty Willoughby bin in the basement! And there are no boarders to add to the poo pile. Plus lots of cats were adopted over the weekend including Minty, the birthday girl who must have been with us for more than 2 years. Her sister Rascal is still with us. And Rosie was adopted. Roxie, her mum, doesn't seem perturbed. 

I moved Wolfgang into Enclosure 1. It smelled just fine before I did. But it smelled of entire male soon after he moved in. Let's hope that odour does not persist. He got used to more space, slowly,

There is a new cat in Better Row called Mimi. Kath introduced herself to Mimi and had a friend for life within seconds.

This was after she assembled over a dozen new folders for more adoptions this week, please.

 There are four lovely H kittens who are ready to go (as soon as the paperwork is uploaded). They are in the corner condo under where Tilly was.

The highlight of a slow afternoon was that PC claimed his chair and was pestered by folk trying to help him clean himself up.

More adoptions

 A busy weekend. Not only was Mia adopted but her next door neighbour Harry was adopted too. And so was Felicity the kitten.

 And Teddy and GiGi have been adopted by our Natalie.

Lola is doing well. She is in a small condo and has a huge plastic cone on. But seems to be happy to be home. (The pain killers probably help). There is a fund raising effort on Facebook to try to recoup the price of her operation.

Cordelia was sent to the vet to be desexed. And they discovered that she is pregnant. So she is back in her condo, enjoying the pregnancy rations and looking as slim as she was last week.

 We had a new kitten for a short while. Choco was whisked off to be fostered.

And Mateo is back in a hard collar for another week. He bumped his wound in the soft collar . . . . probably when racing around like a mad thing. He had a turn in the play place where he can't get up to full speed.

Aziza's kittens (in Isolation) are very interested in eating her food. Unfortunately the crunchies make them vomit. So we separate Aziza in a carrier to eat her crunchies with a side of wet food while the littles have just the wet food. They love it.

Fun with the bins today included magots! Somebody filled the Willoughby bin in the basement and it was left there yesterday because two others were taken out to the pavement (including the cracked one that I had left upside down in the basement to NOT be filled).

That cracked bin will be collected by Willoughby council within the next three working days. It is on the sidewalk. . . . upside down.

Lola was pleased to see me

I was greeted like a long lost relative this morning. She has certainly overcome her horror of people. But her tummy is still swollen. She has had an ultrasound. And she is still chucking up with abandon.

I decided that the mum cat in Isolation should have a name. So I looked up Google to find some Egyptian names because the lovely ladies who brought the family in spoke some kind of middle eastern language and one was veiled. I decided on some names and wrote them down but didn't take a photo. Probably by Friday all evidence of my efforts will be removed.

I also put up a third triangular hammock in their stand alone so that the kittens can climb their way to mum who tends to lie in the highest hammock. And they are still drinking from her. . . . so who can blame her for retreating to the heights.

We had some intersting visitors this afternoon (but no adoptions.) The woman who adopted Maisey a couple of years ago (https://safehavencats.blogspot.com/2023/07/ps-maisy.html) came in to tell us about the failure of a microchip company which stores the microchip info on cats. The way we work is that the council where the cat lives gets that information. So we don't think this applies to us. 

While she was here she fell in love with Leo and with Harry. She sat on the floor for ages playing with him and his neighbours (including Mia and Bassuria!)

Leo was also the focus of the attention of a couple who have a couple of free days before they head back to China to live. The free days are because the airline decided that their two cats could not travel with them in the cabin. They have to go in the baggage compartment. Their owners are not happy. And especially so since when they came to Australia their cats where caught up in a beaucratic wrangle that had them for 6 months. The cats were not pleased but did forgive their people eventually. Their people are not looking forward to going through that process again! Leo offered them confort today.

No Chicken

 I left it in my lunchbox on the kitchen bench. Had to go out to get something at Sonia's for lunch. She didn't have any chicken. There were disappointed cats. But Lola was too busy snoozing to complain. (I don't think she feels well.)

I let Le Clerc out for a wander. The H kittens were fascinated. And LC played touchy paws with them through the bars.

The woman who adopted Suki Sioux last week returned the cat carrier that she borrowed. She brought her sister to meet cats. Suki has settled in very quickly and has won their hearts. She was in her safe room for one day before taking over the rest of the house. They say that she has only sounded like a Siamese once.

The "Siamese" on Better Row has been moved to Chad's condo. He is friendly as can be. He has a blue card but isn't on the web site yet. Might be a nice surprise for a visitor tomorrow?

Suki Sioux's "aunt" was interested but now is not a good time for her to get another cat. But she might consider volunteering with us. She has just retired from an IT job. We could use her skills.

 Suki was adopted this afternoon. I think the couple who took her looked like a good match but didn't do the adoption . . . . . Tim W and Sue looked after them. 

Another woman is coming back tomorrow to adopt Harry to go with her rather shy, small 7year old cat. He will be happy at her house. 

That probably will make 39 adoptions this month. Which must be a record.

We certainly have more kittens coming to make Feb and March record breakers as well.

The set of three kittens brought in last Friday were given names:

Mowgli is the tabby in front, Bagheera is the black on the right and Baloo is the black and white on the left.

