Lots of adoptions

Perhaps we should move every year to a new location and get a rush of locals to adopt our cats!

6 went over the weekend including Lola and Pixie, Chaulk, Harry, Nutmeg. And today a volunteer came with her family to adopt Carrot after falling in love with her on her shift on Saturday.

I moved Ravyn down to where Clover was. It is a busy corner but she does like to be in the center of everything. Bubble and Squeek were moved down to Lola and Pixie's enclosure. And I moved the remaining pair upstairs (blocked their names) down to beside the tasty family.

Luckily Joy was with us to take lovely photos.

This pair of kittens is in the back wall Incoming area. I weighted them for Irene. The champagne is a girl and the black one is a boy with the biggest balls I've ever seen on a kitten. Names anyone?

There is a new white stand alone next door to  Garry. Very smart. With a mum called Pishi. Her four kittens were whisked away this morning, ? to be desexed. She sat relaxed all day long.

Pishi
Princess Peanut is ready to leave. Pity she is in the far corner of the "Welfare" area.

At the other end of that row of condos, is Indy and Marcy. We spotted a suspicious bare spot on Indy's shoulder today. Fingers crossed it is not ring worm.

 Marcy says "it wasn't me".
Marcy
Kath and I gave Gideon a bit of a wash today. He keeps on walking in his poo. He must have been a bit cleaner because 3 hand towels were pooey. All he wants is a lap to crawl onto.

Piglet's new skill

 is standing on shoulders.

Piglet

Tim's new skill is numbering enclosures.

The numbers start at Lola and Pixie on the wall away from the office closest to the line of AWL condos.

And end at 36 where Salt and Pepper are finally coming out from behind the sheets.

Across the way is Rascal in 37 to Clover in 39. Roxie is in 40 across the gap with Julie and Bassuria beside her in 41. The old AWL condos start with Marcy and Indie in 21 with Cheeto below in 22 and end with Peanut (aka Princess) at the other end of the line in 29.

Upstairs Dinesh is in D3. I assume (didn't look) that Raphaella (on the other side of the door) is in D1, etc. Raven is in D7.

Across the aisle, S1 has a boarder, Olive who moved in today. She didn't take long to settle into a hammock. (Which shows bravery because most cats wouldn't have ever seen a hammock before).

Olive
Gideon is at the end of that row of enclosures in S5. This afternoon he was curled up so tight you couldn't see his ears.

Lost key

I lost the front door key today. It must have jumped out of my pocket and down the drain. I searched everywhere. Catsie searched everywhere. It has vanished. Poor Tim will have to drive all the way to put another key in the lock box. It is the lock box at ankle level. The lock box at shoulder level is kaput. SORRY.

Nutmeg was adopted over the weekend and her new owner rang to say "THANK YOU". Nutmeg has settled right in. Doesn't want to be in the safe room. Wants to be with her new people. Is talkative, playful and a pure delight.

A woman came in to look at the cats for her daughter. She rang later to make sure that Lola and Pixie are available.

Ariel was moved into Nutmeg's stand alone.

She loved the scratchy pole

Chalk thinks a new neighbour will mean more food for him.

Chalk
Autumn, opposite them, will enjoy having somebody new to watch (down her nose).
Autumn

Piglet has been moved from "Incoming". She should get her pink name tag soon. I doubt she will last long.

Piglet would like the scratchy pole to go with her

And Sharon brought Garry back. She has commitments that mean that she can't keep him with her even though she would love to.

He is in the big stand alone in "Incoming" which I moved closer to the feeding table so he could be entertained by watching the feeders antics.

Settling in

Robin visited today. It was grand to see her. And she hopes that now that she is just 5 minutes away, we will see her more often. Australis was thrilled to meet her. Her tail almost touches her ears when she is particularly pleased.

Australis and Robyn's fascinating finger
The crew had the brilliant idea of moving the stand alones to sweep beneath them.

And while stand alones were moving, Bree's was rotated by 90degrees so that she backs up to the end of Chalk and Percy's.

She glowed at the prospect of being able to watch Lola and Pixie. (Or my too smart iPhone changed her colours to what it thought was appropriate!

R

Bree isn't this tortie!

Rascal is becoming more sociable in her new digs.

Rascal

Even, Oreo next door seems more relaxed.

On his other side is Clover, the Ume replacement. She is not a happy cat.

Clover

But Gideon was when we took off his cone so that he could eat and try to walk. (The eating went well for soft food. But the walking is all over the place unless there is a lap to be had.)