At one stage all of Mateo's lot were in one hammock. I managed a photo when three were snuggled up together. So cute!

Lola looses lockup

Her stand alone is now occupied by Mystic (who is a girl. No wonder her name was changed from Grey Guy!) Lola now is officially the occupier of Opie's room, now renamed Lola's room. And Charley did a fabulous tidy up of it today. Let's try to keep it that way. . . . . for Lola's sake. She may have potential adopters visiting her there.

Little One has moved from Incoming to below Mickey and has had a reversal of personality. I thought she was a girl. Turns out he is a boy. And a really soppy, smoochy boy to boot! Joy discovered his change in personality when she took photos of him.

The only visitors we had today were repeats from Sunday. They are looking to replace a cat who lived with them for a while and who had a special love (mutual) for the small daughter. They rather liked Cuddlepie (her) and her neighbour Dylan (her dad). But today, Little One may have won them both over. They will return.

Adoption Tails: Harry and Dexter

 Harry

2 days: He’s doing well. He has used his litter box to go pee and poo and is eating well. He seems very relaxed as long as his owner is around and he prefers to eat when his owner is home. He doesn’t seem to need the safe room but he gets put in it when his owner is out. He will not be renamed and has already been registered with the council.

1 week: “He’s gorgeous! He has the run of the place. Given his age not surprising that he sleeps a lot. Not particularly interested in playing but likes to be near me (preferably on me!)” His owner thinks he’s put on a bit of weight. 

1 month: “He is currently on my lap! He made a run for freedom today but I collected him from the top of the fence. I think he must have been an indoor/ outdoor cat. He is desperate to be outside. He is still having problems with his ear and tongue so is having a GA tomorrow for them to have a proper look. Fingers crossed.”

Dexter

2 days: He seems fine so far. He's eating, drinking and using the litter tray. He’s been out of his safe room but seems comfortable around the house. He responds well to his name so his owner doesn’t think they’ll change it. He has attacked his owner’s arm twice. It wasn’t really obvious why as his owner wasn’t trying to pat him or anything. Mostly, it has been times when his owner is doing something like sitting on the couch or using the computer and Dexter will be sitting nearby and seems to be doing his own thing, and then he’ll jump onto his owner’s arm with teeth and claws before they even notice Dexter was interested in his owner. He stops when scolded and his owner is hopeful that he’ll learn what makes him like that with more time. 

 
10 days: Dexter is starting to settle in after his first week. He had a cough so he went to the vet and got some antibiotics. He’s getting better with his behaviour. “He will occasionally bite if he doesn't get his way but I think it's gradually happening less.” He still eventually bites after a while if he doesn’t get what he wants quickly enough. “He's improved from the attacks with serious biting and scratching which he started with. He seems pretty comfortable in the house and is using the cat tower and beds around for him.” He has been using the litter tray with no accidents. He will play when his owner waves around a ribbon or belt but doesn't seem interested in cat toys. “He also likes cardboard boxes. He seems pretty happy most of the time but is also definitely interested in getting out the front door to see what else is out there.”

1 month: Health-wise, he is good. He very rarely has a cough now and he had some sort of intestinal worms but seems to have cleared up with worming treatment. Behaviour-wise, he has improved in that he mostly doesn’t attack his owner when he wants something. Unfortunately, they still can’t trust him to sit on their lap or be too close for long. He’s still prone to attacking when his owner tries to get him off their lap or for some other reasons that they can’t figure out. “he seems to me to act more like an immature cat than a 3 year old so I'm hoping he still has potential settle down more with time”

Movement in photos

 Is not as desirable as movement in adoptions. But is inevitable. Trude and Prue were sitting at attention this afternoon, waiting for chicken. But as soon as I pulled out my camera one or the other moved.

 Miz and Riley have a "bonded pair" sign but they really don't act like a pair. Only one ever comes out for a wander when the door is open. Charlie likes them because they don't eat all of their crunchies and they let him come into their condo.

The folk who were going to come to adopt Yang either didn't come or got talked out of it. The sisters are both still here. Yang tends to hang out on a top shelf and Yin stays in a hidey hole. Both accept pats happily enough.

While Billy and Harley are not in the same condo (Billy is above Harley) they seem to have the one still/one moving vibe going:

I gave Harley a cuddle this afternoon and almost had to wash my face afterwards. She is very enthusiastic.

A bloke rang up about Cooper. He regularly looks after other folk's cats and wants one of his own because the hole in the house when the cat goes home is just too hard to live with. If he takes Cooper, he will be able to have other folk's cats visit because today Cooper, PC, Harry and Charlie all shared the front desk while Meatball frolicked in the corridor. Harry has been moved from Better Row to Betty's stand alone. I am not surprised that he preferred his bed on the desk: the stand alone was uncovered and hammock-less. It is habitable now.

Muffin and Venice were the last ones out in the Top Cat. (Sebastian and Pebbles had a fine ping pong ball game, Sparkle surveyed his domain and Abigail and Annabelle had a lovely time there too). I hope it is not too hard for Irene to take it down in the morning.