Bent Lily

I refer to the Gymea lily growing in front of Block 1. It has bent over to face level in an attempt to get more sunlight. So, next time you come to save, walk past the mail boxes to get a close up view of a lily that is usually 3meters up in the sky.

Another spectacular thing is that we have adopted out 2 dozen cats/kittens so far this month. But we only have 71 cats in residence at Safe Haven because we are expecting a deluge of kittens shortly. September is traditionally the beginning of the kitten season. But we have had a steady trickle of kittens all year.

Cats who got adopted since last week include Mickey who has been on our books for ?3 years.

Mickey

And Pixie a kitten who's sister Ecco, the last of that litter, was chosen by a woman today. She has to convince her husband that their Siamese cat needs a friend.

The man who came in last week came again and will return tomorrow to adopt Meika and Loki!

I did one adoption today of Garfield to a couple who picked him up from the foster home.

And the man who surrendered two of his family's 17 cats (!) was in tears this afternoon after visiting them. The cats, Heffer and Ginger, weren't happy either.

Heffer

Ginger

A busy day. Cherish got a bath and has moved to Darcy's condo. Darcy in next to Bass and Julie in an enclosure. I tried to take her photo but she is one wiggly cat! Ishi and Apricot got baths too. Sue and I got scratched. They are still in Isolation, waiting for a suitable condo in Welfare.

We have two new cats in Incoming. Sunflower and Rain. Neither of them ate much last night or today. I wonder if they came from the same place.

Not like Lola whom I caught snacking on the kitten's MBC food this afternoon.

Adoption Tails: Tina and Timmy, Wilma & Wendy, Pixie

 Tina & Jimmy

1 day: They're quite OK. Running around the apartment at the moment. The owner's daughter had the two stay in the bathroom for a couple of hours to get used to the set up.
1 week: They're really good! So happy with them, everything is okay.

1 month: No response.

Wilma & Wendy

1 day: The girls are going well! The owner noticed that they have started to explore during the night as all the pillows on the bed were moved!. They have had water but no food and yet to toilet.

1 week: They're really good! They have been exploring and getting more confident! One of them slept at the end of the owner's bed last night, he just was not sure which one. Wendy has been eating the wet food from the spoon but Wilma is the first to come up for a sniff and smack the ping pong ball at the owner.

1 month: Girls have settled in really well!

Pixie, now Peaches

1 day: The owners have decided to call Pixie Peaches. She is settling in very well. She's eating and drinking and has used her litter tray. They are all very happy, she's a very fun cat.

1 week: She's wonderful, very fun and affectionate. She follows the owners from room to room and likes to participate during the kids' story time.
1 month: no response

Third time lucky?

 For Max!

Max

This afternoon Bron came in to do the paperwork on Thelma and Louise the two cats who were surrendered by Robyn's mother-in-law and whom Bron has fostered for the past year or so. After we did their paperwork she said "and I can take another needy cat, or two. I run a retirement house for difficult cats". Tim suggested Max and mentioned his personality traits. "Fine" says Bron! Max was popped into a carrier, covered with a towel and we did his paperwork too. She adopted him.

He will love living in her backyard in a spacious shed with lots of windows and a screened porch. The kids will play in the yard and pool. There are lots of ibis and other birds to watch as they live on the water. They have a new German Shepherd to play with their older German Shepherd. And I will be able to see him when I walk past on my morning walk!

I wonder how long it will be before he is living in the house with them, just supervising. . . .  everything.

A young couple came to look for a friendly kitten as first time cat owners. Don't know why they didn't fall for Pixie who relaxed in their arms. She is the only available single at Safe (apart from  Lyra and I don't like the look of the spot by her right eye). I suspect that they had looked at the web page and spotted Marguerite who is grey. So I gave them Irene's addy and they will visit foster homes.

I could have suggested Jagger but he was hiding out in Rosie's carry cage. As soon as his condo door was opened to let him wander this afternoon, he shot next door to Rosie and Callie's condo and went straight into the carrier. I think he misses Ronnie. I think Callie misses being number one kitten in Rosie's life.

At about ten to four, as I was starting the evening feeds out back, I could hear cooing coming from the main cat room. A young, female in biking gear complete with a helmet was cooing at the cats. No other people around. She was talking simultaneously with her mum by phone (in Cantonese). They are about to move somewhere where they can have a cat. They want a really friendly cat. Just one. Most of our cats are paired at the moment (except Pixie. But I decided that Terry needs Pixie to keep his adoption numbers up for tomorrow). Besides she didn't notice Pixie. I introduced her to the friendly kittens from the fabulous fosterer who have yet to be desexed and she will return when they are ready. If I hadn't hustled her out the door she would still be there, cooing at cats.
